[POLITICKER] The New York City Council hopes to pass legislation that would reduce the speed limit on most residential and side streets to 20 miles per hour, Council Speaker Christine Quinn announced today.
"We are actively working on that bill and our goal is to pass it before the end of the year," Ms. Quinn said during an unrelated presser this afternoon before the month's final council meeting. "We're actively working on it right now."
The bill, introduced by Councilman David Greenfield, is aimed at reducing serous pedestrian injuries and traffic fatalities. Last year, 148 pedestrians were killed in traffic accidents and crashes.

Hmmm. 148 pedestrian fatalities is roughly 1 every other day in a city of 8 million people. Doesn't seem particularly high, off hand. Gotta wonder how many take place on residential streets vs main thoroughfares.
Hey, you don't suppose this is all about revenue generation, do you? (100 tickets/day * $100/ticket * 300 days = 3 million dollars)

[NBCPHILADELPHIA] Drivers could possibly be pulled over for snacking, smoking or putting on make-up behind the wheel under a bill that has been advanced in the New Jersey Assembly.
The proposed law would fine drivers found to "engage in any activity unrelated to the operation of a motor vehicle in a manner that interferes with the safe operation of the vehicle."
The bill advanced by a 12-0 vote Monday in the Assembly's transportation committee. It does not spell out which activities would and would not be considered distracted driving, instead leaving that determination up to police.

And we had a wonderful time -- great food, great company, very inspiring. No valet parking! You know what? I had to walk to the White House. We have valet parking at the Sabans! So, Mr. President, if you would, please, thank you. Taxpayers' money? I'll fund it, no problem."
President B.O. responded to the valet parking complaint:
President B.O. then spoke for about 14 minutes. He began by saying, "Now, let me clarify something. First of all, there was valet parking -- for Cheryl. We thought it was appropriate for Haim to get some exercise. Cheryl, being the wonderful person that she is, declined the valet parking, and so she might have joined him. But I would have been happy to have her drive right up into the South Lawn."

[WASHINGTONTIMES] The IRS said the new set of rules defining political activity is the first step, and still to come is another rule laying out just how much political activity is allowed before a nonprofit goes too far and loses the right to tax-exempt status.
"We are committed to getting this right before issuing final guidance that may affect a broad group of organizations," said Mark J. Mazur, assistant secretary of the Treasury. "It will take time to work through the regulatory process and carefully consider all public feedback as we strive to ensure that the standards for tax-exemption are clear and can be applied consistently."
Under the rules proposed Tuesday, groups would be considered to engage in politicking if they contribute to candidates or parties or advocate for their election or defeat. But so would distributing voter guides or even hosting a politician at an event, if it's within 60 days of a general election.
Congress' chief tax writer, House Boodle Central Chairman Dave Camp, said the IRS was acting too quickly, particularly since there are several ongoing congressional investigations into how the agency treated the tea party.
"Before rushing forward with new rules, especially ones that appear to make it harder to engage in public debate, I would hope Treasury would let all the facts come out first," the Michigan Republican said. "This smacks of the administration trying to shut down potential critics."
And groups that were targeted by the IRS said the new rules appear to be an effort to blame poor wording in the law and the tea party groups themselves, rather than to blame the officials who oversaw the targeting.
House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell E. Issa, who is also investigating the IRS, said the new rules will only hurt small grass-roots organizations, not the major labor unions or well-funded business groups that often back the B.O. regime's agenda.
"This is a crass political effort by the administration to get what political advantage they can, when they can," the Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, Republican said.
The IRS ran into trouble when it decided to single out applications from tea party groups for special scrutiny. The agency sent many of those groups intrusive questions asking about books they were reading, guests they were hosting, names of group officers and, in some instances, about their links with other groups.
Auditors said those questions were out of bounds, and also said the agency was holding up many of the applications it received for far too long as it tried to probe for answers.
On Tuesday, agency officials said the new rules will reduce the need for that intrusive screening, or what it called "fact-intensive inquiries," because the rules for what activities cross the line will be clearer to both sides.

The pre election unemployment numbers, Florida's voter fraud, Even the Iran agreement, it goes on and on.
Now the DNC is sending talking points to our youth telling us how to argue with their relatives? Pol Pot did this in Cambodia. Mao did this in China, we are on a frightening road. I've seen this through history and in person, we will not make two more years - to election- if something does not change.

[WASHINGTONTIMES] The B.O. regime, in what's been called an egregious slap in the face to the Vatican, has moved to shut down the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See -- a free-standing facility -- and relocate offices onto the grounds of the larger American Embassy in Italia.
The new offices will be in a separate building on the property, Breitbart reported.
And while U.S. officials are touting the relocation as a security measure that's a cautionary reaction to last year's attacks on America's facility in Benghazi, several former American envoys are raising the red flag.
It's a "massive downgrade of U.S.-Vatican ties," said former U.S. Ambassador James Nicholson in the National Catholic Reporter. "It's turning this embassy into a stepchild of the embassy to Italia. The Holy See is a pivot point for international affairs and a major listening post for the United States, and ... [it's] an insult to American Catholics and to the Vatican."
Mr. Nicholson -- whose views were echoed by former envoys Francis Rooney, Mary Ann Glendon, Raymond Flynn and Thomas Melady -- also called the justification for closing the existing facility a "smokescreen," Breitbart reported.
"That's like saying people get killed on highways because they drive cars on them," he said in the report. "We're not a pauper nation ... if we want to secure an embassy, we certainly can."
Moreover, the existing facility has "state of the art" security, he said.

WTF over - you got to be kidding me. I've been to both. Embassy Rome sits right on the flipping street and is MUCH more vulnerable than Embassy HS. Funny how they love us when they need us (security concerns "cough" bullshit "cough") but otherwise consider us second class citizens (at best) otherwise.

This is clear case of Chicago politics: use your power to punish those who oppose you. The US Catholic Church via several dioceses, and many of its organizations have been big legal challengers all over the country in fighting the Obamacre law, and may yet force its repeal - the whole law. No severability clause means if one piece goes, the whole thing goes.
This is straight up thuggery from the thug-in-chief.

OldSpook, the lack of a severability clause is the main reason that the Supreme Court will never rule against ObamaCare. Roberts doesn't have the balls to throw out the entire law. The court will find some way to ignore the whole severability issue.
I really wonder what Obama has on Roberts to get him to declare the ACA mandate a tax.

As a Catholic, I share the feelings about the embassy closing, and it's motivations, but let's not forget that Catholic clergy were big supporters of passing Obamacare.
Maybe they should have read the Book of Esther and paid attention to what happened to Haman.

The Ohio Republican RINO said hes just learned from HealthCare.gov that his deductible will triple and his new premium will be nearly twice the current price, Fox News reported. How about forgetting about yours, and "learning" about OURS ?
Here is the bottom line, said a spokesman for Mr. Boehner on Fox News. Before Obamacare, through the program for all federal employees, the Boehners monthly premiums totaled $433 with a $700 deductible. As a congressman, I'd be ashamed to even mention it, but of course they know no shame.
But under the new health care plan, costs soar. But only for those trying to work for a living. Everyone else's is free, just like the fone, housing, and EBT card.
Now, the Boehners will pay around $800 per month, with deductibles somewhere near $2,000, the spokesman said. Of course, the speaker and Mrs. Boehner are fortunate enough to be able to afford these higher costs. Theyre not asking anyone to feel sorry for them. We stress that. I "feel sorry" for him, but for other reasons.
The speakers office gave out the information only in response to an inquiry from Fox News, for the sake of transparency, the spokesman said. See, we're just like all of you little people out there.

Hmm, for a crème de la crème health care plan, $433 a month with a $700 deductible is about what I was paying the last time I had health insurance provided by an employer.
$800 a month and a $2000 deductible? I can only imagine what some families in California, Massachusetts, and New York are going to be paying.
ObumbleCare is a massive Ponzi scheme. People who don't want or don't need health care are paying for a lot of mandated coverages to cover the losses on those who have illnesses covered by the mandates.
So if you are single, male, and in perfect health, the contraception, abortion, OB/Gyn, nursing home, pediatric, and geriatric premiums are going to pay for someone else's treatment.
The problem is the massive wealth transfer is not working. The money goes from the middle class to the poor and then to the wealthy oligarchy of physicians who seem to want to bleed this country dry.
