Two killed in southern Somalia attack on civilian bus
(Sh. M. Network)--At least two people dead and ten others sustained variety of wounds, after unknown gunnies have opened fire on a civilian bus in southern Somalia, reports said on Thursday.

The killing took place at a village in the vicinity of Bur-hakaba in Lower Shabelle region, after unknown gunnies opened fire on a civilian bus carrying dozens of passengers from Baidoa en route to Mogadishu, just some 250 Kilometres (155 miles) north-west of Mogadishu, Somali capital.

"Last night, armed gunnies have shot and killed two people in Somalia's southern town of Buur-hakaba controlled by Al shabab gunnies as they (gangs) were trying to loot the passengers' belongings," a witness said.

The victimized, including women and kiddies have been taken immediately to the hospitals in Mogadishu for treatment.

Clan festivities in central Somalia kills 8, injures 13
(Sh. M. Network)-- Clashes between rival clans in central Somalia have killed at least 8 people, 13 others injured, residents said Thursday.

Abdikadir Abdi-Bare, a local peacemaker said that at least 8 people killed in fighting in the central Galgadud region. Most of the dead were militia members.

There have been sporadic festivities between two clans near Abud-waq town over access to land and water for several days. The most recent fighting began early Monday.

Local elders have called for calm but that residents are fleeing the area around the town and more gunnies are arriving.

"It's awful fighting and tension is still high so I call for prompt action," an elder said by telephone.

Thirteen people were maimed in the fighting, said a nurse in the main hospital in Abud-waq town, controlled by pro-government Ahlu Sunna Waljama'a (ASWJ) fighters.

Warrants out for two over Coast riots
[Daily Nation (Kenya)] A court on Thursday issued warrants of arrest against two men who police claim incited youths to attack churches and kill coppers and moderate Mohammedan holy mans.

This was in response to the killing of Islamic preacher Aboud Rogo early last week, which triggered three days of riots in Mombasa.

Four people, including three prison warders, were killed in the riots in which four churches were looted and set ablaze.

Mombasa senior principal magistrate Joyce Gandani issued the warrants against Mr Aboud Awadh and Mr Amani Almasi.

The two men failed to attend court to plead to the charges after they were separately charged with two counts of incitement to violence.

The case will now be mentioned on September 24.

This will bring to 27 the number of people so far charged over the riots.

The two men are accused of uttering the inflammatory words: "Imam wote wanaoungana na serikali wachinjwe na pia polisi yeyote akionekana auwawe" -- (Loosely translated to mean all Mohammedan preachers who are taking sides with the government should be slaughtered, and any police officer seen should be killed).

According to the prosecution, these words were meant to bring death or physical injury to any class of persons, community or body of persons.

Destruction of property

The two also allegedly uttered the words: "Makanisa yote Mombasa yachomwe" -- (All churches in Mombasa should be burned) -- words intended to lead to the damage or destruction of property.

The offences are alleged to have been committed on August 27 at Masjid Musa in Majengo area, Mombasa.

This came barely a day after Mr Abubakar Shariff alias Makaburi, an ally of Sheikh Rogo, was slapped with more charges relating to the riots.

Mr Shariff, who denied the three charges, is in remand custody until September 17 when Mombasa senior resident magistrate Elvis Michieka will rule on whether he should be freed on bond. He had initially been charged with one count of incitement to violence.

In a related development, the team mandated to investigate the shooting of Sheikh Rogo on Thursday promised to explore all avenues to get to the bottom of the matter.

The chairman of the team, Mr Jacob Ondari, said that despite lacking witnesses, the Sherlocks will use all means to collect evidence and ensure that justice is done to the aggrieved.

"We shall not leave any aspect, which might help us to get evidence linking the suspects of the killing even if we shall be forced to get a court order to exhume the body to conduct postmortem," Mr Ondari, an Assistant Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, said.

Egypt court exonerates condemned Gamaa Islamiya members
[Al Ahram] The Beni Suef Criminal Court on Wednesday exonerated four members of Egypt's Al-Gamaa Al-Islamiya who had been earlier sentenced to death by a military court.

Mostafa Hamza, Refaa Taha, Othaman Siman and Mohamed El-Islamboly had all faced the ultimate penalty after being found guilty of involvement in what has become known as the 'Albania Returnees Case' of the late 1990s.

Since the sentence was never carried out, the men were eventually referred by a military tribunal to a civil court for re-trial following last year's revolution, by which they were all found not guilty.

Hamza also stands accused of attempting to assassinate ousted president Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
in 1995. He received an additional death sentence for his role in the so-called 'case of the Afghanistan returnees,' and a lifetime prison sentence for attacking a church in 1989 in his hometown of Beni Suef.

The latest trial represents the first time for Al-Gamaa Al-Islamiya members to be tried in a civil court.

A host of Islamist activists were released in the immediate wake of Mubarak's ouster, with the exception of those facing death sentences.

Mali president asks African forces to intervene
[Daily Nation (Kenya)] Mali's interim president Dioncounda Traore has formally asked west African forces to intervene to take back northern Mali from beturbanned fascisti, a senior French official said here Tuesday.

"President Traore formally sent a request to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to provide a military contribution to stabilise the country and especially re-conquer the north," said La Belle France's special representative for the Sahel region
... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas...
, Jean Felix-Paganon.

"This is an important development and we are discussing the possible developments" with Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and may be in the process of being chased out now...
's President Blaise Compaore, ECOWAS' chief mediator, Felix-Paganon added.

ECOWAS has said it is prepared to send a 3,300-strong force into Mali, but hopes to receive a UN mandate for the deployment which would also require an official request from the Malian transitional authorities.

So far the interim government has been reluctant to allow in foreign troops but the changing situation on the ground could alter opinions.

Once one of the region's most stable democracies, Mali has crumbled into turmoil since democratically elected president Amadou Toumani Toure was tossed by the military in March.

The ensuing political chaos allowed Al-Qaeda-linked beturbanned fascisti to seize control of the vast desert north, an area larger than La Belle France or Texas, where they have enforced strict sharia law.

So far, interim authorities have proved unable to stem the crisis.

Salafists claim Tunisia hotel bar attack, inquiry stalls
[Al Ahram] A group of Salafist faceless myrmidons grabbed credit on Wednesday for the attack on a hotel bar in central Tunisia, saying they were responding to "the demands of the people."
"It was done in response to the demands of the people," Wael Amami, a member of the "Salafist jihadi" group, told AFP, two days after the raid.

"The youths just smashed the bottles of alcohol... They did not hit anyone," said Amami, estimating that between 15 and 20 customers were present at the moment of the attack, which took place in Sidi Bouzid's Hotel Horchani.

He also said the group had warned the hotel management over the sale of alcohol, which nevertheless continued.

On Monday, bearded men burst into the hotel, which hosted Sidi Bouzid's last working bar, smashing bottles and chasing away customers, before raiding the reception and the upstairs rooms, shouting "Allahu Akbar" and "Al-Sharab haram" (drinking is a sin).

An interior ministry official said on Wednesday that the inquiry was ongoing, but admitted that no arrests had been made because the hotel manager "did not want to identify" the suspects.

Lotfi Hidouri said the police had summoned those suspected of carrying out the attack, but was unable to elaborate on the number or identity of the people implicated.

Amami said the young man trying to film the raid, who was beaten by members of the group before being taken away according to witnesses, had been released.

"We just held him for the time it took to check that there were not images on his mobile phone," he added.

Amami said his group, again complying with popular request, was also combatting the proliferation of illegal alcohol outlets in the central Tunisian town.

"The residents complain, but the police don't interfere," he charged.

Amami gained notoriety when he was sentenced to life in prison under the regime of former dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, after bloody festivities with the army in Soliman, near the capital, in 2007.

He was released under an amnesty, following last year's revolution.

Sidi Bouzid, the birthplace of the uprising that Ben Ali last year, is a stronghold of the Salafist movement, which has grown increasingly assertive in recent months.

The North African country has witnessed numerous violent incidents linked to the hardliners, prompting opposition activists to accuse the Islamist-led coalition government of not doing enough to rein them in.

Nigeria navy retakes control of hijacked oil tanker
[Daily Nation (Kenya)] Nigeria's navy on Wednesday retook control of a Singapore-owned tanker carrying a fuel cargo that had been hijacked near Lagos, and its crew of 23 Indian nationals was unharmed, the company said.

The attack was the third in just over two weeks in the Gulf of Guinea and the latest in a rash of such incidents in recent months, with previous hijackings leading to the theft of fuel cargo followed by the release of the crew and ships.

Details were still emerging of the attack late Tuesday, but the crew were said to have taken refuge in a safe room. The gasoline-laden vessel was being escorted to the port of Nigeria's economic capital Wednesday afternoon.

The master of the MT Abu Dhabi sent out a short distress call Tuesday night saying that suspected pirates were boarding the ship roughly 30 nautical miles off Nigeria's coast, said Pat Adamson, a front man for Pioneer Ship Management.

Nigeria's navy front man, Commodore Kabir Aliyu, said the tanker's location at about 1100 GMT had been established through a tracking device and that a rescue mission had been launched.

The navy vessel closed in on the MT Abu Dhabi at approximately 1400 GMT, said the company statement.

"Command was restored to the master and crew. It is understood that the pirates expeditiously departed at a goodly pace on the approach of the naval vessel. All the ship's crew are reported to be well and unharmed," the statement said.

Aliyu said that no shots were fired and no confrontation occurred as marine forces reclaimed the vessel.

Nigeria mobile phone towers attacked
[Washington Post] A radical Islamist sect that has attacked mosques, churches, schools and government buildings at will in Nigeria appears to have added a new target for its violence: mobile phone towers.

Attacks in the last day have damaged more than 20 towers operated by all the major providers in the country, further straining the one link the nation relies on for communication in a country with nearly no landlines. While no one has grabbed credit for the attacks, the Islamist sect known as Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
threatened mobile phone companies six months ago, warning that they would be targeted for cooperating with the government to flush out its members.

The assaults, which continued into Thursday morning, appear to be "an attack on the telecoms industry," said Gbenga Adebayo, the chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria. It also would be a further strain on people living in a region long under attack by the radical sect.

"We are worried because this infrastructure is meant to serve the public," Adebayo told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named. "So an attack on infrastructure is an attack on the public itself."

Communications across northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
remained difficult Thursday, with residents unable to connect calls or having them drop in mid-conversation. Internet service also was poor, as most access the web through mobile phone networks. It could take months for service to improve in the region, especially if attacks continue as other companies have been leery of sending staff to the region.

In Nigeria, home to more than 160 million people, mobile phones serve as a valuable lifeline across both cities and rural communities. Landlines remain almost nonexistent, as the state-run telephone company has collapsed and repeated efforts to privatize it have failed. More 87 million mobile phone lines were in use in 2009, according to estimates.

A survey Thursday by AP journalists across northern Nigeria found at least 27 attacks occurred in six states, spread from the central state of Kano to the far eastern state of Borno. In Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state where Boko Haram began, an AP journalist saw at least nine burned mobile towers. The journalist also saw the burned remains of what used to be the city's main office for South Africa-based MTN Group Ltd., Nigeria's largest cell network provider.

MTN acknowledged in a statement Thursday that "attacks have been made on some of its installations in northern Nigeria by unknown persons" and that customers may experience outright network failure following the attacks. Typically, a mobile phone will continue to seek a signal at another nearby tower, meaning networks can quickly be overloaded if towers go offline.

"We are intensifying efforts to restore normal services as soon as possible," MTN executive Akinwale Goodluck said in the statement.

Officials with Bharti Airtel Ltd. of India, Abu Dhabi-based Etisalat and local firm Globacom Ltd., the nation's other major telecommunication firms, could not be immediately reached for comment Thursday. However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
Adebayo said the attacks affected all four companies and five others.

In neighboring Adamawa state, attackers set ablaze five towers in the town of Mubi, Adamawa state police front man Ibrahim Muhammad said. He said that two civilians were rubbed out in the late night attacks. An AP journalist also saw two burned masts in Kano, the capital of Kano state.

In the northeastern town of Potiskum in Yobe state, young men shouting "God is great" in Arabic set one tower ablaze after soaking it in gasoline, resident Hamadu Mohamed said. An AP news hound saw two other damaged masts in the town, and a fourth in the nearby city of Damaturu. Five other towers were later found destroyed in the region, the AP journalist said. In Gombe state's capital of Gombe, another mast was attacked in the city center.

Gunmen also made attempts to attack two other towers in Bauchi, the capital of Bauchi state, witnesses said.

Police in the region said they were investigating the attacks, which some officials initially blamed on Boko Haram, a sect whose name means "Western education is sacrilege" in the Hausa language of Nigeria's Mohammedan north. More than 660 people have died in drive-by killings and bombings blamed on Boko Haram this year alone, according to an AP count. The sect has demanded the release of all its captive members and has called for strict Shariah law to be implemented across the entire country.

This would represent the first time the sect specifically targeted mobile phone companies. However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
in a February conversation with local journalists, a Boko Haram front man using the nom de guerre Abul Qaqa said the sect would target the firms for allegedly revealing information about the sect's followers. Nigeria recently made mobile phone users register their numbers by giving their fingerprints and a photograph, as well as other details about their lives. Nigeria's military and security services also have tracked suspected cut-throats in the past by their mobile phones.

Marib Pipeline Shut Down Again, Officials
[Yemen Post] Tribal sabotuers bombed late on Tuesday the Marib oil pipeline triggering an immediate halt to pumping crude to the Ras Isa terminal in the western port city of Hodeida, officials at the oil and minerals ministry said.

"Transporting crude from Marib and Shabwa provinces through this pipeline has been halted because the attack was big," one of the officials said Wednesday.

"The authorities have been working hard to prevent sabotage attacks on this key pipeline after it was repaired in July following repeated attacks in October," the official continued. "It is difficult to watch every single person in this notorious province. Any primitive easily becomes a saboteur, but we will continue to do our best to prevent more attacks".

The Marib pipeline resumed operation in July after a nine-month halt that contributed to fund and fuel shortages as Yemen is struggling to return the situation to normal after the turmoil.

The attack came a day after sources in Marib spoke of attempted attacks on the natural gas pipeline which has been attacked almost six times this year, mostly by Al-Qaeda orcs. Yemen's oil and gas pipelines are subjected to sabotage attacks by cut-throats and rustics who usually carry out such acts to pressure the government to meet demands including the release of imprisoned relatives or fellows.

The Marib pipeline carries about 110.000 barrels a day.

He called the Houthi group to engage in political life, pointing out that they should be dealt as hard boyz if they refuse that.

He strongly condemned their killing of Sultan on charge of Spying, stressing that all Houthi leaders act as spies and agents to Iran.

Meanwhile,

They also demanded the governor of Hajja Ali Al-Qaisi and the security authorities to immediately intervene and put and end to crimes committed by the Houthi group in some districts of Hajja and other governorates.

Locals held the authorities responsible to their suffers, affirming that their disregard encouraged Houthis to commits further crimes.

Media sources have stated the Houthi group conducted an arrest campaign against activists, politicians, teachers, students as well as football players in Saada.

The defense ministry's mouthpiece, the September 26 website, said others were maimed in the strike which comes amid an ongoing massive hunt for Al-Qaeda operatives across the republic.

New terror leader appointed in Dagestan

Pakistan evicts Save the Children foreign staff
[Dawn] Pakistain has ordered all Save the Children's foreign staff to leave the country within four weeks in the wake of accusations linking the aid agency to a fake vaccination programme used in the hunt for the late Osama bin Laden
... who is no longer with us, and won't be again...
.

Save the Children said it had received no explanation for the order, under which the charity's six expatriate staff have been told to leave within four weeks.

But a Pakistain intelligence report has linked the aid agency to Pak doctor Shakeel Afridi who the CIA allegedly used to carry out a fake vaccination programme as they searched for the Al-Qaeda chief.

"Earlier this week we got a call from special branch instructing us to send back all expatriate staff," Save the Children front man Ghulam Qadir told AFP.

"There were no reasons given. We are working with the government to comply with the instructions."He said the agency would continue to operate in Pakistain where it has 2,000 staff, serving more than seven million children.

And he strongly denied
No, no! Certainly not!
allegations that Afridi was introduced to the CIA through Save the Children.

"On Shakeel Afridi, our stand is very clear that there is absolutely no truth in it. There is no concrete proof to these allegations," Qadir said.

No government official was immediately available to comment.

Richard Hoagland, the US deputy ambassador to Pakistain, reacted to news of the expulsion by saying Save the Children had nothing to do with the discovery of bin Laden, who was living in the garrison town of Abbottabad
... A pleasant city located only 30 convenient miles from Islamabad. The city is noted for its nice weather and good schools. It is the site of Pakistain's military academy, which was within comfortable walking distance of the residence of the late Osama bin Laden....
, north of Islamabad.

"Save the Children' were in no way involved with Abbottabad -- I repeat, no way. A very sad and misguided over-reaction," he wrote on Twitter.

Afridi allegedly worked for the CIA collecting DNA in a bid to verify bin Laden's presence in the town, where US Navy SEALS killed the Al-Qaeda leader in a raid on his compound in May 2011.

Pakistain reacted with fury to the raid, which it branded a violation of illusory sovereignty.

An official report prepared jointly by Pakistain civil and military intelligence blamed a former Save the children director for introducing Afridi to the Americans.

The report, obtained by AFP, said Afridi went to Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
in November 2008 to participate in a workshop organised by Save The Children, where he met the charity's country director, who later invited him to come to Islamabad.

Afridi met him at a book stall in Islamabad and was introduced to a western woman, the report said. Afridi and the woman met regularly afterwards in various locations in the capital.

In May Afridi was sentenced to 33 years in jail for treason after being convicted over alleged ties to bully boy group Lashkar-e-Islam, not for working for the CIA, for which the court said it did not have jurisdiction.

The United States was enraged by Afridi's sentencing and the Senate Appropriations Committee voted to cut aid to Pakistain by a symbolic $33 million.

Abu Sayyaf kills three farmers in southern Philippines
Abu Sayyaf terrorists rebels ambushed farm workers in Basilan, killing one and injuring at least three dozen others.

Army Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang, a spokesman for the Western Mindanao Command, said the attack occurred in the village of Sapah Bulak where security forces are fighting Abu Sayyaf terrorists rebels.

Cabangbang blamed the Abu Sayyaf for the ambush. He said, “The same group was behind the attack and security forces are pursuing the Abu Sayyaf in Basilan. Our operation is ongoing against the terrorist group.”

He said the farm workers were on a truck when gunmen attacked them. In July, Abu Sayyaf terrorists rebels also ambushed a farm truck, killing at least 6 people and injuring 22 others, in the same village.

Cabangbang said the Abu Sayyaf has been extorting money from the farmers, who work for the Tumahubong Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Incorporated Development Cooperative. Reports say Abu Sayyaf was demanding P50,000 a month from the cooperative.

Syrian troops take town on refugee flight route
After hours of heavy shelling, Syrian troops recaptured a border town Thursday in what activists said was a government attempt to stem the flood of people fleeing their country's civil war.

Syrian rebels had been in control of Tel Chehab, along the Jordanian border, for months despite repeated assaults by pro-government troops, local activist Mohammed Abu Houran said.

In the latest festivities, hundreds of Syrian soldiers backed by 20 tanks assaulted Tel Chehab, according to Abu Houran and the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Rebels fought back but were pushed out, activists said.

A Jordanian army officer living just across the border said by telephone that he had heard heavy shelling starting early in the morning, but that it had subsided by midday.

"It sounded like the shelling came from tanks and armored vehicles," said the officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because army regulations forbid him from being identified in press accounts.

The activists did not have casualty figures. Abu Houran said at least 2,000 refugees were waiting in the town for the chance to cross the border. Most of them were staying in two schools.
