Trump Attorney Michael van der Veen Smashes Media
[Red State] When he was specifically asked whether he was surprised to hear such a serious rebuke from the leader of the Republican party in the Senate, van der Veen’s expression, tone, and words said it all.

"I’m not surprised to hear a politician say anything at all. No."

The CBS News anchor, Lana Zak, wasn’t quite sure what to make of the reply. She decided to move forward and attempt to "gotcha" van der Veen, and it doesn’t go well for her at all.

"...you seemingly admitted that there was, in fact, an insurrection..."

"No, you didn’t understand the case. I used the word "insurrection" in my closing argument when quoting the charging documents."

"What happened at the Capitol on January 6th is absolutely horrific, but what happened at the Capitol during this trial was not too far away from that."

"The prosecutors in this case doctored evidence. They did not investigate this case, and when they had to come to the court, or the Senate, to put their case on, because they hadn’t done any investigation, they doctored evidence. It was absolutely shocking...."
But not shocking for the CBS Newshound. She pooh-poohed it.
"It’s not okay to doctor a little bit of evidence. The media has to start telling the right story in this country. The media is trying to divide this country. You are bloodthirsty for ratings, and as such, you’re asking questions now that are already set up with a fact pattern. I can’t believe you would ask me a question indicating that it’s alright just to doctor a little bit of evidence. There’s more stuff we uncovered that they doctored, to be frank with you, and maybe that will come out someday."

"The media should be looking at that in a square, straight way. When I watch one news, I watch one station and it’s raining. I watch another station at the same time and it’s sunny. Your coverage is so slanted. It’s gotta stop. You guys have to stop and start reporting more like PBS does rather than a TV news show that doesn’t have any journalistic integrity at all. What I’m telling you is that they doctored evidence, and I believe your question says that it’s only a Twitter check here and changing a date there...."

"The media shouldn't be letting them get away with it, either. I'm tired of the biased media on both sides, left and right. What this country wants, what this country needs, is this country to come together, to take the left and the right and find a middle ground and start responsibly being our public officials, our elected officials…."
I didn't watch the video; the text is enough.

#1  I had fussed the other day about the Trump defense team, but this guy is exactly who you won't want to see on the other side of the courtroom. He was polished enough to get the message across clearly, to say the least, but not so polished as to seem slick. Look at the timing of his folds-arms gesture. And he make the false-in-one-thing-false-in-all-things argument very effectively but without using Latin. The CBS prettyface is going to be in therapy for years.

Flashback To March 2020: Cassidy Welcomes Trump Endorsement
Bill Cassidy: The friend who is aways around when he needs you.
[LouisianaRadioNetwork] President Donald Trump endorses Senator Bill Cassidy’s reelection effort.

Cassidy says the President offered the endorsement some time back and said he would publicly announce it when the Senator was ready. Cassidy says he’s become a close ally to the President over the past few years.

"You may have heard at the press conference after the impeachment trial that he identified me as the person he leans on when it comes to healthcare issues, and I’m working very closely with Ivanka Trump on the paid family leave program," says Cassidy.

Cassidy is heavily favored to win reelection, particularly as he shares a ballot with President Trump in November who is expected to handily win the state.
Definitely a seedy politician.

Full investigation into Jan. 6 Capitol attack needed: GOP Sen. Bill Cassidy
[ABC] Former President Donald Trump's actions fit the definition of insurrection, Sen. Bill Cassidy, R- La., who crossed party lines by voting to convict Trump, told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos Sunday on "This Week."
Because a true conservative Republican goes to...George Stephy(?) to express their convictions...riiiight. Man, I was sure wrong on this guy
"I listened very carefully to all the arguments. But if you describe insurrection as I did, as an attempt to prevent the peaceful transfer of power, we can see the president for two months after the election, promoting that the election was stolen," Cassidy said.

"It was clear that he wished that lawmakers be intimidated. And even after he knew there was violence taking place, he continued to basically sanction the mob being there, and not until later that he actually asked him to leave all of that points to a motive, and a method. And that is wrong, he should be held accountable," he added.

Cassidy signaled early in the week that he may vote to convict the former president by voting in favor of proceeding with the impeachment trial. The Louisiana GOP voted to censure Cassidy just hours after he voted to convict Trump. Cassidy defended his stance to constituents in Louisiana, telling Stephanopoulos that he took an oath to uphold the Constitution.

He told Stephanopoulos he had the ability to spend the week listening to the evidence brought forward by the House impeachment managers.

"I had the privilege of having the facts before me, and being able to spend several days, deeply going into those facts as these facts become more and more out there, if you will, and folks have a chance to look for themselves, more folks will move to where I was," Cassidy said.

"People want to trust. They want to trust their leaders, they want people to be held accountable. Now, we are holding -- I'm attempting to hold President Trump accountable -- and that is the trust I have from the people that elected me, and I am very confident that as time passes, people will move to that position."

Stephanopoulos pressed Cassidy on Trump's future within the Republican Party.

McConnell unloads on Trump: 'Morally responsible' for provoking mob
[The Hill] Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Saturday unleashed blistering criticism of former President Trump, blaming him for sparking the attack on the Capitol while also explaining why he didn't vote for a conviction.

McConnell also suggested that Trump could face criminal prosecution for his actions.

"There's no question, none, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day. No question about it. The people that stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their president," McConnell said.

"And having that belief was a foreseeable consequence of the growing crescendo of false statements, conspiracy theories and reckless hyperbole, which the defeated president kept shouting into the largest megaphone on the Earth," McConnell added.

McConnell's remarks came after the Senate fell short of the 67 votes needed to convict Trump. Though McConnell voted to acquit him, arguing it fell outside the Senate's jurisdiction, his remarks are a stinging rebuke of Trump's actions and rhetoric.

[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Furious Nancy Pelosi crashes press conference to tear into Mitch McConnell, rage at 'cowardly' Republican senators who voted to acquit Trump and shut down censure as a 'slap in the face' after Democrats fell 10 votes short of 67 needed to convict
  • An animated and furious Nancy Pelosi crashed House impeachment managers' post-trial press conference in a rage

  • She lashed out at Mitch McConnell and called Republicans 'cowardly' for voting to stop Donald Trump from being convicted for 'incitement of insurrection'

  • 'It had not been my intention to come to this press availability,' Pelosi said

  • 'But what we saw today was a cowardly group of Republicans who apparently have no options because they were afraid to... respect [Congress]'

#17  Had the impeachment began to call witnesses, she could have easily been called to testify. Two of the obvious questions could have been:

1. Speaker Pelosi: Were you informed and did you have knowledge of the possibility of a capital building attack prior to the 6th of Februaray ?

2. Speaker Pelosi: By whom were you informed and what actions did you take ?

Obvious points of inquiry anyone might guess, even without a script. Refusing to testify however (for whatever reason) might have been a far more damning signal. Perhaps someone very wisely decided not to go there.

Biden on Trump's acquittal: 'Substance of trial not in dispute'
[JPost] Perhaps you could sit down and explain it to us, without your puppeteers and handlers?
US President Joe Biden released a statement following Donald Trump's acquittal at the Senate's impeachment trial, saying that the substance of the trial is still not in dispute.

He added that he thought of those who stood guard at the Capitol during the January 6 riot, including those who lost their lives.

"This sad chapter in our history has reminded us that democracy is fragile," Biden said.
"As am I. Can I have my pudding, now?"

The Biden campaign is proud to announce that it's invented a lifelike Joe Biden robot with the help of a Chinese A.I. company. The six-foot-tall "Biden 2.0" model is equipped with an integrated memory circuit that will store data and — you guessed it! — hold memory.

A DNC spokesperson praised the new Biden brain, explaining that this time around, the chip will not hold its memory temporarily, in the same way your standard random-access memory (RAM) would. Instead, the Biden 2.0 will process and store all data in permanent, read-only memory (ROM) fashion.

The Biden robot's data will be continually updated with direct input from DNC intelligence, whether it be new hoaxes in addition to the "fine people hoax" or preparatory debate questions from friendly reporters. Of course, the 2.0 model will have intense firewalling to shield against any Russian interference that could modify policy formation.

Biden White House Plan to Keep Occupying Troops in DC Through End of Year
[Gateway...I know, but quoting a MSM source] This is beginning to look like an illegitimate government coup, amirite? The Biden National Security Council is planning on having National Guard troops continue to occupy the nation’s capital through the end of the year, according to a report by WTTG-TV Fox 5 in Washington, D.C. Additionally, active duty and reserve troops are being considered for deployment.

The current authorized deployment of 7,000 National Guard troops in D.C. runs through March 12, coming in at a cost of nearly half-a-billion dollars since the January 6 riot at the Capitol. Guard deployment topped out at around 25,000 during the Biden inauguration.

Stars and Stripes reported this week that an indefinite deployment of 5,000 Guard troops is planned for after March 12.

"Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has approved a plan to retain 7,000 National Guard soldiers and airmen in Washington through March 12 and then 5,000 indefinitely beyond that date, Army and National Guard officials have said. There are now about 6,200 National Guard soldiers and airmen supporting the security mission in Washington, a Guard spokesman said Monday. But the number includes some troops who are scheduled to leave soon."

#1  Just put a wall and barbed wire around DC's key governmental buildings and bury mines in the streets. Cheaper that way.

#6  Make the Democrats to produce EVIDENCE of the long term need for more troops than were in Baghdad.

This is smelling more and more like a coup. The Posse Comitatus Act of 1879 should be enforced, and they must answer for why they are breaking the law.

Whoever, except in cases and under circumstances expressly authorized by the Constitution or Act of Congress, willfully uses any part of the Army or the Air Force as a posse comitatus or otherwise to execute the laws shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both. 18 U.S.C. § 1385.

....Being but a Wing Wiper of Very Little Brain, I'm at a loss to understand why this misbegotten deployment is costing north of five hundred billion dollars.

For starters, it should ONLY be DC guard there, though one can make a reasonable case for including MD and VA as well. Instead, units from nearly all states are there and that, quite frankly, is Male Bovine Scatalogical Material and needs to be called out as such.

Secondly, there are LOTS of places in the immediate area that the guys can be billeted using military resources - the Mall, at least two sports stadiums, two Air Force bases, and one Navy Base. (The Marines at 8th and I would probably have something to say about it, and it wouldn't be pleasant.) Oh, wait - if we did that, it would inconvenience people, and we can't have that.

#12  They'll need troops and lots of them, to enforce EO changes to the 2nd Amendment and they know it. Just getting us accustomed to the 'new norm' of martial law.

If a policeman refuses to confiscate your shotgun (participates in selective enforcement), he is fired and finds work elsewhere.

If a soldier refuses to confiscate your shotgun (refuses to comply with an order), he goes to Leavenworth.

#13  All-in fully loaded cost of prob'y $300/day per guardsman
* 7,000 guardsmen = ~$2.1m/day
* ~200 days = $420m

Add in another $70-$80m to account for 7 days @25,000 guardsmen after the CapHill brouhaha and there's your half-billion

#17  In one of the previous cycles of violence from Peking to Taiwan... Taiwan pulled out their Bamboo Gang card.
It turned out some of the premier guards of the top CCP leaders in their homes in the CCP leadership walled community in Peking were both revered CCP trusted communist guards and deeply embedded Bamboo Gang agents. They murdered a couple of top CCP people they were supposed to be protecting and quietly slipped out of the country. This was likely through Burma where one of the old KMT armies was still hanging out as a drug gang.
If the thugs in the CCP couldn't protect themselves at home what in the hell are the Democrats in D.C. drinking to think that they can hunker down behind force if things go south?

#18  The Bamboo Gangs were an arm of the KMT army/drug barons in Burma. Since the halt in the civil war if somebody outside China wanted to get mail or money to relatives in China the Bamboo Gangs were a secure functional way to do so.

#22  Title 32 vs Title 10. Guard troops in the former are exempt from the provisions of Posse Comitatus since they are under the command and control of their respective Governors and fherefore state forces paid by the federal government. The key is the Governor, not the SecDef or President has command Authority. My guess is Red State Governor have pulled back fheir folks.
