A popular star in Hollywood for two decades through 1936, Marie Prevost began as a Mack Sennett "Bathing Beauty" in 1917, later starring in dozens of light comedies. But not long into the sound era, she encountered problems with her burgeoning weight, to the jeopardy of her career. Her self-remedy resulted ultimately in her starving to death.
Marie Prevost was born Mary Bickford Dunn in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, on November 8, 1898. She broke into films when she was 18 years old in Unto Those Who Sin (1916). Finding work in films was difficult in the early days, just as it is today. Marie found herself doing odd jobs until 1917, when she made another film, Secrets of a Beauty Parlor (1917). After filming was completed, Marie found herself unemployed again and went back to scraping around for a living. She kept going to casting calls, but it wasn't until 1919 when she landed a role in Uncle Tom Without a Cabin (1919). Finally, in 1921, movie moguls discovered her talent and began casting her in a number of roles. She appeared in four films that year and an additional six in 1922. Marie seemed to be on a roll. She stayed busy through the balance of the 1920s in a number of films, mostly comedies. As a matter of fact, she would continue making films until 1933, when her appeal began to fade. She made no films in 1934 and precious few after that. With the advent of sound, her thick New England accent didn't lend itself well to the "demon microphone", despite her beauty. Her depression about her career--or lack of it--drove her to alcohol, and she died on January 23, 1937, in Hollywood, of a combination of alcoholism and malnutrition, virtually broke and living in a dilapidated apartment. She never saw the release, in 1938, of her final film appearance: Ten Laps to Go (1936). She was 38 years old.
Her death was not discovered until after neighbors had complained about incessant barking by her little dachshund. The fairy tale that Marie was eaten by her dog comes from a song made up about the incident. And from a story in the book "Hollywood Babylon". Miss Prevost was trying desperately to lose weight. She had virtually stopped eating and had replaced food with alcohol. Reports at the time felt she had died on January 21, 1937 but was not found until January 23. Her neighbors had complained her little dachshund had been barking and sounded in distress. When police went in, they found Marie dead and her dog at her side. She had some scratches on her hand where her dog had been pulling at her, probably to try to get her attention. So, reports about the dog trying to chew on her body were ridiculously overblown.

[FoxNews] A TikTok user posted a video on Wednesday evening offering $70,000 to drive the truck from McAllen to Houston, according to Texas DPS.
Hidalgo County sheriff's deputies located 84 migrants on Thursday afternoon as they unloaded from a tractor trailer just 12 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border in south Texas.
A concerned citizen originally reported the tractor trailer near a residence about 15 miles east of downtown McAllen.
Sheriff's deputies and Border Patrol responded to the scene and took the migrants into custody. Pictures released by Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra show dozens of migrants on the ground in what appears to be a residential area.
A TikTok video was posted late on Wednesday evening, seeking "someone who can drive an 18 wheeler right now" from McAllen to Houston for $70,000.
The Texas Department of Public Safety verified that the video is authentic and related to the migrants who were located in Hidalgo County on Thursday.
Texas DPS spokesman Christopher Olivarez said that law enforcement has seen an uptick in recruitment videos on social media sites since last year.
"That is why we are experiencing an increase in human smuggling events along the border," Olivarez told Fox News Digital. "Many individuals from larger metropolitan areas such as Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and even out of state are being recruited as drivers through social media platforms to smuggle illegal immigrants."
Cartels have turned to social media in other states as well. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., introduced a bill last week that would crack down on cartels' use of various platforms to recruit people for human trafficking operations.
"Cartels recruit teenage Arizonans to support smuggling and trafficking near our border – luring them into dangerous and illegal activities for easy cash that puts their lives and others at serious risk," Sinema said in a statement.
Customs and Border Protection did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the conditions of the migrants or any arrests that were made on Thursday.
More than 308,000 migrants have been apprehended crossing Texas' border with Mexico since the state launched Operation Lone Star last year, according to Gov. Greg Abbott.
The operation has also led to more than 20,200 criminal arrests and the seizure of over 336 million lethal doses of fentanyl.

It currently a house for 806 families, including 2.800 individuals of Arabs and foreigners, mostly women and kiddies of ISIS family members who hail from 62 countries, according to previous reports published by North Press.

Greek coastguard announced on Thursday that 17 people died in rooms of a ship sank off the Greek island of Lesbos in the middle of Aegean Sea.
The Greek coastguard, citing survivors, said the drowned boat was carrying about 40 individuals.
The Greek coastguard indicated five people were rescued, but the nationalities of the survivals were not identified. Mostly, they are residents of Middle East countries.
It added that 17 bodies had been found, and 20 persons were still unaccounted for.
The boat drowned east of the island of Lesbos close the Ottoman Turkish coast.
A Greek coastguard vessel and an air force helicopter rushed to conduct a search and rescue, but strong winds hampered the effort.
Accidents of drowning migrants colonists occur frequently in the Aegean Seaand Mediterranean Sea, including large numbers of Syrians.

They are working to cover the southern and eastern countryside of Idlib.
The census aims at collecting detailed and accurate information about the foreign migrants colonists, including male and female, within a timetable until the end of 2022, the source added.
The source went further that the data included the name, personal data, family data, and personal photos, in addition to taking electronic accounts and fingerprints of two hands.
Another exclusive source of the Statistics Office said, so far, the number which has been counted in Idlib has reached no more than 170 migrants colonists.
