-Lurid Crime Tales-
How Police Secretly Took Over a Global Phone Network for Organized Crime
[VICE/Motherboard] Police monitored a hundred million encrypted messages sent through Encrochat, a network used by career criminals to discuss drug deals, murders, and extortion plots.
Click on the link for the full article. It's worth it.
Something wasn't right. Starting earlier this year, police kept arresting associates of Mark, a UK-based alleged drug dealer. Mark took the security of his operation seriously, with the gang using code names to discuss business on custom, encrypted phones made by a company called Encrochat. For legal reasons, Motherboard is referring to Mark using a pseudonym.

Because the messages were encrypted on the devices themselves, police couldn't tap the group's phones or intercept messages as authorities normally would. On Encrochat, criminals spoke openly and negotiated their deals in granular detail, with price lists, names of customers, and explicit references to the large quantities of drugs they sold, according to documents obtained by Motherboard from sources in and around the criminal world.

Maybe it was a coincidence, but in the same time frame, police across the UK and Europe busted a wide range of criminals. In mid-June, authorities picked up an alleged member of another drug gang. A few days later, law enforcement seized millions of dollars worth of illegal drugs in Amsterdam. It was as if the police were detaining people from completely unrelated gangs simultaneously.

"[The police] all over it aren't they," the dealer wrote in one of the messages obtained by Motherboard. "My heads still baffled how they got on all my guys."

Unbeknownst to Mark, or the tens of thousands of other alleged Encrochat users, their messages weren't really secure. French authorities had penetrated the Encrochat network, leveraged that access to install a technical tool in what appears to be a mass hacking operation, and had been quietly reading the users' communications for months. Investigators then shared those messages with agencies around Europe.

Fifth Column
Cornell Improperly Sends Student Fees to BLM Activists
[Free Beacon] The student government at Cornell University improperly donated thousands of dollars in student fees to a coalition of Black Lives Matter activists and left-leaning organizations.

The Student Activities Funding Committee (SAFC), a student-led panel that allocates fees to campus groups, sent $10,000 to the Cornell Students for Black Lives fundraising initiative. The initiative, which is not a registered student organization, describes itself as a student organization "coalition." According to the funding guidelines in the student government charter, for a group to be "eligible to request funds or to spend allocated funds [it] must register with and be approved by the Campus Activities Office by when the budgets are due in each semester."

The contributions have drawn objections from other student groups. Conservative student leaders penned a letter to the editor at the Cornell Daily Sun expressing their concern that the spending violated the SAFC charter and funding guidelines.

"Nothing in SAFC's charter, bylaws or guidelines for funding authorizes the transfer of funds to non-registered groups," the letter reads. "No meeting on the record was held and no vote was recorded."

The Cornell Students for Black Lives initiative has already generated a financial windfall, raising more than $118,000 from a GoFundMe page in collaboration with the Cornell Black Alumni Association. Neither the initiative nor the alumni association returned a request for comment.

Neither the initiative nor the alumni association returned a request for comment.

Nor are any comments anticipated.

#3  Columbia needs to take these monies back, pay them back to students or allow students to opt out. Tacked on "Student Fees" have always been criticized for misuse.

#4  Higher "education" (and administration thereof) is a complete joke and a disgrace. NCAA Division I football, for example, and the money it rakes in and the restrictions placed on players is absurd.

Black fatalities rise in US cities after 'Defund the Police' movement surges
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] The Black Lives Matter movement to defund law enforcement across America has led to an alarming rise in violent mostly peaceful crime in major US cities and an increase in deaths in the black community.

According to a report by "The War on Cops" best-selling author Heather Mac Donald, police data and news reports in urban centers like reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel...
and New York reveal that violent mostly peaceful crime has surged following the George Floyd protests.

The Ferguson Effect—which Mac Donald coined in 2014 after the fatal shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri—describes the rise in crimes following the subsequent wave of civil unrest by street rioters. 2,000 additional black homicide victims then occurred in 2015 and 2016, the report cited.

Mac Donald calls today’s violent mostly peaceful-crime spike "Ferguson Effect 2.0" or the "Minneapolis Effect."

International-UN-NGOs
EU: Tehran has triggered Iran deal dispute mechanism
[Jpost] Tehran has triggered the "dispute mechanism" built into the 2015 Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
nuclear deal over compliance issues with La Belle France, Germany and the United Kingdom, the EU’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell reported on Friday.

He did not specify what issues led Iran to trigger the mechanism, which could be the first step toward dissolution of the deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

It was signed in 2015 between Iran and six world powers including: the United States, Russia, China, La Belle France, the United Kingdom and Germany.
The US withdrew from the deal in 2018, a move that has already significantly weakened the agreement under which Iran was supposed to curb its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. Iran has already breached part of the deal, particularly with regard to limits set on uranium enrichment.

Borrell said on Friday, "I have received today a letter from the Foreign Minister of Iran referring Iran’s concerns regarding implementation issues by La Belle France, Germany and the United Kingdom under the JCPOA to the Joint Commission for resolution through the Dispute Resolution Mechanism, as set out in paragraph 36 of the agreement."

Any party to the deal can refer non-compliance issues to a Joint Commission that involves representatives of all parties to the deal, plus the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
. There is then a 30-day two-step process to resolve the matter, with the potential to extend the time frame. If no resolution can be achieved, the deal can be dissolved.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Alarmed by rise in Gaza suicides, Palestinians blame Hamas, PA
[Jpost] Paleostinians took to social media to express outrage over the increase in suicide rates, with many holding Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, and the PA responsible for the harsh economic conditions in the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
.

Suicide rates are increasing in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, Paleostinian sources said on Saturday after the death of three Paleostinians in separate incidents.
"It's genetic for Paleos"
Several other cases of attempted suicide have been reported in the Gaza Strip in the past few weeks, the sources said.

Sleman Alajoury, a 23-year old university graduate, did away with himself by shooting himself in the head. In his last post on Facebook, Alajoury wrote: "This is not a futile attempt. This is an attempt at salvation. Complaining to none other than God is a humiliation."

A Paleostinian journalist in the Gaza Strip said that Alajoury had been previously arrested several times by Hamas security forces because of his political activities.

Sufyan Abu Zayda, a senior Fatah official in the Strip, said that Alajoury "could not stand the state of loss, oppression, poverty, unemployment, and the absence of hope for a decent life."

Mahmoud Meri, an unemployed university graduate, commented: "The rule of the [Hamas] military in Gaza Strip is driving young people to commit suicide. Hamas is responsible because it has closed all the doors to the young people."

Also Saturday, 21-year-old Ibrahim Yassin died of wounds he sustained when he set himself on fire at the Shati refugee camp in the Gaza Strip last week. In the past four years, the Strip has witnessed several cases of self-immolations.

According to the sources, the self-immolation was due to economic hardship, despair and unemployment.

On Friday, another man from Shati camp, 24-year-old Ayman al-Ghul, reportedly jumped to his death from the fifth story of a building. It was not immediately clear why al-Ghul did away with himself.

Hours later, a 30-year-old woman, whose identity was not revealed, attempted to take her own life by hanging in the town of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. She was rushed to a local hospital, where she was reported to be at death's door.

The sources said that the woman was married to the son of Nour Abdel Latif, a leader of an bad boy Islamic Salafi group. The woman tried to kill herself after learning that her husband had married a second wife, they claimed.

Last month, another two suicide cases were reported in the Strip — both by jumping from tall buildings.

The Paleostinian Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) recently called on Hamas to prevent the recurrence of suicide cases in its detention centers. The appeal came after the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Interior announced on May 29 that Muaz Ahmad Abu Amra, 19, did away with himself by hanging himself inside his prison cell. Abu Amra is said to be the third Paleostinian detainee to commit suicide in a Hamas detention facility in the past three years.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Human rights groups decry Turkish 'war crimes' in NE Syria
[Rudaw] More than a dozen organizations have signed a letter to European human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
officials detailing abuses committed by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's satrapy in Asia Minor...
and Ottoman Turkish- backed groups in northeast Syria.

"Since the start of Ottoman Turkish military operations on the areas of Kurdish origin in northern Syria, the region has turned into a hotspot full of all forms of human rights violations," reads the letter addressed to Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
and Robert Ragnar Spano, President of the European Court of Human Rights.

The 18 signatories have unanimously accused Ankara and its Syrian proxies of committing "war crimes, crimes against humanity, as well as crimes of ethnic cleansing and genocide."

Turkey and its Syrian proxies launched a military operation against the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in northern Syria in October 2019, seizing control of a stretch of northeast Syria, known to Kurds as Rojava, including Sari Kani (Ras al-Ain) Gire Spi (Tal Abyad). Hundreds of thousands of civilians were displaced in the offensive.

The military offensive, dubbed "Operation Peace Spring", followed the March 2018 invasion of Afrin, in Aleppo province, which came under control of Ottoman Turkish forces and their Syrian militia proxies following two months of intense fighting with the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG). Since then, human rights monitors have accused these groups of serious violations against locals.

"The opposition prevented the displaced civilians from returning to their homes, practiced theft, robbery, plunder, armed robbery, confiscated property and crops, burned them, burned forests, kidnapped civilians, and arbitrarily arrested them. Cemeteries and cultural symbols were destroyed," the letter added.

Violations have been "confirmed by reports of governmental organizations, and non-governmental organizations such as Amnesia Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the reports of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry for Syria."

According to numerous organizations, Ottoman Turkish-backed gangs in northwestern have committed repeated violations against the local population with impunity, including killing, kidnapping, and sexual violence.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) said in a late November report that pro-Ottoman Turkish Death Eaters prevented Syrian Kurds from returning to their homes. Instead, they "looted and unlawfully appropriated or occupied their property."

"Executing individuals, pillaging property, and blocking displaced people from returning to their homes is damning evidence of why Turkey's proposed 'safe zones' will not be safe," said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East director at HRW.

Prominent war monitor the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) confirmed to Rudaw English that it had signed the petition.

Other signatories include the Kurdish Committee for Human Rights, Association for the Defense of Human Rights in Austria, The Committee for the Defense of Human Rights in Syria (MAF) and Kurdish Civil Society Organization in Europe.

Turkey blocked the water supply from the Euphrates into Kurdish-held areas in northeast Syria last week, according to local officials.

Ilham Ahmed, president of the Executive Committee of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) said that Ankara "intentionally" withheld the water to induce "a real drought in Syria."
