-Lurid Crime Tales-
Convicted former Penn Congressman Chaka Fattah quietly released from prison
[Hot Air] Here’s a name that’s something of a blast from the past. Those of you who have been following political corruption stories for a while will likely recall the tale of former Pennsylvania Congressman Chaka Fattah. It’s been a while since his name has been in the news. In fact, the last time I wrote about him was back in December of 2016 when he was sentenced to the longest stretch in prison of any member of Congress in the history of the country. Fattah was given a ten-year sentence for stealing millions of dollars in both taxpayer money and funds designated for charitable causes. He was only halfway through his time in the crowbar motel, but this week he was quietly released from the slammer with no explanation being given for this generous maneuver by the federal Bureau of Prisons. Illinois' Democratic Speaker of the House implicated in massive bribery scandal
[Blaze] Mike Madigan, whose party/Chicago machine have always been crooked
Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan (D) has been implicated in a massive bribery scandal involving utility company ComEd, and Illinois' Democratic governor J.B. Pritzker has stated that Madigan "must resign" if the allegations against him are true. Madigan strongly denies any wrongdoing.

Federal prosecutors revealed last week that ComEd had agreed to pay $200 million to resolve the criminal case against them, in which they are accused of having arranged for jobs and vendor contracts for a person identified in charging documents as "public official A" in order to help get rate increases more quickly approved by the Illinois legislature. In the plea documents, ComEd admitted to having effectively bribed this official in exchange for more favorable treatment from the Illinois legislature.

Although Madigan is not mentioned by name in the charging documents, the evidence is overwhelming that Madigan is the target of the investigation, which prosecutors described as "vibrant" and ongoing.

Madigan seemingly confirmed this through a spokesperson on Friday. The spokesperson admitted that Madigan's office had received subpoenas for documents from federal investigators, and vowed, "He will cooperate and respond to those requests for documents, which he believes will clearly demonstrate that he has done nothing criminal or improper."

WBEZ-TV also reported that feds have subpoenaed records from AT&T, Walgreens, Rush University Medical Center and "a host of political operatives and lobbyists," indicating that their investigation into possible corruption in the Illinois legislature is likely much wider than has already been indicated. According to WBEZ, investigators have also subpoenaed record pertaining to Madigan's law firm, "four former state lawmakers, four former or current Chicago alderman and a Chinatown land deal that was a cornerstone of a federal corruption probe that brought down former Ald. Danny Solis."

Commenting on the investigation, Pritzker said, "The speaker has a lot that he needs to answer for to authorities, to investigators, and most importantly, to the people of Illinois."

#4  This ought to be interesting. Madigan is the most politically powerful man in the state as he also controls the Democratic Party in Illinois.

Way more so than Jelly Belly (J.B.) Pritzker.

I can't speak for ComEd, but it's the way major utilities and businesses in Illinois have played the game with the politicos for well over 100 years.

#5  Chris Wallace Is Wrong, Joe Biden Does Want to Defund the Police
“It’s gotten totally out of control and it’s really because they want to defund the police, and Biden wants to defund the police,” Trump said in the clip.
“Sir, he does not,” Wallace shot back.
I don’t doubt the “unity charter” between Biden and Sanders makes no written statement about defunding the police. But here’s the problem with Chris Wallace’s fact-check: it’s still wrong.

Joe Biden, absolutely, one-hundred percent, no doubt about it, called for the defunding of police. In fact, it happened just over a week ago -
Joe Biden says “Yes, absolutely!" to “redirecting” police funding and calls them “the enemy.”

#7  Ah, a Hot Air link.

From the ABC site:

While views are similar among registered voters, Biden loses ground on three of these items among those who are likeliest to vote.

Also:

Methodology

This ABC News/Washington Post poll was conducted by landline and cellular telephone July 12-15, 2020, in English and Spanish, among a random national sample of 1,006 adults, including 845 registered voters. Results have a margin of sampling error of 3.5 points for the full sample and 4.0 points among registered voters, including design effects. Partisan divisions are 30-24-39%, Democrats-Republicans-independents.

So, less than a quarter of the participants were avowed Republican.

I guess it's possible that GOP registration is actually down to that percentage, but what are the odds?

Nice try, though.

Anti-Trump Lincoln Project Blasted for Funneling Donations to Its Founders
The Lid via Instapundit
...The Lincoln Project, a political group comprised of Republicans who oppose the reelection of President Donald Trump

...Since its launch, the Lincoln Projected has raised more than $19 million, with most of the money ($16.8 million) coming in over the last three months.

...Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings made public on Wednesday grant an inside view of how the Never Trump organization has operated in its first six months of existence.

The filings indicate that the Lincoln Project’s biggest vendors, Summit Strategic Communications, LLC, and Tusk Digital, Inc., are owned by two of its board members.

#1  Six More Billionaires Donate To The Anti-Trump Lincoln Project
Six more billionaires recently donated to the Lincoln Project, a Republican-led super-PAC doing its best to defeat Donald Trump in November.

The largest donor, supplying $1 million, was billionaire hedge fund manager Stephen Mandel Jr., founder of Lone Pine Capital, according to Federal Election Commission filings released Wednesday.

Other supporters include Hollywood billionaire David Geffen (who donated $100,000), Boston media magnate Amos Hostetter Jr. ($100,000) and Silicon Valley investors Michael Moritz ($50,000) and Chris Sacca ($10,000). Martha Karsh, who is married to private equity billionaire Bruce Karsh, gave $50,000.

This group of donors is following in the footsteps of Walmart heiress Christy Walton, who gave $20,000 to the Lincoln Project in January. Apparently pleased with her investment, she contributed another $10,000 in May. All of the donors except Walton have also contributed to Joe Biden’s presidential campaign or a super-PAC supporting the former vice president.

ACLU and Oregon Sue to STOP Trump From Arresting Antifa/BLM Rioters in Portland
[PJ] Oregon officials have claimed a side. They’ve chosen the violent rioters of antifa and Black Lives Matter over the civil rights interests of citizens of the City of Portland.

The state of Oregon and the ACLU have filed lawsuits demanding the Trump administration from arresting and questioning the violent antifa and Black Lives Matter terrorists who have conducted nightly riots for the last 50 nights.

Riven by the more than six weeks of nightly rioting, the Trump administration sent federal police from several different agencies to defend the federal courthouse in downtown Portland. In one wild night, federal police officers from the Department of Homeland Security, Border Patrol, and other agencies battled antifa terrorists lobbing IEDs, rocks, and bottles and shining lasers in the eyes of officers. Police battled for six hours to keep the terrorists from getting inside the glass door they’d earlier shattered.

Reportedly starting July 14, the federal officers have stopped and questioned suspected black bloc-attired antifa militants in the middle of the night. They attempted to set up yet another "autonomous zone" right across the street from the federal courthouse.

Prosecutor John Durham reveals the report into 'spying' on Trump's campaign will be released by the end of summer and says: 'The American people deserve to hear this story'
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • John Durham was chosen by Attorney General William Barr to lead a review into the Russia investigation

  • U.S. Attorney John Durham is under pressure to wrap up his investigation into the origins of the Russia probe by the end of the summer

  • If he fails to complete by September he may wait to reveal his findings or initiate prosecutions until after the 2020 presidential election

  • Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation yielded no evidence of criminal conspiracy or coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian officials

  • After Mueller’s investigation, Barr appointed Durham to investigate origins of the FBI’s original Russia probe, which began in July 2016

Minnesota House Democrats seek $168M to help businesses damaged in rioting
[STARTRIBUNE] While the Trump administration turned down a request to help rebuild the Twin Cities after the riots sparked by the police killing of George Floyd, Minnesota House Democrats are pressing for nearly $168 million in state dollars to help businesses and nonprofits damaged during the civil unrest. But so far the GOP-led Senate hasn’t matched that effort in a special session that’s expected to wrap up in a few days.

Democrats and Republicans said during a committee hearing Friday they want to help communities where property was destroyed. But Rep. Barb Haley, R-Red Wing, said Republicans are concerned about using general fund dollars while there’s a looming budget deficit. They also want grants to go directly to businesses, as opposed to giving the money to Minneapolis and St. Paul, she said.

The immediate relief program the DFL-led House wants is one piece of a broader $300 million PROMISE Act aimed at rebuilding the Twin Cities’ riot-damaged commercial corridors.

Rep. Mohamud Noor, DFL-Minneapolis, said he is glad community members and foundations are donating to help businesses rebuild, but more assistance is crucial.

He plans to keep fighting for state money in future sessions — whether through the general fund or other sources: "We’re going to come back again and again until we get something done."

James Murdoch, Wife Give $1.23 Million to Biden Campaign
[Breitbart] James Murdoch, the son of billionaire and Fox Corporation founder Rupert Murdoch, and his wife Kathryn have donated $1.23 million to former Vice President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, according to filings.

New York Times reporter Kenneth Vogel, citing Federal Election Commission (FEC) receipts, first highlighted James and Kathryn Murdoch gave $615,000 each last month to the Biden Victory Fund, a joint fundraising effort between the Biden campaign, the Democrat National Committee (DNC), and state parties.

Murdoch, previously CEO of 21st Century Fox, is known as a political centrist compared to his more conservative brother, Lachlan Murdoch. Since departing the Fox empire in March, Murdoch launched the investment group Lupa Systems.
