Hikmatyar: Al Qaeda did too do 9/11!
KABUL: Hizb-e-Islami leader and Afghanistan’s former Prime Minister Gulbadin Hikmatyar said the September 11 incident was an action carried out by 19 Arab fidayeen hailing from Al-Qaeda, Geo News reported Saturday.

He was talking to Geo News in its program ‘Jirga’ with renowned journalist Saleem Safi, in connection with 9th anniversary of 9/11 incident.

Responding a question regarding a conspiracy theory involving Jews in the Nine Eleven incident, Hikmatyar said the Jews are completely devoid of capabilities to carry out incidents such as these, adding also the Jews could not prepare anyone for sorts of actions.
Which shows what he knows. Nonetheless, he of all people ought to know who was involved then.

Either the Five Jew Bankers and their evil juicy minions are dastardly schemers who have managed to keep the entire Islamic world is a state of backwardness, uproar and economic slavery OR the Juice lack the intellect to find their way home after work. Can't be both. Which is it Hek?

Bad turbans swarm Somalia
[Iran Press] Somali Information Minister Abdirahman Omar Osman warned that foreign terrorists have flocked to Somalia in recent months, joining militant forces attempting to turn the Horn of Africa country into an al-Qaeda haven.
Jihadi tourists. Originally they went to Afghanistan to "fight" the Soviets. Later it was Iraq, where as I recall 50,000 got themselves killed, and an unknown number went home maimed. Now they split between Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia. How many of those will not find their way home, except in an unmarriageable state? Darwin always wins, you see.
"We are very much concerned about the influx of foreign terrorists coming to Somalia. The only way to stop terrorists from coming to Somalia is to have effective institutions which can bring peace and stability to the country. The TFG renews its appeal to the international community to support the TFG and AMISOM [African Union Mission for Somalia] forces with a view to ending the atrocities committed by al-Shabab," he said.

In addition, 25 people were killed on Thursday after a car bomb was detonated at the gate of Mogadishu's airport, where a high-ranking international delegation was having talks with the leaders of the Transitional Federal Government.
Let's see: we've got the cannon fodder in the car, the guards... who made up the rest of the twenty-five? I think we can safely assume none of the target internationals were hit by much more than a flying splinter. O Ineffective Lions of Islam!

#2  Excellent -- all the non-Somali hajis gather in Somalia where they stand out like a sore thumb. Arabs, Chechens, Pakis, and Uighars are visually distinctive from the Somali population; and if they follow the AQ script from Iraq and Afghanistan, they will start car bombings and IEDs soon. Which will kill lots of Somali civilians and turn them on the hajis.

Egypt frees 10 more Bedouin detainees in Sinai
[Arab News] Egypt's interior minister will free a further 10 Bedouin detainees, state media and security sources said on Saturday, part of government efforts to assuage long-running tensions in the Sinai Peninsula.

Cairo has released some 200 Bedouins since Interior Minister Habib El-Adly met with tribal leaders in July to explore ways of bringing calm to the area, the sources said.

Bedouins, among nomadic Arab tribes in the Sinai, often complain of neglect by the Cairo government and say tough living conditions have led some of their people to resort to smuggling and other activities considered criminal by the state.

In June, tribesmen angry at heavy-handed security tactics set tires ablaze near a pipeline supplying natural gas to Syria and Jordan. The state responded with a change in tactics, including the release of some detained Bedouin.

But some unrest has continued. Armed and masked Bedouin tribesmen hijacked a bus in late July from an industrial area in central Sinai.

The latest decision to free detainees coincided with Eid Al-Fitr, which ends the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, and "in the framework of the efforts being made to free all Bedouin detainees," the official Middle East News Agency (MENA) said.

About 400 Bedouin remain in jail, many of whom were detained under Egypt's emergency law instituted after Islamist militants assassinated President Anwar Sadat in 1981 and which allows detention without charges for indefinite periods.

Brisbane atheist burns Koran and Bible

A Brisbane atheist is bracing himself for a criminal investigation after posting an online video showing him burning the Koran and Bible. Lawyer Alex Stewart appears to smoke marijuana using pages from the religious texts, before rating which "burns better". The homemade video was posted on video sharing website YouTube on Friday.

It came after international condemnation of a firebrand pastor who threatened to burn 200 Korans to mark the anniversary of September 11 terrorist attacks.

During the 12-minute film Mr Stewart says he is performing an experiment to test whether the Islamic or Christian text is more conducive to burning. He says people offended by the experiment are taking it "too seriously".

"It's just a f...ing book, who cares," Mr Stewart says.

"Like you can burn a flag and no one cares, people get over it so with respect to books like the Bible, the Koran, or whatever, just get over it.

"I mean, it's not as though they're burning your copy, they're burning somebody else's.

"That said, I don't think it's completely appropriate unless it's done for a good purpose, which I'd say I have done today."

Serbia Indicts Nine Men in Kosovo Killings
BELGRADE, Serbia (Reuters) — Serbia has indicted nine former paramilitary members over the killing of 43 ethnic Albanians during the 1998-99 Kosovo conflict, the country’s war crimes prosecutor’s office said Saturday.

The move appeared to be a sign of Serbian resolve to deal with its wartime past and burnish its effort to join the European Union. A crucial condition for Serbia’s membership is that it prosecute atrocities committed by Serbs during the 1990s wars in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo.

The indictment was the product of a decade of investigation, and was one of the most significant since pro-Western Serbian authorities started arresting former military, paramilitary or police figures on suspicion of war crimes after the ouster of President Slobodan Milosevic in 2000.

Nine men who served with a paramilitary unit known as the Jackals were indicted in connection with the killing of the ethnic Albanian civilians in the Kosovo village of Cuska on May 14, 1999, said the statement from the Special War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office, based in Belgrade. They were detained in March.

The statement said the suspects “showed immense cruelty” and often fired a “large number of rounds into the backs of their victims. “They later burned bodies to conceal evidence and prevent identification of their victims,” the statement said.

The indictment arose from cooperation between the prosecutor’s office and Eulex, the European Union judicial and police mission in Kosovo, the statement added.

The Jackals fought alongside Serbian security forces in Kosovo. They were also implicated in rapes, beatings, plundering, and burning of homes and property, the statement said.

Trump offer to buy muslim rabbat building in NYC declined as "pathetic"
PR or not, it kinda makes me wonder what kind of money and motivation is behind this project. Trump offered them way more than they could expect in a flat market considering the market savvy of the folks who sold the building to the muslims in the first place.

Besides, Donald needs no publicity or PR.

But if they are bound and determined to park the mosque just there, for the reasons given in the 'rabbat' article, and will ram it in without any consideration for 70% of public feeling... I am suspecting that those American politicians and intellectuals who assist the Mosquetos in doing this will eventually regret having done so.

B.O.: US will never be at war with Islam
(Ma'an) -- US President Barack Obama on Saturday said the United States was not at war with Islam, speaking on the anniversary of the 11 Sept. 2001 attacks in New York, Washington, DC and Pennsylvania.

"As Americans we are not - and never will be - at war with Islam," Obama said.

Referencing an extremist US pastor's since-cancelled plan to burn Korans, Obama said, "They may seek to exploit our freedoms, but we will not sacrifice the liberties we cherish or hunker down behind walls of suspicion and mistrust. ... "They may wish to drive us apart, but we will not give in to their hatred and prejudice, despite the terrorists' efforts to spark conflicts among faiths."

The Marine Corps Hymn line of "To the shores of Tripoli" deals with the Barbary Pirates; Teddy Roosevelt sent a naval force to Morocco to rescue American hostages; Eisenhower sent troops to Lebanon when the Islamists threaten it in the 1950s; and today we fight the Islamists all over North Africa, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

#16  Very little is currently being said about what appears to be the new policy of enemy 'non-engagement' or disengagement in Afghanistan. "Presence patroling" up and down major supply routes and peering out of FOB's will not defeat AQ or the Taliban. I suspect this political, civil-military engagement (play nice - hearts and minds strategy) is coming directly from the White House and is costing the lives of soldier and Marine lives nearly every day. General McChrystal's recent departure from command in Afghanistan must surely be a confirmation of his and his staff's frustration with the White House and the administration's political bent and strategic guidance. Last week's refusal from the Pentagon to NATO for additional manpower is telling. My preliminary assessment is we've already thrown in the towel in Afghanistan. General McChrystal saw it coming and in a rough manner of speaking, walked off the stage with some dignity intact.

The timetable for withdrawl in Afghanistan has been set and I remain confident President Obama will meet it, regardless of the recent caveats and backpeddling. As NATO begins to recognize the obvious, there will be a wholescale withdrawl by our European Allies and who can blame them. The second phase of the withdrawl timeable is already well into the planning stages. That being the total transformation, read that dismantling, of the US Military.

Just my assessment. I hope I am wrong.

#17  The Hearts and minds focus only works if the medcaps and civil stuff is laced with intel guys and once the intel is developed it is acted on. The program works if the command is willing to go back after the civil projects are done and roll up the bad guys.

As for our pres being a muzzie or not. He was born and raised muzzie. His moral values and views of the world are ingrained from childhood. Being a practicing muslim or not is now irrelevant, he was cast into that moral view. He is probably christian, or adopted radical black views veiled in Christianity, rev Reid. regardless of his current religion, his core belief system is Islam, as demonstrated by his we are not at war with Islam statement.

But then his point is taken and who we are at war with is much more complicated that just Islam. Islam is the thread, no doubt, that laces the countries together in their war against America and the West. We are at war with the Islamic belief system, we are also at war with rich nations where Islamic beliefs drive decisions. We are at war with the Saudis, Saudi businesses, Iran, Libya, and all of the Islamic ruled nations. The image that comes to mind of Zero is him standing on a football field wearing a basketball uniform and holding a tennis racket while Islam and the nation states that are at war with us are in football gear. He is not even in the game!

You and I both know there aren't enough 'operators' in theater to come close to achieving this goal. The bad guys that are being "detained" are questioned and quickly released with Happy Meal, shower, and a smile.

#22  I don't think President Obama has ever truly been a Muslim, no matter what the Musliims may think. He has several handicaps to belief built into his upbringing: his mother was not only a Red Diaper baby as the child of active cadres of the American Stalinists, but she trained and worked as an anthropologist -- and anthropologists look at all faith systems as quaint and colourful misinterpretations of the universe. I have no doubt young Master Barry heard a great many rants on the subject from before he could even talk. Second, by birth and parentage, he was fated to be an outsider wherever he found himself:

half-black, but that half African, not African-American, so completely unconnected to African-American history and personal experiences, no matter how he tried to graft it on later;

the adopted American child of a local Indonesian, and so never completely part of the local society, no matter that he went to local schools and played with the village children. I'm sure it didn't help that his mother must have provided educational enrichment at home not available to his classmates, which meant he knew and believed things they didn't ("No, Barrykins, djinns are not a constant factor in physics problems, I don't care what your teacher says. Do it her way for the homework grade, but do it again my way if you want to go to college some day. So often these quaint local customs are counterproductive, you know that!");

as the child of a local employee of an international company, where the other Americans were there on ex-pat plans that provided a completely different standard of living... Little Barry would have been invited to the pool parties and other corporate functions, but probably never invited to play dates, because really, one doesn't mix with the locals like that, it gives them ideas above their station. This would not have mixed well with his mother's communist and anthropological ideas, not to mention widely known American ideas on innate equality.

In retrospect, it's no wonder his mother sent him back to America to live with his grandparents. For someone as insecure as little Barry must have been, it would have been a living hell. I s'pose we all can be grateful she didn't send him to a Swiss or an English boarding school, like so many expats do, when their careers put them in places inappropriate for offspring. Come to think of it, I have a cousin whose parents ended up in Kenya, who sent her to a nun-run boarding school in England, which she describes as useful for having built in her a love for reading in libraries. So little Barry's relief at living somewhere that welcomed him must have intertwined with being sent away by the woman at the center of his universe...

#23  As for the "at war with Islam" thingy: there are several forces at play here, some of which Fred brought up in his editorials of the last two days.

1. We are not at war with Islam as such. We are at war with those who work to impose Sharia upon us. There are Muslims who are not interested in that, and there are Muslims who are actively working with us to prevent that. Plus the supposedly six million per year leaving Islam altogether through apostasy or conversion.

2. Islam is at war with itself at the moment, over whether attempting to impose Sharia on unbelievers is an acceptable goal, whether by the hard jihad of the sword or the soft jihad of the law. Most of this discussion we do not see, although there are occasional reports of a book published by this or that theoretician of Islamism explaining the theological basis for their decision to rescind support for jihad against the infidels... and for jihad toward establishment of the caliphate altogether. See here and here for real-world examples. (Well done, ryuge!)

But we absolutely are at war with those who are at war with us, at this point the jihadis and their more or less quiet supporters around the world. If Islam can get its act together, it can quietly surrender to the Enlightenment which defeated its supremacy, just as the Christian sects did in the past.

#24  Obama has managed to make a statement that's both amazingly stupid and dangerous for the United States.

Obviously no human being (even an absolute dictator) can commit a nation to a policy for all eternity. Obama just doesn't make sense here.

Second, 'never' also means 'regardless of "Islam's" actions'. The literal meaning of this statement is that 'Islam' could e.g. openly attack the US and kill hundreds of millions of Americans, and yet there would be no military reaction. Nuts!

Good thing that this Dumb Chimperor guy isn't in office anymore!

#26  Mr. Smartest President Ever please quit telling us we are not at war with Islam and never will be. It appears to me that since 9/11 every targeted attack, successful kill and battlefield arrest by our military has been a Muslim. Every American killed on the battlefield was killed by a Muslim. Am I missing something? Sir if you think that polite talk will stop the violent jihadists then you need to go back to Chicago and resume stapling fliers on telephone poles.

#27  tw, I wonder how large the number of muslims is that want to establish and impose sharia law in the U.S.? How many might be moderate and opposed to sharia law. I have grappled with these notions at times. On one hand, I know we have muslim interpreters and people in the military working for us. At times, some of these people go jihad such as at Ft. Hood or the grenade fragging incident early in the Iraq war. Occasionally, I hear some muslim on TV who sounds sensible and is opposed to sharia law or the building of the victory mosque but it seems like the voices are in the minority (a small, small minority). Because 9/11 occurred, and there have been constant attempts to kill Americans in the U.S. and abroad I tend to reject all of islam as having evil intentions.

I have seen numbers such as about 7% of the muslims (about 80 million) in the world are radicalized muslims. That is a sizeable number and potentially a sizeable problem for us.

The population of Japan was about 72 million in 1939. The population of Germany was around 80 million in 1939. Certainly not all the Japanese or the Germans were supportive of the Emperor or Hitler at the time. So the number of people we were at war with shortly after 1939 might have been quite a bit fewer than 80 million. Just presenting this to give a scale of magnitude.

#28  regardless of being an anthropologist, she married two different muslims,

Yes, she did, Goober dear. But, not being a woman of faith herself, she likely thought of them as romantically dark, Third World heroes, rather than followers of the pedophile prophet. Also, it sounded like both men were not very religious... and Barrack, Sr. was a committed polygamist who likely only married her for the convenience of an on-site sexual partner. Mr. Soetero (sp?) sounded like he tried to be as good a husband and father to little Barry as he was capable of. Barrack, Jr. appears to me entirely too cynical and striving to be coolly intellectual to be capable of religious faith of any kind.

JohnQC, the number I've usually seen is 10% assumed to be radicals, although that may or may not include the supporters as well as the violent. Presumably the same number of believers are at the other end -- wanting their faith to be a personal matter while fitting into the Western way of life... We've read reports of Saudi-supported radicals pushing the moderates out of mosques in this country, and today ryuge gave a link to yet another group working to remove jihad from Islam, so the good guys are starting to reveal themselves both within the Ummah and to us unbelievers as well.

#29  We're at war with those who want a worldwide islamic caliphate, worldwide imposition of sharia, etc. Maybe there are "only" a few million or tens of millions fanatical enough to die for the cause, but there are probably hundreds of millions of passive sympathizers.

What's the threshold beyond which this qualifies as a war on islam?

Tours, Constantinople, Vienna, Lepanto, 9/11. Same war, different battles, no matter what our braindead president decrees.

Iraq
Iraq to pay damages to Americans mistreated during Gulf War
[Jerusalem Post] Iraq has agreed to pay reparations to Americans who claim they were mistreated by Saddam Hussein's regime during the first Gulf War in 1990-91, Reuters reported on Saturday.

The total payout was expected to be some $400 million which Iraqis say will help lift UN sanctions against the country which remain from Hussein's regime.

The former US soldiers who are scheduled to receive payment in the deal were captured by Iraq during the war and used as human shields and tortured.

Iraq agrees to compensate US victims of Saddam
BAGHDAD - has agreed to financial compensation for Americans who say they were mistreated by executed dictator Saddam Hussein’s regime during the 1990-91 Gulf war, the US embassy said on Saturday.

“The agreement was signed on September 2,” US Embassy spokesman David Ranz said.

He could not confirm the size of the settlement, but the Christian Science Monitor reported that Baghdad had agreed to hand over 400 million dollars (314 million euros) in compensation.

The deal was signed between Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari and US Ambassador to Baghdad Jim Jeffrey.

Several US citizens were held by Saddam’s regime during the war over Kuwait and used as human shields to deter coalition attacks, with some claiming they were mistreated and tortured by Saddam’s forces.

“The agreement was signed between the two countries to resolve several legal claims inherited from the former regime for US citizens,” Iraq’s foreign ministry said in a statement on its website. It said the deal was part of efforts to “end the provisions of Chapter 7” of the UN Charter, which currently regards Iraq as a threat to international security and requires that sanctions be imposed upon it.

Since 1994, when the United Nations set up a reparations fund, Iraq has repaid 30.15 billion dollars (24 billion euros) to Kuwait, with a further 22.3 billion dollars (17.5 billion euros) in compensation still due. Baghdad is required to put five percent of its oil and gas revenues into the fund.

Those obligations remain crippling to a country where infrastructure and the economy are in dire need of rebuilding after having been hammered by years of violence and sanctions.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran ready to release American hiker accused of spying
Iran has announced that it is now ready to release an American woman accused of spying.

Yesterday Iranian authorities had said that they would release Sarah Shourd, but then suddenly cancelled the plan. There seems to have been a dispute between the judiciary and the presidency in that case. Today, a senior prosecutor says Iran is ready to release her on $500,000 bail.

Shourd was arrested with two other Americans when they strayed across the border from Iraq. Iran claims that the equipment they were carrying is only used for spying.

Update: Due to popular demand, the "Breaking News" image has been changed to the "Charlie Brown Football" image. ;-)

The best joke about that I've ever seen was Lucy holding the football, Charlie brown running, Lucy is kicked out of the picture and the football remains as Charlie Brown is still standing there one foot raised and wearing his trademark crooked Grin.

Yea Charlie, finally got even.

#5  The Iranians will release her, declaring it a "gesture of goodwill". Our fantabulous President will "welcome this positive development".

The Iranians will continue to develop nukes, and murder, jail, and torture its citizens. They've got 2 more "gestures of goodwill" in prison, waiting to be released at an opportune moment. What's the rush?

Ayat. Khatami urges arrest, severe punishment of apostate pastor

Khatami was quoted by the seminary Rasa News Agency as saying that Muslims should not easily forgive the "painful" tragedy.

He said the blind-hearted pastor's move in nature targets Islam and Muslims.

He added that the extremist Christian pastor has in a small church, which has only about 100 followers,

claimed that a number of people would gather on the 9/11 incident anniversary to burn copies of Holy Quran.

Radical Florida pastor Terry Jones' call for burning the religious book of Muslims- the holy Quran- has sparked worldwide protests and opposition.

Muslims at large and many international organizations and circles have condemned the pastor's outrageous plan.

As for Jones, he's just an idiot. Don't burn the quran, burn a bunch of idiotic FOLLOWERS of the quran. They're the dangerous ones. Stupid people with weapons and no rational control are a danger to the world and everyone in it. Put an end to 'em once and for all.

Syria's separation from Iran, Hizbollah, Hamas impossible - Politician
IRNA -- Politician and former Finance Minister of Lebanon George Karam says it would be wishful thinking to suppose Syria can be separated from Iran, Hizbollah and the Hamas movement.

Karam told Lebanese Sawt El Mada radio station on Saturday that major Western think-tanks still believe that separation of Syria from Iran or of Damascus from Hizbollah and Hamas Movement is possible.

He said Westerners do not know that Syria's power source is tied with the country's coalition with Iran, Hizbollah and Hamas.

Hizbullah Website to be Sued for Threatening Sami Gemayel with Crucifixion
[An Nahar] The attorney of Kataeb official Sami Gemayel said he will take legal action against a Hizbullah website for threatening the young MP with crucifixion, the Phalange Party said on its website.

"Gemayel has the right to his own political opinions under the Constitution," the website said, quoting Gemayel's lawyer Mark Habka as telling MTV.

Habka said he will file a suit against the Hizbullah website, called the Islamic Resistance Forum, which described Gemayel as an Israeli spy and called for his "crucifixion on a pole in the Pride and Dignity Square."

Iranian diplomat resigns in Finland
PARIS - A senior diplomat at the Iranian embassy in Finland said on Saturday he had resigned to join the political opposition movement against President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Hossein Alizadeh, who said he was second in command at Iran’s embassy in Helsinki, became the second Iranian diplomat in Europe to join the opposition movement this year following the disputed presidential election in 2009.

“I have resigned definitively in protest — I am no longer an Iranian diplomat,” Alizadeh said by telephone from Finland.

Alizadeh’s resignation was announced on Friday by the Green Wave, founded by Paris-based Iranian exile Amir Hossein Jahanchahi.

It was not immediately possible to reach the embassy for comment. The Finnish Foreign Ministry said it had no information on Alizadeh’s departure.

His move followed the resignation in January of Mohammed Reza Heydari, an Iranian consular official in Norway, who claimed political asylum and has since joined the Green Wave opposition movement in exile.

Terror Networks
Former jihadi calls for al Qaida cease-fire
Another former jihadi publically changes his mind. It seems to be the in thing to do. despite literally putting their necks on the line.
Noman Benotman, a former leader of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, who also fought beside bin Laden in Afghanistan and Sudan, published an open letter calling on bin Laden to end al Qaidas "armed struggle." In the letter, Benotman asked bin Laden to break off his jihad with a unilateral six-month cease-fire in order to help the terrorist organization reconsider their direction and understanding of Islam.

The letter was published in Arabic, English and Urdu by the London-based anti-Islamist think tank Quilliam Foundation. It will be circulated on jihadist Web forums and through the Arabic-language media.

"I recommend that al-Qaida announce a unilateral halt to its military operations for a period of six months to take a step back from fighting to study and consider the organizations vision, approach and strategy; to explore public opinion in Muslim communities around the world and seek the guidance of those Islamic scholars who have rejected his approach and concept of Jihad," Benotman said.

"Your actions have harmed millions of innocent Muslims and non- Muslims alike. How is this Islam or jihad? For how much longer will al- Qaida continue to bring shame on Islam, disrupt ordinary Muslims lives, and be the cause of global unrest? "What has the September 11 brought to the world except mass killings, occupations, destruction, hatred of Muslims, humiliation of Islam, and a tighter grip on the lives of ordinary Muslims by the authoritarian regimes that control Arab and Muslim states?"

The letter also reveals that before 9/11, bin Laden's plans to launch international attacks against the wishes of the Taliban were strongly opposed by individuals within al Qaida, including Abu Muhammad al-Zayyat, the head of al-Qaidas security committee.

Benotman said: "I have written this letter because I believe that it is time to start a debate within Muslim communities about terrorism, extremism and its effects. The news today of an American preacher planning to burn the Koran shows the damage that al-Qaida has done to the image of Islam and Muslims in the West.

"We also need to start a debate with bin Laden himself. He is not a prophet, he is just a human being. We need to begin a debate with him, to make him change his mind. American bombs have not made him change his mind, but maybe our words will. Al-Qaida has been criticized before, but this time the criticism is coming from someone who was there with them, in Afghanistan, in the fight against the Soviet Union and afterwards," he said.

"Also, I hope this letter will give hope to Muslim scholars and others who are already fighting against al Qaida. They need to know that they are not alone. We, as Muslims, have to say that enough is enough, it is time for the violence and killing to stop."
