20 U.N. Peacekeepers Wounded in Mali Attack
[AnNahar] Around 20 United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
peacekeepers were maimed in an attack on their base in central Mali on Wednesday, a U.N. spokesperson said, offering a provisional toll.

Militants attacked a temporary base near Kerena, a village in the war-torn center of the Sahel state, at around 7 am.

Olivier Salgado, the front man for the U.N.'s 13,000-strong MINUSMA mission in Mali, said the position was "targeted by direct and indirect fire."

Mali has been struggling to contain a jihadist insurgency which first emerged in in the north of the country 2012, and has since spread to the center of the country and to neighboring Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
and Niger.

Thousands of soldiers and civilians have been killed and hundreds of thousands of more have had to flee their homes.

Central Mali is one of the epicenters of the regional conflict, where attacks on soldiers and ethnic killings are common.
There are two groups a-jihading in Mali: Ansarul Islam, according to the latest source I’ve found, is an apparently unaffiliated Fulani group which emerged near the Mali border of Burkina Faso in December 2016, and JNIM (Group to Support Islam and Moslems), the unification of Ansar Dine, the Macina Liberation Front, and Al-Mourabitoun, which has sworn allegiance to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. So one of them must have done it.

Arabia
Houthi drones attack Soddy airfield
On February 10, Abha International Airport in the southern Saudi province of ‘Asir was attacked by the Houthis (Ansar Allah).

In a statement, Brig. Gen. Yahya Sari, a spokesman for the Houthis, said two Samad-3 and two Qasef-2K suicide drones were launched from Yemen at “military aircraft” parked at Abha International Airport.

The Samad-3, which has a range of more than 1,500 km, was presented by the Houthis in 2019. On the other hand, the Qasef, a version of the Iranian Ababil-2, has been in service since late 2016. Both drones are usually armed with high-explosive fragmentation, HE-FRAG, warheads.

Brig. Gen. Sari said Saudi Arabia was repeatedly warned against using civilian airports for military purposes. However, the Kingdom opted to continue doing so.

Turkish warbirds pound Kurd Kommies in Akre district
SULAIMANI — The Turkish military launched a new phase of operations against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) early on Wednesday (February 10) by bombing Pers Mountain in Duhok’s Akre district and deploying airborne ground troops in the area using helicopters.

A source within the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) speaking on condition of anonymity told NRT that fighting was ongoing as late morning. The HPG is the armed wing of the PKK.

“Turkey continued its attacks using Cobra helicopters and disembarked soldiers from Skirosky helicopters,” the source said.

The Turkish military later announced on Twitter that it had launched “Operation Claw-Eagle 2” with operations against targets on Gara Mountain, of which Pers is a part, as a follow on to its operations in 2020.

IDF demolishes home of terrorist who murdered Esther Horgen
[Jerusalem Post] IDF and Border Police forces demolished two floors from the home of the terrorist who murdered the late Esther Horgen on Wednesday night, Walla reported.

The building is in the Tora in the Menashe Regional Brigade area. Palestinian Mohammad Maroh Kabaha was indicted for Horgen's murder last week. He killed her while she was on a run in Reihan forest.

The IDF Prosecution has said that Kabaha confessed to the crime, reenacted it, and even helped them locate Horgen’s cell phone that he had tossed aside.
At a hearing regarding Kabaha’s detention, the defense did not try to seek bail.

The High Court of Justice approved the IDF’s request on Wednesday to demolish both the second and third floors of the building where Kabaha and his family lived.

Israeli girl, 14, lightly injured as car attacked in West Bank
[IsraelTimes] Paint bottles thrown at vehicle near Tekoa settlement; teen suffers facial injuries, taken to Jerusalem hospital for treatment.

A 14-year-old girl was injured in the face by flying glass as bottles of paint were thrown at the car in which she was traveling in the West Bank on Tuesday, the Magen David Adom emergency service said.

The incident happened near the Tekoa settlement south of Jerusalem, according to MDA, whose paramedics attended to the girl’s injuries at the scene.

She was then taken to Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem for further treatment.

Tekoa is part of the Gush Etzion bloc of Israeli settlements in the southern West Bank.

At the end of last month, a Paleostinian was rubbed out at the Gush Etzion Junction as he tried to stab an Israeli soldier with a makeshift spear.

The West Bank in general has seen a recent escalation in violence in recent weeks.

Much of the escalation has come in the wake of the murder of Esther Horgen, 52, a mother of six, after she went out for a run in the Reihan forest near her home in the settlement of Tal Menashe. A Paleostinian man has been indicted in the murder.

The West Bank has also seen a notable increase in ultranationalist Israeli violence against Paleostinians after 16-year-old Ahuvia Sandak was killed in a police chase after allegedly hurling stones at Paleostinians in late December.
