Afghanistan
‘Unregistered SIM cards’ facilitates various crimes, terrorist activities
[KhaamaPress] Telecom Regulatory Authority of Afghanistan has announced that telecommunication companies have been fined for selling unregistered SIM cards, and 70% of these SIM cards were blocked.

In an interview with the BBC Persian, Noor Saeed Shinwari, a front man for the ATRA office said that all telecommunications companies in the country were warned, that all the active and existing SIM cards must be registered by the end of 1400 (Solar Hijri Calendar).

According to Shinwari, the government took this step to ensure security, because many terrorist activities, blasts, and various other crimes are being carried out using unregistered mobile SIM cards.

Out of 34 million SIM cards sold in the market, 22 million of them are active.

Previously, Kabul police warned all of the involved bodies in telecommunications, not to sell unregistered SIM cards, as MoI recognizes many of the organized crimes carried by unregistered cellphone numbers.

Afghan First Vice President, Amrullah Saleh indicated that security agencies in the country have gathered thousands of unregistered SIM cards.

Unregistered wireless telecommunication services in the country had facilitated the insurgency or terrorist attacks, IED blasts, different criminal activities, and supported many organized crimes.

200 Afghans Sent Back from Turkey Daily: MoRR
Interesting
[ToloNews] The Afghan Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation on Tuesday said that up to 200 Afghan refugees are being sent back to Afghanistan from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
on daily basis.

Noor Rahman Akhlaqi, minister of Refugee and Repatriation said that the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
is the main source of displacement of the people and that tens of thousands of Afghans have left the country over the past 20 years because of the Taliban’s continued war.

"The more the scale of violence is increased, the scale of internal displacement is also increased, this directly raises the level of migration—but we never manage to get an exact figure about it—because these migrations are not regular migrations," said Akhlaqi.

According to the Afghan government, there are about 6.6 million Afghan refugees living in various countries of the world today.

Of that figure, 200,000 Afghans live in Turkey, 474,000 in the US,
...one imagines they are clustered in certain cities/communities/areas of the country. Does anyone know where they are?
709,000 in European countries.

Most of the refugees, however, live in Pakistain and Iran. However,

IMPACT OF WAR:
Ramesh Rajasingham, the UN's acting Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, last week said that at least four Afghans out of ten suffer from hunger each day.

In a virtual meeting with representatives of various countries and international organizations, the UN official described the situation in Afghanistan as "concerning" and said that the war and the COVID-19 pandemic have caused half of the population to be in need of humanitarian assistance.

"Forty years of war and displacement, mixed with climate shocks and now COVID-19, have left almost half of Afghanistan’s population needing emergency aid," said Rajasingham, who moderated the briefing.

According to UN statistics, since 2012, over five million Afghans have been displaced from their areas because of war and violence, and the majority of those displaced are still living in tents.
Those helpful charity people Crazy Eddies in England could donate their refurbished tents to these good people who are in dreadful need, instead of the illegal migrants in Calais planning to illegally invade England.
The UN deputy humanitarian chief said that the number of people in need has doubled from 9.4 million at the start of 2020 to 18.4 million in 2021 — of a population of 40.4 million. Four in 10 people are now going hungry, which means that almost 17 million people are in crisis or emergency levels of food insecurity through March 2021. And almost half of all children will be acutely malnourished this year.

Abdullah Slams Taliban for Avoiding Negotiations
[ToloNews] Abdullah Abdullah
...the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against both Karzai and Ghani. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun. He also held the meaningless salaried sop position as CEO of Afghanistan, while Ghani was president...
, head of the High Council for National Reconciliation, on Tuesday criticized the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
for their distance from the negotiating table, saying that their absence has stalled the talks for over three weeks.

Abdullah, who addressed a gathering introducing a media commission at the council, said the Taliban’s absence from the negotiation table has affected the hopes for peace in the country.

The second round of the peace negotiations between the negotiating teams of the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban resumed on January 6, and three meetings at the working group level were held to discuss the agenda of the talks. However,
the man who has no enemies isn't anybody and has never done anything...
no meeting has been held between both sides for the last 23 days.

Countries involved in the peace should encourage the Taliban to return to the table of negotiations, Abdullah said.

The Taliban has been recently busy on regional trips. Their delegations have visited Iran, Russia and Turkmenistan
Why Turkmenistan?
over the last few days, seeking the regional countries’ support for the implementation of the February 2020 agreement in Doha,
What has the region to do with it? This is an internal Afghan matter.
document that is being reviewed by the Biden administration, as US officials put it.

Abdullah said every commission in the council will ensure participation from "all layers of society" in the grinding of the peace processor, reiterating that reconciliation efforts need to be inclusive.

Referring to recent remarks on an interim government as part of the grinding of the peace processor, Abdullah said a "transitional government or arrangement" is not the goal; instead, the goal is to enable the public to decide on their future through voting.

Abdullah added that no past experience has shown that an interim setup has resulted in peace in any country and that peace requires inclusivity.

He reiterated that even if there might be talks on an interim government, it should be discussed at the negotiations table.

The remarks come as the level of violence in the country has remained high and the Taliban has been under criticism for "keeping the violence" high as some senior US and Afghan officials put it.

The commander of the United States Central Command, Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, says the level of violence in Afghanistan remains too high and that the US is reviewing the Taliban actions as well as the peace agreement to find a way forward in the near future, but he stressed that there has to be a conditions-based approach when it comes to the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.

Speaking in an online conversation hosted by the Middle East Institute, McKenzie said: "The Taliban continue to resort to extreme violence and assassinations across the country and frequent attacks on the Afghan forces. While they have mostly avoided attacks on US and coalition units, the level of violence is just simply too high and so that is an action that we look at."

Strip "indefinitely," an Egyptian security source says, as it hosts inter-Paleostinian reconciliation talks.

"This isn’t a routine or normal opening. This is the first time in years that the Rafah border crossing is opening indefinitely," the source tells AFP.

"It used to open only three or four days at a time," he notes.

Rafah is the only passage to the outside world for Gaza — a densely populated enclave of around two million Paleostinians, half of whom live below the poverty line — that is not controlled by Israel.

Arabia
Iranian backed Yemeni force threaten Riyadh with more drone attacks
[SouthFront] On February 8th, a mysterious group published a threat showing missiles attacking Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital.

It is unclear from which group it originates, but it is likely that it is from the Righteous Promise Brigades [Alwiyat Al Wa’ad Al Haq].

It is the group responsible for the recent missile attack on Riyadh, in which missiles were intercepted in the skies above the city.

The group is reportedly Iranian-backed, and it is from Iraq.

After the attack on Riyadh, it also threatened the UAE.

On January 27, the mysterious armed group released a poster showing a drone attacking Burj Khalifa in the Emirate of Dubai. Rising at 829.8 meters, Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest structure and building.

In its first statement, the RPB threatened to launch an attack on the UAE, namely on Dubai. The new poster reinforces this threat.

Britain
UK lowers terror alert from ‘severe’ to ‘substantial’
[IsraelTimes] Britannia’s official terrorism threat level has been lowered from "severe" to "substantial" because the tempo of attacks in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
has lessened.

The UK government says that the Joint Terrorism Analysis Center had lowered the level to the middle rung of its five-point scale, meaning an attack in Britannia is likely. In November, the threat level was raised to severe, meaning an attack is highly likely, after deadly attacks in Austria and La Belle France.

"The decision to lower the threat level from severe to substantial is due to the significant reduction in the momentum of attacks in Europe since those seen between September and November 2020," Home Secretary Priti Patel says.

She says that despite the lowered level, "terrorism remains one of the most direct and immediate risks to our national security."

The center, which was established in 2003, sets the threat level based on intelligence about international terrorism at home and overseas.

The UK level has been at severe most of the time since 2014, briefly rising to "critical" amid violent mostly peaceful attacks in 2017.

Palestinian factions agree on election mechanisms
"However it works we should all get boodle, but you get less" BANG BANG"
[Jpost] After two days of talks in Cairo, several Palestinian factions, including Fatah and Hamas, announced on Tuesday evening that they reached agreement on several issues related to the upcoming general elections.

The factions, however, did not reach agreement on ending the Fatah-Hamas rift.

Instead, the factions said that they decided to form a committee that would "address the repercussions of the division [between the West Bank and Gaza Strip in all human, social and legal aspects."

The committee will submit its report to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, who will refer it to the new government and parliament for implementation after the elections.

The parliamentary election is scheduled to take place on May 22, while the presidential election will take place on July 31. The vote for the Palestinian National Council (the PLO's legislative body) will take place at the end of August.

Khalil al-Hayya, a senior Hamas official, said that the factions agreed on the mechanisms for holding the elections. The factions also agreed on a "political base" for holding the elections, he said, without elaborating.

The factions said in a statement that they agreed to abide by the dates set for the parliamentary, presidential and Palestinian National Council elections, as announced by Abbas last month.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran: Military member was involved in murder of nuke scientist blamed on Israel
Not magically scientific Israeli assassins with an entire unit of Israeli distraction dancing girls? Truly, I am shocked.
[IsraelTimes] Iranian intelligence minister says ’first preparations’ in killing of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh were carried out by member of armed services.

A member of the armed forces is suspected of involvement in last November’s liquidation near Tehran of Iran’s top nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the country’s intelligence minister said Monday.

"The person who carried out the first preparations for the liquidation was a member of the armed forces," Mahmoud Alavi said in an interview with state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
, without elaborating.

He said it was not possible for the intelligence ministry "to keep watch over the armed forces."

Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was traveling on a highway outside the capital accompanied by a security detail on November 27 when he came under machinegun fire.

Israel and the US say Fakhrizadeh headed Iran’s rogue nuclear weapons program. According to Iranian authorities, Fakhrizadeh was a deputy defense minister and carried out work on "nuclear defense."
But General Fakhrizadeh, PhD (he was multi-talented, clearly) intended it to be a very actively nuclear defense. Kinetic, even.
Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards said a satellite-controlled gun with "artificial intelligence" was used in the attack, which Tehran blamed on Israel.

State TV’s English-language Press TV reported a weapon recovered from the scene of the attack bore "the logo and specifications of the Israeli military industry." There were no images published of the alleged weapon in the report, which was attributed to "informed sources."
Understandable, if it was an entirely native Iranian kill team, which probably used Iranian military weapons.
Israel did not react to the accusation. Unveiling a trove of material brought out of Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. by the Mossad on the regime’s nuclear weapons program, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in 2018 that Fakhrizadeh was overseeing Iran’s bid for the bomb.

The killing came after months of mysterious explosions in Iran including a blast and fire that crippled an advanced centrifuge assembly plant at the Natanz uranium enrichment facility, which is widely believed to have been an act of sabotage allegedly carried out by Israel.
Not there’s any proof of that, or the Iranians would have shouted it to the skies.
Israel has long been suspected of carrying out a series of assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists nearly a decade ago in a bid to curtail Iran’s nuclear program.

After the liquidation of Fakhrizadeh, Iranian politicians approved a bill requiring Iran to resume uranium enrichment to 20 percent purity, as it had been doing before the nuclear deal, and to stock 120 kilograms (265 pounds) of uranium each year. The legislation had already been in the pipeline, but it was advanced after Fakhrizadeh was killed.

Last month, Tehran announced it was beginning to enrich uranium up to 20 percent — far beyond the 3.5% permitted under the nuclear deal, and a relatively small technical step away from the 90% needed for a nuclear weapon. Iran also said it was beginning research into uranium metal, a material that technically has civilian uses, but is seen as another likely step toward a nuclear bomb.
One shudders to think how advanced Iran’s program would have been by now, had not all those scientists died and all those locations blown up and/or burnt down.
On Saturday, the Wall Street Journal reported that United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
nuclear inspectors found traces of radioactive material at Iranian nuclear sites that could indicate work on nuclear weapons.

US President Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
...Candidate for president in 2020. We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created ... by the — you know — you know, the thing...
said Sunday that his administration will not agree to lift sanctions on Iran before it halts its uranium enrichment program, adding that the Islamic Theocratic Republic will have to first resume compliance with the nuclear deal.

Biden’s comments drew a line in the sand in the US’s standoff with Iran, whose Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...
said that Washington must lift all sanctions before Tehran reverses any nuclear production steps.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said last week that Iran was currently months away from being able to produce enough material to build a nuclear weapon. And, he said, that timeframe could be reduced to "a matter of weeks" if Tehran further violates restrictions it agreed to under the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.

IDF intelligence: Iran at least two years from nuclear bomb
So many different estimates. JPost's isn't any more accurate than when the bombs start dropping
[JPost] Officer says Tehran sees 2015 nuclear deal as only exit point from its severe situation.

Iran is at an unprecedented "low point" due to actions carried out by Israel and the US, but it has not stopped investing in its nuclear project, OC IDF Intelligence Maj.-Gen. Tamir Heiman said this week.

"In its current situation, Iran considers a nuclear deal the only way out of the crisis, and hence it is trying to go back to the deal it signed in 2015," he said at a press briefing.

According to IDF estimates, it would take Iran about two years to build a bomb once it decides to do so.

Israel reportedly has launched a multitude of operations against Iran to undermine its nuclear program. An explosion at the Natanz uranium enrichment facility and the assassination in November of Iran’s top nuclear scientist, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, were attributed to Israel in recent reports.

Israel has also worked closely with the US to impose crippling sanctions on Iran’s economy.

According to Heiman, Iran starts 2021 "battered, but on its feet," and it hopes the new US administration will change its attitude toward it.

However, the first signs of this attitude are not promising for Tehran. On Sunday, President Joe Biden said the US would not lift sanctions on Iran unless it first stops enrichment of uranium.

The White House later clarified that Biden’s "position remains exactly what it has been, which is that if Iran comes into full compliance with its obligations under the JCPOA, the United States would do the same and then use that as a platform to build a larger and stronger agreement that also addresses other areas of concern."

Traditionally, there are two main alliances in the region: the Shi’ites, led by Iran, which includes Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen; and the radical Sunnis, which includes Turkey, Qatar, Libya and other countries that left this pact over the years.

In 2020, a new regional alliance was formed that includes Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, Morocco, Jordan and Egypt. This alliance of moderate Sunni countries and Israel is closer to the US and Europe, and it raises concerns and fears in Iran regarding the potential of more sanctions and pressure in the future.

In Iran, there are two main camps with a different attitude toward a nuclear agreement.

The so-called moderate camp, which includes President Hassan Rouhani, is willing to make concessions and prefers to reach a new agreement with the US as soon as possible to ease the economic crisis.

The conservative camp believes patience will reward the Islamic Republic in the long term. It opposes concessions and maintains that only if the US backtracks first will Iran change its attitude.
