[DAWN] LANDI KOTAL: Trade between Pakistain and Afghanistan via Torkham border was resumed on Tuesday after lengthy negotiations between the customs officials and local custom clearing agents for two consecutive days.

There was no official word about the conclusion of talks from the office of Torkham assistant collector customs, however, the local traders and custom clearing agents, who participated in the negotiations, told Dawn that goods clearance was restarted on the previous method of examination of more than one loaded vehicle by just one Goods Deceleration (GD) form.

They said that custom officials granted them permission of continuing previous method on the condition that the new mechanism of one GD form for just one vehicle would be implemented a week after Eidul Fitr.

Crisis Group Urges 'Dialogue' between Mali Government, Jihadists
[AnNahar] Mali's government should consider "dialogue" with jihadists waging an insurgency in the west African state, the International Crisis Group (ICG) think tank suggested Tuesday, an idea promptly rejected by Bamako.

The idea of talking to jihadists may seem ludicrous to some, said the ICG, but insisted all avenues should be explored to protect civilians reeling from inter-communal violence in central Mali, fuelled by the Islamist revolt.

In a report, the ICG did not suggest halting military operations against Katiba Macina, the gang of radical Islamist preacher Amadou Koufa behind a four-year-old insurgency.

MWL publishes ‘Mecca Document’ encouraging tolerance in Muslim societies
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Moslem World League (MWL) has published a document on Wednesday that concludes the sessions of the "Mecca Document Conference," aiming to achieve peace between different elements of the Moslem society, two days before the Islamic Summit.

The seven-page long document has 29 different Islamic principles accompanied with instructions of tolerance and equality while repelling hate preachers and any sect considering the other "inferior".

The first page of the document stresses the importance of its issuance from Mecca, the holiest city in Islam and the direction of prayer for more than 1.6 billion Moslems around the world.

"Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...
is a result of not truly knowing Islam... to truly know Islam, one needs objectivity and getting rid of judgments," the document says addressing the trendy fear or hatred of Islam.

The document rejects the interferences in the affairs of other countries "especially through aiming for political dominance, economic greediness, or encouraging sectarian ideologies."

It also addresses connecting a certain religion with the political practices of its followers, stressing on the fact that all three monotheistic religions are innocent of negative practices.

To eliminate causes of conflicts related to religion and culture, the document encourages enforcing laws that set back hate preachers and encouragers of violence and terrorism.

"It is everyone’s responsibility to counter terrorism and oppression and reject violating human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
," reads one of document’s 29 principles. The document also stresses on women’s rights in Islam, including in religious, scientific, political, and societal aspects, and discourages the wage gap between genders.

The document in concept is similar to one called "the Medina document" which was written in the time of Mohammed, the prophet of Islam. It was a constitutional document that aims to unify the principles of living and achieving peace between different elements of society.

Britain
UK Academic Sacked over Antisemitism, Holocaust Denial
[BREITBART] A science lecturer at the UK’s University of Essex has lost his job after an antisemitism fight sparked by the formation of a campus Jewish society.

Concerns were raised at the university over Facebook posts ‐ since deleted ‐ by Dr Maaruf Ali which were alleged to have included Holocaust denial, opposition to the creation of a Jewish society at the university in February and conspiracy theories about Zionism.

Dr Ali denied being anti-Semitic or denying the Holocaust and said his vote against the society had been against the ideology of Zionism.

The BBC reports he said: "I am not against Jews, I don’t hate their religion, their people or their culture.
"Such as it is"
"I believe that everyone should be allowed to form any society. This is what I’m thinking now ‐ which is what I didn’t think at the time."
"I'm all better now"
He added that he was objecting to the climate in present day Israel and had never asked for the destruction of the state of Israel.
"Don't fire me"
A University of Essex statement confirmed a member of staff had been dismissed following a tribunal hearing.

"The university has now completed an independent investigation into the serious allegations made against a member of university staff," it added.

Facebook Removes Iranian-Linked Accounts, Citing ‘Inauthentic Behavior’
[Jpost] Facebook announced on Tuesday that it removed 51 accounts, 36 pages, seven groups and three Instagram accounts linked to Iran for "coordinated inauthentic behavior."

The social-media company cited the cybersecurity company FireEye, issuing a report on "inauthentic social-media accounts posing as everyday Americans that were used to promote content from inauthentic news sites."

In February, Facebook 783 deleted "inauthentic" pages, groups and accounts tied to Iran designed to manipulate users in more than 20 countries, including Israel.
Update from Breitbart at 6:00 pm EDT:
Some of these accounts reportedly attempted to impersonate 2018 Republican congressional candidates.

Facebook began looking into this issue following a tip from the cybersecurity firm FireEye; this resulted in the removal of 51 bogus accounts, 36 pages which were followed by a total of 21,000 users, seven groups with 1,900 users in total, and three Instagram accounts with a combined follower account of 2,600 people. Twitter removed 2,800 accounts.

FireEye wrote in a blog post: "In addition to utilizing fake American personas that espoused both progressive and conservative political stances, some accounts impersonated real American individuals, including a handful of Republican political candidates that ran for House of Representatives seats in 2018."

The candidates impersonated included Marla Livengood who was beaten in the 9th district of California by Rep. Jerry McNerny (D-CA) and Jinea Butler who lost the race for New York’s 13th district to Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY) The report also claims that the accounts fooled U.S. and Israeli publications into publishing fake letters to the editor and blogs.

FireEye stated: “Personas in this network have also had material published in U.S. and Israeli media outlets, attempted to lobby journalists to cover specific topics, and appear to have orchestrated audio and video interviews with U.S. and UK-based individuals on political issues.”

Europe
Budapest Jews to establish their own security service amid anti-Semitism fears
God helps those who help themselves.
[IsraelTimes] A Hungarian Jewish organization that monitors and fights anti-Semitism on Wednesday said it was forming its own security service to patrol the historic Jewish quarter of the capital city Budapest.

"To prevent anti-Semitic atrocities, the Foundation for Action and Defense decided to create a kind of ’self-organized security service,’" the organization announced on its Facebook page.

Organization director Szalai Kálmán said the goal was to prevent "importing the plague of the anti-Semitism in north and west Europe" and do everything possible to ensure "Budapest does not become like some of the western cities," an apparent reference to the rise in anti-Semitic attacks in other European countries.

Known by its initials in Hungarian, the TEV was organized in 2012 to fight anti-Semitism in Hungary. The group monitors and reports incidents and acts as a central coordinating organizer for the Jewish community’s efforts to combat attacks against Jews.

György Szabó, head of the Jewish Heritage of Hungary Public Endowment board, told the Népszava news website that verbal attacks against Jews were a regular occurrence in the city’s 7th district, known as "Elizabethtown." Szabó said drunk tourists often hurl insults and shout "Heil Hitler" at Orthodox Jews who are identifiable by their head covering and appearance.

The Magyar Narancs news website said the TEV service is expected to be staffed by volunteers and work with law enforcement agencies.

A survey last year showed that two-thirds of Hungarian Jews believe anti-Semitism is a serious problem in their country.

Sweden Muslim Foundation Files Police Complaint After Mohammed Cartoons Discovered
[BREITBART] A Moslem organization in the Swedish city of Växjö have complained to local police after claiming to have found posters in an area of the city that caricatures the Moslem prophet, Mohammed.

Members of the Växjö Moslem Foundation made reports to the local police saying that they had discovered several posters depicting and insulting the prophet Mohammed in the Araby area of the city in Nydalavägen, Hjalmar Petris road and the Ulriksberg promenade, Swedish broadcaster Sveriges Radio reports.

Police front man Robert Loeffel labelled the posters as being offensive to the local Moslem community but did not divulge what was actually portrayed on the posters themselves. The police did say that they were considering the posters as a crime, describing it as hate against an ethnic group.

The Växjö Moslem Foundation came into prominence last year after they demanded the city grant them the right to publically broadcast the Islamic call to prayer on loudspeakers every Friday. "We are just wanting Sweden to allow Moslems in Växjö to feel even more at home. The Islamic community should be proud of their culture, and not feel like they have to hide," Imam Ismail Abu Helal said at the time.
"We just wanta make ourselves feel at home, bub. Know whudda mean?"

No concession for those taking law into their own hands: KP info minister on Waziristan clash
[DAWN] Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shaukat Ali Yousafzai on Wednesday said that the government was committed to compensating the residents of tribal areas who suffered immensely during the war against terrorism but that no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands and undo security forces' gains against terrorism

He was addressing a press conference in Peshawar regarding Sunday's deadly clash between Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) workers and Army troops near a military check post in North Waziristan tribal district.

Yousafzai said a "specific segment" desired that the armed forces vacate the tribal areas but that the troops are needed in the area to maintain peace that can support the government's rehabilitation efforts.

"I want to ask, if [some] local people have come out to protest, what purpose is PTM serving there? Or if some people have been arrested on suspicion of attacking the armed forces [...] why are they [PTM] demanding their release?" the minister questioned.

Iraqi PM downplays ISIS arson in recent crop fire surge
[Rudaw] Adil Abdul-Mahdi, the Iraqi prime minister, has downplayed the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS)’s role in the recent spate of crop fires in Iraq’s northern and central provinces, claiming on Tuesday they are rarely the deliberate work of forces of Evil but instead the result of electrical faults and the dry climate.

Speaking to news hounds in his weekly presser in Baghdad, Abdul-Mahdi attributed the recent fires in fields of wheat and barley just before their harvest to a host of reasons other than ISIS.

"We have fires every year. Not all fires are the work of ISIS or hostility...some of them are internal feuds between landowners, between farmers," the Iraqi PM said, using the Arabic acronym for ISIS.

The PM’s comments come after 600 dunams of cropland were burned over the course of May in Khanaqin district, Diyala province alone. Media outlets belonging to ISIS have claimed some of the attacks.

More cropland was burned earlier this month in Makhmour, a disputed area to the southwest of Erbil, after local farmers refused to give ISIS what they called zakat, a form of Islamic tax.

Disputed parts of Diyala, Nineveh, and Saladin governorates are claimed by both the Kurdistan Regional Government in Erbil and central Iraqi government in Baghdad. Militants are exploiting the resulting security gaps between federal and Peshmerga lines.

ISIS is not the only militarized body accused of arson. In fires that took place in Khanaqin, locals blamed the Shiite paramilitaries Hashd al-Shaabi (known in English as the Popular Mobilization Forces, or PMF). Locals there also claimed to have received calls demanding zakat.

Downplaying the amount of crops burned, the PM said: "The number [of fires] in Iraq remains humble compared to other countries."

"Fires always happen in the summer season, everywhere and every year."

He said the number and scale of the fires have been blown out of proportion by intensified media scrutiny. He called on news agencies to "go and investigate to see the areas that face the fires."

The government will nevertheless follow up on any "criminal" act that is reported concerning the issue and fires caused by electrical faults or cigarettes, he said. "We have complete numbers. Fires don’t just happen spontaneously without the awareness or follow up of the state."

A security analyst with a focus on Iraq and Syria who writes under the moniker Tom the Cat has published photos of what look like improvised incendiary devices being used to burn the crops.

ISIS was declared defeated in Iraq in December 2017, and later declared territorially defeated in Syria in March 2019, at the hands of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). As a result, they are now operating from "sleeper cells" and resorting to more disparate attacks, which have become increasingly frequent in recent weeks.

Since last Friday, ten people have been killed and ten more injured in bombings attributed to ISIS in the provinces of Saladin and Nineveh. Arson on agricultural land, however, is a new tactic for the group.

An increase in fires on agricultural land by any means will only exacerbate Iraq’s already fragile food security. Iraq is already heavily reliant on food imports from neighboring Iran and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Jordan stands by two-state Israel-Palestinian solution
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Jordan on Wednesday stood by a two-state solution to the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict, exposing a rift with the United States as the Trump administration tries to rally Arab support for a peace conference next month in Bahrain.

Presidential advisers Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Amman.

The official Petra news agency said the two parties "discussed regional developments, especially efforts to resolve the Paleostinian-Israeli conflict."

The king restated his commitment to the two-state solution, with the formation of an independent Paleostinian state alongside Israel, a position that appears to be at odds with President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s still undisclosed "Deal of the Century."

Jordan, a key US ally, has not yet said whether it will attend the June 25-26 meeting in the Bahraini capital, Manama.

The Paleostinians have already said they will not attend the summit and have rejected the Trump administration’s Mideast peace plan out of hand.

Kushner, who arrived from Morocco, has said the conference will focus on the economic foundations of peace between Israel and the Paleostinians. The conference will not include core political issues, such as Paleostinian statehood.

Greenblatt and Kushner met with Morocco’s King Mohammed VI on Tuesday and discussed Morocco’s support for the peace conference. Moroccan officials declined commenting on Kushner’s visit.

The White House confirmed Kushner was in Amman on Wednesday, but gave no details.

Reliant on American political and military support, it will be difficult for Jordan reject the invitation. But with most of its people of Paleostinian descent, it will be difficult to embrace a plan that does not include a Paleostinian state.

Amnesty accuses Myanmar military of fresh 'war crimes' in Rakhine
[DAWN] Myanmar's military is guilty of committing new "war crimes", extrajudicial killings and torture in its fight against ethnic Rakhine rebels, Amnesia Amnesty International said on Wednesday.

The armed forces have deployed thousands of troops and heavy artillery across northern Rakhine state in recent months where Arakan Army (AA) rebels are fighting for more autonomy for the state's ethnic Rakhine Buddhists.

The state was also the scene of the military's bloody crackdown against the Rohingya Moslem community in 2017. That campaign pushed some 740,000 Rohingya into Bangladesh in violence, UN Sherlocks say, warrants prosecution of top generals for "genocide".

The Amnesty said on Wednesday it had "new evidence" that Myanmar's military is now "committing war crimes and other human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
violations" against the ethnic Rakhine, listing extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, torture and enforced disappearances.

Access to the conflict area is heavily restricted but details of civilian deaths have emerged over recent weeks and months. But the army has confirmed it rubbed out six detainees late last month in the village of Kyauk Tan.

The Amnesty's report is based on scores of interviews with people from various ethnic groups, photographs, videos and satellite imagery.

It documents seven unlawful attacks that killed 14 civilians and injured dozens more, saying notorious infantry units have been deployed against the ethnic Rakhine. Some Rohingya Moslems who have remained in the area have also been killed.

"The new operations in Rakhine State show an unrepentant, unreformed and unaccountable military terrorising civilians," said regional director Nicholas Bequelin.

Iran says they are ready for possibility of war with US
[al masdar] Iran is prepared for the possibility of war with the United States, but hopes instead that tensions between the two nations can be solved with dialogue, the country’s deputy foreign minister has said.

“We hope that we can start a dialogue, but we are ready for war,” Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told RIA Novosti.

The comments by the Iranian Foreign Ministry comes just hours after U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton accused Tehran of carrying out a naval mine attack off the coast of the United Arab Emirates.

When the discovered a mine, the got blown to bits, thereby getting rid of the mine. But the Iranian soldiers found this too disturbing. Not that kids were dying., but that they were leaving body parts all over the minefield. The solution was to have the kids wrap themselves in a blanket. That way, when they stepped on a mine, all the body parts stayed together. And, they were already in a burial shroud, so win-win!

[gCaptain] The U.S. warned Hong Kong that it could face penalties if it does business with an oil tanker headed for the city that allegedly violated sanctions on Iran.

Washington wants to put China and the autonomous city on notice that it will aggressively and consistently enforce its Iran sanctions, a senior U.S. official said on Tuesday, speaking on condition of anonymity. The official said China would be informed that any entity doing business with the ship would expose it to U.S. sanctions.

The attention levied on this single vessel, the Pacific Bravo, underscores Washington's desire to stymie Iran's oil exports. Relations between the two sides have deteriorated sharply in recent weeks, following President Donald Trump's pledge to force Iran's vital oil exports down to zero and a revocation of key sanctions waivers.

The Pacific Bravo is owned by China's Bank of Kunlun, according to the senior U.S. official. Reuters reported in October that the bank ‐ once Beijing's major channel for transactions with Iran ‐ would stop handling such payments due to sanctions pressure.

Next Stop
While the U.S. official said the tanker is heading to Hong Kong, ship-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg shows a vessel called the Pacific Bravo off the coast of Sri Lanka and signaling Indonesia as its next stop.

The senior U.S. official said it was imperative that Hong Kong authorities prevent the vessel from docking or allowing local entities from providing services to ships that might misrepresent themselves in order to avoid exposing themselves to sanctions violations.

Washington wants to make clear that anyone doing business with Iran, won't be doing business with the U.S., the official said, adding that there would be more sanctions to come.

An emailed request for comment to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority wasn't immediately returned on Tuesday evening. The city's Maritime Department referred an earlier request to the relevant bureau.

Rising Tensions

Reuters reported on May 16 that a tanker in violation of U.S. sanctions had unloaded close to 130,000 tons of Iranian fuel oil into storage tanks near the eastern Chinese city of Zhoushan. It had earlier reported that a batch of Iranian fuel oil had sidestepped American sanctions on petroleum exports by using ship-to-ship transfers involving four vessels including that tanker ‐ the Marshal Z.

Trump has increased pressure on Iran since taking office, exiting the landmark 2015 nuclear deal that gave the Islamic Republic sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its disputed nuclear program.

Senior Iranian officials have made recent tours of neighboring countries in an effort to boost support, after the U.S. announced it would increase troop deployments in the Middle East and sell weapons to some of Iran's rivals.

Trump: ‘We Are Going to Do Something Very Dramatic' at US-Mexico Border
[EPOCH Times] President Donald Trump said that his administration was set to take major action at the United States-Mexico border.

"We are going to do something very dramatic on the border," he told reporters in Washington on May 30 before boarding Marine One. "I would say my biggest statement yet" would be made, he added.

The statement would be issued either later Thursday or sometime Friday, the president said.

"I’m not closing the borders, I’m doing something else," he said, adding that the statement "will have to do with people crossing the border illegally."

He said he was being forced to take action because "the Democrats will not give us laws" and "will not do anything."

"They want to have open borders" with crime and drugs pouring in, he added, along with human trafficking.

Trump was slated to go to Colorado and speak at the Air Force Academy’s graduation ceremony.
