Afghanistan
Taliban Says US Infringed Doha Pact
Indignation is certainly one approach to being caught with your pants down around your ankles...
[KhaamaPress] The Taliban
...Arabic for students...
condemned the drone attack and claimed it is a "clear violation" of both international law and the 2020 Doha Agreement, to which the US and the Taliban are parties.

Taliban senior spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated in the statement that the attack occurred on a residential home in the Sherpur area of Kabul, a diplomatic neighborhood where several Taliban commanders currently reside.

"Such actions are a repetition of the failed experiences of the past 20 years and are against the interests of the US, Afghanistan, and the region," Mujahid said.

The US killing of the al-Qaeda chief raises the question of whether the al-Qaeda leader received protection from the Taliban, even though the US has claimed that it can still tackle threats from Afghanistan without a military presence.

According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the killing of Ayman al-Zawahiri
...Formerly second in command of al-Qaeda, now the head cheese, occasionally described as the real brains of the outfit. Formerly the Mister Big of Egyptian Islamic Jihad. Bumped off Abdullah Azzam with a car boom in the course of one of their little disputes. Is thought to have composed bin Laden's fatwa entitled World Islamic Front Against Jews and Crusaders. Currently residing in the North Wazoo area assuming he's not dead like Mullah Omar. He lost major face when he ordered the nascent Islamic State to cease and desist and merge with the orthodox al-Qaeda spring, al-Nusra...
has made the world a safer place.

He also blamed the Taliban government in Afghanistan for "grossly" breaching its obligations to the international community by "hosting and sheltering" the al-Qaeda leader in Kabul.

Al-Zawahiri, an Egyptian with a $25 million bounty on his head, was one of the criminal masterminds behind the September 11, 2001 attacks on the US, which resulted in the deaths of numerous people.

Late in May, al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri reaffirmed the long-standing affiliation and cooperation between his organization and the Taliban by swearing loyalty and allegiance to Hebatullah Akhundzadah, Taliban supreme leader.

Amount of Cash Aid to Afghanistan Surpasses $1 Billion 33 Million
[KhaamaPress] According to the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
-run Central Bank of Afghanistan, a cash package containing $40 million arrived in Kabul on Tuesday, August 2, as part of continuous humanitarian assistance from the international community.

The aid shipment, which arrived in Kabul today, was placed at one of the commercial banks, while a shipment totaling $40 million was handed to a commercial bank in Kabul two days ago.

The total value of these humanitarian packages delivered to Afghanistan in the last few months surpasses $1 billion 33 million dollars.

There is no information, however, on how these aids are utilized, how much has been used thus far, or for what purposes.

To establish a strong foundation for effective engagement with other states in the region and around the world, the Central Bank of the Taliban’s administration has urged that banking relations with Afghanistan be made easier.

The central bank reiterated its gratitude to the international community for its generous financial assistance.

Afghanistan’s foreign reserves were frozen and its access to international banks was restricted after the Taliban took power.

The national currency of Afghanistan experienced a rapid decrease in value as a result of this limitation, which created a liquidity cash flow crisis.

The Central Bank of the caretaker government of the Taliban, on the other hand, held auctions in late July to sell millions of dollars to retain the Afghani currency’s purchasing power relative to the US dollar.

Taliban under scrutiny as US kills al-Qaida leader in Kabul
[AlAhram] The U.S. dronezap that killed al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri on the balcony of a Kabul safe house intensified global scrutiny Tuesday of Afghanistan's Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
rulers and further undermined their efforts to secure international recognition and desperately needed aid.

The Taliban had promised in the 2020 Doha Agreement on the terms of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan that they would not harbour al-Qaeda members. Nearly a year after the U.S. military's chaotic pullout from Afghanistan, al-Zawahri's killing raises questions about the involvement of Taliban leaders in sheltering a criminal mastermind of the 9/11 terror attacks and one of America's most-wanted runaways.

#3  India was a vast empire at one time. The riches looted mainly with British occupation. Even their history destroyed.Currently history is being reclaimed actively. Next year with the worlds largest human population. So vast a country and so many different peoples. Issues even today with China but China has very large presence in India. India could and would be the logical choice to seek help. I believe they would even trust India more than any other nation. India as I recall when a great empire encompassed entire region of southern Asia including Afghanistan(so a shared ancient culture). Colonialism is a thing shared with most nations for this part of the world.

#4  India could and would be the logical choice to seek help.

This isn't because of the old civilizational connect, Dale, so much as about enemy of my enemy and cheap food grains. At one time all Afghanistan was buddhist. But islamic calvinball has reduced all cultural ties to simple strategic relations. That and economics.

They see the Indian government as appeasers because it is. The Indian government currently appeases 200 million moslems so that they don't riot in the streets. The asian Umma has got these socialist democracies deeply infiltrated and invested in the 'we are all brothers' role play this way. In reality, the asian Sunnis all defer to what Islamabad decrees, directly or indirectly. The Taliban have just denounced that control, they think they have their own nation now.

The Taliban have high ambitions, having seen the opulence of the Saudis, Qataris... they were told they're sitting on a gold mine and they wanna be another Emirate. For this they need the influence of Islamabad in the region cut down to size. Deeper than this, there runs a cultural, sub-racist kind of rivalry with the Punjabis running Pakistan and calling themselves Khan. There's a murderous hatred for uppity Punjabis who they see as weak and cowardly sell outs while the Punjabis see them as no better than really tough guard dogs.

India has helped out Afghanistan only on humanitarian terms it would seem, but often it was to project as a saviour of Moslems in Asia, to win favor with the OIC countries and back home. These gestures were ultimately rewarded with zilch, Pakistain terming them insincere and thankless asian moslems towing the line. And all the money spent on afganistan was wasted anyway. But the pashtun prides himself on never forgetting a favour just as he doesn't forget an insult.

If India does help the taliban at any time, it should be in return for their mercenary services against Pakistain. And while Washington might not see it as a good thing, it is. I think the Taliban will try and play to the sentiments of the hindu leadership in Delhi and give them stuff like... 'oh! Looky here, we're restoring this 3rd century temple!' and 'Indian biradars! We welcome your investment! Namaste!' ... anything for the pols in India to sell to their own voters as 'look! We have made the talibans build a temple. Cheer for us, everyone!'

I don't know if I'm making sense.

#5  Truth is, the Taliban have very basic needs right now. And they've just been shown that they continue to live only because America allows it. That, is a quantity that can be used, to get them to do stuff.

#6  The people in the region referred to as Afghanistan Taliban have very basic needs right now.

Those needs were met and exceeded for twenty years. Instead of defending what they had, they decided to sit on the sidelines. Actions and inaction have consequences.

Or am I missing something ?

#9  Zawahiri was allegedly killed at Sirajuddin Haqqani's home in Kabul... A peaceful environment is not what he seeks.

And we may have our answer on who ratted out Zawahiri...Haqqani is reaching out to India days after the hit. This would indicate the ISI was responsible for Zawahiri's demise.

#14  Tennessee is right at #9.

In fact Haqqani reached out that afternoon itself. This interview was given much later. Can't say more. Suffice to say, the rift with Pakistain just deepened.

#15  ^ #4 well put. It is indeed difficult to review the many facets of India. Christian, Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist. Then in each area of India so many different peoples, music, dance, clothing, collar of skin and so on. I hope they can keep it together and offer others stability. Hard fought independence by individuals like Bhagat Singh muted by Gandhi prevailed with independence achieved.

[IsraelTimes] Imam Saleh Bin al-Humayd prayed for God to "bring annihilation upon the plundering and occupying Jews" and to protect the Moslems from their evil during a Friday sermon at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute.

The sermon came less than two weeks after Israeli journalist Gil Tamari illegally entered the site where non-Moslems are banned.

Early in his administration, Biden had pledged to cut off or cut back weapons sales to both Saudi Arabia and the UAE because of their actions in Yemen.

India-Pakistan
As Al-Qaeda scouts for new chief, Indian agencies worry about an Islamic State spillover
Mr. Zidan’s FBI Most Wanted poster can be seen at the link offering $10 million head money. And an old photo, for those interested in such things.
[OneIndia] The coming days would be crucial because the al-Qaeda would not want to break the momentum it has generated when it comes to spreading its ideology in India

Mohammed Salahldin Zidan who is of Egyptian origin is likely to be the next chief of the al-Qaeda. The terror group began the hunt for a new chief after US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Joe's wife and daughter weren't killed by a drunk driver. He didn't graduate with three or even two degrees, wasn't in the top half of his law class, and his daddy didn't come home from a hard day's work in the mines and play football with the guys. The NAACP hasn't endorsed him every time he's run. On the other hand, he did abandon Afghanistan...
announced that al-Qaeda boss Ayman al-Zawahiri
...Formerly second in command of al-Qaeda, now the head cheese, occasionally described as the real brains of the outfit. He lost major face when he ordered the nascent Islamic State to cease and desist and merge with the orthodox al-Qaeda spring, al-Nusra...
had been killed in a dronezap in Kabul, Afghanistan on Saturday.

Zidan who also goes by the alias Saif-al-Adel is tipped to be the next chief of the terror group that carried out the 9/11 attacks. His whereabouts are however unknown currently.

While the death of Zawahiri is welcome news for India, the agencies are also worried about the possible spillover of al-Qaeda cadres into the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
whose ideology has caught traction against many radical Indian Moslems. The Islamic State has demonstrated how deeply it is able to penetrate in India especially in the southern states.

An official tells OneIndia that the death of Zawahiri will break the morale of the al-Qaeda cadres and a lesser known Zidan may not be able to hold them back. The resultant of this could be a spillover into the Islamic State and that it could be very bad news for India.

The Islamic State currently is the strongest in Afghanistan and it has demonstrated in recent times its ability to mount spectacular attacks. It has primarily focused on launching attacks against the minority community in Afghanistan and with the backing of the ISI, it will continue to target the minorities in Afghanistan, the official cited above says.

Zidan on the other hand is stronger in terms of operational capabilities rather than have an ideological hold. He was a former lieutenant colonel in the Egyptian special forces and has been instrumental in the bombings of the US embassies in Tanzania and Kenya in 1998. He also fought against the Russian forces in Afghanistan and had played a key role in training the hijackers who carried out the 9/11 attacks.

An Intelligence Bureau official says that the coming days would be crucial because the al-Qaeda would not want to break the momentum it has generated when it comes to spreading its ideology in India. The outfit has been instrumental in setting a narrative when it came to the hijab issue which broke out in Karnataka. It has made comments on the Indian Army and also provoked people during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests.

The focus of the al-Qaeda in the past couple of years has been around the sub-continent. It had even appointed Asim Umar
...chief of al-Qaeda's Sharia Committee for Pakistain, named head of al-Qaeda in India. His video appearances are frequently accompanied by clips of al Qaeda's senior propagandist in Pakistan, Ahmad Farooq. Umar the author of The Army of Anti-Christ: Blackwater, Documentation of the Dreadful Terrorist Activities of America's Blackwater in Islamic Countries...
who is from Uttar Pradesh as the chief of the al-Qaeda in the Sub-Continent. Officials say that if the al-Qaeda is unable to hold on its cadre there is a good chance that they may move towards the Islamic State. While the Islamic State has demonstrated that it can spread its ideology in India, it has also shown that it is capable of launching spectacular attacks including the ones involving lone wolves and this is a major cause of concern for the Indian Intelligence agencies.

Iraq
Poor economy, security pushes Hamdaniyah Christians abroad
[Rudaw] At least 30 Christian families migrated from Nineveh’s Hamdaniyah in July, due to economic and security reasons, a local official told Rudaw on Tuesday.

"Thirty families migrated from Hamdaniyah in July," Issam Bahnam, the district’s mayor told Rudaw, adding that the families previously left the area but had returned.

Bahnam claimed that the numbers of families leaving the area on monthly basis "did not exceed two families" before with most leaving for Jordan and Lebanon Hezbollahstan

The Christian town of Hamdaniyah is located some 20 kilometers southeast of djinn-infested Mosul

that was heavily affected when the Islamic State

(ISIS) controlled swathes of Iraq in 2014.

The official put the toll of Christians in the area to 10 thousand, noting that they have now decreased to about 5 thousand.

Al-Qaeda faces succession quandary after Zawahiri killing
[AlAhram] The killing of al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri

in a US dronezap will not affect the operations of the terror group's affiliates across the world, but opens the way for a potentially troubled succession process.

Most likely contenders: Saif al-Adel, a former Egyptian special forces lieutenant-colonel and old guard of Al-Qaeda, reported in Iran, and Abu Abd al-Karim al-Masri, part of the leadership of Hurras al-Din in Syria.
The Egyptian jihadist, who the United States says has been killed in a hideout in the Afghan capital Kabul, never even attempted to replicate the charisma and influence of his predecessor the late Osama bin Laden
