Liberals at Seattle Zoo Having Hard Time Educating Bamboo the Elephant
Bohmke said at the time that sending Bamboo to an elephant sanctuary was not an option. He said the sanctuary isn't appropriate for an elephant in the care of an accredited zoo at which conservation and education are key elements.

Guardian: Is Liz Talyor Dead? (Age cannot wither her)
There must be more to Liz Taylor's afterlife than Larry King Live
It must have been a slow day at the Guardian

Mark Twain is often celebrated for his witty observation that "the reports of my death are greatly exaggerated", but many felt he missed a trick by failing to follow it up with the words: "But while you're on, can I interest you in a Diamonique choker?" Keen to close the circle, a kaftan-shrouded Liz Taylor was wheeled on to CNN's Larry King Live this week with the dual aim of denying recent US tabloid reports that she is in the later stages of Alzheimer's, and flogging her new range of jewellery. "Am I alive?" she demanded of the chatshow host, whose own vital signs have long been disputed. "Am I dead?"

Man, it's a tough call. On the one hand, I need to think there's more to any afterlife for which Liz is destined than getting done up like Demis Roussos to offload cubic zirconias on a cable channel. She should at least be fighting with Richard Burton on something networked. On the other, the entire broadcast did have the flavour of the movie classic Weekend at Bernie's, and it wouldn't be the most enormous surprise if each jerky movement of Liz's arm toward her competitively priced wares was in fact the result of a complex pulley system operated by an unseen puppeteer, as opposed to a genuine human motor reflex.

Anyways, after the above deliberation, Liz came down on the side of insisting that she lives. Whether you believe her or not is a matter for you: what is clear is that she's not comfortable enough with her legacy to go at any time. She's got at least one more range of tat in her, which many believed impossible after her White Diamonds fragrance had spun off into Diamonds and Sapphires, Diamonds and Emeralds, Diamonds and Rubies. (Even as we speak, somewhere in Bel Air they're working on Diamonds and Prescription Painkillers.)

Ted Kennedy used to do that for photo ops with Rose in the wheelchair when she was about 107 and he was in another jam. I used to look forward to seeing it on the front page of the Globe around every Easter or Mothers Day because it was so hilarious. I never thought Rose actually ever died, but that Ted just used up all the ice for his drinks...

#4  "Is Liz Taylor Dead?"

No. But if not for her exclusive diet of Humming Bird eggs and the fresh adrenal glands of Brown-Headed Spider monkeys she would have to spend most of her waking hours in her cryogenic chamber.

Cindy Sheehan: I'll 'Cripple' Hillary Clinton
"Peace Mom" Cindy Sheehan is predicting that Jonathan Tasini, the anti-war candidate she's backing in the New York Senate race, will either defeat Hillary Clinton or "cripple" the top Democrat's political prospects for future races.

"I think Jonathan has a really good chance of beating her," Sheehan told NY1 news on Tuesday, after endorsing Tasini's candidacy at a Manhattan rally earlier in the day. Sheehan then added: "But if he doesn't beat her, I think he has a really good chance of crippling her to show the world that she is not a progressive."

Tasini was a virtual unknown until last week, when he forced New York State Democrats who had just nominated Mrs. Clinton for a second term at their convention in Buffalo to vote on a resolution condemning the Iraq war as "illegal." It passed in a voice vote that sounded like a landslide.
Tasini's primary challenge could give Mrs. Clinton more grief than most observers think.

A Zogby poll released last Tuesday found that New Yorkers of both parties are staunchly anti-war. In a contest between Mrs. Clinton and an unnamed anti-war candidate, the result was a near tie - with 38 percent backing Hillary and 32 percent lining up behind her opponent. Numbers like that are fueling Tasini and Sheehan's optimism. "How can it be that we have a Democratic senator who voted for the war, who's position is like Bush?" he asked NY1. "Democratic primary voters don't want that kind of senator." With media magnet Sheehan by his side, Tasini will be even more difficult to ignore as he campaigns for the 15,000 signatures he needs to get on the ballot for the Sept. 12 primary.

Elections: Democrats Lose Everything They Could Lose; Break Even On Primaries
A former Republican congressman narrowly beat his Democratic rival early Wednesday for the House seat once held by jailed Randy "Duke" Cunningham, a race closely watched as a possible early barometer of next fall's vote. Republican Brian Bilbray emerged victorious after a costly and contentious special election race against Democrat Francine Busby, a local school board member. With 90 percent of precincts reporting, Bilbray had 56,130 votes, or 50 percent. Busby trailed with 51,292 votes, or 45 percent. "I think that we're going back to Washington," Bilbray told cheering supporters. The race — one of dozens of contests Tuesday in eight states — was viewed by Democrats as an opportunity to capture a solidly Republican district and build momentum on their hopes to capture control of the House.

Also in California, State Treasurer Phil Angelides narrowly beat Controller Steve Westly in the state's gubernatorial primary. He next faces GOP Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who faced no credible opposition in his party's nomination. With 94 percent of precincts reporting, Angelides had 931,220 votes, or 48 percent, to Westly's 855,320 votes, or 44 percent. "You've given me a chance to fight for you, for the California of our dreams, and I will not let you down," Angelides said while his supporters chanted, "Go, Phil, go!"

The race proved long on negative ads and short on excitement and attention, giving the Republican governor a timely lift as he publicly launches his re-election drive Wednesday.

#1  I did some checking on the 50th this morning and the total vote was right about 60/40% R/D and that is the demographic breakdown of that district. The Republican had to compete with some other challengers that siphoned off some votes but not enough for the Democrat to win. So after the a HUGE MSM campaign, millions of dollars, and lots of accusations the Democrats in the 50th District moved the peg NOWHERE. Bilbray ran an anti-Illegals and Busby ran on an anti-Bush campaign. My read is that Bush (and the Republicans) is not that disenchanted with the voters or at the very least the voters don’t think that Democrats are the answer. On a better note Arnold will crush Angelides in November; this guy is all about raising taxes and “Turning California around.” If he means the economic BOOM and large surpluses in the treasury then he will lose big.

#3  Jerry Brown, the former California governor, presidential candidate and current Oakland mayor, won the Democratic primary for attorney general

God! Talk about "The Thing That Wouldn't Leave"!
Jee-zus!

Hollywood director Rob Reiner was the leading backer of a measure in California to create a $2.4 billion universal preschool program, which went down to defeat with only 39 percent of voters supporting it.

Sorry, Meathead...

#4  Make Reiner pay back the tax money he used to get that pig on the ballot. Totally illegal.

#5  Old Jerry was a better and more conservative mayor of Oakland than anything on offer there. Which isn't saying much, I know, but you have to give him his due.

#6  Regarding the 50th district. That's my district and I think Busby lost because of the immigration issue. It brought out voters, especially when she was caught with that idiot comment that hinted illegals could vote.

I'm pissed at the Republicans now but that doesn't mean I'm gonna let her represent me. There is spite and there is stupid.

The real question is what happens in Nov. Bilbray will have no Republican competition and there will be a lot of time for Busby's "you don't need papers to vote" comment to sink in and find its way into campaign commercials. There will also be little reason for either party to turn out unless there is a ballot or measure I'm unaware of.

#7  "GOP Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who faced no credible opposition in his party's nomination."

He is not getting much in the way of credible endorsement, either.

#8  Arnold will do fine. Bilbray will do your district fine as well. I grew up in Chula Vista when he was at IB (mayor)/ County Supervisor. He's a good man. She was an empty skirt trying not to tell you the truth. Good results. I've got Duncan Hunter and happy with that

#9  The MSM may be focusing on Dubya's dubious alged declines in ratings but the message is clear that, however imperfectly or defective, mainstream America is majorily or overwhelmingly for the GOP-Conservative agenda, and the RINO CINO Federalists/Constitutionalists/
Americans/Westernists/Democratists-in-Name-Only DemoLefties know it.
