Rick Perry Files Lawsuit To Get On Virginia Primary Ballot
Texas Gov. Rick Perry has filed suit in federal court against the Virginia Republican Party and the Virginia Board of Elections in order to gain a spot on the Commonwealth's primary ballot.

Perry was excluded after the party found he had not submitted enough valid signatures by the deadline last Thursday. His campaign submitted 6,000 of the required 10,000, according to the suit.

The lawsuit alleges that Perry's 1st and 14th Amendment rights were violated by the requirement that those circulating the petitions also be eligible or registered voters of Virginia.

"Virginia ballot access rules are among the most onerous and are particularly problematic in a multi-candidate election," Perry communications director Ray Sullivan said in a statement. "We believe that the Virginia provisions unconstitutionally restrict the rights of candidates and voters by severely restricting access to the ballot, and we hope to have those provisions overturned or modified to provide greater ballot access to Virginia voters and the candidates seeking to earn their support."

#2  Perry and Gingrich screwed up. The rules were clear.

Perry has never run an election campaign larger than governor before, and he relied on his usual campaign staff for a presidential run. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

#3  What was Newt's excuse? Virginia is his home state.

#4  Perry and Gingrich screwed up. The rules were clear.

"The Rules" were changed in November. He and Gingrich may have screwed up, but road blocks were also cast into their path. Not nice.

The GOP is just as vile in my eyes as the Commies in the DNC, only more stupid with the added handicap of naivety.

God help us.

#5  Romney was killed in VA in 2007. Now the state GOP has essentially guaranteed him the win -- write-ins aren't even allowed.

All this means is that VA has made themselves irrelevant in this election round. If they want to play next time they'll have to change the rules (or at least refrain from changing them at the last minute to help one candidate at the expense of all the others).

75% of Republicans can't stand Romney, and they aren't going to change their minds. We know this guy. We've known him for years. If he hasn't sealed the deal with his own party, or even his own state (his approval rating in MA was in the 30's and he was rated 48th out of all 50 governors) then he can't be president.

Ben Nelson (Dem- Nebraska) to retire
from Politico
Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska
infamous for the Cornhusker Kickback
will announce today that he is retiring after two terms, a serious blow to Democratic efforts to hold onto their majority in the chamber next November.

The White House and top Senate Democrats, including Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) and Sen. Chuck Schumer (N.Y.), had quietly mounted a pressure campaign to keep Nelson from retiring. Nelson has more than $3 million in his campaign war chest
Nelson can probably keep some of this by cycling his own campaign funds into a PAC or two and then forming a consultancy to work for that PAC or having the PAC hire his kin
and his approval rating solidified after falling over the last several years.

#2  ...the simple manipulation is to retain the 'reelection committee' for 'future' opportunities while becoming a highly compensated 'advisor' along with doling out bribes donations to your fellow semi-retired crooks associates who do the same for you.

There's two more scum that could do Americans a favor and retire.

#4  I spent several weeks in Nebraska over the summer. Radio stations were playing wall to wall ads for this guy. So it's not like he wasn't trying to kiss and make up with his constituents. Glad to see they didn't fall for it.

Sen. Ben Nelson won’t seek reelection
Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) is set to announce he will not seek reelection, according to sources, leaving his seat as a strong pickup opportunity for the GOP in the 2012 election.

Nelson, 70, could announce his retirement as early as today, according to sources familiar with his plans. The news was first reported by Politico.

The national Democratic Party had spent more than $1 million in advertising this year driving up Nelson’s personal approval rating, perhaps in hopes of convincing him that he could win in a dark red state. But Republican-aligned groups also spent heavily trying to define the moderate Democrats as an enabler of President Obama, particularly because Nelson voted for Obama’s health care bill.
