-Lurid Crime Tales-
Woman Pleads Guilty to Beating Child to Death for Eating Cupcake
[BREITBART] A woman pleaded guilty in December to fatally beating a child after he took a cupcake from her kitchen in Atlanta, Georgia.

On October 21, 2017, LaShirley Morris beat the three-year-old boy, Kejuan Mason, with a baseball bat as punishment for eating the cupcake, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

A child inside the home witnessed the attack, according to a Division of Family and Children Services report. Her sister, Glenndria Morris, was also charged in Mason’s death because she did not intervene during the fatal beating. Her case is still pending, the Fulton DA’s office said.

Kejuan lived with Glenndria Morris, who was also his legal guardian at the time of the alleged killing.

"Police were later called to the ’roach-infested’ home in southwest Atlanta after a 911 call that said he wasn’t breathing. Paramedics arrived and performed CPR, but the child died at the hospital," according to 11 Alive.

Following the incident, the two sisters reportedly claimed the boy had choked on the cupcake, resulting in his death.

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office said Kejuan had bruises all over his body and that he died of blunt force trauma.

"A copy of LaShirley Morris’ final disposition says she pleaded guilty to murder, two felony murder counts, aggravated assault, cruelty to children in the first degree and cruelty to children in the third degree," the report stated.

First openly gay fed judge Deborah Batts, set to preside over Michael Avenatti's trial for stealing money from Stormy Daniels, dead at 72
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • US District Judge Deborah Batts passed away on Sunday from unknown cause

  • Last fall, she set Michael Avenatti's embezzlement trial for April 21

  • Batts, a Harvard Law School graduate, was appointed to the US District Court for the Southern District of New York in 1994 by President Bill Clinton

  • She became the first openly gay person to sit on the federal bench
'Deborah Batts was a trailblazer in every respect: an openly gay African-American woman who became a United States District Judge after a distinguished career as a federal prosecutor and law professor,' Manhattan federal Chief Judge Colleen McMahon said in a statement.

Mark Steyn - Rooting for Rush
[Steyn on Line] As millions of listeners heard just before 3pm Eastern on Monday, Rush Limbaugh has been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. So, for the worst of all reasons, I'll be back behind the Golden EIB Microphone Tuesday at noon Eastern/3pm Pacific, while Rush and his doctors work out a treatment plan.

This is terrible news for Rush and Kathryn, but also tough on his audience and for American conservatism. Many radio and TV shows addressed Rush's characteristically honest announcement, among them Monday's edition of "Tucker Carlson Tonight". Click below to watch:

We bought a crumbling French château - but restoring it was no fairytale
[The Telegraph] Like many others, when Dick Strawbridge and his wife, Angel Adoree, decided to uproot from England with their young family and move to France for la belle vie, they envisaged a modest farmhouse, perhaps a simple gîte. However, 45 rooms, 78 windows, 12 acres, one moat and 10 exhausting months later, they are the owners of a beautiful château, a five-floor home in Pays de la Loire, 10 times the size of your average British house ‐ all for the unbelievable figure of £280,000.

But like most fairy tales, there was a catch. This château came with no electricity, heating or water, a sanitation system that emptied into the moat ‐ not to mention hundreds of dead flies, bats (very much alive) and lavatories that hadn’t been flushed for 40 years. It would take a person with sizeable enthusiasm and energy to take on a restoration challenge like that and come out the other side smiling.

Luckily, Strawbridge has form. The retired Lieutenant Colonel first appeared on our screens as a plucky and resourceful contestant on the Channel 4 series Scrapheap Challenge (he went on to present the programme), before starring in three series of BBC Two’s It’s Not Easy Being Green in the mid-Noughties, about his struggles to live an ecologically friendly, low-impact life, with first wife Brigit and their teenage children. His latest project has required every ounce of his gung-ho spirit.

"People talk about going off and having their adventure and we’ve just done it," says the 56-year-old. "We’ve got wild boar in our forest, deer wandering around the front, kingfishers and red squirrels. It’s all pretty special. We do pinch ourselves that it is a bit ridiculous. But we made a choice to not live within the M25." The couple had spent four years searching for the perfect place to bring up their family, Arthur, three, and Dorothy, two. "They are now growing up in a place where if they play hide and seek, they may never find each other," Dick says.

#4  That's quite the 'contractor's special'. There's a house three spots / 150 feet away from mine, and they paid top dollar for a house they more or less had to nuke. It's taken them over a year (they're on the last stretch this & next month) and I bet they've spent at least $200K so far.

At least they don't have live bats to deal with!

#5  What a vanity project. Other than the family of four, which might together use as many as a dozen rooms, what use is the rest of it? Do they rent it out for period television shows and films? Provide space for weddings and company retreats? Have potluck weekends with 140 of their dearest friends, but only if they each bring a 12-roll package of toilet paper? And, most importantly, who is going to do the housekeeping and grounds work originally intended for a full inside and outside staff?

#12  ^ that's the order of magnitude I was thinking, TW.

I used to dream of doing this, too, but when I consulted people who'd actually renovated chateaux before they said forget it, it would be less expensive to build a new one.

So figure $400 per sq ft or maybe €4,000 per square meter: that's easily >$10 million for a typical castle.

#12  If Ma Peyote finished second, that would indeed represent a huge achievement and a major turn in the race.

Remember, this guy has never held ANY national office. He has no executive experience at all beyond heading up a shitty little college town.

Who the f--- would want to be mayor of South Bend Indiana?

Is this a joke?

In addition this guy has achieved nothing, literally nothing, of consequence beyond competing for meritocracy prizes that, in these days, are awarded to overly-ambitious identity-politics brown-nosers: Harvard College admission, Rhodes Scholarship.

In short if Iowa shows that the best the Dems have is an old scarecrow who's achieved zilch in 50 years in backwater/backbencher politics and a young whippersnapper who's achieved zilch in a couple years in backwater local politics, the Dems are toast in November.

THAT'S why the caucus tallies are being delayed. Of course they know the results now.

#14  These SS Clowns are so dishonest, they can't even tell each other the truth.

Biden's getting his arse kicked. The Dem's own voters know he's a corrupt old clown.

So now the ringmasters of the Dems' Shitshow are left with a nobody mayor of a ghetto college town, a crusty old Lenin impersonator, and a gazillionaire anti-2A hypocrite surrounded by his private mini-army and flooding the zone with over $200 million dropped from his Gulfstream.

In Christopher Hitchens' immortal phrase, the Dems' leaders have no one left to lie to.

Their own rank and file know the jig's up. They're f---ed for November.

#15  Giggle. From Politico: "Total Meltdown."

Cue the Looney Tunes music - note the use of ironic quotation marks to describe the results of The Most Important Prinary in The Most Inportant Election aimed at Saving The Republic from Genghis Mussolini of Orange:

The biggest "winner" might have been Joe Biden. ... According to the Iowa entrance poll, he was hovering close to the viability threshold of 15 percent statewide

Huh?? You mean to say, "viability threshold" = "winner"? Whiskey Tango...?? Oh I get it. The quote marks around winner signify a JOKE.

The former vice president, facing potentially ugly headlines going into New Hampshire and beyond, couldn't get out of Iowa fast enough. “We’re going to walk out of here with our share of delegates,” Biden declared to a packed room on the Drake University campus. “It’s on to New Hampshire!”

eebidda-eeb-da-eeb, THAT'S ALL, FOLKS!

But wait ... there's more! (The Shitshow always has more). These are the geniuses who presume to lecture the nation on the sacred procedures of American democracy:

Democratic campaigns grew more furious as the night wore on with no word. During the first call between officials from the campaigns and the state party, the party “hung up on campaigns” when pressed for a release time, an aide to one of the candidates said.

They are matching the paper worksheets by hand,an adviser to one of the top tier campaigns said. The party said only 35 percent of the results were in and none of it was yet verified. “They literally have no verified results right now so we won’t know anything until sometime Tuesday.”

What right do these mendacious clowns have to govern anything?

Who the f--- are these morons?

What did we the people do to deserve them?

This article does not mention Mook, but other Hillary and Obama alumnus:
Caucus app blamed for Iowa vote count chaos was created by tech firm Shadow, Inc. that is run by staff from Hillary Clinton and Obama's campaigns

The app was created by Shadow, Inc., a technology firm that was created in January last year after data and messaging service Groundbase was acquired by Democrat non-profit ACRONYM.

Finance records show the Iowa Democratic Party paid $60,000 to Shadow, Inc. for website development at the back end of last year which was spent on the app, according to Huffington Post.

Shadow's CEO Gerard Niemira, product manager Ahna Rao and COO James Hickey all worked on the Hillary for America campaign which was defeated by Donald Trump in 2016.

Other staff include alumni of Obama's presidential campaign, as well as Google, Apple and former DNC staffers.

Sanders appeared to do well among these groups, including at the Muslim Community Organization in Des Moines, where Sanders won 99 percent of caucusgoers, turning out 115 people to one or two people for other candidates.

At a Latino caucus site, Sanders won 94 percent, according to one report. At the first satellite caucus, at a union hall in Ottumwa, Sanders won the backing of 14 out of 15 caucus-goers, many of them of Ethiopian origin or descent.

#36  ^ well, they do have a good idea because each of these tiny grouplets gathers in person. They do a physical/actual head count, and then they reassemble to assign the losers' votes to the various winners in the first round.

Various caucus leaders have already taken to Twitter to report their actual head counts... one of them, in Story (County?), just posted his little caucus's results: 111 for B.S., 82 for Fauxcahontas and 47 for Buttfug. They have 6 delegates to apportion, which should have resulted in 3 for B.S., 2 for Faux., and 1 for Fug.

And yet the software system assigned 2 delegates to each!

They do indeed know who actually won.

They're just f---ing lying, as usual. This time they're staging a coup against one of their own.

Complete, utter, total Shitshow.

Thailand 'cures' coronavirus with anti-HIV drug cocktail in 48 hours,
[DailySabah] A Chinese woman infected with the new coronavirus showed a dramatic improvement after she was treated with a cocktail of anti-virals used to treat flu and HIV, Thailand's health ministry said Sunday.

The 71-year-old patient tested negative for the virus 48 hours after Thai doctors administered the combination, doctor Kriengsak Attipornwanich said during the ministry's daily press briefing.

"The lab result of positive on the coronavirus turned negative in 48 hours," Kriengsak said.

"From being exhausted before, she could sit up in bed 12 hours later."

The doctors combined the anti-flu drug oseltamivir with lopinavir and ritonavir, anti-virals used to treat HIV, Kriengsak said, adding the ministry was awaiting research results to prove the findings.

The news comes as the new virus claimed its first life outside China – a 44-year-old Chinese man who died in the Philippines – while the death toll in China has soared above 300.

FGM kills 12-year-old in Egypt as illegal practice resists eradication
[France24] The arrest of the parents of a 12-year-old Egyptian girl who died after undergoing genital mutilation and the doctor who performed the procedure highlight the difficulty of eradicating the increasingly medicalised felony practice.

A 12-year-old girl died in the Assiut governance of Upper Egypt last week due to complications she suffered after a retired doctor removed part of her genitals, a practice known as female genital mutilation (FGM), also sometimes referred to as female circumcision.

"The doctor tried to save her but she passed away," the public prosecutor’s office said in a statement issued late Thursday, vowing "firm action" against anyone carrying out the procedure in the future. The girl’s aunt was also detained.

FGM was outlawed in Egypt in 2008 and was upgraded to a felony in 2016 after a 17-year-old girl bled to death. The updated law mandates jail sentences of up to seven years for those who carry out the procedure and up to three years for anyone requesting it. Religious leaders have also said genital cutting is forbidden.

The government regularly runs public service campaigns to warn of the danger of FGM, but instead of curbing the practice the campaigns have prompted parents to turn to medical personnel to do it, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) said in November. "About 75 per cent of female genital mutilation in the country is performed by doctors," FGM expert Dr. Ayman Sadek said in the UNFPA statement.

The medicalisation of FGM brings with it a new set of challenges, lending the appearance of legitimacy and safety despite the practice having no medical benefits and significant risks‐including haemorrhage, chronic urinary problems and complications in childbirth.

Indeed, the girl in Assiut, whom local news sources identified as Nada Abdul Maksoud, underwent the procedure in a clinic where it was performed by a retired doctor.

Book review: Heaten & Lewis 'The Four-War Boer - The Century and Life of Pieter Arnoldus Krueler'
[Pages 54-55] Word of the British retreat (at Spion Kop) spread among the Boers, and Krueler heard the news from his wooden bed. They had won: Botha himself came and told him, and then the general looked at his wound: "Keep that clean to avoid infection. We will need you soon again young Peiter," and again the general rubbed his head. "Give me your letters, I will send a rider to at least one place. I have to send a man to Kimberley, where I believe your brother is."

Krueler nodded and handed over his bag of letters, to be included with the dozens of letters from many other men. Many of these men were now dead, their final words preserved for all time to family and friends who would never see them again. When Reitz came into the bunker he ordered one of the men to organize a burial detail. He then gave another order; British and Boer were to be buried separately, but all were to be interred with respect and reverence. They would all be buried as soldiers and the names registered, the graves recorded. The British wounded were to be given the same care as Boers, each wounded man treated according to his wound, and not his nationality or rank.

Krueler remarked about the apparent class distinction that pervaded the British Army. There was some disgruntlement among the British, one fellow in particular, who felt that rank above the severity of the would determined the order of treatment. I heard this myself. One of the older burghers simply said, 'and that is why you British will one day lose your empire,' and I always remember that comment, and the prediction that comment became.

Trump says U.S. has 'shut down' coronavirus threat; China shuns U.S. help
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States has taken decisive action to protect Americans from the threat of a fast-moving coronavirus while offering help to China, President Donald Trump said on Sunday, but a key adviser said Beijing had not accepted the offers of assistance.

Trump appeared to downplay concerns about the impact in the United States of the flu-like virus that has killed 350 people in China and spread to more than two dozen countries, telling Fox television in an interview, "We’re gonna see what happens, but we did shut it down, yes."

Concerns about the virus spurred the United States to declare a public health emergency and bar entry to foreign nationals who have recently visited China.

Under new restrictions here that went into effect at 5 p.m. ET Sunday, U.S. citizens who have traveled in China within 14 days will be directed to one of eight airports designated for screening, with three more to be added Monday.

"We can’t have thousands of people coming in who may have this problem - the coronavirus," Trump told Fox during a short interview broadcast on Sunday. He said U.S. officials had offered China "tremendous help" in dealing with the epidemic.

Bold words if you ask me. I'm actually surprised that the West has only a few reported cases yet. China seems to apply radical measures now but these only go that far.

Once you have millions infected in China, border controls will no longer solve the problem given the fact that you can carry the virus symptom-free.

US Air Force's secretive $600 million B-21 Raider stealth bomber with blade-like wings designed for carrying out precise H-bomb strikes is revealed in new artist renderings
[MAIL] Artistic renders have revealed the US Air Force's top secret $600 million B-21 Raider stealth bomber.

The graphics, released by the US Air Force and manufacturer Northrop Grumman, show the B-21 Raider concept inserted into photos of three US hangars.

The long-range stealth bomber is expected to come into service in 2025 and will be capable of delivering conventional and theromonuclear weapons.

Thermonuclear bombs, or H-bombs, provide enormous explosive power resulting from chain reactions between isotopes of hydrogen under high temperatures.

The new aircraft will be able to drop thermonuclear bombs on surface targets with greater precision while avoiding detection.

Navy arms sea drones for ocean attack
[FOX] Armed surface drones at sea could surveil and attack enemy targets, conduct forward reconnaissance on enemy positions and provide human decision-makers with combat essential command and control data -- all as part of massive, great power war on the open seas.

Maritime drones can have both offensive and defensive uses, all while keeping sailors and surface ships at safer standoff ranges. Navy strategies see them operating in coordinated groups of drone boats networking vital war information between surface, air and even undersea regions across wide-spanning segments of ocean. Such missions are fast being increasingly enabled by advances in autonomy, fortified by computer algorithms performing a growing number of procedural functions historically done by humans. Of course, developers are quick to emphasize that, regardless of advances in autonomy, current doctrine requires that human decision-makers remain "in the loop" when it comes to making decisions about attacking with lethal force.

Naturally, enabling these kinds of technical advances are part of a massive strategic shift for the Navy as it pivots its attack concepts to incorporate an expanded fleet of surface and undersea drones. The initiative, as described by Capt. Pete Small, program executive officer, Unmanned Systems, includes new levels of autonomy, advanced command and control, emerging software and various weapons configurations. Speaking in January at the 32nd annual Surface Navy Association Symposium, Small said many of these efforts to advance autonomy at sea are part of an emerging Navy program called Unmanned Maritime Autonomy Architecture.

#1  As communications and networking technologies continue to evolve rapidly, drones will increasingly be able to function in a cross-domain capacity, meaning across air, sea, land and undersea operations. A human at a control station, using a low bandwidth connection, can perform command and control functions without needing to actually drive the vessels. Small elaborated upon this, explaining that the Navy’s evolving surface and undersea command and control technology - will integrate with air platforms developed by Naval Air Systems Command
