Egyptian authorities re-arrest leading rights activist
[PRESSTV] A prominent Egyptian pro-democracy activist who was released on probation earlier this year has been re-arrested in Cairo, his family says.

Alaa Abdel Fattah’s family said he was detained as he was preparing to leave a cop shoppe in the capital on Sunday morning.

"I arrived at the cop shoppe and I found the place where he spends the probation empty. I asked them where Alaa was... The chief detective came out and told me that Alaa is at the national security prosecution," media outlets quoted his sister, Mona, as saying.

Abdel Fattah, a blogger and software engineer, was released in March after serving a five-year sentence for taking part in a peaceful protest against military trials for civilians. Under the terms of his release, authorities required the activist to report to the cop shoppe and spend every night there for the next five years.

Security sources said Abdel Fattah had been taken for an investigation over accusations of publishing false news and inciting people to protest.

Mohammed al-Baqer, a lawyer representing the activist, was also detained late on Sunday while waiting for the interrogation of his client to start at the national security prosecutor’s office.

France expands rape probe against Islamic scholar Tariq Ramadan
[AlAhram] The French authorities have expanded an investigation against Tariq Ramadan, a leading Islamic scholar already charged in La Belle France with raping two women, to include evidence from two more alleged victims, judicial sources said Sunday.

Ramadan, a Swiss national, 57, has already been charged in La Belle France with raping a disabled woman in 2009 and a feminist activist in 2012. He denies all the charges.

Gay Paree prosecutors earlier this month instructed the investigating magistrate handling the case to look into the evidence from "two new potential victims" over incidents that took place in 2015 and 2016, a judicial source told AFP, confirming a report in Le Journal du Dimanche newspaper.

Investigators took witness statements from the two women after they were identified from documents found on his computers. The women themselves have not filed a criminal complaint.

But they both say they were led into a brutal sexual relationship with Ramadan, one from November-December 2015 and the other in March 2016.

"It was something other than physical rape, it went beyond that... there was a moral rape," one of the women said in her testimony seen by AFP.

"He had such a hold on you that you did everything that he demanded. But this relationship was consensual, yes," she said.

"I asked him to be milder, but he said 'it is your fault, you deserve it' and that he needed to be obeyed, which is what I did," the other said.

Le Journal du Dimanche said prosecutors believe the two testimonies contained "serious and concurring" evidence that could incriminate Ramadan.

Ramadan was taken into custody in February 2018 and held for over nine months before being granted bail.

Authorities in Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
are also investigating him after receiving a rape complaint in that country while two other criminal complaints of rape have been filed relating to incidents in March 2018 and July 2019.

Ramadan has in the last week gone on a media offensive to deny all the allegations against him, publishing a book called "Duty of Truth" and insisting all his relationships have been consensual.

Ramadan was professor of contemporary Islamic studies at Oxford University until he was forced to take leave when rape allegations surfaced at the height of the "Me Too" movement in late 2017.

The Grand Turk
Kurdish filmmaker faces up to 15 years in jail for terror-related charges in Turkey
[Rudaw] Prominent Kurdish director, filmmaker and photographer Kazim Oz will be tried in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
on Tuesday, on terror-related charges dating back to 2010. If found guilty, he could face a seven to fifteen year jail sentence.

Oz, 46, detailed the charges for which he will be tried at a court in Tunceli (Dersim) province in a tweet on Wednesday.

Charges include "being a member of a terrorist organization" for attending an event hosted by the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) ‐ a predecessor of the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) ‐ and participating in a protest against the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government in Istanbul’s Gezi Park protests in 2013.

The filmmaker was arrested in November 2018 as part of the case, but was conditionally released two days later.

"The ’witch hunt’ launched by the government against anyone who opposes it continues to grow to include artists," he said in the tweet, adding that the move is "punishment" for the films he has made over the last 20 years.

Turkey bans films or any other productions that it deems "propaganda" for the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) - an gang struggles for cultural and political rights of Kurds in Kurdish-majority areas in Turkey, and designated a terrorist organization by Ankara.

Oz spoke to Rudaw in March about the making of Zer, a fiction film in which a Ottoman Turkish-American protagonist traces his true ethnic heritage to Kurdistan and shines light on the Ottoman Turkish government’s systematic murder of an estimated 40,000 ‐ 70,000 Alevi Kurds.

Asked about the difficulties encountered in the making of the film, Oz said Ottoman Turkish authorities actively suppressed its production.

"By the time Zer was in post-production, political tension was running very, very high. Not only did the Ministry of Culture withdraw its support for Zer, they actively began trying to suppress the film. As far as I know, Zer is the only film in Ottoman Turkish history that was first supported and then suppressed in this manner," he explained to Rudaw.

His work has been screened and awarded in Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
and the United States.

He Bu Tune Bu (Once Upon A Time), a film about Kurdish labor migration in Turkey, was screened at Hamburg 3001 Kino in Germany on Saturday.

"Anything you do about the Kurdish issue, anything with the word ’Kurd’ in it gets a backlash from the government, especially recently," he said.

Films broaching controversial topics beyond the Kurdish issue have also been known to face governmental pressure.

Oz expressed defiance as he awaits Tuesday’s trial, vowing to continue his craft.

"I’d like to make cinema in a free and democratic country. But even though we’re not in a country like that, I will continue to make movies under any circumstances."

Fallujah: Hundreds of Sunnis missing 3 years after PMF retook city
One remembers that it was the Fallujans who hanged the charred, mutilated bodies of four Blackwater contractors from a bridge, chanting, “Fallujah is the graveyard of Americans,” back in 2004, which does make it harder to sympathize.
[Rudaw] When Iraqi police and the predominately Shiite Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) entered the Saqlawiyah district of Fallujah in Iraq’s Anbar province on June 4, 2016, they detained hundreds of local Sunnis, accusing them of fostering ties with the Islamic State

That’s Yiddish, that is! No doubt quite a few here understood immediately what you said, dear European Conservative. But I had only a ten week course in the language when I was in high school. Sadly, I was several years into German and Hebrew at that point, so for that quarter I answered wrong in all three classes, my first, shocking introduction to intellectual limitations. My father would have been able to tell me, but he died a few years ago — and Mama is a good Hildesheimerin who was not permitted to speak dialect, so she also does not know Yiddish.

US unilateral sanctions crime against humanity: Iran diplomat
[PRESSTV] Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the UN office in Geneva says the US sanctions and unilateral punitive measures have very broad and serious impacts on the fundamental human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
and are tantamount to crimes against humanity.

Addressing the 42nd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
, Esmaeil Baqaei Hamaneh, said the international community has announced that imposing sanctions are against international law, warning that the continuation of such an unlawful approach by certain countries poses a threat to global peace and security and challenges the structure of the collective security based on the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
Charter.

The senior Iranian diplomat also criticized UN Human Rights Commissioner Michelle Bachelet for not including in her report the negative impacts of sanctions on people's rights, calling for a serious measure to relieve the human suffering caused by unilateral sanctions imposed by some countries.

Baqaei invited countries to adopt legal strategies to reduce the impacts of sanctions, saying that the international community's consensus on the need to oppose the extraterritorial implementation of illegal sanctions could play a leading role in this regard.

Iran’s monthly capacity for gasoline export could top 3mn tons: Official
[PRESSTV] A senior Iranian oil ministry official says monthly capacity for exports of gasoline could reach three million tons.

Alireza Sadeqabadi, who heads the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), said on Sunday that Iran’s current production of gasoline, around 115 million liters a day, was enough to pump more than 500,000 tons of the fuel for monthly exports.

He said, however, that the NIORDC was ready to increase the export capacity to three million tons a month to generate around 1.5 billion in revenues for the government.

The calculations provided by the official were based on figures obtained from sell-offs of several cargoes of gasoline at Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
Energy Exchange (IRENEX)) over the past eight weeks.

Sadeqabadi said refineries operated by the NIORDC had pocketed more than $430 million in revenues for selling gasoline cargoes at IRENEX at a price of $500 per ton.

Exports of gasoline and other products derived from oil started in late August when authorities said there were growing demands from the neighboring countries.
