Report: Raiders HC Jon Gruden Under Fire For Racially Insensitive Email, Faces Discipline
[OutKick] A Wall Street Journal report broke on Friday chronicling a potentially insensitive racial remark made by Raiders head coach Jon Gruden regarding NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith.

According to the report, Gruden sent out an email to then-Washington Redskins general manager Bruce Allen, mocking Smith in the midst of an impending league lockout imposed by the owners.

Gruden allegedly sent out an email containing the following message: "Dumboriss Smith has lips the size of michellin tires," which has spawned outrage due to its underlying criticism of Smith’s appearance as a Black man. The email was traced to 2011 when Gruden was working as a sportscaster for the Monday Night Football booth on ESPN.
Lately, with all the woke bullcrap, I've lost interest in the Raiders along with the entire NFL and especially with the networks that broadcast their games on television. But then, I am also a longtime Raider fan so if Gruden, aka Chucky, is in the news it gets my attention.

Anyway, if you really want a hoot, follow the link and read the comments.

Dry year leaves Syria wheat farmers facing crop failure, drought also in Somalia
[AlAhram] After Syrian farmer Abdelbaqi Souleiman lost his last wheat crop to a wildfire, he had hoped for a better harvest this summer. But this spring there was hardly any rain.

"Last year the field I planted was burnt to the ground," said the 48-year-old.

"This year there wasn't enough rain, and we didn't harvest any wheat."

As man-made climate change increases the likelihood of drought and wildfires worldwide, Syria has also been hit hard by low rainfall this year, especially in its breadbasket Hasakeh province.

In the Kurdish-run northeastern region, dismal wheat harvests have raised alarm about food security in a war-torn country where 60 percent of people already struggle to buy food.

In Hasakeh, humanitarian agencies estimate crop production to have dropped by more than 95 percent compared to last year in large parts of the province.

Souleiman said the lack of downpour, coupled with the high price of fuel for irrigation, seeds and fertiliser, had made growing the rain-fed cereal a near mission impossible.

"At this rate, we'll have to stop growing wheat," he said in the village of Tal Shaeer.

"Farmers are going to have to start planting herbs like coriander and cumin because it's cheaper and they sell for more."

'SELLING OUR WOMEN'S GOLD'
Outside the town of Qahtaniyah in the same province, Hajji Mohammed, 71, said he and his neighbours had also fallen on rough times.

"Farming has become a loss-making business," said the agricultural worker of 45 years in the village of Kardeem Haleema.

"If there's no rain this year, most people will move away."

After years of losses, the family had next to no resources left with which to launch into another season.

"We're trying to sell our women's gold or furnishings so we can buy the seeds," he said.

Before the war erupted in 2011, Syria produced up to 4 million tonnes of wheat a year -- enough to feed its entire population, but harvests have since plunged to record lows, increasing dependence on imports.

The agriculture minister in Damascus said last month the country produced 900,000 tonnes of the grain this year, less than half of the two million tonnes needed.

Salman Barodo, co-president of the economy and agriculture commission with the Kurdish authorities, said this year's harvest had fallen far short of demand for the region's bakeries.

"In previous years, we'd reap more than 600,000 tonnes of wheat," he said. It was enough for flour, seeds for the following season, and a little left over in reserve.

"But this year it was just 184,000 to 185,000."

HARVEST 'VERY LOW'
The poor harvest comes as the whole of northeast Syria is already facing a humanitarian disaster this year, aid agencies have warned, as low rainfall has also drastically depleted water levels along the Euphrates river.

This has threatened electricity production and drinking water supplies, and complicated access to the river for irrigation.

In the neighbouring province of Raqa, 42-year-old wheat farmer Ahmed al-Humaidi said he had briefly considered switching to irrigation to save his crop.

"We thought of drawing water from the Euphrates... but we were not able to because of the high cost" of equipment and fuel, he said in the village of Salhabiyah.

Mike Robson, the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organisation in Syria, said the rainy season ended unusually early in March this year.

High temperatures the following month then prevented the grains from filling out properly.

"We don't yet have the full final numbers for the harvest for this year, but we're expecting it to be very low -- possibly about half the figure for last year," he said.

This would likely mean more price hikes, and more families struggling to feed themselves.

Already, the World Food Programme said in February that a staggering 12.4 million people in Syria -- out of an estimated population of 20 million -- were food insecure.

"We're expecting a further increase," Robson said.

Amid Al-Shabaab menace, drought hits Somalia's Jubaland
It sounds like this is common in that part of the world.
[Garowe] The Jubaland state is facing possible humanitarian challenges, following an unprecedented drought that has wreaked havoc in most parts of Afmadow district, just near the border of Kenya in Western Somalia.

According to reports from the Lower Jubba region, severe drought has hit parts of Afmadow, Dhobley, and Kulbiyow, which are also facing al-Shabaab

, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...

threats as Somali and Kenyan troops are in charge of the security.

Images taken from the region indicate that water reservoirs dried up and animals are dying,
...is it time to make sausage?
making it difficult for the human population to survive in the coming weeks. Most hit areas include villages that come under the district of Afmadow.

Already, the Jubaland administration under the stewardship of Ahmed Islam Mohammed Farmaajo has issued an alarm over the severe drought in the Lower Juba region, which has killed most livestock and caused severe water shortages.

Although water trucking has begun in the region, the Jubaland administration has appealed for greater support for those affected by the drought. Humanitarian agencies have been requested to chip in expeditiously to curb the possible loss of lives.

A video shared by officials from the area shows the scale of the drought, lack of water, and desperation of the population. This was filmed in Lower Juba recently, possibly in the vicinity of Afmadow according to the source who provided it.

The Jubaland state has issued an alarm over the severe drought in the Lower Juba region, which has killed most livestock and caused severe water shortages.

Being an arid area, Somalia receives rains once a year and most locals depend on water reservoirs for the better part of the year. Even when it rains, several parts of the country also tackle severe flooding, making it impossible for water harvesting.

The affected areas are also prone to al-Shabaab attacks but the presence of the Somali National Army [SNA] and AMISOM have greatly transformed the region. The al-Shabaab bandidos bully boyz have recently lost key strategic towns in some of these regions.

[REGNUM ] In Ethiopia, the armed forces have launched a major offensive against insurgent units of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Tigraya (PNLF)
...there are a number of versions of their name, but basically they’re ethnic revolutionary Communists — Stalinist type. They appeared in 1975, with fellow Communist groups conquered Ethiopia by 1991, and were finally driven out of office in 2018. They’ve not taken their exile from power well...
in Amhara state, Bloomberg reported on October 9.

"The federal forces are carrying out mainly air strikes, including the use of drones, and artillery is also involved," the statement said.

As reported by IA REGNUM , in the Ethiopian region of Tigray, the armed conflict has been going on for more than ten months. The forces of the Ethiopian government are at war with the detachments of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Tigray. Oi, you lot? UK's flag carrier to get rid of 'ladies and gentlemen' greeting for the sake of diversity
[RT] British Airways have intrustructed its pilots to no longer address passengers as ladies and gentlemen, keeping the greetings gender-neutral instead. The change in policy has been touted as a nod to "inclusion and diversity."
"Diversity is our strength." Dat's logic, right?
The UK’s flag carrier has become the latest airline to replace the traditional greeting with a gender-neutral alternative, the Telegraph reported on Sunday. The change in policy has been made to avoid discriminating against the passengers who do not fall under either of the two categories, such as children, as well as "to respect new social norms," the newspaper reported. The BA spokesperson has appeared to confirm the move towards the "woke speak," noting the company’s commitment to "inclusion and diversity." "We're committed to ensuring that all our customers feel welcome when travelling with us," the BA spokesperson said.

Russian Ministry of Justice included nine journalists and three companies in the register of foreign media agents
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[TASS] The Russian Ministry of Justice has included nine journalists and three companies, including the owner of Bellingcat, on the register of foreign media agents. TASS was informed about this on Friday in the press service of the Ministry of Justice.

"On October 8, 2021, in pursuance of the requirements of the current legislation of the Russian Federation, Galina Yurievna Arapova, Tatyana Anatolyevna Voltskaya, Andrey Vyacheslavovich Zakharov, Ekaterina Dmitrievna Klepikovskaya, Roman Perl Perl, Evgeny Alekseevich Simonov, Elena Solovieva were included in the register of foreign media performing the functions of a foreign agent. Anatolyevna, Daniil Vladimirovich Sotnikov, Elizaveta Dmitrievna Surnacheva, "the message says.

The register also includes MEMO LLC, the American company Mason GES Anonymous Foundation, which is the owner of the online publication mnews.world, and Stichting Bellingcat, registered in the Netherlands on July 11, 2018.

Among the journalists are former and current employees of the Russian service of the BBC, Dozhd, Nastostvennoye Vremya, 7x7, Radio Liberty.

In total, 85 individuals and legal entities are currently in the register of foreign media agents. The law on foreign media agents in Russia was passed in 2017 after the US Department of Justice required RT America (a branch of a Russian television company) to register as a foreign agent in the United States.

The same requirements were applied to media-foreign agents as to non-profit organizations - foreign agents. They are obliged to provide data on the personnel of the management, expenditure of funds, audit, as well as label their materials with an indication of the status of the media-foreign agent.

China-Japan-Koreas
China's Xi vows 'reunification' with Taiwan
(Reuters) - Chinese President Xi Jinping vowed on Saturday to achieve "peaceful reunification" with Taiwan, and did not directly mention the use of force after a week of tensions with the Chinese-claimed island that sparked international concern.

Taiwan responded to Xi by calling on Beijing to abandon its coercion, reiterating that only Taiwan's people could decide their future.

Democratically ruled Taiwan has come under increased military and political pressure from Beijing to accept its sovereignty, but Taipei has pledged to defend its freedom.

Speaking at Beijing's Great Hall of the People, Xi said the Chinese people have a "glorious tradition" of opposing separatism.

"Taiwan independence separatism is the biggest obstacle to achieving the reunification of the motherland, and the most serious hidden danger to national rejuvenation," he said on the anniversary of the revolution that overthrew the last imperial dynasty in 1911.

Peaceful "reunification" best meets the overall interests of the Taiwanese people, but China will protect its sovereignty and unity, he added.

"No one should underestimate the Chinese people's staunch determination, firm will, and strong ability to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity," Xi said. "The historical task of the complete reunification of the motherland must be fulfilled, and will definitely be fulfilled."

He struck a slightly softer tone than in July, his last major speech mentioning Taiwan, in which he vowed to "smash" any attempts at formal independence. In 2019, he directly threatened to use force to bring the island under Beijing's control.

'PROVOCATIVE STEPS'
Still, the speech was poorly received in Taiwan.

The presidential office said they were a sovereign independent country, not part of the People's Republic of China, and had clearly rejected China's offer of "one country, two systems" to rule the island.

"The nation's future rests in the hands of Taiwan's people," the office said.

In a separate statement, Taiwan's China-policy making Mainland Affairs Council called on Beijing to "abandon its provocative steps of intrusion, harassment and destruction" and return to talks.

A U.S. State Department spokesperson reiterated Washington's "rock-solid" commitment to Taiwan and said the United States will "continue to support a peaceful resolution of cross-Strait issues, consistent with the wishes and best interests of the people on Taiwan."

"We urge Beijing to cease its military, diplomatic, and economic pressure against Taiwan and instead engage in meaningful dialogue with Taiwan," the spokesperson said.

China's air force mounted four straight days of incursions into Taiwan's air defence identification zone from Oct. 1, involving close to 150 aircraft, though those missions have since ended. Xi made no mention of those flights.

Taiwan officially calls itself the Republic of China, the name of the country established in 1912 after the fall of the Qing dynasty.

That government fled to Taiwan in 1949 after losing a civil war with the Communists, who set up today's People's Republic.

Taiwan marks Oct. 10, the date when the anti-imperial revolution began in China, as its national day, and President Tsai Ing-wen will give a keynote address in Taipei on Sunday.

Tsai, speaking at a pre-national day reception at an air base in northern Taiwan's Hsinchu on Saturday night, thanked the armed forces for protecting Taiwan, though did not mention the tensions with China.

"We will continue to work hard to hold fast the front lines of democracy and freedom," she said.

China commemorates the revolution by harking back to republican leader Sun Yat-sen's calls for patriotism, national rejuvenation and good governance.

Xi used the speech to underscore the need for "a strong force to lead the country, and this strong force is the Chinese Communist Party".

"Without the Chinese Communist Party, there would not be a New China, and therefore no rejuvenation of the Chinese people," he said.

Xi has tightened party control in all aspects of life and is almost certain to break protocol and stay on as Communist Party boss for a third term late next year, when a congress will elect a new leadership for the following five years.

Rep. Mike Waltz: We're Funding ‘Existential Threat' from China, Time to Boycott China
[Breitbart] On Friday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s "Fox & Friends," Rep. Michael Waltz (R-FL) stated that the U.S. is funding "an absolute existential threat to our way of life," from China with our own money and urged people to boycott Chinese goods, and to "draw the line with all of these companies that have no problem boycotting Georgia, and their freely-elected legislature," but do business with China.

Waltz said, [relevant remarks begin around 3:40] "This is an absolute existential threat to our way of life, but we are fueling it from right here in the United States with our own money, with our trade deficit, with our pension funds in Wall Street that are investing over into China and fueling their military build-up. So, my call to action...is when you pick up an item in Wal-Mart or you see it on Amazon, if it says, ’Made in China,’ put it down. We have to stand up and act and we have to draw the line with all of these companies that have no problem boycotting Georgia, and their freely-elected legislature, but yet when they’re making billions over on the backs of slave labor from a country that is persecuting Christians, right now as we speak. We need to, as conservatives, stand up and take a stand."

#2  Number Crunching The Provided VAERS Data

ADVERSE REACTIONS
USA Covi-19 Vaccine (Dec’2020 – present)= 593,728
ALL USA OTHER VACCINES TOGETHER (since 1990)= 723,780.
Note: 11 months vs. 30 years

Using these figures and multiplying the Covid-19 Vaccine out over 30 years.
Would mean we could expect 17,811,840 Adverse Reactions for just the Covid-19 Vaccine alone. While there have been only 723,780 for ALL other vaccines together over the same equal time frame.

A 2,360.9% increase in Adverse Reactions for just the Covid-19 Vaccine, vs ALL OTHER vaccines put together.

Doing the same with DEATHS caused by Covid-19 Vaccine, vs. all others over a 30 year period is even worse.

Covid-19 Vaccine Deaths (30 x 7,437) = 223,110
Vs. all Other Vaccines deaths over the last 30 years = 5,129

It seems to mean taking the Covid-19 Vaccine increase you chance of dying 4,249.9%
more likely, than taking ALL OF THE OTHER Vaccines together. But in all honesty I
must add the VAST MAJORITY of those dying are in the Elderly age groups like
myself.
>Note: According to the the charts most deaths happen within 2 days of Covid-19 vaccination.

BTW: As some may remember what I said about 9 or so months ago...
That I'll wait an see the what the long term data affects are BEFORE getting VAX'd.

#3  Just say a comment elsewhere by Glenn Greenwald (yeah, I know) Number of people under age 18 in the US - 74 million. Number that died of COVID cumulative - 499.

#4  Did they die OF the vaccine or WITH the vaccine?

I mean, that was a critical question about the virus, so why isn't it equally applied here?

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Assad's Uncle Returns Home from Decades-Long Exile
[AnNahar] The uncle of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Before going into the family business Pencilneck was an eye doctor. If he'd stuck with it he'd have had a good practice by now...
has returned home from 36 years of exile to dodge arrest in La Belle France, the pro-government al-Watan newspaper reported.

Rifaat al-Assad, 84, arrived in Damascus on Thursday, al-Watan said on its Facebook page, nearly a month after a Gay Paree appeals court upheld a four-year prison sentence issued against him last year for misappropriating public funds in Syria, laundering the spoils and building a vast property portfolio in La Belle France with ill-gotten gains.

Formerly Syria's vice president, Rifaat al-Assad left his home country in 1984 after mounting a failed coup against his brother Hafez, who led Syria from 1971 to 2000.

"In order to prevent his imprisonment in La Belle France ... President Assad rises above what Rifaat al-Assad has said and done and allows him to return to Syria," al-Watan said.

Rifaat is not expected to take up any political role, al-Watan added.

Dubbed the "Butcher of Hama" for his alleged role in putting down an uprising in central Syria in 1982, Assad has been under investigation in La Belle France since 2014.

He was tried for crimes allegedly committed between 1984 and 2016, including aggravated tax fraud and misappropriation of Syrian funds.

A Gay Paree court last June dismissed charges against Assad for the period 1984 to 1996, but found him guilty of organized laundering of funds embezzled from the Syrian public purse between 1996 and 2016. He was also convicted of tax fraud.

Last month, the Gay Paree appeals court upheld the verdict against him.

He may not have to serve in prison given his advanced age, but the confiscation of his French real estate assets, worth an estimated 90 million euros ($106 million), ordered at his initial trial, will now go ahead.

His French fortune includes two townhouses in chic Gay Pareeian neighborhoods, a stud farm, about 40 apartments, and a chateau.

Assad and his family also built up a huge portfolio of properties in Spain, valued at around 695 million euros, which were all seized by the authorities in 2017.
