Afghanistan
Saleh Blames Released Taliban for Violence, No More 'Blind Trust'
[ToloNews] Afghanistan’s First Vice President Amrullah Saleh said on Thursday that those Taliban
...Arabic for students...
prisoners who were released from the Afghan government jails as part of the US-Taliban peace deal are playing a major role in the rising security threat to the country.

Saleh added that he is ready to prove case-by-case that the released prisoners are involved in the current violence against the people.

However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
a number of citizens have said that the dramatic surge in the scale of violence and a rise in the assassinations is rooted in the failure of the Afghan security and intelligence agencies.

Referring to the recent spate of assassinations on the employees of the government institutions and the recent attacks on the employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development and Ministry of Agriculture, Saleh said that those Taliban members who were released are behind these attacks, and that the Afghan government will no longer release more Taliban members from the jails in good faith.

"We are ready to prove case-by-case that the 5,500 Taliban prisoners that we released for peace--they are somehow involved in the surge in violence and murders of the people—this trust was blind and without a strategy, we will not repeat it again," Saleh wrote on Facebook.

Based on the statistics, over the past two weeks, at least 30 people were killed in Kabul as a result of assassinations, and 30 more maimed. The majority of the victims were civilians.

The Taliban, however, has denied any role in the attacks.

Based on TOLOnews statistics, 270 people were killed and 347 more maimed in January alone across the country as a result of 214 explosions, group attacks and shootings.

Africa North
Jihadist Attacks in Northern Mozambique Dwindling, Says Military
[AllAfrica] Recent reports indicate that attacks by Islamist Lions of Islam in the Cabo Delgado area of northern Mozambique are dwindling. But the death of the chief of operations this week calls for strategic changes, local media reports.

Commander Eugênio Ussene Mussa allegedly died of Covid-19, but the cause of death was not officially given.

"President Filipe Nyusi thought that with Mussa in charge of that area, maybe they were going to win the battle," Mozambique correspondent Charles Mwangiro tells Africa Calling podcast.

"But with his death now, things are going to change," he adds.

Jihadists calling themselves al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
have been launching attacks in Cabo Delgado province since 2017, but violence escalated last year. At least 2,500 have been killed and more than half a million people have been displaced over the three-year period.

ATTACKS ON THE DECLINE?
The government has touted its recent success, especially as it has been dealing with at least 800 strikes by jihadists in the past year alone.

"Insurgent activity remained low in Cabo Delgado last week, while actions by government forces and their allies appeared to increase," according to the US-run ACLED database, which tracks violence in the region. They were referring to the first week of February.

While reports coming out of the area indicate fighting is on the wane, as Lions of Islam begin to run out of supplies, correspondent Mwangiro says that the news is only coming from the government, making reporting on the crisis very difficult.

"We used to get reports from the turbans because they had their own means of communication, such as the social media platforms," he says.

Mwangiro was reporting in Cabo Delgado in November and December, but said that it was difficult to work there.

"They don't want anyone there, and they're saying it's a danger zone," he adds, recounting stories of journalists who were disappeared, tortured and killed in the region.

OUTSIDE HELP
The gunnies call themselves al-Shabaab, but they are not part of the group that carries out guerrilla attacks in Somalia.

"We don't know what al-Shabaab this is," Mwangiro says. "The government has been saying that it's a new group. Some people say there's some local people involved, but no one knows who is fighting who in Cabo Delgado," he says.

Also figuring into the equation is the planned multi-billion-euro liquid natural gas exploration that is planned off the Afungi peninsula, near the Shabaab-controlled area. Workers at the French oil major Total were evacuated in December when fighting broke out near their facility.

The Cabo Delgado incursions have played out around a multi-billion-dollar liquid natural gas (LNG) exploration project off the Afungi peninsula, raising concern among project developers.

However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
Total CEO Patrick Pouyanne said this week that their plans were still on schedule to start production in 2024. He said that after jihadists came within 10 kilometres of the site, Mozambican officials pledged to provide protection within a 25-km radius.

Mozambique has asked the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
for help with training soldiers to fight jihadists, and Portugal said in December it would step in. But Mozambique has been loath to ask for direct help in containing the violence.

Although Southern African Development Community (SADC), a regional body, was slated to hold a summit in mid-January on the current crisis in Mozambique, it was permanently postponed, according to Luza news agency.

"The government has been saying it can control the situation in Cabo Delgado, but it's likely to affect other countries in the region, like Tanzania, Zambia, and Malawi too," says Mwangiro.

"That's why regional leaders have been trying to help with the insurgency in the region," he adds.

Bangladesh: Eight Sentenced to Die for Murder of Secular Publisher
Only after they’ve appealed their sentences all the way to the Supreme Court will we know if they really will hang for their misdeeds.
[BenarNews] A tribunal in Bangladesh on Wednesday sentenced to death eight members of an al-Qaeda-linked holy warrior group after finding them guilty of killing publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan in 2015, in one of a string of gruesome murders of secular intellectuals in the South Asian country.

Dipan, killed in broad daylight by machete-wielding murderous Moslems at his workplace, printed the secular and science writings of slain American-Bangladeshi writer Avijit Roy, among others.

Dipan’s murder was premeditated and he was killed for publishing Roy’s books, as part of an effort to destroy secular Bangladesh, noted anti-terrorism tribunal judge Mojibur Rahman.

India-Pakistan
Handlers in Italy, Canada, UK fan the Khalistan movement
The Khalistan movement wants to establish a separate homeland in Indian Punjab, to which end they take Pakistan’s funds and training. Like the IRA, they also get substantial support and funding from Sikh expat communities around the world, who love the idea of the folks they left behind murdering their neighbours before dying romantically for a hopeless idea.
[OneIndia] The agencies have been speaking about an outside hand that is desperately looking to fan violence amidst the farmer protests.

Repeated statements are being made by pro-Khalistan elements from countries such as Canada and the United Kingdom on the farmer protests. The government has even asked Twitter to suspend accounts that are putting out such content which threatens national security.

Since the past decade the Intelligence agencies have been warning that there are desperate attempts being made by the ISI to push the Khalistanis and revive terror in Punjab.

Pak violated ceasefire 5,133 times last year: Rajnath Singh
[OneIndia] Pakistain violated the ceasefire 5,133 times last year, Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh said in Parliament.

Singh said that 46 security personnel bit the dust in these violations. n replying to a question in Rajya Sabha
...After the Libyan Civil War, Sabha grew in importance as a slave auctioning town. However, an investigation by the National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL) revealed that while there was illegal slavery, reports were exaggerated, as slave auctions were rare and not made public. This was a great comfort to everyone but the slaves peddled in secret. The city was later seized by forces loyal to the Libyan National Army (LNA) and its leader Khalifa Haftar in January 2019, probably for its collection of MiG-25 aircraft....
, the defence minister said "appropriate retaliation" to the ceasefire violations, as required, has been carried out by the security forces.

"In addition, all violations of ceasefire are taken up with Pakistain authorities at the appropriate level through the established mechanism of hotlines, flag meeting as well as weekly talks between the director generals of military operations of the two countries," Singh said.

"Diplomatically, India has repeatedly emphasised at the highest level, the need for Pakistain to uphold the sanctity of the Line of Control and the International Border as its obligations emanating from the understanding in vogue," he said.

The defence minister said 299 incidents of ceasefire violations were reported till January 28 this year.

According to official data, the number of ceasefire violations by Pakistain in 2019 was 3,233.

Notwithstanding the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
pandemic in the region, Pakistain has been resorting to unprovoked ceasefire violations along the LoC and making concerted efforts to push hard boyz into Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
Pak hostilities increased after India announced its decision to withdraw the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and divide the state into two union territories in August 2019.

Iraq
10 IDP camps slated to close
The Kurdistan Regional government says otherwise
[NRTtv] SULAIMANI — Iraq’s Minister for Migration and Displacement Evan Faek Jabro said on Wednesday (February 10) that ten camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs) will soon be closed down in the Kurdistan Region, but a Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) official has denied that plans are in motion.

Since mid-October, the federal government has been closing down IDP camps across the country, eliciting condemnations from local and international human rights organizations.

Most of those who will leave the camps as a result of the closures are women and children, who were already vulnerable. Their wellbeing is of particular concern in light of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic and the onset of winter, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said in December.

Jabro said during an interview with al-Ashra program on the state-run al-Iraqiya television station that more than 140 of 174 camps in the country were shut down over the past six months.

All but two of the remaining 25 IDP camps are in the Kurdistan Region, including fifteen in Duhok, sheltering a total of 182,236 people as of late December.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Senior IDF commander says Hamas has 30,000 men, 7,000 rockets, dozens of drones
[IsraelTimes] Terror group has amassed hundreds of anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles, and a military force including hundreds of naval commandos, Israel estimates.

The Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, terrorist group ruling Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
has replenished its arsenal since a 2014 war with Israel and now has a vast collection of rockets, guided missiles and drones, a senior Israeli military commander said Thursday.

According to Israeli military estimates, Hamas has some 7,000 rockets, as well as 300 anti-tank and 100 anti-aircraft missiles, the commander said.

It also has acquired dozens of unmanned aerial vehicles and has an army of some 30,000 men, including 400 naval commandos who have received sophisticated training and equipment to carry out seaborne operations, the commander added. He spoke on condition of anonymity under military guidelines.

The smaller Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
terrorist group, which often acts independently of Hamas, boasts a similar arsenal, the commander said. That includes 6,000 rockets, dozens of drones and anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles, and some 400 naval forces.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad also made use of attack tunnels beneath the Gaza border during the 2014 war. Israel has discovered and destroyed around 20 tunnels since hostilities ended, including a large one last October that was still under construction.

Beirut Was ‘Lucky’ to Escape Second Chemical Blast, German Firm Clearing Port Says
[AnNahar] After a blast of historic proportions at Beirut's port last year, Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
only escaped a second chemical inferno by chance, the German company clearing the dockside has said.

Michael Wentler, a chemical expert managing Combi Lift's Beirut operation, said thousands of litres of dangerous substances stored in decaying containers for more than a decade at the port had turned the area into a minefield of chemical hazards.
