Zimbabwe facing 'man-made' starvation, UN expert warns
[UN News] The independent UN human rights expert was presenting her assessment on the current situation in Zimbabwe, concerning all aspects related to the right to food, following a 11-day visit to the country.

Because of hyperinflation, which, said Ms. Elver, has reached some 490 per cent, more than 60 per cent of the population is now "food-insecure", in a country once seen as the breadbasket of Africa: "In rural areas, a staggering 5.5 million people are currently facing food insecurity, as poor rains and erratic weather patterns are impacting harvests and livelihoods", she said. "In urban areas, an estimated 2.2 million people are food-insecure and lack access to minimum public services, including health and safe water".

Ms. Elver described the figures as "shocking", and warned that, due to factors such as poverty and high unemployment, widespread corruption, severe price instabilities, and unilateral economic sanctions, the crisis is getting worse.

Women and children ’bearing the brunt’
No mention made of the old people, due possibly to the fact there are so few.
Women and children are bearing the brunt of the crisis, said the Special Rapporteur, adding that the majority of children she had met were stunted and underweight. According to Ms. Elver, child deaths from severe malnutrition have been rising in recent months, and 90 % of Zimbabwean children aged six months to two years are not consuming the minimum acceptable diet: "I saw the ravaging effects of malnutrition on infants deprived of breast feeding because of their own mothers’ lack of access to adequate food".

The situation for women, as described by the human rights expert, is equally stark, with women (and children) increasingly forced to drop out of school, being forced into early marriage, domestic violence, prostitution, and sexual exploitation.

#1  ...Curious this: that a UN expert is blaming this on a political situation instead of climate change.

#2  Kissinger has been permitted to live long enough to realize his folly. Harold Wilson died in 1995 still believing their perfidious kak.

“...it would not have been predicted by any observer of American politics that a Republican administration would take the lead in bringing about the breakthrough to majority rule in Southern Africa. Majority rule had been a liberal cause, never translated into an operational policy."

Saturday Schadenfreude: Kamala Harris's staff quits and tells media her campaign is a disaster
[American Thinker] In addition to this article today:
While the field of Democrats running for the party's presidential nomination contains some seriously scorn-worthy politicians, Kamala Harris is the worst of the lot when it comes to dishonesty, hypocrisy, and a willingness to say or do anything to advance her career. When she launched her campaign with a rally in Oakland, I was worried about the organizational capabilities that brought a claimed 20,000 people to downtown Oakland to cheer her on toward the White House. A woman who began her political career by sexually servicing a decades' older powerful male politician who bestowed public office on her should not get anywhere near the Oval Office as its tenant.

Fortunately for the Republic, it's been all downhill for her since then. She's been called out by rivals for her hypocrisies, such as laughing about smoking pot after sending many people to prison for the same acts as a DA. And she has been a terrible manager of her campaign.

Now, as she languishes in the low single digits despite her twofer racial status and cis-female identity politics appeal to Democrats, and as the moneybags donors who call the shots abandon her, her staff is leaping from the sinking ship and dissing her to the media.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran on the Brink
[American Thinker] Uprisings in Iran have become routine occurrences, albeit without much success. Why? Because Iran is ruled by a totalitarian Islamic ideology like Nazism and communism. In Iran, there is no sovereignty of the people. Instead, there is a perception of the Ummah in Shia theology "rule of Mahdi", guardianship over the people. In other words, Iran belongs to "Imam Zaman" (the Hidden Imam) and in his absence, a supreme leader is in charge. In this case, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Any revolt against the State is considered a direct attack against the upcoming "Lord of the Age."

Hence, at the slightest signs of protests, the regime unleashes its wild dogs (soldiers of Mahdi) on a killing spree. Iranians partook in many protests across the country amidst a failing economic situation, systematic government corruption, and widespread frustration over the lack of political and social freedoms. As always, the regime's security apparatus reacted to these protests with mass arrests and severe due process abuses. Pundits and experts believe "Khamenei's tough response could just invite more anger."

Since the Islamic invasion of 1979, the Mullahs have ruled over the unarmed Iranian people with an iron fist and absolute power while draining the nation's treasury. As a result, millions of Iranians had no choice but to flee their homes to the four corners of the globe. In these recent protests, Iran's rulers once again revealed their real identity to the world that they don't value human life. They are simply vicious killers.

U.S. SANCTIONS
After the U.S. withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA or Iran nuclear deal on May 18, 2018, the US almost immediately imposed several new sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI).

The U.S. followed up with further sanctions on the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his office, and those who were closely tied to him with access to major financial resources. In July 2019, the United States placed sanctions on the regime's Foreign Minister Mohammad, Javad Zarif.

The U.S. also placed sanctions on eight senior commanders of the navy, aerospace, and ground forces components of the IRGC. In April of 2019, President Donald Trump designated Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a foreign "terrorist" organization.

RESULTS
Within a few months, Iran's crude oil exports were slashed by almost 80%. Despite massive propaganda from President Rouhani's office claiming these sanctions did not phase them and they had gotten used to them. However, this dosage of reality hit the regime hard. The regime is out of money and unable to pay the salaries of their military apparatus as well as its terrorist proxies such as Hezb'allah, Hamas, the Houthi insurgency in Yemen, Bashar al-Assad of Syria and other hired thugs. By November 2019, the regime was completely broke and needed to come up with a solution to save itself.

Out of desperation, the supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei took a gamble and raised the price of gasoline by 50% (some say by 300%) in order to consolidate the budget deficit. That was precisely what prompted protests in at least five cities almost simultaneously and brought millions of people into the streets. Almost all the slogans were against the Ayatollah Khamenei himself.

Why Are There So Few Women at West Point? Ask Congress.
[Politico] Three decades ago, when I graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, just 10 percent of the students in my class were women.

Since then, women have made gains in many areas of American society‐from Congress to corporate boardrooms. But at West Point the numbers have barely budged: By the time I retired from the Army, in 2014, just 16 percent of students were women.

In 2018, the number bumped up to 20 percent, but that is still low. The situation isn’t much better at the other service academies. The Air Force Academy’s 2018 graduating class was just shy of 22 percent women, and the Naval Academy came in only a bit better, at 25 percent.

How can it be that America’s military academies are still admitting and graduating so few women‐especially when these schools are free and prestigious, and across the country women earn 57 percent of all undergraduate degrees? This low percentage persists even now that all military occupations and units are open to women. The small percentage of women who do gain admission often perform better than their male classmates. Despite women making up just under 20 percent of the 2018 West Point class, eight of the top 10 graduates were women, and women made up 44 percent of honor roll students.

It turns out Congress might be limiting qualified women’s ability to access this elite educational opportunity.

By law, and with a few exceptions, West Point only considers applicants who have been nominated by a member of Congress from their state. (Lawmakers make their nominations based on an application and in-person interview.) A report released over the summer by the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center revealed that since 1994 women have never made up more than 27 percent of all congressional nominations made in any year for admission to the three military academies. According to the report, Democrats have, on average, given 22 percent of their nominations to women, while Republicans have given 20 percent of their nominations to women. (The CVLC made multiple Freedom of Information Act requests to get the data from the military for its report.)

Which only proves after 30 years, the author still has no clue as to the actual mission and purpose of the US Military academies.

As far as the author's advocacy of 'Female Engagement Teams' (FETS); the creation of diaper wearing, non-RON (daylight only) FET teams in AFG were (may still be) a sad turn of events which resulted in maiming and death of many innocent young soldiers. The WIA/KIA issue matters little to 'social justice' warriors however.

#3  West Point was established to provide professional military officers and train engineers to build the country. It toss the latter mission sometime after WW2. The only degree obtained from the academy was an engineering degree prior to that.

Hatred of Israel is the Symptom. Hatred of Western Society is the Disease.
[American Thinker] Many on the political Left, such as Rep. Ilhan Omar, complain that American Jews support Israel because Israel is a Jewish-majority country. All Americans should support Israel because Israel is a civilized country similar to the United States in terms of culture and values. These values include free elections, freedom of the press, rule of law, religious pluralism, women's rights, and safety for LGBT people. Israel is, like the United States, a free country as defined by Freedom House. Its neighbor Syria has a freedom score of zero out of 100, Egypt is not free, and Gaza, the home of the "poor oppressed Palestinians," is not free. American values say Americans should side with the world's free countries and not dictatorships like Turkey and theocracies like Iran.

The United Nations' Human Rights Council (UNHRC) consists, meanwhile, of outhouse countries -- I am using the family-friendly and radio-safe version of President Trump's term for them -- such as Afghanistan, Mainland China, Cuba, Egypt, and Rwanda. These countries have as much right to be on a Human Rights Council as a child pornographer has to be in charge of a day care center. President Trump rightly denied the UNHRC its legitimacy by withdrawing from it. The United States will no longer lend its name to this enabler and whitewasher of human rights abuses around the world.

...Organizations like Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) are but one set of examples of rebellion for rebellion's sake against the Western value system that built modern civilization. The rebels with all the wrong causes, aka social justice warriors (SJWs), seek to identify purportedly downtrodden and oppressed proletarians, i.e. everybody in the Third World, to support against the evil racist, imperialist, and colonialist oppressors, i.e. everybody in the developed First World; the very source of the SJWs' privileged lifestyles. Female American and European activists who travel to the so-called "occupied territories" in Israel are allegedly so eager to rebel against the very societies that gave them everything they have that they tolerate being used as "comfort women" by the "noble revolutionaries" because, let's face it, any hand with an upraised AK-47 has to belong to a Good Guy.

...Squad member Rashida Tlaib more recently called Israel racist and equated a boycott of Israel to a boycott of Nazi Germany. Presidential hopefuls Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders also, like Tlaib, Omar, and Ocasio-Cortez, apparently feel there is some kind of moral equivalence between civilized Israelis and violent Hamas savages. These views are shared by a substantial number of Congressional Democrats. Jeremy Corbyn (Labour, UK) has depicted not only Hamas but also Hezbollah, the organization behind the bombing murder of U.S. Marines in Beirut, as "his friends" and has also been supportive of the Irish Republican Army.

...Hatred of Israel is therefore but one symptom of a far more widespread disease; hatred and contempt for advanced Western Civilization that has given very privileged lives, and usually college educations, to Social Justice Warriors and Rebels with All the Wrong Causes who would, if given the opportunity, drag down their own societies in favor of a romanticized and noble Third World that never was and never will be. We encourage them to move in with their downtrodden and oppressed proletarian friends in Gaza, Iran, Vietnam, and Mainland China. Maybe Queers Undermining Israeli Terrorism (QUIT) and Queers Against Israeli Apartheid can hold a gay pride event in Hamas-controlled "Palestine," and let us know how it goes when (and if) they come back.
