Turkish warship attacks Libyan Army after shooting down aircraft
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Libyan National Army announced on Wednesday that their forces were attacked by a Ottoman Turkish warship that was targeting the al-Ajailat area, west of the capital, Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
According to the front man for the General Command of the Libyan Army, Major General Ahmed al-Mismari, "a Ottoman Turkish warship has launched rockets from the sea at the al-Ajailat area without causing any losses."

He added: "The intervention of the Ottoman Turkish naval forces continues as the navy battleships were previously accompanied by cargo ships carrying weapons and military equipment for Syrian snuffies and mercenaries."

The media center of the Libyan Army’s al-Karamah Operations Room announced earlier this morning, "the shooting down of a Ottoman Turkish plane marching over the sky of the city of al-Ajailat," saying that "the air defenses of the Libyan armed forces managed to shoot down the Ottoman Turkish plane moving in the western part of the country."

In turn, the forces of the Libyan Government of National Accord announced, today, the shooting down of an Emirati aircraft, south of the "Al-Ajailat" area.

"The air defenses of the al-Wefaq government forces succeeded in shooting down an Emirati plane, south of al-Ajailat, without further details," said Mohammed Qanunu, a front man for the al-Wefaq forces.

Insurgents change tactics as Mozambique seeks help
[DefenceWeb] Cabo Delgado province in Northern Mozambique has seen a dramatic spike in attacks in recent days, including a spectacular ‘hearts and minds’ operation by insurgents in the strategic coastal town of Mocímboa da Praia.

The town is close to Mozambique’s natural gas production installations. Several companies are reportedly now for the first time planning to evacuate some employees who hadn’t already left due to fears of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ISIS-inspired Ahlu-Sunnah Wal Jama’at (Al-Sunnah)
...Ansar al-Sunna (supporters of the tradition), known formally as “Ahlu Sunnah Wa-Jamo” with various spellings of the final word (adepts of the prophetic tradition) and informally by the locals as Al Shabaab. Appearing in Mozambique in 2015, this particular Ansar al Sunna were originally followers of the radical Kenyan cleric Aboud Rogo, who was killed in 2012. They seem to be your standard takfiris, happily enforcing their Salafist rules on the surrounding populace. Apparently they hired members of Somali Al Shabaab to train them in jihading, then split into various cells. Ansar al-Sunna funds itself through heroin, contraband and the ivory trade...
attackers were met with little resistance, as there was only a handful of soldiers, some of them apparently asleep, at the time of the invasion.

The armed men burnt government property including buildings and military assets, banks and cars, but didn’t seem to go on a large-scale killing spree, as they’ve done since the insurgency began over two years ago. (The insurgents claimed to have killed several members of the security forces, but local authorities haven’t released any official figures of casualties.) Instead the attackers distributed food and then left the village, with some local inhabitants cheering them on.

PKK claims suicide attack on Turkey-Iran pipeline, killing 30 Turkish soldiers
Follow up to this story from a few days ago.
[Rudaw] At least 30 Ottoman Turkish soldiers were killed when a Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) fighter launched a suicide kaboom on a pipeline in Agri province near the Iran-The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
border on Tuesday, the group claimed in a statement.

The attack was allegedly carried out by Sema Kocer, a 25-year-old PKK fighter, in Dogubeyazit at around 5am on Tuesday, according to a statement published by the pro-Kurdish ANF news agency.

Turkey is yet to confirm the cause of the attack or the number of casualties. According to the PKK, at least 30 Ottoman Turkish troops died and "dozens" were maimed. Five armored vehicles were also destroyed.

The Ottoman Turkish troops were guarding a gas pipeline, which was damaged in the attack, disrupting Iranian gas exports to Turkey.

Mehdi Jamshidi-Dana, director of National Iranian Gas Co., confirmed the damage to the pipeline and said exports would resume following repairs.

"The damaged part of Iran’s gas export pipeline to Turkey will be repaired within the next few days," he said, according to Mehr News.

The pipeline carries around 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas each year. This is not the first time it has been targeted by the PKK.

Ottoman Turkish state broadcaster TRT Haber shared footage of Tuesday’s attack. It said the cause of the blast is currently under investigation.

Turkey’s defense ministry issued a statement shortly after the earth-shattering kaboom claiming its forces had "neutralized" a member of the PKK who wanted to enter Turkey from Iran.

"A terrorist was neutralized in an operation carried out by the border units [guards] in Agri/Dogubeyazit after members of the separatist terrorist organization of the PKK tried to enter our country from Iran," the statement read.

The Ottoman Turkish government uses the term "neutralized" to denote death, injury, or capture. It did not mention Ottoman Turkish casualties.

Sema Kocer, the alleged attacker, is the nom de guerre of Rewshen Askara, who was born in Siirt province in 1995 and joined the ranks of the PKK in 2014, according to the group's statement.

Turkey routinely launches land and air operations against the group at home, in the Kurdistan Region, and in Iraq’s disputed territories of Shingal and Makhmour. It also attacks Kurdish forces in northern Syria, accusing them of fostering ties with the PKK.

Ankara launched Operation Kapan 8 on March 13 covering Agri, Kars, and Igdir provinces. The latest phase of the operation involves 1,012 troops.

The first phase was launched on January 11 in the southeastern province of Mardin.

India-Pakistan
Pakistan court overturns conviction in death of Daniel Pearl
[NBC] KARACHI, Pakistan — A Pakistani court Thursday overturned the murder conviction of a British Pakistani man found guilty of the 2002 kidnapping and killing of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl.

Instead, the court found Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh guilty of the lesser charge of kidnapping and sentenced him to seven years in prison.

Pearl disappeared Jan. 23, 2002 in Karachi while researching links between Pakistani militants and Richard C. Reid, who became known as the “shoe-bomber” after he was arrested on a flight from Paris to Miami with explosives in his shoes. Prosecutors said Saeed lured Pearl into a trap by promising to arrange an interview with an Islamic cleric who police believed was not involved in the conspiracy.

One of Saeed's lawyers, Khwaja Naveed, said Saeed could go free unless the government chooses to challenge the court decision. Faiz Shah, prosecutor general for southern Sindh province, said the government will appeal to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Saeed has already spent 18 years in prison in southern Hyderabad on death row. The seven-year sentence was expected to be counted as time served, said Naveed.

The Sindh High Court also acquitted three others accused in the case: Fahad Naseem, Sheikh Adil, and Salman Saqib, who were earlier sentenced to life in prison. The defendants were also collectively fined $32,000.

Saeed, a former student at the London School of Economics, and the others were convicted in 2002.

A videotape received by U.S. diplomats in February, 2002 confirmed that Pearl, 38, was dead. He had been beheaded.

The Pearl Project, an investigative journalism team at Washington's Georgetown University, carried out a three-year investigation into Pearl's kidnapping and death. They concluded the reporter was beheaded by Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, who was arrested in Pakistan in 2003 and later described as the architect of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States. Mohammad is a prisoner at the U.S. Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Soon after Pearl disappeared, Pakistani and U.S. news organizations received emails from the previously unknown National Movement for the Restoration of Pakistani Sovereignty. The group demanded better treatment for Taliban and al-Qaida prisoners at Guantanamo.

FBI agents traced the emails to Saeed, who admitted his role in the kidnapping during his first court appearance but later recanted.

Saeed had been arrested in 1994 by Indian authorities, accused of kidnapping three Britons and an American, who were all freed unharmed, in Indian-ruled Kashmir, Hindu India's only Muslim dominated region.

In 1999, India freed Saeed and two other militants in exchange for the release of 155 passengers and crew aboard an Indian Airlines plane hijacked to Kandahar, Afghanistan.

The Pearl kidnapping was the first of five attacks against Westerners in Pakistan in 2002. A grenade attack against a Protestant church in Islamabad on March 17 killed five people, including two Americans and the attacker, were killed.

FBI agents traced the emails to Saeed, who admitted his role in the kidnapping during his first court appearance but later recanted. “Right or wrong I had my reasons,” Saeed told the court at the time. “I think that our country shouldn’t be catering to America’s needs.” The statement was ruled inadmissible because it was not made under oath.

Militant group executes Syrian civilian for espionage in Idlib
[ALMASDARNEWS] A krazed killer faction executed a Syrian civilian in the Idlib Governorate this week for allegedly spying on behalf of the Syrian government.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the jihadist group, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
(HTS), carried out the execution a Syrian man by firing squad inside the town of Janudiah, which is in the Jisr al-Shughour countryside.

The monitor said the man was arrested by HTS on May 13th, 2019, after he was allegedly caught providing voice notes to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the Kabani area of northeastern Latakia.
