[Breitbart] U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working an international border crossing in Southern Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, seized more than $1 million in unreported currency headed to Mexico.
”Nothing to declare, officer.”
CBP officers assigned to the San Ysidro Port of Entry on December 9 observed an SUV approaching for inspection prior to leaving the United States to Mexico. During an initial inspection in the outbound lanes, a CBP K-9 alerted to an odor it is trained to detect near the driver’s side quarter panel, according to information obtained from CBP officials.

The officers referred the driver to a secondary inspection area. Following the alert from the K-9, officers conducted a physical search of the vehicle and found multiple bundles of unreported U.S. currency. The officers found the cash in the quarter panels, under the third-row seat, and the cargo area of the vehicle, officials reported.

CBP officers documented the unreported currency and reported the seizure of more than $1 million USD.

Over 300 students still missing after Nigeria school attack, Abubakar Shekau claims it
[Al Ahram] Anxiety is growing among the parents of hundreds of students who remain missing three days after button men attacked their school in Katsina State in northern Nigeria.

More than 300 students are missing after the attack on the Government Science Secondary School, a boys' school in Kankara, on Friday night, Katsina governor Aminu Masari said.

A joint rescue operation was launched Saturday by Nigeria's police, air force and army, according to the government. The military was in shootouts with the bandidos after locating their hideout in the Zango/Paula forest Saturday, according to a statement by President Muhammadu Buhari.

When the school was attacked, police engaged in a shootout with the button men, allowing many students to scale the school's fence and run for safety, according to Katsina State police front man Gambo Isah.

The school has more than 600 students.

Salish Masi said that two of his sons are among those still missing.

``I am worried that after three days I have no news about my children,'' he told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named Monday. ``I have been waiting for the authorities to tell me what happened but till now, they have said nothing.''

Another parent, Mustapha Gargaba, said he is very anxious because he does not know what has happened to his son.

No group or persons have grabbed credit for the abduction of the students, the Katsina state governor said after meeting with security officials.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres
...Portuguese politician and diplomat, ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations. Previously, he was the UN High Commissioner for Refugees between 2005 and 2015. He was the Prime Minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002 and was the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party from 1992 to 2002. He served as President of the Socialist International from 1999 to 2005. In both a 2012 and 2014 poll, the Portuguese public ranked him as the best Prime Minister of the previous 30 years...
Monday condemned the attack on the school and called ``for the immediate and unconditional release of the kidnapped children and for their safe return to their families,'' in a statement issued in New York.

Several gangs operate in northwestern Nigeria where Katsina state is located.

More than 1,100 people have been killed by bandidos in an escalation of attacks during the first half of the year, according to Amnesia Amnesty International, which said the government was failing to bring the attackers to justice.

While several groups of bandidos are active there, the groups known to kidnap for ransom have links to the jihadist group Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
and its breakaway faction, the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
's West Africa Province, known as ISWAP.

Both Boko Haram and ISWAP have in the past carried out mass abduction of students. The most serious school attack took place in April 2014, when more than 270 schoolgirls were kidnapped from their dormitory at the Government Secondary School in Chibok in northeastern Borno State. About 100 of the girls are still missing.

The recent incident at the Government Science Secondary School in Kankara, is the worst attack on a boys school since February 2014, when 59 boys were killed during a Boko Haram attack on the Federal Government College Buni Yadi in Yobe State.

Boys escaped after gunmen abducted their friends at Nigeria school
Another perspective.
[Jpost] The president's office said on Monday the government was in contact with the gunnies and was negotiating the release of the boys after security agencies had located them.

Osama Aminu was one of the lucky ones. He managed to escape when button men kidnapped more than 300 pupils from his school in northwestern Nigeria.

"When I decided to run they brought a knife to slaughter me but I bravely ran away quickly," he said, sitting on a mat and speaking softly as he described how he had been in bed at the all-boys school in Kankara when he heard gunshots on Friday night.

At first, he said, the boys thought the commotion was from soldiers trying to protect them, but the attackers, armed with AK-47s, were already inside the building, threatening groups who tried to leave their dormitories at the Government Science secondary school in an attack that has outraged Nigerians.
"They said they would kill whoever is trying to escape then I began to run, climbing one rock to another through a forest," Aminu said.

Many details of the raid and its aftermath remain unknown.

Police said on Friday they exchanged fire with the attackers, allowing some students to run for safety. According to Katsina Governor Aminu Bello Masari on Sunday, 333 students remained missing.

The president's office said on Monday the government was in contact with the gunnies and was negotiating the release of the boys after security agencies had located them.

"We are making progress and the outlook is positive," Masari told news hounds on Monday, after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari, who was on a week-long visit to his home state.

The governor said the president was fully committed to the rescue of the schoolchildren, after he had been criticized in Nigerian newspapers for not visiting the school.

It is still not clear who the button men were and officials do not yet know the motive of the attack.

Attacks by armed gangs, widely known as bandidos, are common throughout northwestern Nigeria. The groups attack civilians, stealing or kidnapping them for ransom.

ANGER
Muhammad Abubakar, 15, was another pupil who got away, trekking through farmland and a forest in the dark. He said he was among 72 boys who had reached safety in the village of Kaikaibise where he ended up.

"The bandidos called us back. They told us not to run. We started to walk back to them, but as we did, we saw more people coming towards the dormitory," he told Rooters.

"So I and others ran again. We jumped over the fence and ran through a forest to the nearest village."

Abubakar, one of eight children, said he saw a number of boys being rounded up before they were marched out of the school, which has around 800 students. Seven of his friends are missing. As he was reunited with his mother, who sells firewood for a living, he said: "I never thought I would see my parents again."

Friday's raid evoked memories of the 2014 kidnap of more than 200 girls from a school in the northeastern town of Chibok by Islamist group Boko Haram. Since then, about half of those girls have been found or freed, dozens have been paraded in propaganda videos and an unknown number are believed to have died.

Despite the measures taken to find the boys and track down the assailants, there was growing anger at the precarious security situation in the country. On Monday, #BringBackOurBoys was trending on Twitter.

Late last month, Islamist faceless myrmidons killed scores of farmers in northeastern Borno, beheading some of them.

And in October the country was gripped by some of the worst civil unrest since its return to civilian rule in 1999, following weeks of largely peaceful protests against police brutality in which several demonstrators were rubbed out.

Boko Haram Claims Kidnapping of Hundreds of Nigerian Students
[AnNahar] Jihadist group Boko Haram on Tuesday claimed responsibility for the abduction of hundreds of school students in northwest Nigeria.

"I am Abubakar Shekau and our brothers are behind the kidnapping in Katsina," said the leader of the group behind the 2014 abduction of hundreds of schoolgirls in Chibok, in a voice message.

Second Crude Tanker Explodes Off Saudi Coast In 3 Weeks
[ZH] The Singapore-flagged BW Rhine, a chemical tanker hauling gasoline, suffered an explosion early Monday after being hit by "an external source," said Haifna, a tanker company under the BW Group that owns and operates the vessel.

BW Rhine was "hit from an external source whilst discharging at approximately 00:40 local time on 14 December 2020," AP News said, citing a statement from Haifna, "causing an explosion and subsequent fire onboard."

The incident occurred off Saudi Arabia's port city of Jeddah.

At the time of the incident, the vessel was carrying more than 60,000 metric tons of gasoline from an Aramco refinery at Yanbu.

Haifna said the explosion caused a fire on board the vessel. It was reported that all 22 sailors exited the ship without injury and hours later, firefighters extinguished the blaze.

"The Master immediately ceased all discharge operations and enacted emergency procedures onboard."

Hafnia said further "it is possible that some oil has escaped from the vessel, but this has not been confirmed and instrumentation currently indicates that oil levels on board are at the same level as before the incident."

Egypt condemns terrorist attack on Saudi oil tanker

[Al Ahram] Egypt has condemned an attack by an explosive-laden boat on a Saudi oil tanker on Monday, according to a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry.

The Egyptian statement underscored the country's "strong rejection" of any terror attacks that target the regional waters and vital facilities of the kingdom, saying that the attack represents "a threat to the Gulf country's stability and security as well as to the safety and freedom of navigation and international trade."

An unnamed official at Soddy Arabia

’s energy ministry said, in statements reported by the official Saudi Arabia agency SPA, that the attack targeted a ship anchored in the fuel terminal in Jeddah early this morning, resulting in a small fire.

Monday's incident is the latest in a number of attacks on Saudi facilities, including an attack in November on a ship at a petroleum products distribution station in north Jeddah, and an attack in September on a floating unloading platform at a petroleum products distribution station in Jizan.

Both attacks were carried out by Yemen

The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...

Egypt has repeatedly expressed its full support for the Saudi Arabian-led coalition against the Houthi rebels in Yemen, saying the Iran-backed movement’s practices further inflame the situation in Yemen.

Hackers target US Homeland Security, thousands of businesses
[PRESSTV] The US Department of Homeland Security and thousands of businesses have been targeted by a sweeping hacking campaign that officials suspect was directed by the Russian government.Emails sent by officials at DHS, which oversees border security and defense against hacking, were monitored by the hackers as part of the sophisticated series of breaches, three people familiar with the matter told Rooters Monday.

Technology company SolarWinds, which was the key steppingstone used by the hackers, said up to 18,000 of its customers had downloaded a compromised software update that allowed hackers to spy unnoticed on businesses and agencies for almost nine months.

The United States issued an emergency warning on Sunday, ordering government users to disconnect SolarWinds software which it said had been compromised by "malicious actors."

That warning came after Rooters reported suspected Russian hackers had used hijacked SolarWinds software updates to break into multiple American government agencies, including the Treasury and Commerce departments. Moscow denied having any connection to the attacks.

One of the people familiar with the hacking campaign said the critical network that the Department of Homeland Security’s cybersecurity division uses to protect infrastructure, including the recent elections, had not been breached.

DHS is a massive bureaucracy among other things responsible for securing the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The cybersecurity unit there, known as CISA, has been upended by President Trump’s firing of head Chris Krebs after Krebs called the presidential election the most secure in American history. His deputy and the elections chief have also left.

The Pentagon said on Monday it is aware of the reports but was not able to comment on "specific mitigation measures or specify systems that may have been impacted."

The National Security Agency and Joint Force Headquarters Commanders issued guidance and directives to protect DoD networks and IT systems.

SolarWinds said in a regulatory disclosure it believed the attack was the work of an "outside nation state" that inserted malicious code into updates of its Orion network management software issued between March and June this year.

The attacks, first revealed Sunday, earlier hit the US departments of Treasury and Commerce.

Europe
Germany investigates cross-border extremist network
[Al Ahram] Germany's top security official pledged Monday to get to the bottom of an alleged plot intended to arm far-right holy warriors in the country with weapons, ammunition and explosives procured in neighboring Austria. Austrian authorities on the weekend said that recent raids had led to the seizure of 70 automatic and semi-automatic firearms, explosives and more than 100,000 rounds of ammunition.

Five people have been arrested in Austria, including the prime suspect, identified as a 53-year-old Austrian with known links to organized crime and right-wing extremism, Vienna Sherlocks said.

German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said Berlin had been cooperating with Vienna since October on the case.

He called the discovery of "such a great quantity'' of weapons, munitions and explosives "alarming'' and pledged a full investigation into the case.

"This is particularly true for the right-extremist background of the suspect in Austria,'' he said in a written statement.

Two alleged accomplices were also arrested in the German states of Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany's Interior Ministry said.

Austrian authorities have said that a significant quantity of drugs was found in the raids and that Sherlocks believe that narcotics being smuggled from Germany were being used to finance the procurement of the weapons.

Last weekend, Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammer said the investigation had revealed ``a network that shows links between the area of right-wing extremism and organized crime.''

He said that some of those belonged to the "neo-Nazi
...adherents of a philosophy that was seen even at the time as pure evil, which makes them either consciously and purely evil, or attention-seeking ratbags. Pick one, or both....
scene that has sadly also been known in Austria for a while."

Austria's APA news agency reported that the weapons included submachine guns, assault rifles and handguns.

"The suspicion that the weapons and ammunition were intended for Germany requires a complete and comprehensive investigation,'' Germany's Interior Ministry said.

The Interior Ministry said no further details of the find or the arrests could be released so as not to jeopardize the ongoing investigation.

Portland's red house 'autonomous zone' dismantled after mayor apologizes
[NYPOST] The fenced-off, booby-trapped “autonomous zone” in Oregon has finally been dismantled after Portland’s mayor brokered a deal with protesters — and apologized to them.

The Twitter handle for those leading the protests at the “Red House on Mississippi” started calling for “comrades” to help “take these barricades down” Sunday night.

“Our work is not going unseen!” the protesters tweeted, hailing a deal between the city and the Kinneys, a black family whose eviction sparked the three-block barricade covered in Antifa and anti-cop graffiti.

“The mayor has promised the Kinney family that they will not raid Red House as long as the barricades are taken down by Monday night,” the group said.

The “autonomous zone” was set up on Tuesday though protests have been held at the site for the past three months.

Most of the barricades were gone by late Sunday, according to The Oregonian.

Mayor Ted Wheeler’s office confirmed that a deal had been struck, though it was not clear if the house was being sold back to the Kinneys, the family that was evicted after defaulting on a second mortgage taken out to pay a relative’s legal fees in a criminal case.
The house was purchased for $260,000 in 2018 by a Portland landlord at foreclosure, who intended to evict the family. The house was foreclosed after the family failed to pay the mortgage on the house. The family has described themselves as "sovereign citizens," an unorganized group of activists across Canada and the United States who subscribe to a pseudo-legal philosophy whereby they are only subject to British common law, but not statutory law. The sovereign citizens movement has been heavily associated with squatting.
Given that the Kinney family at the center of all the excitement are African-American, what odds that they are not self-radicalized, but members of the century-old Moorish Sovereign Citizens (also known as Indigenous Moors), that along with the Nation of Islam is a troublesome offshoot of the Moorish Science Temple cult has claimed that African-Americans (“Moors”) are the true original inhabitants of North America, and therefore exempt from American laws while being the true owners of all property within its borders. Also, they believe themselves to be Muslim, leaning heavily, like the Mormons, on long lost chapters of the Koran revealed to their founding prophet.
The family has since raised enough money to purchase the house themselves.

French Jihadist Caught Trying to Enter Turkey from Syria

The ministry said the individual is believed to be part of the Firqatul Ghuraba group of foreign jihadists in Syria and recruited by Omar Omsen.

Turkey Detains 11 Suspected of Spying for Iran
[AnNahar] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's satrapy in Asia Minor...
has detained 11 people suspected of spying and abducting an Iranian political dissident on behalf of Tehran, the Ottoman Turkish police said on Monday.

The announcement followed a rare public spat between Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. and top Iranian officials over Azerbaijan.

Agents from Turkey's MIT intelligence service arrested the Ottoman Turkish nationals following the disappearance in Istanbul of Iranian political dissident Habib Chaab, the police said.

The exiled Iranian opposition figure lived in Sweden and visited Turkey in October.

Iran's state media officially reported his arrest in November but provided no details about how he ended up in Iranian custody.

Tehran accuses Chaab of involvement in an Arab separatist group known as the ASMLA.

The Ottoman Turkish police said the suspects grabbed Chaab in Istanbul and smuggled him to the Iranian border region of Van before giving him up to Iranian officials.

The 11 Ottoman Turkish suspects are accused of crimes including kidnapping, spying and liquidations allegedly carried out for a major Iranian narco.

The announcement comes on the heels of a public spat between the two regional powers linked to Turkey's support for Azerbaijan in its victorious war with Armenia over the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Attending a victory parade in Baku, Erdogan recited a poem last Thursday that Iranian officials said supported separatism among Iran's large ethnic Azerbaijani minority.

Iranian authorities summoned Turkey's ambassador to Tehran to complain about Erdogan's "interventionist and unacceptable remarks".

Turkey replied by summoning Iran's ambassador to Ankara to protest the "baseless" claims.

Top Erdogan aide Fahrettin Altun also condemned Iran's "offensive language toward our president" in a tweet Saturday.

have close and longstanding political and trade relations but find themselves on opposite sides of the war in Syria and have other regional disputes.

The six-week war over Azerbaijan's disputed Nagorno-Karabakh enclave resulted in rockets and missiles hitting parts of northern Iran near the conflict zone.

Turkey supplied Azerbaijan with arms in the years preceding the conflict and backed it diplomatically during the war.

But Iran expressed repeated alarm during the fighting and sent Revolutionary Guards soldiers to the Azerbaijani border in October to keep the conflict from spilling over.

US sanctions NATO ally Turkey over Russian missile defense
[Al Ahram] The Trump administration on Monday imposed sanctions on its NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
ally The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
over its purchase of a Russian air defense system, in a striking move against a longtime partner that sets the stage for further confrontation between the two nations as President-elect Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
...Candidate for president in 2020. I'm not working for you. Don't be such a horse's ass....
prepares to take office.

The extraordinary step against a treaty ally comes at a delicate time in relations between Washington and Ankara, which have been at odds for years over Turkey's acquisition from Russia of the S-400 missile defense system, along with Ottoman Turkish actions in Syria, the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan and in the eastern Mediterranean.

The sanctions, which were required under US law dating to 2017 if the administration deemed there to be violations, add another element of uncertainty to the relationship as Trump winds down his term.

The move is the first time that law, known as CAATSA, has been used to penalize a US ally.

Prior to Monday, the US had kicked Turkey out of its F-35 stealth fighter development and training program over the S-400 purchase, but had taken no further steps despite persistent warnings from American officials who have long complained about that the system is incompatible with NATO equipment and a potential threat to allied security.

[THEBAGHDADPOST] The Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) attacked the Peshmerga forces of Kurdistan on Sunday night in Duhok province and martyred one Peshmerga fighters.

According to the information obtained by media sources, the attack targeted a Peshmerga checkpoint between the villages of Sargali and Derashe, in Amedi district of Duhok province.

Sources said a PKK vehicle passed through the checkpoint without stopping and opened fire immediately, which was followed by shootings from two other directions simultaneously.

The Peshmerga forces responded to what appeared to be a previously planned offensive, as the result of which First Lieutenant jahid Abdulrahman was martyred.

Security sources confirmed that checkpoint was mainly for preventing goods smuggled into the Kurdistan Region with no permission.

This was the extension of PKK’s recent push for provoking a war with the Kurdistan Region Peshmerga forces after their relations worsened in the past few months.

Senior Jemaah Islamiyah Figure in Indonesian Custody
11 December
[BenarNews] One of the Jemaah Islamiyah suspects in Indonesian custody is a senior religious scholar who was a candidate to serve as the murderous Moslem group’s next leader, police and counter-terrorism experts said Friday.

The anti-terror unit Densus 88 arrested Siswanto, a suspected senior Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) member also known as Arif Siswanto, during a raid in Central Java’s Klaten regency on Nov. 13, according to information from police.

"The arrest was made without fanfare," Muhammad Taufiqurrohman, a researcher at the Center for Radicalism and Deradicalization Studies (PAKAR), a think-tank based in Jakarta.

12 December
[BenarNews] Indonesian police arrested the suspected military commander of the al-Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) network who has been on the run for 18 years, authorities said Saturday.

National police front man Argo Yuwono said Aris Sumarsono (alias Zulkarnaen) was arrested by Indonesia’s counter-terrorism police squad Detachment 88 (Densus 88) on Thursday in East Lampung regency on Sumatra Island.

#1  Zulkarnaen is not the first generation Jihadist.
Bin Laden used Muhammad Jamal Khalifa, his peripatetic brother-in-law, money-man, and former Afghan-Arab as liaison with nascent Philippine and Indonesia Islamists. In the Philippines Khalifa provided financing to Abdulrajak Janjalani and to the Abu Sayyaf movement. Working from Manila, Khalifa moved Southeast Asian Islamists to and through training camps in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Lebanon, Gaza and Sudan. In Southeast Asia itself, the Abu Sayyaf supported the Islamic Defenders Front in Indonesia and helped finance Yemeni Sheikh Muqbil bin Hadi's activity in Indonesia's Moluccas in that emerging Muslim-Christian conflict. Thus insurgency in Indonesia has been ongoing for 30 years.

#3  A long story:In November 1988 a large gathering of Islamists met in the USA at the Oklahoma City Convention Center. Sponsored by the Muslim Arab Youth Association (MAYA) for Palestine, the featured speaker was Sheikh Abdallah Azzam the noted Afghan-Arab who made his home in Peshawar (and assassinated by Zawahiri). Azzam was working to finish the task of creating an Islamist Afghanistan, but after that he informed the gathering he would return to the struggle for Palestine, his homeland. Azzam then saw to it that MAYA served as a HAMAS front. Devoted to the extirpation of Israel, HAMAS had only recently been organized in Gaza. Its leader wanted to play the Islamist game, and in Gaza it could outdo the Popular Front/Liberation of Palestine which was secular and Marxist. By 1990 Hamas had a training camp near Khan Yunis for Muj from everywhere. Its forte was bogus paper (passports, counterfeit bills, etc.) and explosives.

Indonesian Police: 4 Supporters of Firebrand Cleric were Killed while in Custody
[BenarNews] Four of six members of a hardline Moslem group killed by police last week were shot while in jug after they attacked officers inside a police vehicle, an investigator said Monday after a re-enactment of events.

The incident occurred on Dec. 7 when members of the Moslem Defenders’ Front (FPI)
... founder of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) headquartered in Jakarta, FPI began agitating for national imposition of sharia law in 1998. The group quickly attracted patronage — including funding and military training for its paramilitary arm, Laskar Pembela Islam (Islamic Defenders Paramilitary, LPI)— from Indonesia’s army and Jakarta’s police. They’re fond of vigilante actions and Antifa-style protests with violence. The right reverend Rizieq Shihab recently returned from a three year sojourn in Saudi Arabia...
who were traveling with founder Muhammad Rizieq Shihab surrounded the police car and started shooting, prompting officers to return fire, killing two, said Andi Rian, national police director for general crimes.

"The four people who were still alive were taken in a police car to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters. On the way, they attacked and tried to seize officers’ guns," Andi told news hounds after the re-enactment, adding the four suspects were not handcuffed.

"They were met with decisive and measured action by police," he said.

The investigator’s comments about the re-enactment of the incident about 50 km (31 miles) east of Jakarta drew a rebuke from FPI leaders and a call from NGO Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) for an independent probe.

Last week, Jakarta Police Chief Muhammad Fadil Imran said the officers shot and killed the six after they shot up police and attacked them with a sword and sickles. But he made no mention of any alleged shootings inside the vehicle. A photo from a presser that day showed officers holding the sword and sickle along with two handguns.

Instead, Fadil said the shooting occurred when the group attacked officers who were in a car trailing Riziek’s motorcade. The officers had received information that the preacher’s supporters were planning to protest at police headquarters in Jakarta that day, because Rizieq had been called in for questioning over allegations that he and other FPI leaders violated COVID-19 restrictions during events in November.

Munarman, FPI’s general secretary, accused police of extrajudicial killings and pointed out that Andi’s version of the incident differed from last week’s report.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Lebanese Activist Jailed for 'Collaborating' with Israel
[AnNahar] Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
's military prosecution on Monday sentenced an activist to three years in prison for "collaborating" with Israel and traveling to it, a judicial source said.

The National News Agency said Kinda al-Khatib was sentenced for allegedly visiting Israel, contacting Israeli agents and providing them with security information.

Lebanon is technically still at war with Israel and forbids its citizens from traveling there.

Al-Khatib was detained in June with her brother, who was later released. According to local media reports, she had visited Israel by crossing from Jordan.

Al-Khatib had been active on social media, where she harshly criticized Lebanon's Iran-backed Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
and its ally President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
Her family and activists have denounced her arrest as "political" because of her tweets against those in power.

Lebanese media and activists have drawn a parallel between Khatib's case and that of actor Ziad Itani, who was also accused of "collaborating" with Israel in 2017.

Itani was declared innocent and released several months later, and a high-ranking security officer was then charged with "fabricating" the case.
