Sheriff defends Texas seven generations after ancestors fought for independence
[JustTheNews] A sheriff whose ancestors fought and died in the American Revolution and the Texas Revolution is continuing the fight for freedom in Goliad, Texas, this time against criminal cartels involved in a massive human and drug trafficking operation, he says.

Goliad County Sheriff Roy Boyd, a seventh-generation Texan who was elected in November 2020 after a 20-plus year career in law enforcement, is leading a multi-county task force to thwart what he says is a massive criminal network operating along Highway 59. The network stems from Mexico through Laredo to the trafficking distribution hub of Houston.

After Biden administration policies ushered in cartel activity through the southern border, Boyd said, Goliad found itself in the middle of a several hundred million dollar a month human trafficking operation.

Roughly 850 square-miles, the rural county’s winding roads are only interrupted by two stop lights. Its population is 7,400, and Boyd and multiple law enforcement officers are working to protect them from cartel activity in their community.

The border crisis isn’t about illegal immigration, Boyd argues, it’s about the lucrative business of human trafficking. Most who illegally enter at ports of entry do so by paying cartel operatives who orchestrate their crossing, the sheriff said. Once in the U.S., they owe the cartels thousands of dollars and work as indentured servants, Boyd said.

Those who enter illegally between ports of entry, intentionally evading law enforcement with many committing crimes along the way, are the ones Boyd and his task force are looking for, he said. They’re stealing cars, breaking into homes, committing sexual and other violent crimes, and trafficking large groups of people and unprecedented amounts of drugs, he said. Many are armed and dangerous, the sheriff added.

Goliad sits right in the middle of their route: a 2.5-hour drive from Mexico and a 2.5-hour drive to Houston, the largest city closest to the border and primary cartel destination in Texas.

Initially, Boyd only had two deputies. But because of Gov. Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star, he was able to hire more and is leading a strike force to thwart criminal activity. “Gov. Abbott threw us a lifeline,” he said. “Before Operation Lone Star, we were drowning.”

Goliad County was among the first to declare a state of disaster last year in response to the increased criminal activity perpetuated by what he says are Biden administration policies. The county was among the first to declare an invasion at the southern border – on July 5, 2022.

On a ride along, Boyd showed The Center Square a stash house hidden deep in the woods off a county road. No one would know it was there were it not for his team searching for it, he said. So far, they’ve found 16.

Stash houses are used by traffickers to hide and hold people illegally. The house observed by The Center Square was full of trash and clothes, had no water or electricity and was structurally unsound.

Boyd says his team is on track to make 500 arrests this year, up from 77 in previous years.

Potential criminals are warned by a sign at one county entrance. Translated from Spanish, it reads: “WARNING!!! Traffickers of drugs and humans turn around. Do not enter Goliad County or we will hunt you down and throw you in jail.”

Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief October 10, 2022
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • KABUL HOUSE SEARCHES, PD 15 – A large-scale search operation was noted in the Hangara neighborhood of Police District 15 last night. The searches extended to vehicles and personal searches of pedestrians along streets. Some eyewitnesses reported having their phones searched and one overheard a Taliban Ministry of the Interior mentioning the ‘Stop Hazara Genocide’ campaign during a discussion with subordinates. It is possible the searches were prompted by online social activism during the two-day global campaign. No arrests have been reported yet. It is possible this activity will continue as the Taliban continue to scour social media for dissidents located in Afghanistan. At-risk Afghans who may have participated in the online campaign should consider safeguarding their identities and take the precaution of uninstalling their social media accounts from their phones in the meantime.

  • NRF MOVES FORCES TO BADAKHSHAN – Several sources have reported the NRF has shifted forces to Badakhshan Province over the last few days. The forces appear to have been moved from less active Central Provinces. Sources stated the terrain in Badakhshan favors their tactical operational footing and the Taliban forces in the Province are disorganized and lack a unified command structure. Our analysis indicates the shift is favorable for the aforementioned tactical advantages but is also strategically wise due to the proximity to China’s border.

  • TALIBAN AND US INTELLIGENCE MEETING IN DOHA – International news sources have reported on a meeting between the Deputy Director of the CIA and the Taliban’s Chief of Intelligence in Doha. It is thought the two discussed possible collaboration in dealing with a resurgent ISIS in Afghanistan. While most Afghanistan observers have long thought lines of communication have been open between US intelligence and the Taliban, the outrage over the killing of the Al Qaeda leader seems to have tempered any information sharing lately. Counter-terrorism has long been seen as a bargaining chip for the Taliban in seeking recognition but is unlikely to shift the political roadblocks caused by the stance on gender freedoms and the treatment of former regime officials. No further information was available.

CONFLICT TRACKER
Faryab::Unidentified gunmen assassinated the Taliban’s provincial financed director, Abdul Rahman Munawar, near his home in the Qaisar district Saturday, The assassins escaped and a search for them is underway, No group has taken credit.
Baghlan: The NRF and Taliban security forces in the Qasan Valley are said to have been battling for the past several days in Andarab. Fighting is said to have been fierce. On Sunday the NRF claimed to have retaken the valley and forced the Taliban out. While casualties were reportedly high on both sides, an accurate count was not available.

NEXT 24 HOURS
HOME SEARCHES MAY SPREAD IN KABUL – As witnessed in PD 5, it is possible that Taliban house searches may spread to other districts in Kabul. In previous instances where homes have been searched, the Taliban used a somewhat methodical approach and moved from neighborhood to neighborhood. There does not appear to be a pattern to these searches. At-risk Afghans in Kabul should be prepared to see security activity in select Districts across the city. We have no information about searches outside of Kabul at this time.

Taliban Official Assassinated in Northern Afghanistan
[KhaamaPress] The Taliban
...Arabic for students...
Head of Economy for the northern Afghan province of Faryab, Abdul Rahman Munawar, was assassinated by unknown gunnies, local sources said.

According to local sources, unknown gunnies assassinated the Taliban official, Abdul Rahman Munawar, on Saturday, October 8, when he was on his way to his house.

The Taliban Head of Information and Culture for Faryab province, Shamsullah Mohammad, confirmed the veracity of the liquidation and said that the incident took place in a village in the Qaisar district of Faryab.

"Abdul Rahman Munawar, the head of economic affairs of the Taliban in this province, was killed by unknown gunnies while he was on his way home," Mohammadi told the media.

The Taliban information and culture official added that while the liquidation’s perpetrators were successful in escaping the scene, Taliban forces are still looking for them and that an investigation is ongoing.

The Taliban forces are actively looking for the two unidentified gunnies who killed Abdul Rahman Munawar.

Security officials for the Taliban have stated that they do not yet understand the motivation behind the murder and that no individual, group, or organization has grabbed credit as of yet.

This follows the Taliban’s assertions that they have established and upheld security in Afghanistan. However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
since the group seized power last year, the crime rate has increased, and even Taliban officials are not immune from becoming a victim.

Al-Shabaab's attack leaves five soldiers dead in Somalia's Puntland

state security forces in its latest kaboom, despite an ongoing crackdown against the al-Qaeda-linked group in southern Somalia.

The reports indicated that at least five PMPF soldiers were killed in an al-Shabaab IED attack in the Galgala area, which could trigger an onslaught against the krazed killers, with the government determined to eliminate the holy warriors and instill stability within the country and beyond its borders.

The soldiers met their deaths after their convoy was hit by the earth-shattering kaboom while their colleagues who were rushing to rescue them sustained injuries in the second blast.

The injured soldiers have been rushed to a hospital in Bossaso, a port city on the Gulf of Aden, and are currently undergoing treatment, while the dead have been taken for burial. This was the first major attack on the PMPF in months, with al-Shabaab targeting security officers.

Al-Shabaab faces military pressure in the South and is trying to escape to northern regions, including Puntland, where the group has bases in the Galgala mountains.

Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS] and the US Africa Command have been descending on al-Shabaab, making significant gains in central and southern parts of the country according to military reports.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who assumed power in June in his second stint, has vowed to defeat the krazed killers, noting that he will use both the military and ideologies to counter the group. Somalia has identified sources of revenue for al-Shabaab and is hell-bent to destroy them.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Information also identified a number of social media accounts that are used by the holy warriors to spread propaganda to the group. al-Shabaab's websites have also been identified and the government has ordered their immediate shutdown.

Dozens of al-Shabaab holy warriors were killed since last month during military operations, according to SNA statistics with al-Shabaab also claiming sporadic attacks which left dozens of SNA officials dead. The US has strongly pledged to continue supporting Somalia in the fight against violent mostly peaceful extremism.

HMS Montrose: Royal Navy seizes drugs worth 15m in Arabian Sea
[BBC] The Royal Navy has seized drugs worth more than £15m from a boat in the Arabian Sea.

Hundreds of kilograms of crystal methamphetamine were recovered from the dhow by the crew of HMS Montrose in a six-hour operation.

It was the fifth drugs raid by the frigate this year.

HMS Montrose's commanding officer said the seizure was a huge blow to criminal gangs and terrorists using drugs to fund their activities.

"Disrupting terrorist organisations, criminals and their funding lines is key to keeping to UK, and rest of the world, safe," Commander Claire Thompson said.

A Navy spokesman said HMS Montrose sent a helicopter to track the movements of a suspect boat before specialist Royal Marines from 42 Commando seized control of it in choppy conditions.

An initial search turned up some drugs and the boarding team of sailors and Marines then found a hidden compartment behind a false bulkhead on the small boat.

In total, there was 870kg (1,918lb) of crystal methamphetamine on board, which the National Crime Agency said had a wholesale value of £15.5m.

HMS Montrose, based in Devonport, Plymouth, has been deployed in the Middle East since 2019.

It has seized an estimated £47m worth of drugs and two illegal arms shipments so far this year.

The frigate is part of the Saudi-led Combined Task Force 150, a partnership of 38 nations involved in maritime security operations across the Red and Arabian Seas, and parts of the Indian Ocean.

Cartel Gunmen Leave Dismembered Body near Texas Border with Message to Mexican Army
[Breitbart] Cartel gunmen captured, murdered, and dismembered one of their rivals and left his remains inside an ice chest next to a posterboard supporting the Mexican military. The gruesome crime scene occurred in Tamaulipas, just a short distance from the Texas-Mexico border.

This week, members of the Gulf Cartel left the dismembered body of a man suspected of being a member of the Cartel Del Noreste faction of Los Zetas inside and next to an ice chest. The incident took place in a neighborhood in the Mexican border city of Miguel Aleman, Tamaulipas, just south of Roma, Texas. The gunmen left the victim’s torso outside wrapped in a blanket, while the head and limbs were inside a red ice chest.

Next to the body, the gunmen left a posterboard with a message claiming that the Gulf Cartel did not have a conflict with the Mexican Army, but that the conflict was at the hands of the CDN-Los Zetas who they claim were behind the kidnappings and killings of innocent locals.

“The SEDENA (Mexican Army) is to be respected,” the message revealed.

In recent weeks, Miguel Aleman experienced a dramatic rise in violence as gunmen from the Cartel Del Noreste faction of Los Zetas attempted to move in and take over lucrative drug and human smuggling corridors currently controlled by the Gulf Cartel. The region around Miguel Aleman, a small border city of 27,000 residents, has a long history of being the busiest trafficking corridor for the Gulf Cartel due to the lack of physical barriers. This leaves only the shallow waters of the Rio Grande as the only obstacle for smugglers.

After a seven-month manhunt, PMF arrests an ISIS security officer in Baghdad
[ShafaqNews] al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces-PMF) said it had apprehended a senior ISIS commander after a seven-month manhunt, the PMF's preemptive security division said in a statement on Sunday.

The wanted ISIS figure was captured in a security operation in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, the statement said.

The arrestee, according to the statement, served as a security officer in the Islamic police in the so-called Wilayat of Nineveh.

Israeli troops hunt for shooter in deadly Jerusalem attack
Followup to this story from yesterday.
[An Nahar] Israeli police arrested at least three Paleostinian suspects Sunday in connection with a deadly shooting at a Jerusalem checkpoint, as security forces searched for the suspected gunman.

The shooter opened fire on a military checkpoint in east Jerusalem late Saturday, killing a female Israeli soldier and wounding three other soldiers, one of them seriously. The Israeli military identified the soldier as 18-year-old Noa Lazar.

It was the latest bloodshed in the deadliest violence in the region in seven years. It also came less than a day before Israel was to begin celebrating the weeklong Sukkot holiday, a time when tens of thousands of Jews visit the holy city.

Police said a large force of officers, soldiers and Shin Bet security agency operatives were involved in the search to apprehend the Paleostinian attacker.

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid offered condolences to Lazar's family. "We will not be silent and we will not rest until we bring the abominable killers to justice," he said.

The attack came hours after two Paleostinian teenagers were killed during an Israeli military raid in the occupied West Bank. A day earlier, two other Paleostinian teenagers, ages 14 and 17, were killed by Israeli fire in separate incidents elsewhere in the West Bank.

Rights groups accuse Israeli forces of using excessive force in their dealings with the Paleostinians, particularly young men, without being held accountable. The military says it contends with complex, life-threatening scenarios.

Israel captured east Jerusalem, along with the West Bank and Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip, in the 1967 Mideast war and annexed the area in a move that is not recognized internationally. It considers the entire city, including east Jerusalem, home to the city's most important holy sites, to be its capital. The Paleostinians claim east Jerusalem for the capital of a future state with the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
That claim and $5 might get them a cup of coffee.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
US says failed rocket attack targeted troops in Syria
[Rudaw] The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Saturday that a rocket attack targeting its forces in northeast Syria failed, without resulting in any casualties or impacting the base.

"This evening at approximately 10:12 p.m. local time in Syria, a 107mm rocket attack targeting Coalition Forces near the Rumalyn Landing Zone failed," a CENTCOM statement read. It added that an investigation was launched and that other rockets were found the launch site.

The failed attack comes hours after the Syrian ministry of foreign affairs called on the US to immediately withdraw its "illegal forces" from Syrian territory, accusing Washington of stealing Syrian oil and sending it across the border to "northern Iraq."

Hundreds of US troops stationed in eastern Syria have fought alongside the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS). Last month, at the UN General Assembly meeting, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs Faisal Mekdad
...Syrian foreign minister, formerly Perrmanent envoy to the UN. He replaced Wally Muallem, who died in office at age 79, having been FM since approximately age 12...
said the presence of the coalition "should end immediately," adding that it contradicts international law.

The tweets by the ministry added that Syria will demand compensation from the US for its "losses", likely referring to the joint control between the US and SDF over key oilfields in the country’s east.

Last month, at least three rockets targeted the Green Village military installation, housing coalition forces in Deir ez-Zor province.

There have been at least 20 rocket and drone attacks against sites housing American troops in Iraq and Syria this year, according to data compiled by Rudaw English. Such attacks are often attributed to Iran-backed militias and factions, but have never been claimed.

On Thursday, CENTCOM announced it had killed three senior ISIS officials during two separate operations in Syria. The two operations are the latest in a series of US attacks against senior ISIS officials, with the terror group continuing to pose a serious threat to Syria and Iraq despite being territorially defeated.

2 killed as demonstrations around Iran enter 4th week
[An Nahar] Anti-government demonstrations erupted Saturday in several locations across Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
as the most sustained protests in years against a deeply entrenched theocracy entered their fourth week. At least two people were killed.

Marchers hollered poorly rhymed slogans against the government and twirled headscarves in repudiation of coercive religious dress codes. In some areas, merchants shuttered shops in response to a call by activists for a commercial strike or to protect their wares from damage.

Later Saturday, hackers broke into the evening news on Iran's state TV for 15 seconds, just as footage of the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...
, was being broadcast. The hackers flashed an image of Khamenei surrounded by flames. A caption read "Join us and stand up!" and "The blood of our youth is dripping from your claws," a reference to Khamenei.

A song with the lyrics "Woman. Life. Freedom" — a common chant of the protesters — played in the background.

The protests erupted Sept. 17, after the burial of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish woman who had died in the custody of Iran's feared morality police. Amini were tossed into the calaboose for an alleged violation of strict Islamic dress codes for women. Since then, protests spread across the country and were met by a fierce crackdown, in which dozens are estimated to have been killed and hundreds arrested.

In the city of Sanandaj in the Kurdish-majority northern region, one man was rubbed out Saturday while driving a car in a major thoroughfare, rights monitors said. The La Belle France-based Kurdistan Human Rights Network and the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, said the man was shot after honking at security forces stationed on the street. Honking has become one of the ways activists have been expressing civil disobedience. Video circulating online showed the slain man slumped over the steering wheel, as distraught witnesses shouted for help.

The semi-official Fars news agency, believed to be close to the elite paramilitary force, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, said Kurdistan's police chief denied reports of using live rounds against protesters.

Fars claimed that people in Sanandaj's Pasdaran Street said the victim was shot from inside the car without elaborating. But photos of the dead man indicate that he was shot from his left side, meaning he likely was not shot from inside the car. The blood can be seen running down the inside of the door on the driver's side.

A second protester was killed after security forces fired gunshots to disperse crowds in the city and 10 protesters were maimed, the rights monitors said.

A general strike was observed in the city's main streets amid a heavy security presence and protesters burned tires in some areas. Patrols have deterred mass gatherings in Sanandaj but isolated protests have continued in the city's densely populated neighborhoods.

Demonstrations were also reported in the capital Tehran on Saturday, including small ones near the Sharif University of Technology, one of Iran's premier centers of learning and the scene of a violent mostly peaceful government crackdown last weekend. Authorities have closed the campus until further notice.

Images on social media showed protests also took place in the northeastern city of Mashhad.

Other protests erupted at Azad University in northern Tehran, in other neighborhoods of the capital and in the city's bazaar. Many shops were closed in central Tehran and near the University of Tehran.

President Ebrahim Raisi in a meeting with students from the all-female al-Zahra University in Tehran alleged again that foreign enemies were responsible for fomenting the protests. He has made the claim without giving specifics or providing any evidence.

"The enemy thought that it can pursue its desires in universities while unaware that our students and teachers are aware and they will not allow the enemies' vain plans to be realized," he said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the dirigible, the gondola was dangling by a single thread of rope.
