Passages: USAF Colonel Dean E Hess died in March
CINCINNATI — Retired Air Force Col. Dean Hess, who helped rescue hundreds of orphans in the Korean War and whose exploits prompted a Hollywood film starring Rock Hudson, has died at age 97.

Hess died Monday at his home in Huber Heights, a suburb of Dayton, after a short illness, his son Lawrence Hess said Thursday.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Florence Henderson blames deceased NYC Pub mayor for giving her 'bloomer crickets'
[Huffpoo] New York City saw the continuation of a steep decline under the mayorship of John Lindsay, who reigned over the city from 1966-1973. Teachers went on strike, riots were fought and mounds of garbage filled the city streets.

Turns out he had some sanitation problems in his personal life, too.

Florence Henderson, most famous for her run as Carol Brady on the campy TV classic, "The Brady Bunch," reveals in her new memoir that she had a one-night stand with the Mayor while they were both in Beverly Hills. Henderson was married to Ira Bernstein at the time.

"I was lonely. I knew it wasn't the right thing to do. So, what did I do? I did it," she writes in "Life Is Not A Stage," the NY Daily News reports. And, following a night's sleep at home, she found out the hard way about the City that Never Sleeps.

"Guess I learned the hard way that 'creatures' do not discriminate but cross over all socioeconomic strata," Henderson writes. "He must have had quite the active life. What a way to put the kibosh on a relationship."

Owing to the fact there is no 'crazed, disrespectful of self, the dead, and others, Hollywood moonbat' category, I filed under SAST.

#1  Ahhhhh yes, mid '60's in NYC. I spent my teens in metro NYC at that time.

There was a good reason that when asked the first thing he would do if elected mayor in '65, William F Buckley replied "Demand a recount.".

-Land of the Free
Mark Steyn: The War on Free Speech
[STEYNONLINE]
Alas, we have raised a generation of But boys. Ever since those ridiculous Washington Post and AP headlines, I've been thinking about the fellows who write and sub-edit and headline and approve such things - and never see the problem with it. Why would they? If you're under a certain age, you accept instinctively that free speech is subordinate to other considerations: If you've been raised in the "safe space" of American universities, you take it as read that on gays and climate change and transgendered bathrooms and all kinds of other issues it's perfectly normal to eliminate free speech and demand only the party line. So what's the big deal about letting Muslims cut themselves in on a little of that action?

Why would you expect people who see nothing wrong with destroying a mom'n'pop bakery over its antipathy to gay wedding cakes to have any philosophical commitment to diversity of opinion? And once you no longer have any philosophical commitment to it it's easy to see it the way Miliband and Cotler do - as a rusty cog in the societal machinery that can be shaved and sliced millimeter by millimeter.

Do what the parochial hacks of the US media didn't bother to do, and look at the winning entry in Pam Geller's competition, which appears at the top of this page. It's by Bosch Fawstin, an Eisner Award-winning cartoonist and an ex-Muslim of Albanian stock. Like many of the Danish and French cartoons, it's less about Mohammed than about the prohibition against drawing Mohammed - and the willingness of a small number of Muslims to murder those who do, and a far larger number of Muslims both enthusiastic and quiescent to support those who kill. Mr Fawstin understands the remorseless logic of one-way multiculturalism - that it leads to the de facto universal acceptance of Islamic law. All that "Prophet Mohammed" stuff, now routine even on Fox News. He's not my prophet, he's just some dead bloke. But the formulation is now mysteriously standard in western media. Try it the other way round: "Isis News Network, from our Libyan correspondent: Warriors of the Caliphate today announced record attendance numbers for the mass beheading of followers of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ..."

#1  save a high res jpeg of the charlie hebdo cover - not "all is forgiven" because it isn't, but "100 lashes if you don't die laughing", sharia hebdo

make a logo "freedom is my religion" with 2 more mohammads: jyllands posten bomb mohammad and a happy mohammad for balance

put them on a t-shirt

proudly wear it.

they can censor it from the news media

but if you are freely expressing your own beliefs on your own t-shirt they can't censor that.

and be polite and nice, to all. be lovely to all muslims they might be secular allies you never know.

but that shirt says: i respect freedom which includes freedom for me to draw and display cartoons of mohammad. get used to it.

in this country yes you will see cartoons of mohammad. if you can't deal with it, there are 57 nations in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation where guaranteed you won't see a cartoon of mohammamd

but right here, you will because i will not give up my freedom for someone else's faith

#2  Read the whole thing, lots more at the link...

"...understand that Islamic imperialism has a good-cop-bad-cop game - or hard jihad, soft jihad. The hard jihad is fought via bombings and beheadings and burnings over barren bits of desert and jungle and cave country in the Middle East, Africa and the Hindu Kush. The soft jihad is a suppler enemy fighting for rather more valuable real estate in Europe, Australia and North America, so it uses western shibboleths of "diversity" and "multiculturalism" to enfeeble those societies. And it does so very effectively - so that when a British soldier is hacked to death on a London street in broad daylight, you can't really quite articulate what's wrong with it; or that, upon the death of the ugly king of a state where Christianity is prohibited, the Christian ministers of Westminster Abbey mourn his passing; or that, when Australians are held siege in a Sydney coffee shop, the reflexive response of progressive persons is to launch a social-media campaign offering to battle Islamophobia by helping Muslims get to work; or that, when violent Muslims stage their first explicit anti-free-speech attack on American soil, everyone thinks the mouthy free-speech broad is the problem. This soft jihad goes on every day of the week"

#5  The purpose of left-wing press is to make left-wing politicians look good. Sometimes, they try to do it by publishing things that make the later look good (or not publishing things that make them look bad). Sometimes, by publishing opinions that make left-wing politicians look moderate by comparison.

'Walker Texas Ranger' speaks out on Exercise Jade Helm
[Military.com] Actor and karate king Chuck Norris is adding himself to the list of skeptics questioning whether a U.S. Special Forces exercise is a government ruse to impose martial law over several states including Texas.

"The U.S. government says, 'It's just a training exercise.' But I'm not sure the term 'just' has any reference to reality when the government uses it," said Norris, who said Texas Gov. Greg Abbot was right to order his Texas State Guard monitor the exercise in Texas to ensure civil rights are protected.

This is the second time Norris has weighed in on controversial national security debates. Norris threw his support behind the A-10 Thunderbolt and criticized the Air Force for pushing to retire the aircraft.

Norris gained his celebrity status after leveraging his championship karate skills into an acting career when Hollywood jumped into the Kung Fu craze of the 1970s and '80s. Norris had previously served in the Air Force. He took up martial arts as an airman stationed in South Korea.

He made numerous movies in which he played a soldier, including the "Missing in Action" trilogy, about an Army colonel who returns to Vietnam to rescue American prisoners of war who had been left behind.

In 2007, Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Conway made Norris an honorary Marine. A few years later, after several seasons playing the lead role on the TV series, "Walker: Texas Ranger," Texas Gov. Rick Perry made Norris an Honorary Texas Ranger.

U.S. Army Special Operations Command said there is nothing unusual about Jade Helm, though the scope of the event sets it apart for skeptics.
We're probably well beyond ENDEX with this topic, but I'm a Norris fan. I beg your indulgence.

Yes, they're referred to as 'exercise role players' in the contracting business. English language fluency is a must. Past experience as a role player is helpful.

Sultan Knish: It Takes a Good Guy with a Gun to Defend Freedom of Speech
When two terrorists in body armor and carrying assault rifles came for a roomful of cartoonists and fans of freedom of speech in Texas, the media took the side of the terrorists.

CAIR, a Muslim Brotherhood front group with ties to terrorists, spun the attack by claiming that the contest had been intended to “bait” the terrorists. The media quickly picked up the “bait” meme.

The New York Times, the Atlantic Journal Constitution, the Dallas Morning News, CNN and even FOX News all accused the cartoonists of “baiting” the poor Muslim terrorists into attacking them. The actual attempt at mass slaughter was dismissed as the terrorists “taking the bait” from the cartoonists who had been fiendishly plotting to be mass slaughtered by them for the publicity.

The Washington Post not only stated that the contest was “bait”, but its headline huffed, “Event organizer offers no apology after thwarted attack in Texas.” And why won’t the 9/11 dead apologize?

Journalists often tell us that a free press is the best defense for a free society. Every major newspaper and news network once again proved them wrong. The best defense for freedom of speech came not from the journalists or the civil rights groups, from the speechmakers or the activists. It came from an off-duty traffic cop working security outside the event targeted by Muslim terrorists. His partner, an older guard, didn’t even have a gun, and took a bullet to the leg.

The Killing of Osama bin Laden
by Seymour M. Hersh
...he of My Lai fame, Abu Ghraib, and more recent adventures.
[LondonReviewOfBooks] Gates wasn't the only official who was distressed by Obama's decision to speak without clearing his remarks in advance, the retired official said, 'but he was the only one protesting. Obama didn't just double-cross Gates, he double-crossed everyone. This was not the fog of war. The fact that there was an agreement with the Pakistanis and no contingency analysis of what was to be disclosed if something went wrong -- that wasn't even discussed. And once it went wrong, they had to make up a new cover story on the fly.' There was a legitimate reason for some deception: the role of the Pakistani walk-in had to be protected.
Much, MUCH more at link - it's a long one. If the story has legs, ho-boy!
Excellent find BU. Yes, regrettably it's a Seymour Hirsch piece, but the veracity of the following items has always been problematic: the Pakistani 'air space' story, the 'burial at sea,' the unchallenged Abbottobad compound surveillance site, the imprisoned Dr. Shakeel Afridi scapegoating, the Non-Disclosure Statements (NDS) of mission participants, the 'mechanical failure' and helo crash, the totally unobstructed and unchallenged extraction, the Document Exploitation (DOCEX) failure, the made-for-teevee movie, the WH situation room photo, the WH 'outing' of the specific unit(s) taking part, lastly and possibly the most troubling, the braggadocios O'Neill malarkey and exploitation of Fox News.

The author has probably got it right. It was an cash & carry, presidential election campaign stunt. I'll never see another 7 minute mile, but I'd be delighted to go jogging with the author's source.

Except that Seymour's a pathological liar. I noticed that about the time he wrote on KAL007 shortly after I worked it.

#2  OK, Hersh's a pathological liar. But so is Zero. And Hersh's story makes more sense.
Posted by: Glenmore || 05/11/2015 7:49 Comments || Top||

#3  I dislike the Obama Administration as much as most but to me it seems like everything Seymour is accusing the administration ofare the kind of things you would lie about to cover a source.

He says they got info from an ex-Pak Intelligence guy claiming the reward. Well you don't straight up admit that or he'll be dead and nobody will come looking to claim rewards in the future. Most of the other lies follow from that.

  • If Seymour is telling the truth he probably just got this guy killed.

  • If Seymour is being played by Pak Intelligence (or lying) he just got this guy killed.

Journalism at its finest.

#4  Too much inside baseball for a foreign source.
Posted by: Besoeker || 05/11/2015 16:19 Comments || Top||

#5  Sooo... just to get everything on one page:

1. The primary source is a "retired" Klingon.

2. The Klingons got a walk-in, verified the info, coordinated the op and awarding of incentives with the Paks that mattered.

3. After much machination and gyration, the White House approved the op and ensured the Pal gov't would cooperate.

4. SOF did the op. Nobody knows where the body is.

5. POTUS released the Op results, against whatever agreement was supposedly made, screwing both the Paks, DOD, and SOF.

6. Scramble for a cover up story. Or two. Or three. Or revisions to all and sundry.

7. Non-disclosures ordered for those SOF involved. Things get deleted, or re-filed by senior officers (possibly under orders, possibly to keep their troops from being screwed further.) Frame up for one PAK doc working part-time for the Klingons. Klingons manage to get singed in Congress, but nothing worse.

8. POTUS gets re-elected (GM is alive and bin Ladin is dead?). Everything he does after re-election is "principled" and meets with Mr. Hersh's approval. But Mr. Hersh condemns the 'USG' for its habitual lies and cover-ups.

#11  Well, while we are at it, here's one of the comments on Blossum's linky, for your amusement:

the war on terror is a lie
on May 11, 8:14 PM said:
Bin laden died on december 15, 2001 of kidney failure and is buried at tora bora. The cia had several bin laden doubles and it was a bin laden double that was killed in the raid and then the seal team that was involved in the raid was put on one helicopter that was shot down and all were killed.

Charles Strange the father of Michael Stange one of the seals on the helicopter that was shot down said that his son and the others were set up to be killed, dead men tell no tales, google Charles Strange for the truth about the raid.
