Afghanistan
Transferring 6 “Hardcore” Taliban Prisoners to Doha Ignites Protest
[KhaamaPress] The La Belle France’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday protested against the release of the two Taliban
...Arabic for students...
prisoners by Afghan government, according to sources, who are among the six "Hardcore" detainees transferred to Doha for direct supervision during the Intra-Afghan talks.

The two are convicted of killing at least two Frenchies in Afghanistan and has since then been in prison, including those who have direct links to killing a number of Australian counterparts in the country.

"The six will remain in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
until the end of November and could be transferred back to Kabul," one of the sources told Rooters.

Afghan government has released more than 500 Taliban prisoners — compromising its security — to pave the way for Intra-Afghan talks, which will determine the future of the country.

In return, the Taliban freed a finger-count Afghan commandos who have been languishing in holy warrior’s prisons.

The swap is compiled upon demands by the Taliban, who persisted to have their members released before Intra-Afghan talks, calling international allies’ attention for some prisoners had direct link to killing their people.

Earlier this week, the Taliban’s political office said a number of its detainees have not yet been released, which slows down the preparation for intra-Afghan talks to take place in Qatari capital Doha.

Mohammad Naeem Wardak, a front man for Taliban’s political office, said in a tweet once the process of freeing its prisoners are done, they will be ready to sit with Afghans and negotiate on peace in the country.

Taliban Have Not Cut Ties with Al-Qaida: Kenneth McKenzie Jr.
[KhaamaPress] United States Central Command, Gen. Kenneth McKenzie jr. say, "the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
have not cut ties with Alqaeda yet".

He said an article in the U.S-Taliban agreement in February points the group should cut ties with the al-Qaeda, but so far the Taliban maintained connections with the insurgency group.

He hopes the Taliban will completely cut their ties with the al-Qaeda and be ready for the peace dialogues.

US troops will be reduced from 8,600 to 4,500 in Afghanistan, and the remaining troops will be able to deal with the possible future threats in the region, he added.

Cyberattack on Greek Navy officers
[Jpost] "The attack was carried out by the Iranian hacker group called "Charming Kitten".

During the last few months, it was discovered that an Iranian hacker group attacked many officers from the Greek Navy. The goal of the attack was to breach the email and social media accounts of the officers.

The attack was carried out by a group of Iranian hackers called "Charming Kitten" or APT-35. The Iranian attack group is well-known in the world and has an infamous reputation. In the past, cyberattacks against US soldiers and military infrastructure as well as American scientists and nuclear infrastructure have been attributed to the group.

The Iranian attack group succeeded in breaching a large number of personal accounts and leaking personal details, documents, pictures and videos, lists of telephone numbers and addresses from the accounts, bank account details, credit card numbers and more. The attack was discovered by a team of IBM researchers who exposed videos in which the Iranian hackers are shown carrying out the attack on the Greek Navy officers.

It is not clear what motivated the Iranian attack group and why officers from the Navy of Greece in particular were attacked. The staff of IBM researchers did not report whether data was collected and used (for criminal or intelligence purposes) during the many cyberattacks of the Iranian group, or whether the Iranian hackers also succeeded in planting malware in the officers' computers or in the computer networks of the Greek Navy.

The cyberattack, perhaps for the first time publicly, raised misgivings and great concern among senior members of the military and the defense establishment in Greece over the capabilities to defend computer and data networks of the defense establishment. In this period of high tension in the Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea, it is possible that the Iranians acted in cooperation with the Turks and carried out the cyberattack for them, in light of the limited capabilities of the Turks in this field.

Fifth Column
Paleos Build Coalition with BLM Activists
[Dallas News] It was early June, and pro-Palestinian activists were marching in North Texas. They were apprehensive about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plan to annex territory in the occupied West Bank. But at several rallies, they were marching for a different cause ‐ an end to violence against Black people and an increased investment in communities of color.
Posted on-line August 26, but front page "news" for the Sunday edition.
Ask them how the Black Palestinians are treated in the Palestinian Territories, where they are the left-behind descendants of African slaves.
"Brothers and sisters, let's mobilize, let's organize … and let's unite our effort to change the system," said Fadya Risheq, president of the Dallas chapter of American Muslims for Palestine, or AMP-Dallas, at an Irving rally.

Pro-Palestinian activists say they have long emphasized building relationships with other marginalized communities, arguing that struggles for freedom and against oppression are interconnected. These activists marched with protesters in Ferguson, Mo., after the killing of Michael Brown by a police officer in 2014. The next year, over 1,000 Black activists signed a statement of solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

This spring, North Texas groups formed a coalition called In Defense of Black Lives-Dallas, which is part of the national umbrella group Movement for Black Lives. They invited the Palestine Action Committee of Texas, or PACT, to join, along with groups fighting for immigrant and undocumented rights.

But across the U.S., the pro-Palestinian stance of some groups within the social justice movement has disturbed pro-Israel Jewish groups.

Oregon Deputy Cancelled for Suggesting Antifa Set Wildires
'Cause Antifa would never do something like that. "Every county, every town, burn the forest to the ground." And even if they would you can't say so, so there.
[OregonLive] A Clackamas County Sheriff's deputy seen in a viral video making what the sheriff's office is calling "inappropriate statements," while on duty has been placed on administrative leave, the agency announced Saturday.

The deputy's remarks seemed to give credence to the idea that anti-fascists were causing havoc and possibly setting fires, unfounded rumors strenuously debunked by law enforcement.

"Antifa [bleep] are out here causing hell," the deputy says. "There's a lot of lives at stake and there's a lot of people's property at stake because these guys got some vendetta."

The deputy is heard on the video telling the person filming that deputies "need the public's help," with regards to anti-fascists. Numerous reports and photos of people being stopped by armed vigilantes in Clackamas County have been circulating on social media.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan: My entire nation is an army and we're not afraid to sacrifice martyrs
[WND] Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan long has declared his intention to restore the Ottoman Empire.

Time magazine notes Erdogan has been tightening "his grip on social media freedom" and even is considering pulling Turkey out of what "is known, now farcically, as the 2011 Istanbul Convention, a treaty of the Council of Europe that commits countries to protecting women from domestic violence."

There is truth in Erdogan's well-known attempts to "resurrect" the Ottoman Empire "or to style himself a sultan," Time said.

Now, the Middle East Media Research Institute says Erdogan has moved beyond his previous stance.

A good chunk of Turkey is other ethnicities, most of whom have scores to settle with the Turks.

I'd say clandestinely arming a lot of them and telling them they can keep what they loot would go a long ways to keeping Erdogan busy in his own yard.

US prepares to quit strategic Incirlik air base amid increasing Turkish belligerence
[ARAB NEWS] ANKARA: A provocative live-fire drill by the Turkish navy off the coast of Cyprus was branded illegal on Saturday, as reports emerged that the US is drawing up plans to withdraw from the strategic Incirlik air force base.

“We don’t know what’s going to happen to Incirlik,” Ron Johnson, the US senator who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee for Europe, told the Washington Examiner. “We hope for the best, but we have to plan for the worst.”

US withdrawal would be a blow to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, suggesting that the US no longer trusts him. “I think, from a defensive posture, we have to look at the reality of the situation that the path Erdogan is on is not good,” Johnson said.

Meanwhile Turkey is conducting naval gunnery exercises from Saturday until Monday off the coast at Sadrazamkoy in northern Cyprus, a part of the island controlled by Ankara but unrecognized by the rest of the world.

#10  The wind down in Afghanistan makes this possible. Virtually all transport flights from Europe to Afghan stopped over in Incirlik; they went so far as to build out a stop over barracks for the grunts heading thru.
(Yes, they could have mid air refueled the transports, but the air tankers have to come from somewhere.)
The string was usually RhineMain - Incirlik - Tajikistan - Baghram. Logistics is everything.

US eyes Greek island as alternative to Turkish base due to ‘disturbing' Erdogan actions, senior senator claims
Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
’s "disturbing" foreign policy has spurred U.S. officials to intensify preparations to withdraw from Incirlik Air Force base, according to a senior Republican senator and American analysts.

"We don't know what's gonna happen to Incirlik," Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson, who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee for Europe, told the Washington Examiner. "We hope for the best, but we have to plan for the worst."

Erdogan has threatened American access to the base, which reportedly houses dozens of U.S. nuclear weapons, multiple times since he squashed a failed coup attempt in 2016.

A withdrawal would signal a major shift in the balance of trust between the United States and the country that boasts the second-largest military in NATO, but Erdogan’s increasing affinity for Russian President Vladimir Putin and truculence with other NATO allies has angered American officials and raised the specter of other crises in the transatlantic alliance.

"We want to maintain our full presence and cooperation in Turkey," Johnson said. "I don’t think we want to make that strategic shift, but I think, from a defensive posture, I think we have to look at the reality of the situation that the path that Erdogan is on is not good."

The U.S. Navy maintains a base at Souda Bay on the Greek island of Crete, and the significance of the outpost is growing along with the tensions between Washington and Ankara.

"It's very unfortunate the path that Erdogan is taking Turkey, or has put Turkey on," Johnson said. "It's disturbing. It's very concerning, which is one of the reasons we certainly are increasing and improving our military cooperation with Greece ... beefing up our presence in Souda Bay, because our presence, quite honestly, in Turkey is certainly threatened."
