Afghanistan
U.S. to provide CH-47 Chinook helicopters to Afghan Special Mission Wing
Flying is the killer app in Third World warfare... and it’s cheaper to gift them helicopters than more of our dead.
[KhaamaPress] The United States has approved a plan to provide Ch-47 Chinook helicopters to the Special Mission Wing of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces.

The Department of Defense informed regarding the planned delivery of the helicopters in its semiannual report which it recently provided to the U.S. Congress, covering events during the period of June 1 to November 30, 2019.

The report, Enhancing Security and Stability in Afghanistan, states that "The United States continued to provide the ANDSF the necessary equipment and training to improve their capacity during this reporting period and focused advisory efforts at the "point of need" with reliable security partners to increase their effectiveness."

"DoD continued to provide additional combat aircraft to the Afghan Air Force and plans to provide CH-47 Chinook helicopters to the Special Mission Wing to support its counter-terrorism operations and replace its Russian-made Mi-17 helicopters," the report said.

The report also added "During this reporting period, DoD approved a plan to provide the SMW with CH-47 Chinooks to fully replace its Mi-17 fleet by the end of 2023."

This comes as Efforts are underway to bolster the capabilities of the Afghan Air Force.

The NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
-led Train, Advise, Assist Mission officials had earlier said that the alliance would step up efforts to triple the size of the Afghan Air Force by 2023.

Libyan state oil firm says output down 75% due to blockade
[AlAhram] Libya's oil production has plunged by around three-quarters since Libyan National Army (LNA) led by commander Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
launched a blockade a week ago, the National Oil Company announced Saturday.

The fall, from 1.2 million barrels a day to just over 320,000, has caused estimated losses of $256 million since the closure of major oil fields and ports in the east and south of the country, the NOC said in a statement.

LNA began an offensive in April last year to seize the capital Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
from the UN-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA).

Pro-LNA forces blockaded the main oil terminals in eastern Libya the day before a summit in Berlin on January 19 that called for the end of foreign interference in the conflict and a resumption of the grinding of the peace processor.

Exports were suspended at the ports of Brega, Ras Lanouf, al-Sidra, al-Hariga and Zweitina in the country's "oil crescent".

The NOC also denounced the closure of valves at a pumping station in the southwest, which shut down production the major fields of al-Sharara and al-Fil.

‘It was a horrendous massacre by the Nazis ... We’ve come here as an Islamic delegation to say these words and through tangible actions’

Note that according to the related article from 2020-01-24:
The AJC said that Al-Issa led a delegation of 62 Muslims, including 25 prominent religious leaders, from some 28 countries.

Robert Satloff, executive director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, said that Issa has had a moderating effect on the Muslim World League, which once propagated “a virulent strain of anti-Israel and anti-Semitic writing, thinking and preaching.”

Under Issa’s leadership, Satloff said, the organization has shifted its approach to curb hardliners and reach out to other faiths.

[Jpost] An official admitted that the company had restored the domain to Fars by using DNS spoofing, a type of hacking that redirects users to the wrong website when they try to access a certain URL.

The Iranian Fars News Agency used DNS spoofing, a type of computer hacking, to restore its '.com' domain after it was blocked by the US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control's order on Saturday, according to Radio Farda.

One official from a company owned by Iran's Ministry of Telecommunications admitted that the company had restored the domain to Fars by using DNS spoofing, a type of hacking that redirects users to the wrong website when they try to access a certain URL.

Two arrested Bangladeshis entered India in 2018 to commit terror acts, NIA says in charge sheet
ISIS has been doing its best in India, but doesn’t seem to be making much headway.
[HindustanTimes] The charge sheet states both the accused were in possession of fake Aadhaar cards provided by their handlers in Bangladesh. From Tripura, they went to Bangalore where they spent the next 8-9 months and conducted a recce of several public places in the city.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday submitted a charge sheet against two Bangladeshi nationals in a Mizoram special court, alleging they had entered India with the intention of carrying out terrorist acts and had surveyed several cities including those in Bangalore to carry out their act.

The charge sheet submitted at NIA special court in Mizoram’s capital Aizawl states that Mahmud Hassan (25) and Mohamad Sa’ad Hussain (31) are members of Ansar-al-Islam,
...back home in Bangladesh they were known as Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), sometimes called simply Ansarullah. Ansar-al-Islam is the name they took when they became the Bangladeshi branch of Al Qaeda in the India Subcontinent. They are notorious for murdering secular Bangladeshi bloggers and writers, plus others who catch their malign attention. In 2015 a target list was found naming bloggers, writers, and activists living abroad, and in 2017 an ABT man was arrested in India for recruiting for ISIS....
a banned terrorist outfit in Bangladesh.

The duo were arrested in July 2019 in Mamit district of Mizoram where they were moving around suspiciously and couldn’t provide valid identity documents or the purpose of their presence in the area. The case was handed over to NIA in September the same year.

During the investigation, it was established that Hassan, a resident of Narsingdi district of Bangladesh and Hussain, from Magura district of the neighbouring country, entered India illegally in November 2018 through the international boundary in Tripura.

The charge sheet states both the accused were in possession of fake Aadhaar cards provided by their handlers in Bangladesh. From Tripura, they went to Bangalore where they spent the next 8-9 months and conducted a recce of several public places in the city.

It further states that both accused tried to procure weapons from various places in Tripura and Mizoram in order to carry out terrorist acts on the instructions of their handlers in Bangladesh.

NIA charge sheets 5 members of Bangladesh terror group JMB-ISIS in Assam
Is ISIS still cool after losing their caliphate the hard way? At any rate, here is another of their Indian subcontinent affiliates.
[HindustanTimes] According to the charge sheet, the five accused men procured weapons and ammunition with the aim of committing terrorist acts.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday filed a charge sheet in a special court in Guwahati against five members of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh
The JMB is said to be the youth front of Al Mujahideen, the parent organization that began working toward establishing Bangladesh as an Islamic state in the mid 1990s, which remains obscure and probably defunct today. Other organizations, such as Jama'atul Jihad, JMB, Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB), Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HUJI), Hizbut Tawhid, Tawhidi Janata, Islami Jubo Shangha, Islami Shangha, Al Falah A'am Unnayan Shanstha and Shahadat-e al Hiqma are believed to be part of the Al Mujahideen network. The JMB at its peak was reported to contain at least 100,000 members, and an alleged 2,000-man suicide brigade, few of whom actually exploded. JMB allegedly received financial assistance from individual donors in Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Libya. Reports have claimed that funding of JMB by international NGOs like Kuwait based Society of the Revival of Islamic Heritage (RIHS) and Doulatul Kuwait, Saudi Arabia based Al Haramaine Islamic Institute and Rabita Al Alam Al Islami, Qatar Charitable Society and UAE-based Al Fuzaira and Khairul Ansar Al Khairia. The top leadership of JMB was captured in 2005 and hung in 2007, which pretty much shot their bolt.
(JMB), a Bangladeshi terror outfit banned in the neighbouring country and in India.

The charge was filed against Hafizur Rahman, Yakub Ali, Sariful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Mohammed Hafiz Safiqul Islam, all residents of Barpeta district in Assam arrested in July last year.

According to the charge sheet, the case came to light with the arrest of Hafizur Rahman from his house in Barpeta and the seizure of a country made revolver, several rounds of live ammunition and some Jihadi literature.

Based on his interrogation, the local police started the paperwork but haven't done much else and arrested the four other accused. The case registered under sections of Arms Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act was later transferred to the NIA.

Investigations by the NIA revealed that all the accused were recruited to JMB by one Sahanur Alom, a resident of Barpeta who was arrested by the agency in 2014 for his involvement in the Burdwan blast case of West Bengal in which two people were killed.
..forcing us to conclude our miscreants were recruited before the 2014 arrest...
Alom has already been convicted and is serving a eight year jail sentence on charges of "conspiracy to commit terrorist acts in India and recruiting and training other members of JMB".

"Accused persons in the instant case have undergone training as JMB cadres in Barpeta at the house of Sahanur Alom and some accused were also trained at Simulia Madrasa in West Bengal," said a NIA release.

The charge sheet states that the five accused procured weapons and ammunition with the aim of committing terrorist acts.

Valley residents irked after limited, slow Internet back
[HindustanTimes] People were glued to their mobile screens since morning to check if the Net was working. By afternoon, there were some signs of restoration, but people were frustrated by the slow speed.
This is the kind of situation when practicing gratitude changes nothing but the level of frustration.
With 2G mobile and low-speed internet being slowly restored in all districts of Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
after 175 days, people are now demanding full restoration of mobile internet as well as broadband services.

People were glued to their mobile screens since morning to check if the Net was working. By afternoon, there were some signs of restoration, but people were frustrated by the slow speed.

Social media is also out of bounds. "We want full restoration of internet at full speed. This (speed) is distressing," said Waseem Ahmad, a trader.

According to residents, they have been able to access only a limited number of websites.

On Friday, the administration had decided to restore mobile internet and fixed-line connectivity in all districts from Saturday, a day ahead of Republic Day. Last Saturday, the government had restored voice and SMS services on all prepaid cellphones across Jammu and Kashmir and also started 2G data services in two Valley districts ‐ Bandipore and Kupwara.

On Friday night, J&K home secretary Shaleen Kabra issued a notification for restoration of 2G internet services on mobiles and fixed landlines across Kashmir.

Sheikh Ashiq, president, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries, said restoration of the internet was one of the main demands of the federation. "We are hopeful once restored fully, it will work properly.’’

Ishfaq Ahmad, who works with a private company, said it was people’s right to get internet facility. "We suffered a lot due to the restrictions, even traders faced big losses. Instead of slow-speed internet, the government should restore it fully. There is no reason to put curbs now when six months have almost passed.’’

Cellphones, landline and internet services were disconnected in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir on August 4, a day before the Centre withdrew its special status and divided it into two Union territories ‐ J&K with a legislative assembly, and Ladakh without one.

The government has gradually restored phone lines, but broadband and high-speed mobile internet services remain suspended.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, Buford bit the snake and Eloise began speaking in tongues...
authorities again snapped the internet services on Saturday evening citing security reasons in view of Republic Day.

The service is likely to be resumed after culmination of Republic Day celebrations on Sunday, officials said.

"The mobile internet services were temporarily suspended this evening ahead of the Republic Day functions," an official said.

Palestinian Leadership Plans to Foil President Trump's Peace Plan by Inciting Mass Protests
Sight unseen, they reject it
[Legal Insurrection] Palestinian leadership has a "clear and unwavering position" to reject President Trump's peace proposal, says spokesman for Palestinian Authority president Abbas.

Never missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity, Palestinian leadership has decided to thwart U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan by inciting mass protests, media reports suggest. "Palestinian officials warned over the weekend that US President Donald Trump's plan for Mideast peace, which is expected to be announced on Tuesday, would spark a new wave of mass protests in the West Bank and Gaza Strip," the Jerusalem Post reported.

Even before the details of the peace deal are made public, the Palestinian Authority has emphatically rejected the U.S. initiative.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Israeli ISIS militant dreams of return to Tel Aviv
How very sad for him. The heart bleeds. *urrrrp* S’cuse me!
[Rudaw] An Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) prisoner originally from Israel has said he regrets joining the caliphate in Syria and dreams of returning to Israel, he told Rudaw on Sunday.

Saif Dawood travelled from Tel Aviv to Syria via Istanbul in 2015, when the group had taken control of vast swaths of Iraq and Syria and declared it a caliphate.

Dawood claims he was a nurse in Raqqa, then the nerve center of Islamic State in Syria, working as a first aid trauma medic until 2017. He is now held in a north Syria prison run by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Dawood told Rudaw his only intention in coming to Syria was "helping the Syrian people from the dictator Bashir al-Assad."

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
he then said he was also drawn in by then ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s promises that "this state would be on based on the Prophet Mohammed" ‐ a claim he said was misleading.

He said it was wrong for him to have joined the holy warrior group ‐ but does not regret it.

"I don’t regret joining ISIS, because I have learned a lot from this mistake, and I admit now that I took a wrong step."

Dawood had been in a Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) jail for four months until January 2018, when he said he fled towards Kurdish areas in northern Syria, where he was taken into custody by the SDF.

"I wish and dream that I could break out of prison and go back to Israel," Dawood told Rudaw. "Escaping from this prison is but a dream for me, as security here is tough."

Dawood is a native of Kafr Bara, a town 30 minutes away from the city of Tel Aviv. Israel should take him back because he is a citizen, he says -
Did he not give up his citizenship in human kingdoms when he joined the New Men of Allah’s kingdom on Earth? How, then, can Israel possibly take him back?
however, he would be unable to fight their refusal to do so as he is now too "fragile and weak."

ISIS exacted brutal rule over the territory it controlled, including the subjection of thousands of women and kiddies to capture and abuse.

With the support of the Global Coalition against ISIS, the SDF was able to take control of Baghouz, the holy warriors’ last bastion in Deir ez-Zor province, in March 2019.

The Kurdish-led forces captured thousands of ISIS fighters in the battle to retake the town. It currently holds an estimated 2,000 foreign ISIS fighters and 8,000 local ISIS gunnies in northeast Syrian detention centers.

An additional 70,000 women and kiddies affiliated with the group are held in camps across Syria, including al-Hol, in the northeast Syrian province of Hasaka.

Kurdish authorities transfer 21 orphans from Syria’s Al-Hol camp
[Rudaw] Syrian Kurdish authorities have transferred 21 foreign orphans of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS)-affiliated parents from the overcrowded al-Hol camp to the better equipped Roj camp in Hasaka, an official confirmed to Rudaw on Saturday.

The transfer was made when the management team at al-Hol grew "concerned about the future of a large number of children at the camp," said Abdulkarim Omer, co-chair of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (NES)’s Department of Foreign Relations.

"The Roj camp is better equipped and suitable for children to provide them with a good education," Omer said.

"It was very difficult to deal with those children in a proper way due to the lack of education facilities and trained specialists at al-Hol," he said.

"We are calling on foreign countries to take back their children because their presence in the al-Hol camp will result in negative consequences for their future," he added.

According to AFP, citing al-Hol camp official Jaber Mustafa, some of the transferred orphans are of French, Egyptian, and Dagestan
...a formerly inoffensive Caucasus republic currently bedevilled by low-level Islamic insurgency, occasional outbreaks of separatism, ethnic tensions and terrorism, primarily due to its proximity to Chechnya. There are several dozen ethnic groups, most of which speak either Caucasian, Turkic, or Iranian languages. Largest among these ethnic groups are the Avar, Dargin, Kumyk, Lezgin, and Laks. While Russers form less than five percent of the population, Russian remains the primary official language and the lingua franca...
i origin.

Until the 21 children were moved, some 224 orphans were living in al-Hol camp.

At the request of Gay Paree, the two French children are to be handed over to a representative of the French government who will then repatriate them to La Belle France, another official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told AFP.

Al-Hol in northeast Syria shelters around 75,000 people, many of whom fled the last ISIS holdout of Baghouz in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province when it fell to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in March 2019.

Among them are thousands of wives and children of ISIS fighters from Syria, Iraq, and western countries. More than two-thirds are children.

Human Rights Watch reported "dire" camp conditions in October 2019. Around 340 children have died at the camp as a result of poor medical facilities, malnutrition, and hypothermia, according to the International Rescue Committee.

At least 12,000 al-Hol residents are foreign nationals. Their repatriation from Syria and Iraq has sparked intense debate in Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
and beyond, particularly in cases involving children.

European countries, fearful their radicalized citizens could pose a security risk if they are permitted to return, have in many cases refused to take them back. However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
La Belle France, Belgium, Germany and Denmark are some of the countries who have taken back children born to ISIS-affiliated parents.

Iran has passed low uranium enrichment threshold for a nuke - Iran official
[Jpost] Actual nuke still requires decision to weaponize, deliver.

Iran's Deputy Atomic Energy Organization Director Ali Asghar Zarean posted a surprising report on Saturday stating that it had passed 1,200 kg. of low level enriched uranium. The IAEA and a number of Iran-watch groups regard 1,000 kg.'s of low-enriched uranium as enough for a nuclear bomb, which means that if the announcement is not disinformation, it could be a major turning point.

If true, the news could substantially accelerate the point at which Israel and the US might need to decide if they will intervene militarily before Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
develops a nuclear weapon.

There is still time for Israel and the US to deliberate, as to fire a nuclear missile, Iran would still need to decide to enrich the 1,200 kg. to 90% weaponized uranium and would need to develop a method to deliver the nuclear material ‐ something IDF Chief-of-Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi has said could take another year.

The announcement was shocking as the last update about the Islamic Theocratic Republic's uranium stock set it at under 400 kg. and less than two weeks ago Kochavi predicted that Tehran would not reach 1,300 kg. until the end of 2020.

Other brass hats like former IDF intelligence chief Amos Yadlin had predicted Iran would not reach this threshold until the summer or early fall. Even former IAEA official Olli Heinonen (now at the Stimson Center) had not predicted Iran would get to this point as fast, suggesting April might be the earliest.

Prior to the 2015 nuclear deal, Iran had roughly ten times as much uranium ‐ enough for 10 nuclear bombs ‐ but never enriched any uranium above the 20% level ‐ a medium level that it has not yet reached this time.
Two sources The Jerusalem Post spoke to were unsure whether the announcement was accurate or a disinformation campaign.
