-Short Attention Span Theater-
ESPN To $hitcan Hundreds, Blames Coronavirus And Not Lefty Politics
In completely unsurprising news...
[Zero Hedge] - Things look like they are going just splendidly in the world of sports in 2020.

In addition to having to deal with the public's incessant fear of coronavirus (despite the fact that none of the scores of professional athletes in the U.S. that have tested positive have wound up visibly sick or in the hospital, let alone dead, from the virus), major professional sports leagues have also decided to play politics, injecting themselves into the heart of a nationwide racism uproar, instead of basketball and football.

In addition to ratings plunging for both the NBA and the NFL this year, the "get woke, go broke" results continue to take hold.

Now, ESPN is making another round of sweeping layoffs. It's blaming the coronavirus, naturally, because it certainly can't blame its own politicized discussions during almost every major sporting event it has broadcast over the last few months.

According to NJ.com, the network is trying to cut "tens of millions" in salary:

One source pegged the potential number of job losses between 300 and 700 employees. Another estimated 400 possible lost jobs. The cuts are expected to hit hardest among ESPN employees who work behind the camera. But some on-camera TV and radio talents could be impacted — particularly if their contracts are expiring this year. The network may also ask its highest-earning talent and executives to take a reduction in salary. The goal is to potentially cut tens of millions in salary, said sources.

The cuts come right after ESPN's parent company, Disney, also announced a sweeping round of more than 25,000 job cuts days ago.

This will be reevaluated in three to six months, when the next round of shit financial performance is realized and the inevitable next round of 'restructuring' commences. There is simply nothing on the current sports landscape worth watching and I don't see that changing for at least six months. Even then, some people (like most of you) have already permanently checked out, never to return. Great work, guys & gals - here's your severance check!

Nevada health officials order nursing homes to STOP using rapid COVID-19 tests after finding 60% of positive results were false

#2  To be fair Nev."may" have gotten a bad batch like Atlanta did about 2 months ago. Where unused tests kits were sampled and found to produced False Positives.

The Industry has had to acknowledge FALSE Positive issues ranging from 16% to 31%, depending of the lot and batch produced.

Note: An estimated 14+ million of these quick detection tests were produced and a majority already used. So pick a ##% and apply it to the 7,528,313 that the CDC reported infected as of 10-08-20.

2.8% is the "claimed" overall mortality Rate out of the 7,528,313 "claimed" to be infected out of 342,000,000 in the USA as Oct.08th, 2020.

So the odds work out to 0.0617345029239766% in our USA Population of 342,000,000, possibly dying from C-19.

BTW: Cancer beats out C-19 ... 3 to 1 easily.

WHO (Accidentally) Confirms Covid is No More Dangerous Than Flu (Head of Health Emergencies Program "best estimates" put IFR at 0.14%)

[Off-Guardian] The World Health Organization has finally confirmed what we (and many experts and studies) have been saying for months – the coronavirus is no more deadly or dangerous than seasonal flu.

The WHO's top brass made this announcement during a special session of the WHO's 34-member executive board on Monday October 5th, it's just nobody seemed to really understand it.

In fact, they didn't seem to completely understand it themselves.

At the session, Dr Michael Ryan, the WHO's Head of Emergencies revealed that they believe roughly 10% of the world has been infected with Sars-Cov-2. This is their "best estimate", and a huge increase over the number of officially recognised cases (around 35 million).

Dr. Margaret Harris, a WHO spokeswoman, later confirmed the figure, stating it was based on the average results of all the broad seroprevalence studies done around the world.

As much as the WHO were attempting to spin this as a bad thing – Dr Ryan even said it means "the vast majority of the world remains at risk." – it's actually good news. And confirms, once more, that the virus is nothing like as deadly as everyone predicted.

The global population is roughly 7.8 billion people, if 10% have been infected that is 780 million cases. The global death toll currently attributed to Sars-Cov-2 infections is 1,061,539.

That's an infection fatality rate of roughly or 0.14%. Right in line with seasonal flu and the predictions of many experts from all around the world.

0.14% is over 24 times LOWER than the WHO's "provisional figure" of 3.4% back in March. This figure was used in the models which were used to justify lockdowns and other draconian policies.

In fact, given the over-reporting of alleged Covid deaths, the IFR is likely even lower than 0.14%, and could show Covid to be much less dangerous than flu.

None of the mainstream press picked up on this. Though many outlets reported Dr Ryan's words, they all attempted to make it a scary headline and spread more panic.

Apparently neither they, nor the WHO, were capable of doing the simple maths that shows us this is good news. And that the Covid sceptics have been right all along.

7 held for rape in 6 districts
[PUBLISH.TWITTER] Govt amending law with death penalty for rapists
[Dhaka Tribune] The Law Ministry is proposing the death penalty
as the highest punishment for rape.

The draft of the proposed amendment to the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000 will be tabled at the next cabinet meeting for approval.

"We took the initiative at the directive of the prime minister," Law Minister Anisul Huq said on Thursday.

A series of rape incidents rocked Bangladesh in recent weeks triggering countrywide protests. According to Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK), between January and September this year, nearly 1,000 rape cases were reported, including 208 gang rapes.

"We’re proposing raising the highest punishment for rape to death penalty instead of life imprisonment," the minister said noting that there will be some minor changes too.

He said that they are proposing the amendments but it is up to the cabinet to decide.

He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
has disappeared from public view, according to a report.

Alina Kabaeva, 37, who reportedly gave birth to boys in April 2019 at a Moscow clinic, has not been seen since she was two months pregnant, the Sun reported.

Putin, who has two adult children with ex-wife Lyudmila Shkrebneva, has insisted he had no relationship with Kabaeva, a former deputy in his United Russia Party.

"Putin is an intensely private man. He has been hiding his two adult daughters under fake IDs for years," a Moscow source told the news outlet.

President Trump Is Outperforming His 2016 Polling in Swing States
[PJ] While the mainstream media is once again pushing the narrative of the inevitable coronation of the Democratic nominee, the polls might actually be telling a much different story than most headlines suggest.

According to Newsweek’s Katherine Fung, while "polls show that swing state voters may prefer Democratic nominee Joe Biden over President Donald Trump ... Trump is doing better than he was this time in 2016."

"According to an analysis from Real Clear Politics, Biden holds a 4.4 percentage point lead over the president in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida, North Carolina and Arizona," she explains. "However, Democrat Hillary Clinton was ahead of Trump by 4.8 points in these swing states this time in 2016—a slightly greater advantage than the one Biden currently has."

Biden’s leads in Pennsylvania and Michigan, two states Trump won, are also smaller than Clinton’s leads at this time four years ago. "The Real Clear Politics average shows that Biden is ahead with a 6.3 lead in Pennsylvania and a 6.2 advantage in Michigan. Comparably, Clinton was leading in these two states by 9.2 points and 9.6 points, respectively, this time in 2016."

Similarly, polls for Wisconsin and North Carolina show Biden with a smaller lead than they did for Hillary Clinton back in 2016.

The only outliers to this trend are Florida and Arizona. Biden’s lead in Florida is at 3.5, compared to Hillary’s 3.2 point lead in 2016. Biden also leads in Arizona by 3.4 points, compared to Trump’s 0.7 point advantage in 2016.

#1  Polls the ultimate fake news. When are the 'polling agencies' going to include the number of people reached and who hung up? If they have your phone number, they have your address.

#2  When are the 'polling agencies' going to include the number of people reached and who hung up?

Also release details about their sampling methodology and compare their presumed D:R:Independent split to actual, up-to-date registration data. Plus the data showing their turnout assumptions for each demo.

These Potemkin polls are deliberately undersampling pro-Trump, high-turnout voters, just as they did in 2016.

#3  There are no honest polls. They are all push polls that will show a huge Dem lead until the day before the election. Then, suddenly, the Dem lead will disappear and the pollsters will use that number to show how accurate they were all along.
Posted by: Iblis || 10/09/2020 10:23 Comments || Top||

#4  The best predictors are not BS polls with all their bias and sampling problems but actual elections - primaries and special elections - that happened earlier in the year. Sean Trende has been analyzing the data from Washington state's primaries since 2010 and found that it predicts about 90% of the November outcome.

Other political scientists have also analyzed actual primary results and have found the same thing: real election data is far more accurate than polling data.

This year's and 2018 data from primary elections predict a Trump victory in November. The polls are horseshit. Ignore them.

#6  I have serious doubts about a lot of those double digit polls that throw the average off. Biden might have a higher number than the despised Hillary, but will be surprised if the lack of enthusiasm for Biden translates into real votes Nov. 3rd.
Posted by: DarthVader || 10/09/2020 12:26 Comments || Top||

#7  At least half of these polls oversample Democrats; it happened in 2016 and it's happening again. I'm just waiting for CNN, etc. to do the 'ol "call FL for the Dem by 7:00 PM so they can try to depress the Panhandle vote". They do that one every stinking fucking time so this is just part of that strategy - to demoralize us. Not gonna happen, Fredo Cuomo (not the homo)!

#8  My favorite recent poll was post Pence/Harris by USA Today who didn't even list Pence as a potential debate winner.

They must have thought themselves clever by listing The Fly as a winner, pulling in some 20% of the vote.

Perhaps they thought that clever too. For me, they show how poor Harris did.

Toddler sexually assaulted, tortured to death in Charsadda
[DAILYTIMES.PK] Eight suspects were arrested after the body of a minor girl was found in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s town of Charsadda, police said on Thursday.According to police, the minor girl was kidnapped and then sexually assaulted before being brutally murdered, and her body bears torture marks.

Dr Maimuna at the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital said that an initial probe confirmed that the minor had been raped.

DNA samples of the girl have been sent to the Khyber Medical College, Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistain's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire...
and NADRA has also sought help from other agencies in this regard.

Police said the victim was kidnapped in Charsadda and the body was recovered in the Daudzai area of Peshawar. Her clothes were recovered from the same spot. Officials added that a special police team has already been formed to arrest the perpetrator.

The girl’s father had registered a complaint with the local cop shoppe after Zainab went missing on October 6. He had said in his police complaint that the girl went outside to play around 1pm and did not return home. He had added that the family looked at all possible places but did not find the toddler.

Top PLO official Saeb Erekat diagnosed with coronavirus
[IsraelTimes] Chief Paleostinian negotiator and longtime diplomat says he has light symptoms; PA President Abbas met him four days ago but has since tested negative.

Saab Erekat is considered to be at high risk for complications from the virus. He survived both a mild heart attack in 2012 and a 2017 lung transplant after years of suffering from pulmonary fibrosis, a condition which scars the lungs and damages their ability to circulate oxygen.

Last week, the Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, terror group announced that its deputy political chief, Saleh al-Arouri, had been diagnosed with coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
. Only a few days earlier, al-Arouri conducted talks in Istanbul with bigwigs from Fatah, the ruling party of the Paleostinian Authority.

So far, Hamas has not provided any updates on al-Arouri’s condition, nor has Fatah announced whether any members of its delegation were infected.

SpaceX makes 'final' attempt to buy out remaining residents of small Texas village to build private resort for Elon Musk's Starship space program - but the last 10 inhabitants are refusing to be 'bullied out of their homes'
[MAIL] Elon Musk’s SpaceX is said to be making its final attempt to buy out the remaining residents of Boca Chica Village to build a private resort to launch rockets into orbit – but the last 10 inhabitants of the Texas hamlet are refusing to budge.

Negotiations are said to have reached a crucial moment, with the company hinting that it may ‘pursue alternative approaches’ to advance with its ambitious plans for the area, according to Business Insider.

Musk began buying up homes and land in the area in 2015 to expand his SpaceX empire and build a test site for his Starship-Super Heavy program, a 394-foot-tall reusable rocket system.

When complete, the Starship could slash the cost of reaching space a hundredfold, while also enabling frequent and relatively affordable access to orbit, the moon, and Mars, as well as hypersonic travel around Earth.

But that dream, in addition to building a ‘resort’ for employees and important guests around the launch site, recently hit a major stumbling block.

The project’s future may now rest solely on persuading all who still live in the tiny town - most of whom are elderly or retired - to leave. And for them, Musk’s mission to Mars comes at a heavy cost for their once tranquil life on Earth.
