Afghanistan
Afghan Forces Capable of Fighting Terrorism: Khalid
[ToloNews] Acting Defense Minister Asadullah Khalid on Monday said the Afghan National Security and Defense Forces, especially the Air Force, have become capable of fighting against terrorist groups and that he will not allow the elimination of the country’s army at any cost.

"We lost this army once. We lost this Air Force once. We always say that with the cost of our blood, blood will be cheaper, with the cost of others’ blood, we will not allow the achievements to be lost," Khalid said at a ceremony on 101st anniversary of Afghan Air Force.

According to the US-Taliban
...Arabic for students...
agreement signed in Doha late in February, the US troops will leave the country within the next eight months. Khalid pledged that the Afghan forces can defend the country in the absence of financial and military support of NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Originally it was a mutual defense pact directed against an expansionist Soviet Union. In later years it evolved into a mechanism for picking the American pocket while criticizing the cut of the American pants...
and US troops.

"They have defended this country in the absence of NATO, Americans and financial and military support, and we will do it again. There is no problem," Khalid said.

"The enemy is only changing its tactics. They have changed nothing in strategy; therefore, it is our duty to be always fully ready against such enemies," Dawrat Pilot, an adviser at National Security Council.

According to a SIGAR report, the Afghan Air Force has at least 206 various aircraft.

The US has pledged to replace Russian aircraft with American in Afghan army but critics say this goal has not been achieved so far.

"Our night operations have reached its high level over the last two years," said Gen. Fahim Rahim, Commander of Afghan Air Force.

Kabul gets a new police chief
[KhaamaPress] The Afghan Ministry of Interior announced the appointment of a new police chief for Kabul on Monday.

"Brigadier General Juma Gul Hemmat has been selected to command as chief of the police for Kabul and take over responsibilities from Amanullah Wahidi who was removed from his position due to rising insecurity," Tariq Aryan, a spokesperson to Ministry of Interior tweeted.

Juma Gul Hemmat has previously served as police chief for Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
and Kunar province
... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country.....
s.
Wahidi’s dismissal comes after the residents of Kabul city complained about security problems, such as the increase of magnetic mine blasts and also the rocket attacks in several parts of Kabul city on Afghanistan’s independence day.

About a week ago, three people were killed and 16 were wounded--including six civilians--in rocket attacks in Kabul. At least 14 rockets were fired in Kabul city, including eight launched from PD16 and six from PD17 and “all rockets were launched from two Toyota 'Corolla' vehicles on Afghanistan’s 101st Independence Day.

Talks in Mali aimed at resolving the political situation in the aftermath of last week's coup have ended without agreement
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Mali Junta Wants Three-year Military Rule, Agrees to Free President

[AnNahar] The junta that seized power in Mali wants a military-led transitional body to rule for three years and has agreed to release the ousted president, a source in a visiting West African delegation and the rebel soldiers said Sunday.

Last week's coup -- Mali's second in eight years -- followed months of protests calling for Ibrahim Boubacar Keita to resign as public discontent with the government grew over the collapsing economy and a brutal Islamist insurgency.

"The junta has affirmed that it wants a three-year transition to review the foundations of the Malian state. This transition will be directed by a body led by a soldier, who will also be head of state," a source in the ECOWAS delegation told AFP after talks with the junta.

"The government will also be predominantly composed of soldiers" under the proposal, the source said on condition of anonymity.

A junta official confirmed to AFP that "the three-year transition would have a military president and a government mostly composed of soldiers".

The source and the official added that the soldiers have agreed to free Keita, detained along with other politicians since the coup on Tuesday, and he would be able to return to his home in the capital Bamako.

"And if he wants to travel abroad for (medical) treatment, that is not a problem," said the source from ECOWAS, which stands for the Economic Community of West African States.

Prime minister Boubou Cisse, who has been held with Keita at a military base outside the capital where the coup began, would be moved to a secure residence in the city.

While the coup was met with international condemnation, thousands of opposition supporters celebrated the president's ouster in the streets of Bamako.

Activists urge Pritzker to send National Guard to Chicago, claim Lightfoot 'can't control the city'
“Activists” trying to create an Alinsky photograph moment, Kent State style?
[CHICAGO.SUNTIMES] A group of community activists implored Gov. J.B. Pritzker to declare a state of emergency and have the Illinois National Guard deployed to reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel...
on Sunday, just two days after Mayor Lori Lightfoot
...the diminutive and vacuous Heronner da Mare of Chicago. When the corpse count rises she blames the guns, which are banned anyway...
and her allies stymied a similar push during a special City Council meeting.

In calling for the assistance, the activists pointed to the city’s surging summer gun violence as they urged both members of the City Council and Congress to rally behind coppers they claim have been outnumbered and attacked at recent protests.

"This mayor, Lori Lightfoot, she can’t control the city. It’s out of hand," Raul Montes Jr., a former candidate for City Council and the state Senate, said during a news conference in Little Village. "We need the National Guard to help out the police."

On Friday, a proposal to have Pritzker declare an emergency and allow the deployment of the National Guard was referred to committee for further discussion on a 30-17 vote. Ahead of the vote, Lightfoot accused the four aldermen pushing the measure of "grandstanding."

Two of them, Lightfoot has noted, are her most outspoken City Council critics: Anthony Beale (9th) and Ray Lopez (15th). Lopez and Beale were joined by Ald. Anthony Napolitano (41st), whose Far Northwest Side ward is home to scores of coppers, and Ald. Leslie Hairston (5th), who represents Hyde Park and South Shore.

Beale — who has pushed back on the mayor’s characterization that he and his colleagues are merely seeking attention — said he wants the National Guard to assist overworked cops and not patrol the city. Lopez has said there’s no "plan" to respond to the rioting and looting that has left swaths of the city ransacked in recent weeks.

Though Lightfoot said she welcomes a "fulsome" debate over whether to bring in the National Guard following Friday’s meeting, she warned "it can go disastrously wrong" if the guardsmen aren’t deployed correctly.

After noting that protesters have pelted officers with objects and one cop was struck with a skateboard during a demonstration last weekend, activist Frank Coconate credited Lopez and other aldermen for placing their "focus and attention on the problem." Videos of the chaotic protest also showed officers swinging batons at demonstrators, deploying a chemical irritant and rushing toward a crowd.

"These police are on their own out there, and it’s despicable what’s going on in this city ... We’re a laughingstock in the nation right now," Coconate said.

Indian Muslims should form own political party: Zakir Naik
[DAILYTIMES.PK] The Islamic preacher who left India and moved to Malaysia in 2016, uploaded a video on the Facebook channel, explained how Indian Moslems should respond to the ’harassment and oppression of the Indian government in India.

Zakir Naik
Indian Islamic preacher, founder and president of the Islamic Research Foundation, which doesn't rely very heavily on the scientific method. He is also the founder of the oxymoronic Peace TV channel through which he reaches 200 million viewers. He has been called an authority on comparative religion and the most influential Salafi ideologue in India, though usually by himself. Before becoming a public speaker, he trained as a physician. His preaching is currently banned in India, Bangladesh, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Antarctica. He is currently holed up in Malaysia, where he's not banned...
claimed, "Onslaught on Moslem minorities in India over the last four-six years and noted that Indian Moslems were divided along sectarian lines fighting and criticising each other."

Zakir Naik categorised his response into two, "Moslems as a whole and as individuals." Naik said that Indian Moslems as a whole should be united. "Noting they are divided on a basis of different sects in Islam, and belonging to different political parties and social organizations," he added.

Naik urged the Indian Moslems to do Hijra (migration) to other countries or states if they are a minority where they live. "If you have the means to go to a Moslem-majority country, that should be the best," Zakir Naik said. He said that he did "not expect" all Moslems of India to leave the country.

Zakir Naik said Moslems who could not move out of the country could go to another state, "which is more lenient towards Moslems". Naik added that the best state I can think of" is Kerala.

Pakistan Invites Taliban, China to Discuss Afghanistan Peace
[Bloomberg] Pakistan has invited Taliban and Chinese leaders for talks in Islamabad to smooth the way for intra-Afghan negotiations aimed at bringing an end the 19-year war that's ravaged Afghanistan.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood "Wormtongue" Qureshi said talks with a delegation of Taliban leaders would be held on Tuesday, to be followed by a visit by Chinese special envoy for Afghanistan, Liu Jian, to ensure a "coordinated and considered approach" toward peace. The dates for Liu's visit have yet to be announced.

"We can't impose our decisions," Qureshi told a news conference in Islamabad on Monday. "We acknowledge and respect Afghanistan's sovereignty and we are trying to make progress in these engagements." Qureshi didn't give further details of the Taliban's stay in Pakistan.

Pak Foreign Minister Shah Mahmoud Qureshi said the Taliban was invited by Islamabad for consultations on the grinding of the peace processor in Afghanistan.

"You remember that last time ahead of the Doha agreement, the Taliban came to our Foreign Ministry and we held a long and constructive meeting. You saw that after that, the Taliban came to the negotiations table," Qureshi told news hounds on Monday. "It was not an easy task."

Qureshi said the next step after the agreement should be the start of the intra-Afghan negotiations if the goal is to reach stability and reconciliation.

Taliban front man Shaheen said the grinding of the peace processor and the Afghan refugees’ issues in Pakistain, as well as creating facilities for trade relations between the two countries will be the topics of the delegation’s meeting with Pak officials.

US-led coalition troops at Taji base not repositioned in Iraq: Iraqi military official
[Rudaw] Troops from the Global Coalition to defeat the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) formerly at Taji military base have not been repositioned within Iraq, a senior Iraqi military official said on Monday.

Maj. Gen. Tahsin Khafaji, spokesperson for Iraq’s Joint Operation Command, told state media that the troops at Taji "did not re-station anywhere in Iraq," saying that the US-led coalition is moving in the direction of leaving the country.

"The International Coalition troops are committed to handing back all the bases they have been using to the Iraqi government," Khafaji said, adding that they have established a timeline for the exit. "The handovers come at the request of the Iraqi government, as many bases have completed their training and preparatory tasks, and it became necessary [for the Iraqi government] to receive the bases from coalition forces."

"The US-led coalition will still support Iraqi forces to defeat ISIS in Iraq through Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s," Khafaji added, using the Arabic acronym for ISIS.

The coalition officially departed Taji military base in northern Baghdad on Sunday, making it the eighth base to be transferred to Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) this year.

The military force says successes in the campaign to defeat ISIS and protect personnel amid the COVID-19 pandemic have prompted the withdrawals. However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
Taji, as well as other sites with a foreign troop presence, are targets of regular rocket attacks said to be by Iran-linked groups.

US sends military gear to bases in Syria's Hasakah: Watchdog
More on this story from yesterday. Now we know where they came from.
[AlAhram] The US forces have brought 40 truckloads of military gear and armored vehicles from Iraq to US bases in Syria's northeastern province of Hasakah, a war watchdog reported Sunday.

The military gear crossed into the Syrian territory through the al-Walid border crossing from the Iraqi Kurdistan region on Saturday, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The shipment is the latest to reach US bases in Hasakah.

On Aug. 7, US armored vehicles entered areas in northeastern Syria and reached US bases in the region.

The United States maintains several bases in areas controlled by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Hasakah.

The Syrian government has repeatedly slammed the US troops present in Syria as forces of occupation, saying they entered the country without the consent of the Syrian government.

KRG releases imprisoned Yezidi woman to family
[Rudaw] After six years of separation, a Yezidi woman held in an Erbil prison after Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) captivity was reunited with her family on Sunday.

Hela Mahlo, 23, from Gir Ozer in Shingal was one of thousands of Yezidi women taken captive by ISIS hard boyz in August 2014 when the terror group overran the area, launching a genocide against the small ethnoreligious community.

"I am starting a new life and want to forget the past misery," Mahlo told Rudaw on Sunday. "All I want is to live with my family."

In 2019, she was arrested by Kurdish security forces in Kirkuk and held for one year and seven months in an Erbil prison. Authorities say they did not know she was Yezidi.

"She had denied that she was even a Yezidi in the beginning and had not given her real name," said Khairi Bozani, the Yezidi representative for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Religious Affairs.

"Therefore, no one from the security authorities even knew that she was a Yezidi woman because she only knew Arabic," he told Rudaw's Shayan Tahseen.

"I did not remember anything about my family. After I was arrested by the [KRG], I slowly started to recover my memory," Mahlo said.

Mahlo’s case rose to prominence last week after the family of Kurdish hostage held by ISIS said he would be released in exchange for Mahlo, who like many other Yezidi captives, was said to be married to an ISIS bad boy.

Kurdish authorities have consistently said they do not negotiate with bully boyz and that no prisoner exchange has taken place between the Region and ISIS or any other similar krazed killer group.

Before Mahlo was released, the family of the Kurdish policeman had urged the KRG to accept ISIS’ terms, which they hoped would save the life of their son.

"I want Jalal back," Baban’s distraught mother told Rudaw last week.

Mahlo’s brother Dakhil said their family is "thrilled" about her release.

"Yezidi or Moslem, whoever made us happy and released this girl to us, we are thankful for them," he said on Sunday.

Mahlo later visited the Yezidi holy site of Lalish to meet with spiritual leaders.

Now that she has reunited with her mother and brother, they hope they will soon reunite with their missing father and three brothers.

According to data from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, 2,885 Yezidis remain missing. Bozani believes "many of them are at al-Hol Camp and others are still in areas that ISIS had once ruled."

Many Yezidis are afraid to reveal their identity for fear of being harmed by ISIS families.

"We cannot say they are missing, but that we cannot find them and they exist. Many of them have Hela's problem. They are brainwashed, so they do not dare reveal their identity or are threatened by their captors that if they return to us, their families may not accept them or kill them."

Iraq will stop gas imports by 2025: oil minister
[Rudaw] Iraq will be entirely self-reliant for its domestic gas needs within five years time, the country’s oil minister told state media late Sunday, despite currently importing the vast majority of the resource from neighboring Iran.

"We [Iraq] will not import gas by 2025," Ihsan Abdul-Jabar, Iraqi oil minister told al-Iraqia TV in a televised interview. "At least 80 percent of the [needed] gas projects in Iraq are under implementation already."

At present, Iraq imports the majority of its required electricity and natural gas from Iran, unable to meet its own needs.

The minister predicts Baghdad will ease its energy dependency by putting a stop to gas flaring, an efficient, but wasteful common practice in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. He says the country can quit burning off its own resources by 2025.

Iraq has suffered chronic electricity shortages since the 1990s. War, sanctions, and corruption prevented the oil-rich country from keeping pace with rapid population growth. Prolonged blackouts regularly spark urban unrest.

Iraq's finance minister, Ali Allawi said during an online interview with the Atlantic Council on Friday that Iraq will significantly reduce its heavy reliance on Iranian energy imports as soon as next year.

Abdul-Jabar accompanied Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi on his recent visit to Washington DC for the second round of US-Iraq strategic dialogue, during which a number of oil and energy agreements were signed. Among them was an agreement with US energy giant Chevron, which Abdul-Jabar says will put "Iraq at the forefront of countries that produce energy."

The US, which has re-imposed sanctions on Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
since 2018, has granted Baghdad several waivers to continue imports of Iranian energy without penalty. However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
Washington ultimately expects Iraq to gradually reduce its reliance on Iranian gas and electricity imports.

The current waiver, Iraq’s ninth, issued in May, gives the country 120 days to continue its energy imports without financial penalties for the trade. It is set to expire next month.

Iran exports 1200-1500 megawatts of electricity to Iraq on a daily basis, in addition to 38 million cubic meters of natural gas to feed several of Iraq’s power stations, according to Sayyid Hamid Hosseini, secretary general of Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce. In June, Baghdad and Tehran signed a two-year contract to continue the imports.

Iraq has also signed deals with German giant Siemens and American General Electric to overhaul its outdated electricity grid.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Army Finds 'Hydric Acid' Stock at Beirut Port — update: possible hoax
No need to panic — the professionals are on the job. I’m in shock — I didn’t think this kind of thing was real. Recall, Beirut Port and a good portion of the city of Beirut in Lebanon were recently destroyed when a warehouse full of over 2,000 tons of forgotten fertilizer blew up, so it’s good that they’re dealing with whatever else is stored there. And really, it would serve Hezbollah right if the country turns on them for this.
[AnNahar] The Lebanese Army said on Monday that its troops found several containers of "hydric acid" (dihydrogen monoxide) in the disaster-hit Beirut port, ensuring that the chemical was handled safely and according to "scientific" means.

The Lebanese Army-Orientation Directorate said in a statement that its troops scanned Beirut port between "August 12 and August 22 and found 25 containers" storing the material. It assured that "safe, and scientific" steps have been taken to address the chemical material.

Hydric Acid, aka Dihydrogen Monoxide, is a colorless and odorless chemical compound which can be found in the atomic components of explosive and poisonous compounds such as Sulfuric Acid. It is also a major component of acid rain.

The army statement added that another 54 containers storing other (unspecified) materials were found. "A leak constitutes danger," warned the army, noting that necessary measures were taken.

Precautionary measures and comprehensive surveys are ongoing at the port and are carried out by specialized teams of the Army Engineering Regiment in cooperation with a team of French experts in the port, said the statement.

The army assured the chemicals were safely handled according to scientific means in coordination with the port’s related authorities.

2,750 tons of the ammonium nitrate stored for six years at Beirut port went kaboom! on August 4 flattening large parts of the capital, killing more than 180 people and leaving at least 300,000 homeless.
