Ex-cop Brett Hankison indicted by Kentucky grand jury in shooting death of Breonna Taylor

#1  IIUC, Hankinson was charged with endangerment, not directly being responsible for Taylor's death. That's one thing I have read so far, anyway...

#2  Pretty important part -

A Kentucky grand jury has cleared current and former police officers in the shooting death of Breonna Taylor — indicting one ex-cop for “wantonly” firing shots into another apartment the night she died.

The 12 jurors returned three counts of wanton endangerment in the first degree against Brett Hankison for shooting his gun into an apartment next to Taylor’s.

#5  To me, castle doctrine rules. There are folks who do home invasions under the guise of no-knock raids. The only time there should be no-knock raids is if someone is willing to sign their career away, and not a new career, either.

#6  Riots are going to happen no matter what.

If they put the accused on a pyre and lit it, they would riot in celebration.

#7  No-knock raid is right there with high speed chase. Enough innocent people have been hurt or killed in wrecks brought on by high speed chases that they should just be against the law, period.

Surround the house, wait out whoever is inside.

#8  Meanwhile, a bit further north, didsomeone just try to pull off a hit on Orange M.?

You hear lots of talk about pitchforks, but rarely do you see two people arrested for carrying one -- plus a shovel (for unearthing a weapons cache), plus weapons, plus plans to blow up a school and... read Sam Faddis's analysis.

Perhaps nothing there, but what's been revealed is very disturbing.

The Grand Turk
East Med crisis, ties with Turkey to dominate next month's Northern Cyprus presidential polls
[DAILYSABAH] After months of delay due to the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
pandemic, the Ottoman Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is finally getting ready to hold its 10th presidential elections next month, with developments in the Eastern Mediterranean expected to dominate the race, alongside ties with Ankara.

Initially scheduled to take place on April 26, the elections, in which 11 candidates are expected to battle it out, were delayed until Oct. 11.

Although the number of candidates is relatively high, the polls have already signaled the favorites, with those leading being incumbent President Mustafa Akinci, Prime Minister Ersin Tatar, head of the center-left Republican Ottoman Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhurman and the Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Kudret Özersay.

The TRNC elects its president in a two-round election. If a candidate fails to appear as the front-runner in the first round, the second round takes place between only two of the leading candidates. A second vote is scheduled to take place on Oct. 18, if deemed necessary.

At the beginning of this year, Akinci declared he would run independently. He is the fourth president of the TRNC and has held the office since 2015.

Originally an architect, Akinci’s political career began with the mayorship of the Ottoman Turkish side of the capital province of Nicosia (Lefkosa), which lasted for 14 years. He was a member of the Communal Democracy Party (TDP), which was founded in 2007 with an emphasis on social democracy and a united Cyprus. This remained the case until his 2014 resignation.

In 2015, Akinci competed as an independent in the country's presidential elections and won with a 60.5% share of the votes in the second round. Over the course of his presidency, he has given importance to the resolution of the Cyprus issue, restarting negotiations with the leader of the Greek Cypriot administration, Nicos Anastasiades.

Mercenaries in Libya violate UN Security Council resolutions, Guterres says
[DAILYSABAH] "In Libya, fighting has subsided, but the massive buildup of mercenaries and weapons in flagrant violation of violating Security Council resolutions shows that the risk of renewed confrontation remains high," Secretary-General of the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
António Guterres
...Portuguese politician and diplomat, ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations. Previously, he was the UN High Commissioner for Refugees between 2005 and 2015. He was the Prime Minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002 and was the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party from 1992 to 2002. He served as President of the Socialist International from 1999 to 2005. In both a 2012 and 2014 poll, the Portuguese public ranked him as the best Prime Minister of the previous 30 years...
said Tuesday.

Speaking at the 75th General Assembly of the United Nations at its headquarters in New York, Guterres underlined the importance of unity for peace in Libya.

"We must all work together for an effective cease-fire agreement," he added during the assembly headed by Ambassador Volkan Bozkir, a Ottoman Turkish diplomat who now holds the office of the president of the U.N. General Assembly (UNGA).

Guterres also urged the resumption of political talks between the U.N.-recognized legitimate Government of National Accord (GNA) and the forces of putschist Gen. Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all. Actually, he is, but slowly...
who illegally holds some Libyan territory under his control.

During his speech, Guterres called for an end to all violent mostly peaceful conflicts, including that in Libya, as the world instead needed to focus on stopping the spread of the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
He pointed to some partial successes including cease-fires declared in Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
, Colombia and Cameroon.

Smart Shooter develops SMASH Hopper to be mounted on armored vehicles
[Jpost] Israeli small arms manufacturer Smart Shooter has released a light remote-controlled weapon station dubbed SMASH Hopper that can be mounted on an armored tactical vehicle and successfully hit moving targets both on the ground and in the air from more than 300m.

Weighing some 15 kg., the SMASH Hopper is a compact and easily deployable system that is controlled by an operator from a safe distance or from inside a protected vehicle when mounted on the Plasan Re’em Armored Toyota Hilux vehicle and provides a “one shot-one hit” capability.

Like other systems manufactured by Smart Shooter, it features a safe trigger mechanism and offers day and night capability with automatic scanning and target detection. The system can be deployed on various lightweight manned and unmanned vehicles and platforms.

SMASH Hopper can be used for multiple mission scenarios including force protection, border security, anti-drone, remote ambush, as well as low profile operations in complex urban environments.

Thousands of SMASH 2000 systems manufactured by Smart Shooter are in use by the IDF along the Gaza border and hundreds more are in use by the US Special Forces.

The SMASH 2000 gives troops a precision anti-drone system on their weapon with an attachable sighting device with built-in targeting algorithms that can track and hit drones and other airborne targets flying at high speed at ranges of up to 120 m. with the first shot.

According to Ahuvia, the SMASH Hopper still has several rounds of testing to go through before it becomes operational including designing and developing the system for remote-controlled vehicles.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Aoun warns Lebanon will go ''to hell'' unless government agreed
[THEBAGHDADPOST] President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
warned on Monday Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
was going "to hell" if a new government was not formed, and said agreeing one could need a miracle after positions had hardened between rival factions.

His televised address underlined the severe challenges facing French efforts to get Lebanon’s fractious leaders to form a new government and rescue the country from financial meltdown.

The crisis, exacerbated by the devastating August explosion at Beirut port, marks the worst threat to Lebanon’s stability since the 1975-90 civil war. A deadline agreed with Gay Paree for forming the government passed last week.

The process hit a logjam over the demand of Lebanon’s two dominant Shi’ite parties, Iran-backed Hezbollah and its ally the Amal Movement, to name Shi’ite ministers including the finance minister.

Aoun, a Hezbollah ally, said his proposals for compromise had not been accepted. He depicted the problem as a standoff between the Shi’ite parties on the one hand and Sunni Prime Minister-designate Mustapha Adib along with former prime ministers who support him on the other.

When asked where Lebanon was headed if there was no agreement, Aoun said "of course, to hell".

Asked by news hounds if his comments meant there was no hope of a new government, he said: "No, there might be a miracle".

"We are today facing a government formation crisis which should not have happened because the events that await Lebanon do not allow a minute to be wasted," said the president, a Maronite Christian under the country’s sectarian power-sharing system.

Aoun said the premier did not want to consult parliamentary blocs, which should not be excluded. At the same time, he added, it was not permissible for one party to impose ministers and the constitution did not allocate any ministry to any specific sect.

"With the hardening of positions there does not appear to be any solution on the horizon because all the proposed solutions amount to a ’victor and a vanquished’," he said.

Adib called earlier for all sides to cooperate to form a government and secure the immediate success of French efforts.

Last week, reports suggested Adib may step down. He had proposed switching control of ministries, some of which have been held by the same factions for years.

Zoom cancels Leila Khaled webinar at San Francisco State University
[Jpost] Khaled was a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), which hijacked El Al Flight 219 on September 6, 1970.

Due to the concerted efforts of many lawyers and activists, Zoom has cancelled a webinar hosted by San Francisco State University (SFSU) which was slated to feature Palestinian terrorist Leila Khaled as one of its guest speakers.

"Zoom is committed to supporting the open exchange of ideas and conversations, subject to certain limitations contained in our Terms of Service, including those related to user compliance with applicable US export control, sanctions, and anti-terrorism laws," Zoom said in a statement, according to the Lawfare Project. The newly-established #EndJewHatred movement was also involved in pressuring SFSU to prevent Khaled's talk.

Screaming 'Karen' attacks Native Americans staging a protest against Trump's border wall - and then mocks them when they refuse to fight back and start praying to their ancestors
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Video footage shows the woman pushing and shoving the Southern California Native Americans, who are part of a group called Defend Kumeyaay Land.

They had gathered at the site of the wall in San Diego County, California, to peacefully protest against the construction of the Mexico border wall.

The maskless woman shouts at the group, telling them to 'get the f*** out of here' and saying they are 'disturbing the job' of constructing Trump's border wall.

She hurls xenophobic remarks at them, telling them the land is hers and not theirs, but the protesters refuse to engage in a fight with her.

Kumeyaay land lies between San Diego and Baja California in Mexico.
