North Korea is denying reports that portraits of leader Kim Jong Il have been removed from public places, calling the accounts a U.S. plot to overthrow its government, China's main state news agency reported Friday. "It didn't happen before, and will never happen," the Xinhua News Agency quoted Ri Gyong Son, a North Korean Foreign Ministry official, as saying in the North's capital, Pyongyang. Ri called the reports "an intrigue that the United States and its attaching countries want to overthrow" North Korea's government, Xinhua reported. Russia's Itar-Tass news agency reported this week, citing unidentified diplomats, that portraits of Kim were being removed from buildings in the secretive North.

French President Jacques Chirac continued a fence-mending but at times edgy state visit to Britain Friday reaffirming that the U.N. should decide on foreign interventions. "It's not for any given country to consider that a situation is open to stepping in and interfering," he told a question-and-answer session with students at Oxford University, according to the UK's Press Association. "It's up to the international community to do so and particularly the U.N., which alone has the authority to interfere," he said in remarks apparently aimed at the United States. The French president -- who backed a U.N. solution over Iraq -- added that if countries took such action of their own accord, it would "throw the door wide open to hosts of reason to wage wars under the guise of legitimate interference."
On Thursday, Chirac and British Prime Minister Tony Blair tried to put differences over the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq behind them, telling a joint news conference they both wanted a peaceful and stable future for the country. CNN's European Editor Robin Oakley called it "glassy smiles and gloss over time." Oakley said that Chirac and Blair were careful not to inflame their differences over Iraq -- and both made plain their eagerness to do anything they can to revive the Middle East peace process. But later the French leader took on a harsher tone, warning Blair that his drive to spread democracy across the world alongside U.S. President George Bush could be confused with a new colonialism.

In a speech to the International Institute of Strategic Studies, PA reported, Chirac went on to set out his own distinctive view of international relations. Chirac stressed the importance of dialogue between Europe and "the world's major poles" -- China, India, Brazil, Russia and various trading blocs. "For although our memory is sometimes short, the peoples submitted to the West's domination in the past have not forgotten and are quick to see a resurgence of imperialism and colonialism in our actions."

"North America and Europe... I think are predestined to work together because they share history, the same background and values."

lex...spot on. Chirac is becoming more and more like Paleo's - attempting to deflect from his own failure by blaming Americans and Jews. It seems to work well on Europeans. As Hitler proved a while back, the Euro's are happy to accept the idea of blaming "others', rather than demanding results from their leaders.
Chirac's owes his power to that ideal - expect him to get more and more shrill and outrageous as he has to work harder and harder to distract attention from the UN investigations.

What makes this so hypocritical is that Chirac is taking a position based entirely on French practical interests and dressing it up in terms of "legitimacy", which I assume was handed down by God to the UN when we weren't looking. Would the UN be legitimate if France were replaced by India on the Security Council? Would the UN be legitimate if all members of the UN except France had decided that military intervention in Iraq was necessary, and that France for its part was required to supply a trained and equipped force of 20,000 men? If it ever came down to a push between French unilateral interests and the will of the UN, Chirac would simply ignore the UN and its "legitimacy."

France says it is ready to release the medical records of late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to his nephew, who is due in Paris on Friday. French officials have so far denied the files to Palestinian leaders saying only family are entitled to the see them under French privacy laws. Paris now says Arafat's nephew, Palestinian observer at the UN Nasser al-Kidwa, is allowed to view them. The cause of Arafat's death last week has not yet been disclosed. This has in part fuelled speculation that he may have been poisoned. French officials have denied the rumour - saying privacy laws prevent them from making the cause of death public. It was not clear whether Arafat's wife, Suha, agreed to Mr Kidwa seeing the files or whether her consent was required.

The recent Dutch raid against a suspected military training camp used by Turkish Kurdish rebels is the largest crackdown against the group in Europe, which has become a base for autonomy-seeking militants to collect money, recruit and train, authorities say. Turkey has long demanded that European Union nations move against the rebel group, whose sympathizers run a satellite TV station in Denmark and collect funds - hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, say Turkish officials - in many major European cities where Kurds live. The Kurdish rebel's main military bases are in the Qandil mountains in northern Iraq and Turkey is also urging the United States to close those outposts - by force if necessary.
We're busy at the moment, but I'm sure we'll get around to it...
Both the EU and the United States consider the PKK - or Kurdistan Workers Party - to be a terrorist organization. Yet little action has been taken against the group in EU countries until lately. Meantime, fighting between Turkish troops and autonomy-seeking Kurds has killed some 37,000 people since rebels took up arms in 1984 - most in the 1990s before the ongoing Iraq war. The crackdown in the Netherlands came last week when Dutch security forces arrested suspected Kurdish rebels in a series of raids in which police confiscated night vision goggles, packages of clothing intended to be sent abroad and fake passports and identity cards.

The raids were conducted across the country, netting arrests in The Hague, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Amsterdam's Schiphol airport, and the town of Capelle aan den Ijssel. Most of the arrests came in a sweep of an alleged paramilitary training camp near Boxtel. The Kurdish arrests coincided with Dutch plans to adopt new laws to give security forces broader arrest powers to combat the growing threat from Islamic radicals. Although falling short of some U.S. measures adopted in the Patriot Act after the Sept. 11 attacks, the Dutch legislation would give authorities some of the most intrusive powers in Europe. The proposals follow the Nov. 2 slaying of filmmaker Theo van Gogh, whose latest movie denounced the treatment of women in Muslim countries. An alleged Islamic extremist has been arrested in the slaying, which has roiled European nations with large Muslim populations. The Dutch Justice Ministry said Wednesday that it plans to use anti-terrorism laws to prosecute at least 22 of the 38 arrested Kurds, but has no plans to extradite them to Turkey.
Nihat Ali Ozcan, a terrorism expert and author of a book on the rebel group, said the arrests were "a very dramatic development in fighting terrorism, especially in such a liberal country as the Netherlands. This is the largest crackdown in Europe on such a training activity and it is the first time that such an activity is being linked to terrorism."
"The Kurdish terrorists are exploiting freedoms enjoyed in Europe and we're sad that the European governments are turning a blind eye to this," said Mehmet Dulger, chairman of the Turkish parliament's foreign relations committee. "The terrorists are achieving this by intimidating and threatening those governments, saying 'We would create havoc here if you mess up with us.'" But Ali Yigit, a spokesman for the Confederation of European Kurdish Associations, said Kurds in Europe are simply promoting Kurdish culture and their meetings are within the law. "We are shocked by the actions of the Netherlands," he said by telephone from Brussels. "There are meetings everywhere in Europe. They are purely cultural meetings."

Turkey, in its zeal to shut down Kurdish rebel operations, has provided European intelligence organizations with information on the group that is so detailed that "we've even communicated the door numbers of terrorists living in European countries," said one Turkish intelligence officer, speaking on condition of anonymity. Turkish officials have long accused European countries of backing Kurdish rebels and the rebel cause is popular among some European leftists. The main Kurdish newspaper Ozgur Politika, which is illegal in Turkey, is based in Germany and often carries statements from imprisoned rebel chief Abdullah Ocalan. Turkish laws, some of which have recently been amended, have made it illegal to call for supporting the rebels or their aims. Many Kurds in Turkey's Kurdish-dominated southeast also watch Denmark-based Roj television, which broadcasts in Kurdish and carries statements and interviews from Kurdish rebel commanders.

On November 9, [Senator Norm] Coleman [chairman of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations [PSI]] and ranking minority member Carl Levin sent a letter to Kofi Annan asking for access to the documents in U.N. possession on Oil-for-Food (including some 55 internal audit reports) and interviews of key U.N. staffers. Among the staffers listed in the request were Benon Sevan, head of the Oil-for-Food program; John Almstrom, chief of its contracts-processing section; and Stephanie Scheer, who had been Sevan's deputy. That letter followed Annan's refusal of a similar request last September.
On Tuesday, [Paul Clouseau] Volcker [chief of the UN's independent committee investigating the Food-for-Oil Program] replied for Annan [in fact Volcker replied for himself], turning Coleman and the PSI down flat. Volcker said that the U.N. wouldn't release any of its papers or make its people available to the Senate, effectively blocking Coleman's investigation. In a letter to Coleman, Volcker said, "The clear purpose is to avoid potentially misleading and incomplete information that could impair ongoing investigation, distort public perceptions and violate simple concerns of due process." He objected to U.N. officials' appearing before the Senate committee, writing, "For a U.N. official to appear before the subcommittee in the current highly charged environment would plainly risk ending prospects for their cooperation with our committee and with subsequent potential criminal investigations." The only way for this to come to a head would be for the Iraqi government to disavow all debt to countries implicated in the Oil for Food rip-off, notably France, Russia, China, Germany, et al, and for the US to cut off all contributions to the UN pending full and complete disclosure, prosecution of all guilty parties, and full restituion to the Iraqi people. Failing that, we should look to revoke the diplomatic status of the UN staff and try out the RICO statutes on them.

Right on RWV. What kind of immunity does UN have in regard to civil lawsuits and for criminal matters. The visual of thousands of questionalbe lawsuits brought by thousands of seamy lawyers all over the country being defended by UN makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Although the individual diplomats do have certain diplomatic immunity, I believe that UN is "RICO-able." It may be just a fantasy, but it will make my weekend.

The SPDC said in a news conference in Rangoon that parcel bombs have arrived at Burmese embassies in Japan, Malaysia and Singapore. As these parcels had arrived from Thailand, they could be the handiwork of Moe Thee Zun who is now in Japan and based in Thailand - said Lieutenant-Colonel Nyan Linn to reporters. We asked the KNU's General Secretary and spokesman Phado Mahn Sha for his comments about the allegations:

The reason is we are based in our own territory and fighting for our freedom and they are nothing to do with us. What we have seen is - relationships among the SPDC members are getting more complicated. They could be attacking each other or they could be deliberately staging this scenario. First, the matter concerning Burmese Embassy in Japan we reserve great doubt and suspicion about it. It's not easy for a parcel bomb to travel from one region to another. We are very suspicious of the fact they knew it straight away as soon as they saw the parcel. I think they deliberately plotted and made the whole thing up.
Htet Aung Kyaw : Whatever the truth, they held an official news conference and they could pressurise the Thai authorities. How could this latest episode affect the opposition groups in Thailand?
Phado Mahn Shar : In my opinion, when it comes to this kind of thing, neither the Thai nor other international governments would be that stupid. I hope they could see the whole set up and situation.

Dr. Minn Nyo: According to the news from the (Japanese) police, they (the police) are quite suspicious of the fact that they were not told straight away. It is the third time it has occurred in Japan. The first was in 1989 when they told the police that they found a bomb on the main door of the ambassador's resident. The second time was when they claimed that a parcel bomb was sent to Lt-Colonel Tin Oo's house. They said that the parcel was sent from Japan and the authorities in Burma accused Burmese people who lived in Japan of sending the parcel. But the Japanese police and bomb experts personally checked the item. They said that there was no reason the parcel could have come through the Japanese postal system - even though they (SPDC) claimed to be so. Now, it's the third time. They seem to be saying that the bombs were sent from Thailand. Their assumption is - it could be coming by flights. In order to be able to go through the aeroplane, there are strict security checks either letters or parcel bombs are likely to be stopped at the airport. We are seeing that the local police here are not very suspicious of (Burmese) activists here.

Myanmar's military government began releasing almost 4,000 prisoners whose detentions were ruled improper, state-run radio and television said Friday. But there were no indications the releases include Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi and other political prisoners. The reports said Myanmar's ruling junta ordered the release of prisoners who had been wrongly charged by the former National Intelligence Bureau, an umbrella organization of internal security organizations that was dissolved by the junta last month. The bureau had been headed by former Prime Minister Gen. Khin Nyunt, who was ousted Oct. 19 and subsequently accused of corruption and insubordination.

Khin Nyunt's removal from power was believed to have been orchestrated by hard-line members of the junta opposed to his relative moderation in dealing with the country's pro-democracy movement, led by Suu Kyi. The freedom of political prisoners is a major demand of the United Nations and Western countries, who criticize the military regime for its poor human rights record and failure to hand over power to a democratically elected government.

On Wednesday, November 17, outgoing US secretary of state Colin Powell said to reporters during a South American tour: US has intelligence that Iran is working to adapt missiles for the delivery of nuclear weapons. "I have seen information that they not only have the missiles but are working hard to put the two together." The highly classified, unverified information Powell referred to was described in more detail by the Washington Post the next day: According to one official with access to the material, a "walk-in" source approached US intelligence earlier this month with more than 1,000 pages purported to be Iranian drawings and technical documents, including a nuclear warhead design and modifications to enable Iranian ballistic missiles to delivery an atomic strike.

The warhead design is based on implosion and adjustments aimed at fitting the warhead on existing Iranian missiles. DEBKAfile's military experts believe the data referred to the Shehab-3 and its improved version, the Shehab-4. The US official said he would not have revealed this much had not Powell alluded to the intelligence publicly. If the information is confirmed, it would mean the Islamic republic is further along than previously known in developing a nuclear weapon and the means to deliver it.

First take out the accessible air defense sites with cruise missiles. Then a sortie by multiple B-2's over Iran would not be too difficult, considering that it was done over Afghanistan and that we could enable aerial refueling enroute over Iraq...Assuming the same mission capable rate as during Enduring Freedom (55%) that would be approximately 10 B-2's which can each drop 16 separately targeted 2000lb. MK-84's. That's 160 separate targets.
Carrier-based US or Israeli aircraft could pick up the slack thereafter.

The other question is from whom would you expect the backlash? We flank Iran on two sides (AFG and Iraq) and as I understand it have implemented CASPIAN SHIELD to contain Iran from the North. I doubt Egypt and Jordan would do anything other than seethe...and Syria knows they are in our crosshairs. As for the Iraqis, I imagine a majority have very little love for the mullahs. Although, there may be some problems with their coreligionist Shi'a in the south.

This is no time for the usual 500lb or 2000lb laser guided bombs, unless it is a air defense target. The newer 500lb and 2000lb bunker busters must be used on every sortie in the initial phase. In my opinion, acquiring air bases is not a problem. Air bases in Afganishtan, Quatar, Baharin, Saudia Arabia, Iraq, and Israel is available. The new long range F16's can be launched from SOME these bases.

Cruisers in the Gulf could provide some protection for Israel. No amount of ABM would stop the Iranians from trying to smuggle something out. If they were caught in the act, it might well be considered an act of war, but I'm not sure the mullahs are sane enough to think that one through.
The US military knows. I donât, you donât, and Henry Solkoski is certainly no longer current. But every day and in every way very smart people here are thinking up dastardly things to do to those who are trying to kill us. And that means that the Iranians could be in for what is colloquially known as a big fucking surprise.

The lethal fragment zone for a Mk84 is one mile - that means that it is possible to be killed by a fragment of the bomb at that distance. I'm assuming the USAF has some sort of data to back it up, but that is what it said in the technical data.

PR, my theory is to build enough of a safe guard against piss ant nuclear states to force them to either bankrupt themselves or give up the game. Yes, there's a hell of a risk, life is a risky damn business. Israel is an ally. So is Great Britain. What's the question?
What I meant is that Israel can't even afford to take one of these nuke warhead hits. Israel must take out the Iranian nuke threat. ABM is not going to cut it for Israel. But, protection for the U.S. is probably sufficient with massive rollouts of ABM's.

I say up the internal pressure first with a naval blockade of all Iranian oil shipments. Once things start stewing on the streets, pick off Natanz or Busheir and their largest naval, air force and Revolutionary Guards bases. That's the kind of canoe tipping that may get this deal done.

Four Iranians accused of spying on the Islamic republic's nuclear program for foreign governments have gone on trial in Tehran, a judicial official was quoted as saying yesterday. "These individuals, who infiltrated nuclear facilities and managed to win the confidence of the officials, were spying for foreign countries," Ali Mobacheri, the head of Tehran's revolutionary courts, told the government newspaper Iran.
Sounds like they had jobs in the facility.
"They are in prison and their trial is under way," he added.
It always sucks when you're caught spying.
He did not identify the accused, say when they were arrested or specify which countries they were allegedly spying for. But the paper said that "in the past these individuals also spied for Iraq". In August, Iran's Intelligence Minister Ali Yunessi announced the arrest of a number of "spies" who sent information on Iran's nuclear program to foreigners. He said the People's Mujahedeen, an armed opposition group based in Iraq that the regime in Tehran labels as "hypocrites", had played the central role in the espionage.
Pity they are a terrorist group, they seem to have infiltrated Iran pretty throughly. Course, they did manage to get themselves caught.
The group's political wing, the National Council for Resistance in Iran, in 2002 revealed two key nuclear sites Iran had been hiding, including an uranium-enrichment plant in Natanz. And on Wednesday the group alleged Iran was hiding a uranium enrichment facility in Tehran and aims at getting the atomic bomb next year. The group also said the father of the Pakistani atomic bomb, Abdul Qadeer Khan who has admitted to running an international nuclear smuggling network, delivered bomb designs and weapons-grade highly enriched uranium to Iran. Iran angrily denied allegations by the group that it was running a secret nuclear bomb facility near Tehran, and indicated that UN inspectors would be allowed to visit the site. "I totally deny these allegations. This site is not a nuclear site and has nothing to do with our nuclear activities. Iran has no undeclared nuclear activities," top diplomat and nuclear negotiator Hossein Moussavian told AFP.
"Iran has no undeclared nuclear activities. Iran has never had any undeclared nuclear activities."
Moussavian said Iran has already "declared all our nuclear sites and all our nuclear activities" to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
I trust them as much as I trust Iran.

Thousands of mainly Christian students demonstrated in Beirut's streets Friday to protest the presence of Syrian troops in Lebanon. The march was organized to mark Independence Day. "Syria out of Lebanon," read one of the banners hoisted by the protesters who shouted anti-Syria slogans such as, "Put an end to Syrian occupation." Muslim leftist parties also staged a sit-in Friday to protest violations of the constitution and public freedoms committed by the pro-Syrian regime of President Emile Lahoud. They were mainly protesting the amendment to the constitution at Syria's behest allowing the extension of Lahoud's mandate by three years. The Syrian army was dispatched to Lebanon in 1976 as part of a pan-Arab deterrence force to end Lebanese civil strife, which continued until 1990.

An Iranian exile group accused Tehran on Friday of using advanced laser technology to secretly enrich uranium and of lying to the United Nations nuclear watchdog body about the covert program. The opposition group, which has given accurate information before and made other accusations on Wednesday, said Iran was making bomb-grade uranium at the Lavizan facility in Tehran it disclosed two days ago, and at Parchin, 30 km from the capital. The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) said Iran was also seeking to develop a warhead to put on its medium-range Shahab-3 and Shahab-4 missiles, a development outgoing Secretary of State Colin Powell warned of on Wednesday. Iran promised the European Union on Sunday that it would freeze its uranium enrichment program, a move which spared it a referral to the U.N. Security Council for possible sanctions. It dismissed Wednesday's accusations as a "well-timed lie." NCRI's Mohamad Mohaddesin said the West was being duped by Tehran and urged the United Nations to act now in order to foil Tehran's bid to build a nuclear bomb in 2005.

"In recent months, the Iranian regime officially declared to the IAEA (the U.N. nuclear watchdog) that it has shut down its laser enrichment program," Mohaddesin told a news conference in Paris where it has a large base. "This is a completely false declaration by the Iranian regime ... They are using this laser technology in at least two military sites, maybe more." He said Lavizan, a former munitions factory, switched to uranium enrichment about 18 months ago using laser equipment. A military complex at Parchin had been conducting similar work since 2000, he said.
Isn't that a little too high tech for the Iranians?
Mohaddesin, who used commercial satellite photographs to support its case involving the two sites, said that the Iranian authorities had stepped up security around the Lavizan site since its revelations. On Wednesday, NCRI said Iran had obtained weapons-grade uranium and a nuclear bomb design from a Pakistani scientist who has admitted selling nuclear secrets abroad.

Several months of combat testing of a new U.S. Marine Corps robot, the nine pound Dragon Runner, have apparently been successful. Built to survive rough handling (like getting tossed out a third story window, or the back of a truck moving at 72 kilometers an hour), the 15 inch long, foot wide and five inch high vehicle runs on four tires. It does this right side up, or upside down. The remotely controlled robot carries day and night cameras, as well as microphones and motion detectors. Normally, it creeps along at walking, or creeping, speed. But it can sprint at up to 32 kilometers an hour (about eight meters a second), which is useful when trying to evade enemy fire. Dragon Runner is not bullet proof. But the robot can be ordered to just sit in one place and observe. It's motion sensors can pick up people moving from up to ten meters away. Dragon Runner can be ordered to alert the operator if anything is detected. The robot is operated via a hand held controller that operates like a hand held game console (Game Boy, Etc.) The controller has a vibration mode for getting alerts from a Dragon Runner on sentry duty. This is because this sort of thing will probably happen at night, when being quiet can be a matter of life and death.
Battery life depends on what the droid is doing. On sentry duty, it can go for up to 24 hours before needing a new battery or recharge. If running around a lot, the battery lasts about four hours. The full name of the droid is Dragon Runner MGS (Mobile Ground Sensor), and it can be equipped with weapons, like explosives or something like a tear gas grenade, to deal with hostile troops inside a cave or bunker, or, more likely, to detonate a road side bomb. For that task, the robot would dump the explosive, which has a radio controlled detonator attached, and then back off. The wireless communications system used to control the robot has a range of up to several hundred meters, depending on how built up the area is. It's expected that marines will most often used the robot within a hundred meters of where they are.
Dragon Runner is being used in Fallujah, where it is very useful going into areas that might be covered by enemy snipers, or booby traps. So far, two of the droids were damaged in combat, but have been repaired and returned to duty. The twelve prototypes, nine of which were sent to Iraq, cost $60,000 each (including the control unit). But if produced in larger numbers, the cost would come down to about $30,000.

Robots like this have a great future. A larger robot might generate copious amounts of tear gas, while traveling through a building smashing down doors. Another might create a skin-pain-inducing 50' microwave bubble about it, that would clear out an enemy position. Currently, the military are working on "swarming" mini-robots where hundreds might fly through a cave or a building doing all sorts of things.

If I recall correctly, the "flip over" design is an old one, having been implemented as a toy available from Walmart at $49.95 plus tax. I DISTINCTLY recall buying the boys a couple several Christmases back. I was damned impressed with its stability.

While the anti-government forces have been crushed in Fallujah, and in other cities where they have come out to fight, they have continued to be successful fighting the Iraqi police. Because the police are hired locally, many of them are either loyal to the Baath Party or pro-Sunni tribal or religious leaders. Bribes and threats are also used to make police support the anti-government forces. Bringing in men from other parts of the country to be police creates problems with these "foreigners" (even though they are Iraqis) not being accepted by the locals. Attacks continue on police stations, including kidnapping of policemen, as well as killing, policemen who cannot be bribed or otherwise intimidated. Yet Iraqis continue to apply for jobs in the police and security forces. Despite the continued media (mostly Sunni Arab outfits from outside Iraq) support for anti-government forces, inside Iraq, public opinion is growing increasingly hostile towards the Sunni Arab minority. This is a problem for the government, as it can lead to civil war, because the majority Shia Arabs and Kurds have an ancient hatred for the Sunni Arabs and would not mind a bloody campaign against the entire Sunni Arab community. But the continued Sunni Arab attacks, which mostly kill innocent civilians, increase the risks of large scale retribution by the majority population.

The traditional approach, used to effect by both Diaz and Tito, is to have one ethnic group police the others. They have no connection with the locals, and the mild distaste actually leads to some degree of honesty. As long as they have a national police affiliation and training, and a higher headquarters to insure that they do not become abusive, this works very well.
Russia is joining the war in Iraq -- sort of. Russia's Defense and Security reports on Friday that Russia is ready to resume deliveries of arms and military equipment supplies to Iraq ("Shock, Awe and Russian Weapons," Vladimir Ivanov, Andrei Terekhov). Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said on Thursday: "If the corresponding request is received, Moscow will resume deliveries of Russian-made, rather than Soviet-made armaments on [a] gratuitous basis." According to Ivanov, Russia will train Iraqi servicemen to drive the Russian-made military vehicles. According to Colonel General Yuri Baluyevsky, chief of the Russian General Staff, who met with General James Jones, Commander Allied NATO Forces Europe, the new Iraqi authorities asked the Americans on November 6 to supply two armored divisions with hardware. Since the Pentagon did not want to supply its up-to-date military equipment, the order was shifted to the Russian army.
Hummmm, now what do you suppose they need two armored divisions for? Heh heh.

I'm sorry to go on here, but I've got something worthwhile to say.
The only way that a free society can combat propaganda, while still protecting free speech, is to follow its money trail and expose it for all to see.
Blogs have allowed those of us paying attention to see that groups like ANSWER, CODE PINK, ACT, ACORN, RUCKAS SOCIETY, mothers against guns...(whatever it's called) etc. etc. are all organized and funded from a very few individuals sharing office space in NY and DC, that have clear with ties to the Communist party and other nefarious sources. This isn't paranoia, it's fact.
But what about the news media? How is it that NPR, BBC, MSNBC, ABC, CBS..etc. etc. all seem to make exactly the same decisions on their editorial boards. Sure, some of it is from laziness and wires - but am I the only one to find it interesting that editors from Small Town, Kansas towns are in such lockstep with editors from New England and Wyoming? How can that be a random occurrence?
We are told that virtually every hometown paper across the US ..from Boise to Military Times... being gobbled up by the likes of Gannett ..is simply a financial decision. But is it? I don't know. But it is time we look a bit closer and find out.
The world is and will always be full of useful idiots. Going after the idiots, like Sikes, is a waste of time. We need to look to the leaders, the ones at the top who hire the useful idiots and expose the funding and ties that bind them. It's not the reporters at the BBC or CBS or the professors of humanities that we need to go after - they are a dime a dozen, but those who have orchestrated and assured the placement of individuals who can be counted on to provide a very consistent anti-American position. And the only way we can do that is to follow the money trail up to the very top.
The blogs cannot do this alone. The government must step in and determine if there is a monopoly in news - and if so, break it up so that we can have what we believe in, a "free and independent press".

A radio talk show host drew criticism Thursday after calling Condoleezza Rice an "Aunt Jemima" and saying she isn't competent to be secretary of state. Linda Hoskins of the NAACP's Madison branch said she could not comment on Sylvester's remarks until she had heard them in their entirety.

Subservience is expected -- the President is in charge. Dr. Rice is better qualified than many people who have held the office, and she also has already earned the trust of the President and respect at the Cabinet table. The only people I've ever heard speak poorly of her are the leftist "morning personality" trashers like this guy. They are a bunch of mouthy backseat drivers who trash everybody.
I suggest that we all stop affectionately calling her "Condi" and simply call her "Dr. Rice". It's good preparation for 2008.

I've read a couple of biographies about Dr. Rice and seen here in action on the TV. 'Subservient' is definitely not a term that comes to mind. Professional, intelligent, ass-kickin leader was more of what I was thinking.

Sad to say, it's because he was the incumbent. It'a normal trend. Dr. Rice would get a slightly higher percentage of the black vote than President Bush, but not much more. Perhaps we need to do a futures on this.
African-americans heavily favor Bush's faith-based initiatives. I'll keep my bet on Rove figuring out a way to gain a significant increase (>10% incr.) in Repubs' share of their votes next time around. With Condi on the ticket it's a given.

One long-term strategy for Rice advocates would be to emphasize the racism of the Islamo-fascists: continued slavery and slave-trading, and such things as Michael Moore's minutemen resisting a "negro occupation" (as one of them called it a while back).
This should all be linked to the far left's support for these fascists and the MSM's cover-up of that racism. The facts are there for all of this, and the effect would be to give the lib plantation the Sherman treatment.

What is it with liberal and their standing ovations? Did you see the 2 hour standing ovation that they gave Jim MCGreevey before he began his "resignation" speech. Oh..yeah...we are so proud of you for dragging our good state through the mud and giving jobs in homeland security to people who agree to f*&^ you. We are sooo proud of you Jim.!!
Or the one they gave Clinton in the Rose garden after he was impeached. Or the one the Rubin awards gave to Ted Rall - Or calling Powell and Rice Uncle Toms and Plantation Mammys.
I could go on and on. I think it's all part and part of that adolescent spirit that they never managed to grow out of.

French President Jacques Chirac continued a fence-mending but at times edgy state visit to Britain Friday reaffirming that the U.N. should decide on foreign interventions. "It's not for any given country to consider that a situation is open to stepping in and interfering," he told a question-and-answer session with students at Oxford University, according to the UK's Press Association. "It's up to the international community to do so and particularly the U.N., which alone has the authority to interfere," he said in remarks apparently aimed at the United States. The French president -- who backed a U.N. solution over Iraq -- added that if countries took such action of their own accord, it would "throw the door wide open to hosts of reason to wage wars under the guise of legitimate interference."
