Afghanistan
Afghans call for ceasefire as peace summit wraps up
The problem with hudnas is that they are required to only last as long as it takes for the party more beloved of Allah — as self-defined — to prepare to launch the next round of fighting.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Afghan officials called for a ceasefire on Thursday as a huge peace summit wound down in Kabul after thousands of delegates spent days discussing possible conditions for a peace deal with the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
This week’s "Loya Jirga," or grand assembly, saw more than 3,000 religious and tribal leaders, politicians and representatives from across the country gather under tight security to discuss the possibility of peace.

The Taliban, who were not at the talks, are this week separately meeting in Doha with US peace envoy Zalmay Khalilzad in a bid to make a deal with Washington that could see the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan.

While the full results of the summit may not be announced until Friday, several committee leaders said they wanted to see an immediate pause in violence, which has continued apace across Afghanistan even with various peace summits taking place.

"Every day, Afghans are being killed without any reason. An unconditional ceasefire must be announced," said Mohammad Qureshi, head of one of the jirga’s many committees.

Huge swathes of Afghan society worry that if the US does make a deal with the Taliban, the holy warrior group would try to seize power and undo advances in women’s rights, media freedoms, and legal protections.

The Taliban has steadfastly refused to talk to the Afghan government, which it views as a puppet regime.

That means that even if the US and the Taliban can agree to a deal to end the war and a timetable for an eventual troop withdrawal, the holy warriors must still forge some kind of an accord with Afghan politicians and tribal elders before an enduring ceasefire could kick in.

"We dont want such a peace that women’s rights are not respected, freedom of expression are not ensured, elections are not held," committee member Faizullah Jalal told the summit.

Several delegates also rejected Taliban and opposition calls for an interim government when President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
’s term expires this month.

"It is you who will show the government the way towards peace and the government will do what you demand," jirga chairman Abdul Rab Rasul Sayyaf said.

"No one will impose anything on you," he said.

Several opposition figures had boycotted the assembly, complaining it amounted to a political rally for Ghani, but Sayyaf said the summit was not aimed at supporting any particular candidate for the September presidential elections.

Sudan orders Bashir interrogated over suspected money laundering, terrorism financing: Judicial source
[AlAhram] Sudan's public prosecutor has ordered the interrogation of ousted President Omar al-Bashir
Head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself president-for-life. He has fallen out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it.
on suspicion of money laundering and financing terrorism, a judicial source told Rooters on Thursday.

In April, the prosecutor began investigating Bashir over accusations of money laundering and possession of large sums of foreign currency without legal grounds. Large sums of money were found in suitcases in his home.

Huge crowds join sit-in outside Sudan’s defense ministry
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Hundreds of thousands of protesters joined a sit-in outside Sudan’s defense ministry on Thursday to press the ruling military council to hand over to a civilian government.

An alliance of activists and opposition groups called the Alliance of Freedom and Change had called for a mass march in the capital.

The Alliance is now demanding that the military council which took Bashir’s place be replaced by a joint civilian-military council, although they say the number of members is yet to be finalized.

On Thursday, protest leaders presented the council with a proposal for the new civilian structures they want see rule the country.

Protest leader Satea al-Haj told news hounds that the transitional civilian government should be of 17 ministers, while the legislative body should include 120 to 150 members.

He said the alliance was expecting a response from the military council in "48 to 72 hours".

The protest leaders insisted on Thursday that the civilian administration they intend to establish must include representatives from gangs who spent years battling Khartoum during the regime of ousted leader Omar al-Bashir
Head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself president-for-life. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it.

Three gangs are currently part of the Alliance for Freedom and Change which spearheaded protests since December that led to the ouster of Bashir.

"We will not have a transitional (civilian) structure without representatives from the gangs," said Khalid Omar Yusef, a leader from the Alliance for Freedom and Change umbrella group which has led the protest movement.

He did not name specific gangs.

Since 2003, Sudan has been rocked by rebellions in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions.

Tens of thousands of people have died in those areas since ethnic minority rebels picked up arms against the forces of Bashir, accusing his administration of political and economic marginalization.

In recent years, the violence has waned as rebels and Khartoum reached a series of ceasefires, but none of the rebel groups joined a civilian administration during Bashir’s iron-fisted rule.

Many Darfuris feel that their demand for justice for Bashir-era officials should be a bigger priority for protest leaders.

Hamas leader Sinwar heads to Egypt to discuss truce with Israel
[IsraelTimes] Gazoo terror group turns to Egyptian intel chief to mediate return to ceasefire, after a day of rising tensions following arson balloon attacks.

A Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", delegation led by the group’s Gazoo chief Yahya Sinwar left the enclave for Cairo on Thursday for talks with Egyptian officials on a truce with Israel, Hamas officials said.

Egypt has long been the broker between Israel and the terror group that runs Gazoo.

In November it brokered a fragile truce agreement whereby Israel eased its blockade of the Gazoo Strip in exchange for calm.

That agreement has appeared to be under stress in recent days, with Paleostinians launching arson balloons and rockets into Israel and Israeli warplanes striking Hamas targets.
In retaliation. Kinda forgot that part, hmmm?

Hamas front man Fawzi Barhoum said Sinwar "left Gazoo for Cairo at the invitation of the head of the Egyptian intelligence service, Major General Abbas Kamel."

The visit was aimed at discussing "bilateral relations and ways to lessen the suffering of our people," he said in a statement.

A Hamas official said the truce agreement would be discussed.

Israel’s air force carried out air raids early Thursday morning on "a number of terror targets in a Hamas military compound in the northern Gazoo Strip," a military statement said.

It said they were in response to the launching of incendiary and explosive balloons from Gazoo into Israel.

Paleostinian Lions of Islam responded by launching two rockets into southern Israel. The projectiles fell in an open area, and no injuries were reported.

The vote was 53 to 45, falling short of the two-thirds majority of 67 votes needed to override Trump’s veto in the 100-member chamber, and the minority Democratic camp could only muster crossover support from a handful of Republicans.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who supports Trump on Yemen, said the vote offered politicians "a second chance to send the right message regarding America’s commitments to our partners in the region, to important humanitarian missions, and to eradicating al-Qaeda from the Arabian peninsula."

It was only the second veto of Trump’s presidency. Both have been upheld.

Britain
Persecution of Christians is modern-day 'genocide', UK Foreign Secretary blames 'political correctness'
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Christians are 'by far the most persecuted' religious group and are enduring what amounts to genocide in some parts of the world, a report concluded.

They are being driven out of the Middle East in a modern-day exodus that means the religion could be wiped out in parts 'where its roots go back furthest', the study commissioned by the Foreign Office found.

And the report by the Bishop of Truro, the Right Rev Philip Mounstephen, found 'shocking' evidence that the persecution is worse today than ever.

Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt last night blamed 'political correctness' for a failure to confront the oppression of Christians, which he called the 'forgotten persecution'.

Mr Hunt said he would use Britain's diplomatic influence to defend Christians where they were under attack for their faith, and admitted the problem was sometimes neglected due to 'misplaced worry' that confronting it would be interpreted as 'colonialist'.

The bishop said the study found Christians are 'harassed' in more countries than any other religious group, and especially in predominantly Muslim countries in the Middle East and North Africa. His report found 245million Christians now suffer 'high levels of persecution' in 50 countries, a rise of 30million year on year.

In particular, they have been attacked by extremist groups in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, north-eastern Nigeria and the Philippines, as well as in India and China. He added that the Middle East is witnessing the 'decimation of some of the faith group's oldest and most enduring communities' and called for 'urgent government support'.

Dr Mounstephen said: 'Through my previous experience... I was aware of the terrible reality of persecution. But to be honest in preparing this report, I've been truly shocked by the severity, scale and scope of the problem.

'It forces us in the West to ask ourselves some hard questions, not the least of which is this: Why have we been so blind to this situation for so long?'

He said it is 'ironic' that 'Western secularists, Islamic extremists and authoritarian regimes' share the same misconception that Christianity is 'an expression of white, Western privilege', arguing: 'In fact, Christianity is primarily a phenomenon of the global South and the global poor.'

WILL BRITISH MISSIONARY BE A SAINT?
A British missionary who was murdered by Robert Mugabe’s fighters in 1979 has been nominated for sainthood.

John Bradburne, pictured, was killed by guerrillas when he refused to flee the leper colony he was running in what is now Zimbabwe as the 15-year civil war was nearing an end.

Now nearly 40 years after his death, bishops in Zimbabwe have put his name forward to the Vatican for consideration for sainthood.

‘Negative portrayal of Muslims in western media igniting hatred’
[DAWN] Persistent negative portrayal of Moslems in western media is igniting hatred against them and creating massive Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...
, a British journalist, activist and author said on Wednesday.
*cough* Dhimmi!
Lauren Booth is a British television presenter, broadcaster, journalist and activist and author of Finding Peace in The Holy Land. She was delivering a talk on ’Islam and the West: Bridging the Gaps’ at the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS).

Ms Booth is the sister-in-law of former British prime minister Tony Blair, and one of the most high profile converts to Islam in the West.

During her talk, she was firm that the real job of Moslems was to hold onto their faith and not to lose it in the face of violence. She regarded the frequently used term "clash of civilisations" as highly inappropriate, maintaining that the objectives of Islam have never been to induce a clash among civilisations but to alleviate and upgrade them to an improved level.
"the real job of Muslims was to hold onto their faith and not to lose it in the face of violence" Idiot. It IS the face of violence

#1  In 1970-71 Moslems killed qpproximately 3,000,000, that's three MILLION Hindu civiliians, mostly women and children in Bangladesh. Their Crime,? NOT being Moslems.
Pull a Hindu daddy's pants down and see he ISN'T Circumcised, and since you are a Moslem soldier you shoot Daddy in the crotch and leave him for the Buzzards, dogs and pigs to eat.) Allahu AKBAR.

The Indian govt invaded Moslem East Pakistan to put a stop to the Pakistani Moslem Govt killing of Hindu civilians and the war lasted just one dy short of two weeks with the Mighty Pak Army surrendering 93,000 prisoners. America sold ammunition to the Paks and sent an American Aircraft Carrier to Intimidate India. ( didn"t work ) Kissenger needed China and the Paks said they would speak to Mao and set up Nixon and Mao at the same table and make Nixon look good. So the Paks got 400 million $ of ammo. And then the India Army took half of Pakistan to the Trash can and the 93,000 Moslem Prisoners were shipped by cattle car in to Rann of Kutch ( the Mother of all Koochies) desert and handed shovels and sold back to Pakistan at a profit . But, you kind of expect that from Moslems, they are yellow piss as soldiers. ( have you noticed?). They may be the Religion of Piss, or was that Peace, but WHO actually has any respect for Moslems ? They kill people who are women and children and then 93,000 Moslems surrender when they get cornered by actual soldiers who CAN fight.

Gustavo Tarre denounced the operation of Hezbollah and the Islamic State in Venezuela before the OAS
[ELUNIVERSAL] Venezuela's permanent representative to the OAS, Gustavo Tarré, appointed by opposition leader Juan Guaidó, sworn in as interim president of the country, said Thursday that Hezbollah and the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group (EI) are operating in Venezuelan territory, noting that the The country has become "an important center of world terrorism".

Tarré said this during an extraordinary session of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS), convened by Colombia, the United States and Venezuela itself to analyze "the role of external actors" in the country shaken since January by a bid by the power between Guaidó, and Nicolás Maduro.

Venezuela has become "a destabilizing factor for the peace of the entire region," said Tarré, highlighting the interference of Cuba, Russia and Iran, all allies of Maduro.

"The most visible evidence" is the transfer to Venezuela of Colombia's internal conflict, which has strong ties to the Cuban revolution: currently, the National Liberation Army (ELN), the last active Colombian guerrilla, is present in 13 of the 23 states Venezuelans, he said.

Tarré pointed out that Venezuela has also "been involved in extra-continental conflicts such as Syria, in activities against the existence of the State of Israel, and in a very privileged relationship with Iran," which was strengthened after last year's departure from the United States. agreement with Tehran and other powers to stop Iranian nuclear development.

"Since then, the presence of Iranian mining technicians has increased in Venezuela in an absolutely noticeable way," he said.

He added: "We also know of the existence of training and identity supply centers for Hezbollah terrorists, of the Islamic State, known by its acronym in English ISIS, which have made Venezuela an important center of world terrorism."

In early February, two weeks after Guaidó invoked the constitution and declared himself interim president after considering a "fraud" the re-election of Maduro, the head of US diplomacy, Mike Pompeo, said Hezbollah was active in Venezuela.

Then, Maduro, whose mandate is unknown to the United States, but supported among others by Hezbollah, defined the Lebanese Shiite group close to Tehran as "a legal political party" and highlighted the existence of a Lebanese community in Venezuela.

Tarré, however, alerted the OAS members to the "threat" that this foreign interference poses to the region.

"It is not limited to the Venezuelan borders, it is to set foot on the American continent, in the Western Hemisphere," he said.

Turkey must hand over ‘murderers’ of alleged Palestinian spy, says cousin
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Ever since Ottoman Turkish authorities said that Paleostinian Zaki Mubarak who was charged by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
with espionage hung himself at Istanbul’s Silivri prison, all analyses in Ottoman Turkish media outlets have been focusing on the information which the Ottoman Turkish authorities revealed, and almost all published material in this context matched the official narrative.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Senate, Odius Sepulcher called for war against the Visigoths...
Lawyer Abas Mubarak, Zaki’s cousin, said the suicide story promoted by these media outlets is not true because Zaki did not have any tools to kill himself, adding that the purpose of promoting this narrative is to hide the truth.

He also warned Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
of hiding the truth behind Zaki’s "murder," and called on him to hand over the murderers to relevant courts.

Earlier this week, Istanbul’s prosecutor’s office said that Zaki Mubarak, who was held on suspicion of spying for the United Arab Emirates, has died in prison after hanging himself.

But, in an exclusive interview with Al Arabiya, the Paleostinian man’s family members rejected the Ottoman Turkish authorities’ statement, calling it "a mere charade," and accusing Turkey of killing him.

Zaki’s brother, Zakaria Mubarak, said in an interview with Al Arabiya that initially Ottoman Turkish authorities claimed the two detained men were UAE citizens. He added they later announced the men were Paleostinian, which he said proves that they are lying about his cause of death.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Senate, Odius Sepulcher called for war against the Visigoths...
in a Skype interview with Al Arabiya from Gazoo, his son Yusuf called for forming an international commission to investigate his father’s death.

He also questioned the Ottoman Turkish story, asserting that his father did not commit suicide, and accusing Ottoman Turkish security forces of killing him. Yusuf added that his father was a victim and "a scapegoat in a political conflict."

The proprietors, Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and Maulana Abdul Aziz Ghazi, unleashed their Islamic storm troopers on the city, shutting down whorehouses and beating people up who weren't devout enough. The Musharraf govt put an end to the nonsense by besieging the place. Abdul Aziz Ghazi was nabbed while he was trying to escape dressed up like a girl. BBC reported that the corpse count at 173, but other claims, usually hysterical, say there were up to 1000 titzup. Among their number was Abdul Rashid Ghazi. Everyone then said tut-tut and what a nice guy he had been...
after receiving an assurance from the attorney general that the Jamia Hafsa
... the Islamic nunnery maintained by Lal Masjid....
seminary will be reconstructed.

Firebrand Lal Masjid holy man Maulana Abdul Aziz
...nutball holy man who runs the Lal Masjid in the heart of Pakistain's capital. After instigating a rebellion against the state in 2007, he was caught trying to sneak away dressed in a burka. He rejects democracy as un-Islamic, which it probably is...
had in 2015 petitioned the court to ensure that the families of those killed in the July 2007 military operation were paid blood money.

After the operation, the government and the mosque administration, led by Maulana Aziz, had reached an agreement under which the Capital Development Authority would provide an alternative site for the reconstruction of the Jamia Hafsa seminary.

The petition, among other demands, had also called for the CDA to build a new madressah in place of the seminary for women that had been damaged in the 2007 operation and later razed to the ground.

Aziz had also asked the court to order the federal government to implement its October 2, 2007 judgement in the case.

Attorney General of Pakistain Anwar Mansoor Khan was present in court today as a two-judge bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard the case.

Khan assured the court of the construction of the seminary, and said that, administratively, it would fall under the government's control.

Aziz's laywer, Advocate Tariq Asad, came to the rostrum to argue that the case was not about one plot, but linked to various matters.

Justice Gulzar asked Asad to apprise the court of what angles of the case had been overlooked, to which the lawyer was unable to furnish an adequate response.

Both Justice Gulzar and Asad then exchanged sharp words, with the lawyer telling the court he was not arguing the case "just to pass the time" and the judge expressing his displeasure with the remark.

Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka Mass Cancelled over 'Specific Attack Threat'
[AnNahar] Sri Lanka's Catholic Church has cancelled plans to resume Sunday services following a "specific threat" of fresh kabooms against at least two places of worship, a front man said.

The archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, had wanted to resume regular mass from May 5, but the new information made them put it off indefinitely, his front man told AFP Thursday.

"On the advice of the security forces, we have decided not to have Sunday masses in any of the churches," the front man said. "There is a specific threat against two locations."

The Church had planned to resume Sunday public services for the first time since the Easter Sunday attacks that killed 257 people. Last Sunday the cardinal conducted a private memorial mass that was broadcast live on television after cancelling all public services.

On Tuesday, he said he was closely monitoring investigations into the April 21 suicide kabooms against three churches and three luxury hotels and wanted to be sure of the security situation before returning to regular services. The services were cancelled a day after all political parties scrapped May Day rallies amid fears of kabooms. The cardinal had hoped to start regular services at a few churches from Sunday and then expand depending on the situation.

- ARMED GUARDS -
Armed guards have been stationed outside churches across the country since the Easter attacks. The cardinal has also been given several bodyguards and a large security contingent. However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
he returned a bullet-proof limousine that was given by the government and instead travelled in an ordinary car.

"I am not afraid. I don't need bullet-proof vehicles to go about. The Lord is my protector," he said. "But I want security for my people, and for the country."

Police say they have placed in durance vile
Please don't kill me!
more than 150 suspects since the attacks and have accounted for all six jihadi suspects who were declared as most-wanted. Two suspects have been killed while the other four were in jug, police said.

The Easter attacks were blamed on the local National Thowheeth Jama'ath (NTJ) whose leader was among the jacket wallahs. The group had pledged an oath of allegiance to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
The corpse count from the attacks has climbed to 257, authorities said earlier Thursday, warning that the final number would rise further.

At least 40 of the dead are foreigners, with some missing tourists still to be accounted for.

According to the latest count, 496 injured were admitted to hospitals, with 47 still being treated and 12 of those in intensive care.

The government had given a toll of more than 350 but brought this down last week, blaming double counting of bodies that were badly mutilated in the six blasts.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
‘Use of oil as weapon by nations threatens OPEC’
[DAWN] Any country using oil as a weapon could cause the collapse of oil producer group Opec, Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh said on Wednesday, according to SHANA, the news outlet of the oil ministry.
Using oil as a weapon is why they have OPEC. I happened to be driving across country that year.
One would feel for them, if they hadn’t used oil as a weapon for nearly half a century. But right around the half century mark they will have discovered the hard way that this weapon points both ways. Now they can enjoy their return to their traditional role as Bedouins at the fringe of civilization — observers rather than actors on the world stage. Goodness knows the world will be better for lack of their interference.
Oil prices hit their highest since November in recent days after Washington said all waivers for those importing sanctions-hit Iranian oil would end this week, pressuring importers to stop buying from Tehran and further tightening global supply.

#2  In science class, they told us oil was composed of carbon atoms. But apparently it is made out of irony.

Enjoy your "traditional role as Bedouins at the fringe of civilization".
