Well, OK, the NYT hasn't endorsed Champ yet, but if you think they're not going to, call me for some excellent investment advice. So I thought I'd preempt them by reviewing the NYT's 2008 endorsement of Champ. These boys have some 'splaining to do.
We believe Champ has the will and the ability to forge the broad political consensus that is essential to finding solutions to this nation's problems. Right, bipartisanship is Champ's middle name. This year's endorsement will talk about the obstructionism of Rethuglican extremists.
Mr. Obama is clear that the nation's tax structure must be changed to make it fairer. That means the well-off Americans who have benefited disproportionately from Mr. Bush's tax cuts will have to pay some more. This apparently was NYT code for "Champ will extend the Bush tax cuts."
Working Americans, who have seen their standard of living fall and their children's options narrow, will benefit. To quote a famous idiot, "the middle class has been buried."
Mr. Obama also has correctly warned that until the Pentagon starts pulling troops out of Iraq, there will not be enough troops to defeat the Taliban and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan. (sprays coffee over computer screen)
Both presidential candidates talk about strengthening alliances in Europe and Asia, including NATO, and strongly support Israel. OK. Which of our alliances are stronger now than they were four years ago? And call Bibi about Champ's support for Israel.
Both candidates talk about repairing America's image in the world. But it seems clear to us that Mr. Obama is far more likely to do that. Champ has improved our image by affixing a "Kick Me" sign to our national back.
Under Mr. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, "Miss us yet?"
the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the justice system and the separation of powers have come under relentless attack. I didn't even know "extra-Consitutional" was a word until Champ got elected.
Both candidates are committed to closing the prison camp in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Champ's commitment to closing Gitmo reminds me of the kamikaze pilot who flew 47 missions: he was involved but not committed.
