#7  ...There is a wonderful story about Ms. Oliver's brief appearance on Trek that still makes me smile fifty-something years later.

Seems when they got the first rushes back of her performance as the green Orion slave girl,..she came out as pink as the day she'd been born. The producers told the makeup people, who doubled down on their efforts.

A few hours later...she's pink again.

Now they were a bit mystified - this was costing time and money as well as taking a toll on Ms. Oliver, so they painted her up again and put a green filter on the camera just to be on the safe side. And one of the producers decided to follow the film through the developing process to see if something was wrong there.

Sure enough, they discovered an elderly gentleman back in the processing lab shop looked at the film, muttered to himself, "My God, that girl's GREEN again.." and prepared to develop the film so she'd come out a nice, normal pink. Apparently he couldn't quite get his head around the concept of green Orion slave girls.

Afghanistan
Islamic Emirate Deploys Around 2,500 Troops to Sar-e-Pul
[TOLONEWS] The Islamic Emirate deployed more than 2,500 troops to the northern province of Sar-e-Pul
...a city and eponymous province in northern Afghanistan, population about 500,000. Demographically it is majority Tadjik and Uzbek. There are small Pashtun, Arab, and Hazara communities, of which the Hazaras mostly don't bother anyone...
to provide security there. "Over 1,500 Mujahedeen are settled in Squadron-3 and over 1,000 others stationed in Squadron-4. Now, also 200 Mujahedeen have graduated after taking six weeks of training," said Mufti Mohammad Muqtasid, a senior commander of the Islamic Emirate in the province.

The commander of the al-Fatha corps in northern Afghanistan, Ataullah Omari, said that the newly deployed forces are professionally trained.

The commander denied reports about the presence of ISIS fighters in the province and warned that they would prevent any attacks.

The commander praised the sacrifice of Islamic Emirate forces, saying it was the main factor in defeating the US in Afghanistan.

"The US with all of its selfishness and equipment and funds was defeated. They left our country in shame and embarrassment," he said.

The al-Fatha corps is in charge of ensuring security in Faryab, Sar-e-Pul, Jawzjan, Balkh and Samangan provinces.

The process of training new forces is ongoing, the commander said.

Previously, the chief of staff of the Islamic Emirate forces announced that efforts were underway to form a unit of 100,000 troops.

Seven protesters killed in Sudan amid calls for civilian disobedience
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Sudanese security forces killed seven protesters in fresh anti-coup demonstrations on Monday triggering calls for civilian disobedience nearly three months after the military takeover.

To disperse protesters, the security forces now use lethal tactics and military weapons including machine guns and heavy machine guns such as Ddhk or Dushka and armoured vehicles.

The pro-democracy Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors (CCDD), which deploys medical emergency teams during the protests, said the security forces killed seven protesters.

The medical group added that about a hundred others are maimed by bullets and other weapons.

Monday’s casualties bring to 71 the corpse count of protesters killed after the coup of October 25.

The anti-coup demonstrations took place in Khartoum State, and Wad Madani of al-Jazeera State as well as other towns in several states.

During the past weeks, the Sovereign Council pledged to investigate the killing of protesters, the attacks on hospitals and medical personnel as well as media offices.

On Monday, the Sovereign Council held a meeting to discuss the security situation with the participation of its three members of the signatory groups.

After the meeting, the military-led collegial body issued a statement praising the "cleverness of the security forces". The council added they showed restraint and dealt wisely with protesters to ensure the protection of civilians.

The Council further regretted the chaos and violence by protesters which violate the right to peaceful demonstration, further stressed the statement.

The use of excessive violence against protesters raised condemnations by trade unions and professional groups from different sectors.

For its part, the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) called for a two-day general strike in response to the bloody crackdown on protesters on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Libyan National Army Deports over 1000 Migrants to Niger
[LIBYAREVIEW] Major General Khaled al-Mahjoub, Director of Moral Affairs in the Libyan National Army (LNA), said more than 1,000 migrants colonists were deported from Libya to Niger. In a press briefing, al-Mahjoub noted that work is being done to end the phenomenon of "illegal" migration in the North-African country.

He pointed out to the "qualitative operations" of the armed forces in the southern region of the country aim to combat "illegal" migration and smuggling.

Last week, LNA forces started a wide and comprehensive military operation in the southern regions to impose security, said Commander of Southern Operations and Commander of the Sabha
...After the Libyan Civil War, Sabha grew in importance as a slave auctioning town. However, an investigation by the National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL) revealed that while there was illegal slavery, reports were exaggerated, as slave auctions were rare and not made public. This was a great comfort to everyone but the slaves peddled in secret. The city was later seized by forces loyal to the Libyan National Army (LNA) and its leader Khalifa Haftar in January 2019, probably for its collection of MiG-25 aircraft....
Military Region, Major General al-Mabrouk Sahban.

He added that, the first phase of the military operation targets all violators in terms of random construction, drug trafficking, smuggling, "illegal" migration and the spread of gangs.

The second phase targets illegal fuel stations, which distribute smuggled fuel at high prices. The phase will not start until after fuel is available at all stations licensed by the Libyan state.

"Distributing fuel to the Sabha oil depot is unfair due to the lack of adequate control over the distribution stations, in addition to the existence of a major manipulation involving the distribution stations and several parties," Sahban said, stressing that there are efforts by the LNA aimed at delivering fuel to all Libyans.

In an interview with al-Ain News, he added that LNA forces are showing great interest in the Murzuq Basin areas, where several meetings have been held for a comprehensive settlement between the parties of the city.

Armed Groups Clash in Libyan Capital
[LIBYAREVIEW] Clashes broke out in Libya’s capital Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
between rival gangs on Sunday amid a state of ongoing insecurity. On January 16th, fighting took place on the Shatt Road near the port of Tripoli and the Central Bank of Libya between the Nawasi Brigade and the Special Deterrence Force.

A number of eyewitnesses said that the festivities coincided with the passage of armoured vehicles and cars in both directions.

The fighting sparked panic among the locals, while the government remained silent in the face of what observers described as a struggle between contending factions.

The fighting follows major festivities in October 2021 in the city of Zawiya, West of Tripoli, and smaller incidents or festivities inside the capital.

In the wake of Libya’s 2011 NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
-backed uprising, militias built a powerful role for themselves by filling the security vacuum left by the overthrow of late longtime-leader Muammar Qadaffy
...Proof that a madman with money will be politely received for at least 42 years until his people get tired of him and kill him...
. Armed groups emerged in all over Libya, but the complexity and prevalence is especially noticable in and around the capital, Tripoli.

Since then, Libya has witnessed little peace and remains divided into warring eastern and western factions.

Tripoli has sought to bring the militias under control by putting them on the government payroll and assigning them to protect government offices. However button men often remain loyal to their own Commanders and battle for control of local areas.

Explosives Team Clears Mines in West Libya
[LIBYAREVIEW] The Explosives Bureau team, at the Libyan Police’s Technical Affairs Department cleared anti-personnel mines from a farm in the Ain Zara area of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
.The Ministry of Interior said in a statement that the team combed the farm, as they believed that mines had been planted extensively on the land.

This came after a report was received that three people had been killed on the farm, which has become known as the "death farm, according to the statement.

Last March, UNICEF said that estimates indicate that there are more than 500,000 people at risk in Libya due to war remnants. This includes 63,000 displaced people, 123,000 people who have returned to the areas from which they were displaced, 145,000 residents, and 175,000 migrants colonists.

In December 2021, police found large quantities of ammunition and explosives hidden inside a house. This came after a landmine went kaboom!, killed six children and maimed two others from the same family.

The explosives were hidden in the house of a "bandit," the Interior Ministry said in a statement. It added that ammunition and explosives were found in cooperation with the Department of Security and Safety of al-Zawiya.

"These munitions and explosives were found after information was received about the suspicious house. This joint cooperation was between the Jafara Security Directorate, the Internal Security Office of Aziziyah, and al-Amiriya Square," the statement concluded.

Arabia
The Houthis attack Abu Dhabi, Arabian coalition airstrikes Sanaa
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin:

[ColonelCassad] The Houthis, with the help of UAVs, covered the new terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport, and also hit oil storage facilities.

The Houthis have already confirmed the attack and promised more details during the day. Abu Dhabi police report fires at airport following hits. A number of publications report at least two strong explosions at the airport. There are unconfirmed reports of three fuel trucks destroyed.

The UAE has not attacked for a long time - the Houthis massively launched missiles and drones in the direction of Saudi Arabia. Now the emirates have arrived. Al Mayadeen claims that 20 kamikaze UAVs and 10 ballistic missiles were allegedly launched into Abu Dhabi. How many could shoot down the Abu Dhabi air defense unit is not reported. The Saudis today reported on 3 kamikaze UAVs shot down over the southern provinces of Saudi Arabia.

In general, we are waiting for the details of the operation.
In any case, regardless of the number of drones and missiles fired, as well as the damage caused, the Houthis demonstrate that they can easily reach the capital of the UAE

As of Monday, the UAE is no longer a safe country
[ColonelCassad] Following the successful strike on Abu Dhabi, the Houthi leader said that from today, all countries and companies investing in the UAE should not consider the UAE as a safe country. That is, he transparently hinted that the campaign of ballistic missile strikes and kamikaze UAVs against the UAE would become as systematic as against Saudi Arabia.

Previously, the Houthis have already linked the issue of stopping strikes on Saudi Arabia (and now on the UAE) with the demands to stop air strikes on the cities of Yemen, saying that as long as Yemen is being bombed, we will be bombing the territory of the intervention countries.

I wonder where the drones were actually launched from?

In the case of the UAE, the Houthis said that they had previously stated that they were withdrawing troops from Yemen and were going to leave, but did not leave and continued to participate in aggression against the Yemeni people, along with other interventionists, occupying the sovereign territory of Yemen. Therefore, last week the Houthis warned that there would be consequences. And today, the consequences for the duplicitous policy of the UAE have arrived.

According to preliminary data, 2 Indian citizens were killed on the territory of the Abu Dhabi airport, one Pakistani + 6 more people were injured.

A strong fire continues at the Abu Dhabi airport. Burnt fuel trucks and a military transport aircraft are also reported. Saudi Arabia called the Houthis strike a "cowardly terrorist attack." Of course, when the Saudis bombed Sanaa several times last week, including the Sanaa airport, it was not considered a terrorist attack.

Hindu Monk Jailed after Calling for 'Genocide' of Muslims
[An Nahar] Indian authorities have charged a Hindu monk with inciting religious violence after he called for the "genocide" of India's Moslems at a meeting of right-wing supporters, police said Monday.Senior police officer Swatantra Kumar said Yati Narsinghanand Giri, an outspoken supporter of far-right nationalists who also heads a Hindu monastery, was initially arrested on Saturday on allegations that he made derogatory remarks against women. He appeared the following day in a court in the town of Haridwar, where he was sent into 14 days of custody for hate speech against Moslems and calling for violence against them.

Kumar said the monk Giri, whom he described as a "repeat offender," was formally charged Monday for promoting "enmity between different groups on grounds of religion." The charge can carry a jail term of five years.

In December, Giri and other religious leaders called on Hindus to arm themselves for "a genocide" against Moslems during a meeting in Haridwar, a northern holy town in Uttarakhand, according to a police complaint. He is the second person to be arrested in the case after India's Supreme Court
...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations...
intervened last week.

Uttarakhand state is ruled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata. The political party's rise to power in 2014, and landslide reelection in 2019, has led to a spike in attacks against Moslems and other minorities.

Moslems comprise nearly 14% of India's 1.4 billion people, a largely Hindu country that has long proclaimed its multicultural character.

The three-day conference that the monk Giri helped to organized was called the "Dharam Sansad" or "Religious Parliament" and followed on years of rising anti-Moslem hate speech. The closed-door meetings witnessed some of the most explicit calls for violence yet.

Videos from the conference showed multiple Hindu monks, some of whom have close ties to Modi's ruling party, saying Hindus should kill Moslems.

"If 100 of us are ready to kill two million of them, then we will win and make India a Hindu nation," said Pooja Shakun Pandey, a Hindu nationalist leader, referring to the country's Moslem population. Her calls for such a massacre were met with applause from the audience.

Two militant associates held in Awantipora
[GREATERKASHMIR] Police on Monday claimed to have held two bully boy associates along with "kaboom" in Awantipora area of south Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....

Militants lob grenade at PCR in Srinagar
[PUBLISH.TWITTER] Major General Khaled Al-Mahjoub, Director of Moral Affairs in the Libyan National Army (LNA), said more than 1,000 migrants were deported from Libya to Niger.

In a press briefing, Al-Mahjoub noted that work is being done to end the phenomenon of “illegal” migration in the North-African country.

He pointed out to the “qualitative operations” of the armed forces in the southern region of the country aim to combat “illegal” migration and smuggling.

Last week, LNA forces started a wide and comprehensive military operation in the southern regions to impose security, said Commander of Southern Operations and Commander of the Sabha Military Region, Major General Al-Mabrouk Sahban.

He added that, the first phase of the military operation targets all violators in terms of random construction, drug trafficking, smuggling, “illegal” migration and the spread of armed groups.

The second phase targets illegal fuel stations, which distribute smuggled fuel at high prices. The phase will not start until after fuel is available at all stations licensed by the Libyan state.

“Distributing fuel to the Sabha oil depot is unfair due to the lack of adequate control over the distribution stations, in addition to the existence of a major manipulation involving the distribution stations and several parties,” Sahban said, stressing that there are efforts by the LNA aimed at delivering fuel to all Libyans.

In an interview with Al-Ain News, he added that LNA forces are showing great interest in the Murzuq Basin areas, where several meetings have been held for a comprehensive settlement between the parties of the city.

IDF: Palestinian tries to stab troops at West Bank bus stop, is shot dead
[IsraelTimes] No Israelis injured; driver of the car that transported the alleged assailant hands himself in after manhunt; incident comes amid relative lull in attacks by Paleostinians

A Paleostinian man was rubbed out as he attempted to stab soldiers at a bus stop in the central West Bank on Monday, the Israel Defense Forces said.

No Israeli injuries were reported.

"The assailant got out of a car, armed with a knife, and tried to stab an IDF soldier," the military said.

The soldier shot up the man, killing him, according to the IDF. The knife was recovered at the scene.

Troops launched a search to find the car that transported the assailant to the scene, setting up roadblocks in the area. A short while later, the driver of the vehicle turned himself in to Israeli security forces, the Defense Ministry’s Civil Administration said.

Video footage from the scene showed the alleged assailant lying on the ground but moving, after he was shot, next to a bus stop full of soldiers near the Gush Etzion Junction.

The assailant was identified by the Paleostinian Authority as Faleh Mousa Shakir Jaradat, from the village of Seir near Hebron. The name of the driver was not immediately released.

The soldiers guarding the bus stop were reservists, who were deployed to the area last week.

The attempted attack came amid a general lull in attacks by Paleostinians against Israeli soldiers and civilians in the West Bank, following a rise in violence at the end of last year.

Government armed group arrests young men in Syria's Daraa
[NPASYRIA] A local group affiliated with the Military Security Branch of the Syrian government arrested four young men, who are said to be civilians, after storming their house in the governorate of Daraa, south Syria.

Members of the group of Mustafa al-Masalmeh known a "al-Kasem" stormed the house of Tayysir Ayyash in Sabil neighborhood and arrested four of his sons after inspecting their house completely, a local source told North Press.

Al-Kasem, who was a former leader of the ranks of the Syrian armed opposition, joined the Military Security Branch of the government in 2018.

The former leader of opposition and the current government official took part in many arrests against civilians in Menshyya neighborhood in Daraa al-Balad, according to testimonies by local residents.

The group accompanied the four young men to an unknown place without revealing the reason for arrest, according to the source.

The arrest came a day after killing Muhammad Bassam Terki al-Masalmeh, 21, nicknamed Abu Terki, a commander of a military unit in the Fourth Armored Division affiliated with the Syrian government forces, when an IED detonated in his vehicle in al-Matar neighborhood in the center of Daraa.

Russia reorganizes its strategy in Syria's south
[NPASYRIA] Russia is trying its best to strengthen the Syrian government to reassert its control over southern Syria most notably Daraa governorate, the birthplace of the protests against the Syrian government.

Russia helped to disband all of the military formations under the opposition factions, attached them with the settlement agreement and then with the Syrian government forces. Accordingly, Russia transferred the subordination of the Eighth Brigade, which was affiliated with the Fifth Corps, to the Military Intelligence of the Syrian government, specifically to 265 Branch located in Damascus.

Sources close to the Eighth Brigade told North Press that Russia asked the leader of the Eighth Brigade to send his fighters to fight alongside the government forces in its battles against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Organization (ISIS) in the Syrian Desert as the government forces was reported to have heavy loses.

The sources quoted the Eighth Brigade leadership as saying the leadership refused to engage its fighters in the fight in the Syrian Desert adding the forces only perform service in Daraa governorate and in Salma military camp in Latakia governorate.

As’ad Awad al-Zo’ebi, a military expert and an analyst, told North Press that Russia desperately need to eliminate the Eighth Brigade. If the Eighth Brigade goes to fight in the Syrian Desert, Russia will get rid of it as well as of ISIS. And if it refused or join Iranian-backed militias, this will be a pretext to arrest its fighters by the security forces.

The Eighth Brigade refused to join the fight in the Syrian Desert. However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
there is a possibility that some fighters within the Brigade are obliged to go; those who are stranded. They cannot protect themselves because they are wanted by the Syrian government forces which will send them to the compulsory army service and reserve, al-Zo’ebi said.

Al-Zo’ebi pointed out that if the Eighth Brigade refused the Russian orders, the leaders of the Brigade might be assassinated the same way previous leaders were murdered. This means they have no choice or some of them might evade.

Concerning the probable scenario, al-Zo’ebi said lifting the Russian cover from the Brigade completely and make it subordinate to the Syrian government forces to "barter the fighters" will probably assign them to fight their blood brothers in Daraa or to be mercenaries to fight outside Syria. All possibilities are open.

Al-Zo’ebi stressed that the goal of all the pressures practiced on the Eighth Brigade is to eliminate every name or presence related to it in Daraa and end its continuation as one military formation.

A fighter of the Eighth Brigade, on condition not to disclose his name, told North Press that they have not earned their salaries since April 2021.

"The fighters are stick to fight alongside the Brigade in order to protect themselves and their families from being arrested by the Syrian government forces," the fighter said.

The Syrian government forces asked fighters of the Eighth Brigade to join the settlement agreement kicked off in early September 2021.

The government forces asked the fighters to hand over their personal guns, but leaders of the Eighth Brigade refused then. So, the Russian Military Police intervened and asked fighters of the Brigade to hand over their personal guns to the leaders of the Brigade in Busra al-Sham in the eastern countryside of Daraa and the fighters agreed to do so.
