FBI Assistant Director of Terrorism discusses 6 Jan threat and lack 'intent' (video)
Kyrsten Lea Sinema, (D-AZ) ...."Committees heard about intelligence shared from the Norfolk, VA field office warning of extremists travel..."

FBI Assistant Director Sandborn sites lack of "intent" on the part of extremists and shortfalls in "information sharing." She promises that the FBI will do.... "better."

#1  The exchange btwn Sinema and Sandborn was rapid-fire and deliberate. Note the early First Amendment framing, then lack of intent. Monitoring of Sandborn's responses and body language (I watched it nine times) could lead one to suspect prior scripting and rehearsal.

Inter-agency communications and reporting shortfalls or failures....same as 9/11 ?

At a minimum, a very poor example of 'cover your arse' enabled through hurried questions from a Dem. Almost like watching a 50's 'B-Movie' Western. Sorry, no sale here. I'm not buying any of it.

Border Patrol suspects all victims in deadly California crash were illegal immigrants
[Just The News] The El Centro Sector of U.S. Customs and Border Protection said late Wednesday it suspects all 13 individuals who died as a result of a crash on Tuesday were undocumented immigrants.

Authorities as of late Tuesday had yet to determine whether the SUV that fatally crashed into a tractor-trailer in California just after sunrise was attempting to smuggle Mexican passengers illegally into the U.S.

Thirteen of the vehicle's 25 passengers, including the driver, were killed. The Mexican government said 10 of the dead were Mexican citizens and that nationalities of the three others who died were undetermined.

....but they were reported to have spoken Mexican

#15  There is, by definition, no such thing as an 'illegal immigrant'.

Immigrants gain that status by the state department when they obtain an immigration visa - and thus, are documented and legal.
When you overstay your non-immigrant visa, or cross the border illegally, or have your 'immigration visa' revoked, you do not magically become (or remain) an immigrant - you become an illegal alien.

World no closer to answer on COVID origins despite WHO probe - expert
SHANGHAI (Reuters) - Despite a high-profile visit to China by a team of international experts in January, the world is no closer to knowing the origins of COVID-19, according to one of the authors of an open letter calling for a new investigation into the pandemic.

"At this point we are no further advanced than we were a year ago," said Nikolai Petrovsky, an expert in vaccines at Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia, and one of 26 global experts who signed the open letter, published on Thursday.

In January, a team of scientists picked by the World Health Organization (WHO) visited hospitals and research institutes in Wuhan, the central Chinese city where the coronavirus was identified, in search of clues about the origins of COVID-19.

Biden Announces All Bombs Used In The Middle East Will Be Purchased From Black-Owned Businesses
[Babylon Bee] WASHINGTON, D.C.—Journalists are praising Joe Biden after he announced that every bomb he drops in the Middle East from now on will be purchased from a black-owned business.

President Biden made the announcement in front of a huge crowd of white journalists on Zoom, who cheered so loud after hearing the news that President Biden had to adjust his earpiece.

"Hey, folks-- here's the deal: we gotta drop some bombs. We just do. That's how things are," said Biden. "We have all these extra bombs lying around collecting dust and we have to drop them on those people over there who -- as intelligence is telling us -- are bad people. They're bad people folks! Gotta bomb 'em!"

"But we're gonna purchase all our future bombs from some clean, articulate black business owners who make bombs. It's just the right thing to do," he continued.

Unfortunately, it was later discovered that there are no black business owners in the country who make bombs for the U.S. military. "Ah man-- that's too bad," said Biden before canceling his meeting with Al Sharpton.

America's elites are waging class war on workers and small biz
h/t Instapundit
[NYP] - In America, class warfare is often disguised as culture war, and culture war is often cloaked by talk of race. But underneath it all, the class warfare is still there. Whether accidentally or intentionally, America’s upper classes seem to wind up harming the working class and small businesses, always in the name of some high-minded cause.

On immigration, for example, the go-to move is to call people who object to open borders racists and nativists. But what’s behind it? As Biden economic adviser Jared Bernstein commented: "A tight job market pressures employers to boost wage offers . . . One equally surefire way to short-circuit this useful dynamic is to turn on the immigrant spigot every time some group’s wages go up." Immigration as a way of keeping working-class wages down.

Likewise, efforts to defund police or de-police neighborhoods are treated as anti-racism, but their actual, predictable effect is to make poor and working-class neighborhoods much less safe, in order to make wealthy woke activists feel good about themselves. Similarly, Anthony Lukas’ classic book, "Common Ground," told the story of how wealthy white activists placed most of the burden of desegregating Boston’s public schools on poor black and white families, while those behind the policies retreated to leafy suburbs, far from the problems they had created, or made worse.

You Thought HR1Was Bad? You Don't Know the Half of It.
[PJMedia via Lucianne] The 2021 "For the People Act" - HR 1 is one of the worst bills ever given political life. Authors claim it would "expand Americans' access to the ballot box" and indeed it does. It changes our elections into something akin to an open-air market, where every "individual" ; not "citizen"; can vote. Its passage late Wednesday night proves again why nothing good ever happens when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi lurks with her cartoon-sized gavel after dark.

Maybe Politicians Should Have Employment Contracts
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] As calls mount for New York Governor Andrew Sonny Cuomo to resign, the law professor in me wonders impishly why he’s still in office. After all, as critics have pointed out, were Cuomo a CEO, he’d likely be on his way out. But he’s not a CEO; he’s an elected official; and he has no written contract with any sort of morals clause, or, as has become fashionable, a clause in which he promises not to bring his employer into disrepute.

The question is ... why not?

Well, because elected officials don’t sign contracts. Maybe this flows from the separation of powers, but maybe it’s simply a matter of historical tradition, the way we’ve always done things. The protection against malfeasance or misfeasance is, with rare exception, the judgment of the voters at the next election.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Lebanon: Minimal Politics, Extreme Existentialism
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] If the situation in Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
were portrayed in an image, the most precise might be the following:

A family of four or five live in the same house, but one of the family members owns a pistol that he oils and toys with in times of "stability" and calm and points at the others’ heads when there is tension, thereby pacifying them and restoring "stability." Under this status quo, everything collapses: the economy, security, judiciary, political life, ties to the outside world... The pillars of the house itself are cracking, and it is in danger of collapsing, especially since it had been targeted by a near-nuclear explosion.

‘Eyes of Texas’ about to be Put Out
[Dallas News] Emails from alumni threatening to pull hefty donations unless the University of Texas keeps a controversial song tradition didn’t sit well with many other graduates, even those who have fond memories of the tune.

Some influential alumni and major donors said they would stop supporting the university financially, particularly Longhorn athletics, if top leaders at the UT System’s flagship campus didn’t stand behind its alma mater song, "The Eyes of Texas," the Texas Tribune reported this week.
We'll start the article with the horrible part.
The song — which is sung to the tune of "I’ve Been Working on the Railroad" — was first played in a minstrel show with performers in blackface and connected to a saying from Confederate Army Commander Robert E. Lee.
There you have it!
"Remember, the eyes of the South are upon you," Lee would tell students in Virginia.
That's pretty close to "The Eyes of Texas Are Upon You".
One donor who graduated in 1986 wrote to university President saying it was time for him to "put the foot down" and make clear "that the heritage of Texas will not be lost," according to the Tribune.
Dream on, sonny, it's gonna get CANCELLED!
"It is sad that it is offending the blacks," the donor wrote in the email. "As I said before the blacks are free and it’s time for them to move on to another state where everything is in their favor."
Perhaps not the most tasteful way to say it, but those words are not in the song.
Such emails were shocking to many students and alumni, some of whom weren’t aware of the song’s origin until this year. But others said the language used by some donors didn’t surprise them.
Deplorable racists!
"There's long been the ‘Shut up and dribble' argument," said a UT track athlete from Dallas. "So it's very similar to that, in which these donors aren't quite as aware of the difficulties that a lot of people of color on our campus are facing."
I imagine your list of grievances is lengthy.
The executive director of the alumni association Texas Exes, says he fervently hopes those threatening donor emails do not represent the opinions of the vast majority of graduates, some of whom are struggling with the complicated history of the song.
Which is outlined above - performed many years ago in blackface, with a possible hat tip to Robert E. Lee.
