2 Letters Addressed To Mayor Bloomberg Found To Contain Ricin
The FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force and the NYPD Intelligence Division have launched an investigation. CBS News reported both letters had a Shreveport, Louisiana, return address, reported CBS 2's Tony Aiello.

Law enforcement sources paraphrased the letters' message as saying, "This is a taste of what's to come if you come to take my gun."

Civilian personnel in New York and in Washington who came into contact with the opened letters have not suffered symptoms, but three NYPD Emergency Service Unit officers who came into contact with the letter at the city mail facility on Gold Street in Manhattan have been treated for minor symptoms of ricin exposure that have since abated, police said.

"They're in the hospital now being checked out as a precaution but it's not life-threatening, what they experienced," Browne said.

Last month, ricin-tainted letters addressed to President Barack Obama

#1  He should ban ricin.

#2  ban ricin.

At least in large containers. What reasonable person could object to a ban on 16 ounce containers of ricin? Do it for the children!

#5  ISTR that during the last "ricin letter" event, it was revealed that rubbing castor oil on the paper could cause the tests to come out positive. If so, this makes these tests worthless, as a few bucks could let someone taint an entire bag of mail.
Posted by: Rob Crawford || 05/30/2013 18:13 Comments || Top||

#6  All ricin letters should be sent to the same address. Ths way less people have chance of being hurt.

Or ricin letters should have special stamps (maybe the old mr yuck stickers). If you send a ricin letter without the special stamp there should be a large fine.

#7  Castor Bean plants are an invasive species here in San Diego County. Acquiring seeds/ricin precursors require a simple walk in the park - so to speak. anyone could do it and this seems more political message than actual attempts to kill.

Developer Guilty Of Illegal Contributions To Reid
[HOSTED.AP.ORG] A Nevada powerbroker who headed a billion-dollar real estate company and pulled the strings of state politics as a prominent lobbyist for more than a decade was convicted Wednesday of making illegal campaign contributions to U.S. Sen. Harry Reid
... the charismatic senator-for-life from Nevada, currently majority leader ...
Harvey Whittemore, 59, could face up to 15 years in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines after a federal jury returned guilty verdicts on three counts tied to nearly $150,000 illegally funneled to Reid's re-election campaign in 2007.

U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks instructed the jury to continue deliberating on another count of lying to the FBI. Jurors said they were deadlocked on that count.

Whittemore stood with his arms behind his back and shook his head slightly after the verdicts were read. He and lawyers for both sides declined comment on the verdicts pending a decision on the final count.

Whittemore was convicted of making excessive campaign contributions, making contributions in the name of another and causing a false statement to be made to the Federal Election Commission. Each count carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Reid had no comment on the verdicts, said Kristen Orthman, a spokeswoman for the senator.

Reid was not accused of any wrongdoing. He has said he was unaware of any potential problems with the money he received.

House Republicans assail Eric Holder on leak testimony
[REUTERS] Two Republican politicians asked U.S. Attorney General Eric Inaction Jackson Holder
... aka Mister Fast and Furious...
on Wednesday to clarify testimony he gave Congress this month about his role in the targeting of journalists in a leak probe.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte of Virginia and colleague James Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin sent a letter to Holder saying recent media reports "appear to be at odds with your sworn testimony."

At the May 15 hearing, Holder said he had never been involved in any decision to pursue a criminal investigation of a journalist and said it would not be "wise policy" to do so.

Last week, news outlets reported that Holder had approved a decision to seek a search warrant for Fox News email records as part of a leak investigation. Rooters later reported Holder signed off on a subpoena for telephone records as well.

The Fox News news hound involved, James Rosen, was described as a "co-conspirator" by Sherlocks, but was not charged.

A Justice Department official said the department had received the Republicans' letter and planned to show that Holder's testimony was consistent with the facts.

In a defense of Holder, White House front man Jay Carney said that Holder had testified truthfully. Carney told news hounds at a briefing on Wednesday there was an "extremely large distinction" between describing a news hound as a co-conspirator and charging him with a crime.

#3  OS, I suspect it will. These miscreants (pols and their lackeys of the LSM) would rather destroy the legitimacy of government rather than remove their hands from its power. And that is the choice they're going to force here and now. Too many comfortable prols out there to understand trinkets are in the end no substitution for liberty and freedom. They'll trade legitimate government to get their bread and circuses simply by becoming bystanders (Don't rock the boat) to the seizure of power.

Holder To Meet With Press On DoJ Journalism Guidelines...Off The Record
[BREITBART] US Attorney General Eric Inaction Jackson Holder
... aka Mister Fast and Furious...
will reportedly meet this week with Washington bureau chiefs at major media outlets to brief them on how the Justice Department deals with journalists who work with leakers. Michael Calderone of Huffington Post reports, "It's not yet certain exactly when the meeting (or meetings) will take place, but a Justice Department official confirmed to The Huffington Post that it would be sometime over the next two days." Invitees will include Huffington Post Washington bureau chief Ryan Grim.

The discussion will be off the record.

Last Thursday, President B.O. stated that Holder would meet with journalists to explain the DOJ's standards for media, and said that Holder would "consult a diverse and representative group of media organizations." Off the record, of course.

The B.O. regime has met with news hounds off the record in recent weeks to brief them on the White House's positions on areas of controversy like Benghazi.
The NYT and AP, in a rare show of strength and solidarity, have refused to attend the meeting unless it is on the record. Good for them.

House Republicans express "great concern" about possible Holder perjury
[CBSNEWS] Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Inaction Jackson Holder
... aka Mister Fast and Furious...
on Wednesday expressing "great concern" about the possibility that Holder lied under oath during his testimony earlier this month on the Justice Department's seizing of journalists' records, CBS News has learned.

On May 15, Holder told the committee he wasn't involved in "the potential prosecution" of a member of the press under the Espionage Act for disclosing classified information. "This is not something I've ever been involved in, heard of, or would think would be wise policy," he said.

Shortly thereafter, reports began to surface that the Justice Department, in addition to seizing telephone and email records of News Agency that Dare Not be Named news hounds, had seized the the emails and phone records of Fox News correspondent James Rosen. While Holder had recused himself from the AP proceedings, the Washington Post reported that the attorney general had personally signed off on the search warrant for Rosen's records.

In the search warrant, the FBI called Rosen a "criminal co-conspirator" and suggested there's probable cause that he violated federal law. Rosen was not charged with any crime.

House Judiciary Republicans, in their letter, raise the possibility that Holder perjured himself by issuing an ironclad denial of any involvement in the investigation and potential prosecution of news hounds. "The media reports and statements issued by the Department regarding the search warrants for Mr. Rosen's emails appear to be at odds with your sworn testimony before the Committee," they wrote. "We believe - and we hope you will agree - it is imperative that the Committee, the Congress and the American people be provided a full and accurate account of your involvement in and approval of these search warrants."

Your memory does not fail, JFM. In fact, the Democrats still do have a majority in the Senate. Whether they still will after midterm elections next November is apparently a question of some concern. But until then all sorts of things are simply not possible, including impeaching the president and walking back back Obamacare.

Did Obama's IRS create a special political unit?

#1  If the IRS did create a special unit, it likely wasn't just a management-only decision:

#2  IRS most likely were trying to find any kind of tax evasion they could about an opposition but came up with squeaky clean audits. Then went after another and another until someone noticed and without any mud on the opposition, suddenly they ended up with being the ones with mud on thier faces.

If they had found dirt they would no doubt have had their MSM buddies do big stories on the evasion hoping to harm the opposition. But they could find no dirt and now the illegal use of federal power has been exposed.

#5  The tax code itself is the tool of power and corruption. Even with evidence that a flat-tax and non-deduction / exemption system would increase revenues and facilitate productivity the GIVERnment would not be able to wield its power. The tax system punishes political opponents and curries favors to the crony elites. This latest episode is just another chapter in the corruption encyclopedia.

Guess you are for the corporate tax as well. I lean the other way. The individuals are taxed so why should the group also be taxed. Sales tax is different.

Hopefully with this IRS brew-ha-ha we'll finally get the numbers required to change the tax system to a flat tax.

#10  rj, forget it. The purpose of the income tax is not only to raise revenue. It also a means to encourage "good" behavior, discourage "bad" behavior, and to reward/punish the friends/enemies of those in power.
