-Lurid Crime Tales-
Call Police if Offered Women's Undies
If someone offers you frilly women's lingerie on the street, call police. Thieves have stolen almost $35,000 worth of underwear, perfume and other merchandise from Victoria's Secret stores in the Raleigh area since March, police said. Law enforcement officials have no suspects and said it's unlikely the thieves are stealing for personal use.

A store in the Triangle Town Center in Raleigh reported nearly $20,000 in missing merchandise between March and June, while stores in Durham and Cary reported losses of almost $13,000 and $4,000, respectively.

The thieves seem to work in groups of three, with one person distracting a store clerk while the other two stuff bags with bras, underwear and other items, police said.

Strategy Page: Another Columbian Drug Sub found. 4th so far.
July 24, 2007: For the fourth time in the last decade, police have captured a submarine used by drug gangs to move drugs. Last year, the navy seized a 57 foot long fiberglass submarine 45 kilometers off the Pacific coast. The sub was built for, and used by, drug smugglers, to get the drugs to high speed boats off the coast, which would move the cocaine north, towards Central America, and eventually the United States. Both subs could was carrying four tons of cocaine. In March, 2005, police caught a drug gang building a small submarine to smuggle cocaine out of the country. This one was found, under construction at a small Pacific coast port. This sub could carry about ten tons of drugs, past police and navy patrols, to larger ships offshore. Four years earlier, police had interrupted another submarine construction effort. All these submarines are, technically, "submersibles." That is, they operate just beneath the surface, in order to avoid navy patrols.

Norridgewock manure spill a stinky mess
Would this qualify as a Superfund cleanup site?
NORRIDGEWOCK -- Everywhere Richard White looked Monday there were big clumps of dried, smelly chicken manure. It was hanging from his mailbox, sloshed all over his snowmobile, lying next to his well and dried on his garage door more than 30 feet across the yard. Two vehicles parked nearby looked like they had been through a very sloppy and thick mud run.

"There's stuff still 20 feet up the tree," White said, pointing. "It was like a tsunami wave of hot chicken (manure)."

The pungent odor of the nitrogen-concentrated chicken excrement still hung in the air at White's 441 Walker Road home, where shortly after 3 p.m. last Thursday an 18-wheel tractor-trailer rolled over and dumped 24 tons of the stuff in his front yard.

Two used vehicles up for sale were destroyed. A 1997 Eagle Vision TSI was spun around by the impact of the manure and landed in front of his doorstep, White said. A 1987 Suburban Silverado with a plow package also was splattered with the manure and turned sideways. It even blew up under the vehicle and into the motor, he said.

White remained frustrated Monday because, except for the initial cleanup of the excess manure, he said he was still living with a stinky mess. "There are still so many flies; I hate flies," White said. "My other, three-quarter-ton truck was covered. The one I drive. It took me four hours and $40 and some change to clean it at the car wash. It was nasty. I'm sure the owner (of the car wash) is not happy with me, but I didn't want to wash it in my yard."

White said his 22-year-old son "vacated the premises," and White, himself, said he only returned Sunday night: "The odor was intense."

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Robert Mosher, 25, of Farmington, was extricated from the vehicle by emergency workers and continues to recover from internal injuries and broken ribs, according to police.

The tractor-trailer's owner, Maine Contract Farming of Turner, took responsibility for the mess. Bruce Ames, supervisor for the company -- which he said used to be a division of Decoster Egg Farm -- has been negotiating with White on the cleanup. "We're trying to make everything right for the man. We don't need any trouble," Ames said Monday. "We deliver a lot of manure, up to 70 loads a week in central Maine -- some in southern Maine in the springtime."
Door-to-door delivery at no extra charge!
Ames said Thursday's delivery was headed to Anthony Shusta's fields nearby. He said he found out very late in the day abut the accident. He said Shusta's hired hand went over to White's with a front loader, but it became too dark to do anything.

"Elroy Chartrand of Norridgewock and four men went over the next day with two dump trucks and a loader," Ames said. He said they cleaned up the basic pile of manure and filled in the area with dirt: "There's a nice lawn there now."

Matthew T. Randall, compliance supervisor with the Department of Agriculture, said he had been informed of the problem. "The carrier of the manure takes the lead," Randall said. "Because they have ownership of the material, it is their responsibility. They began that process Thursday night and worked on it Friday. I am not aware of what happened over the weekend."

White said nothing happened over the weekend and that upset him: "I asked him: 'What would your wife want you to do?' "

Randall said he and Ames are planning to meet this afternoon to look at the cleanup effort. He said payment of damages will be negotiated between White and Ames without involvement from his department. "In terms of the well, I'll make inquiries about that tomorrow as part of my visit," Randall said.

White, who said he is mostly in the "recycled car" business, said he had talked with Ames about purchasing the two cars and cleaning up the rest of the mess, but became impatient because no one seemed to be paying attention. "They think I'm a hick and don't matter. But my life didn't smell like this before, why should it now? I'd rather have five gallons of oil dumped on me, than the flies crawling on me last night. At least I know what chemicals are in the oil."

Posted by: mojo || 08/01/2007 12:21 Comments || Top||

#4  I somewhat doubt the whole smell issue, if it was broiler/fryer chickens, as most of them are dry litter which is composted. If it was layers, though (eggs), that's a whole different ball of wax...they are wet (liquid manure, usually) and man, can cause a stink. Actually, the dry stuff reeks of pure ammonia in the houses, but if it's dried out/composted right, has nothing but that "earthy" smell to it. Either way, I feel for the homeowner, but it was an accident. Chicken litter is GREAT fertilizer, and is one way to flip off the Saudis (don't use as much oil as producing commercial fertilizer).

Home Front: WoT
Bounty Hunter Disrupts Possible Terror Plot
A terrorist attack on U.S. soil may have been averted, thanks to the efforts of a Florida bounty hunter. William "Cobra" Staubs claims to have captured more than 8,000 fugitives in his long career hunting bail-jumpers. But his latest nab got the attention of federal terrorism investigators: a self-described ex-soldier allegedly harboring a cache of military-grade explosives, functional pipe bombs and other weapons -- and a deep grudge against the U.S. military.

"It's not some hillybilly saying, 'Hey Mama, how you doing?' This was real," Cobra told ABC News.

After a month-long chase through three states, Cobra caught 38-year-old Christopher Riendeau holed up in a motel near the Fort Campbell, Ky. U.S. Army base. Riendeau, a purported 17-year Army veteran, had skipped out on a $100,000 bond after being arrested on drug charges.

Once Riendeau was behind bars, he agreed to a proposal from Cobra to sell off his motorcycle and other items from a Georgia storage shed he rented, to cover his court expenses.

In the shed, Cobra discovered more: 16 loaded and fully functional pipe bombs, two pounds of C-4 military explosives, grenade fuses and an arsenal of 60 firearms and ammunition.

"There are real bombs. We dare not pull the pin on them," Cobra said as he walked through the shed on a videotape obtained by ABC News. "We're going to be calling the bomb squad in a few minutes."

Cobra also found a cleaned and pressed U.S. military uniform and an array of Nazi paraphernalia.

Cobra says Riendeau told him he had a grudge against the military because he had been unfairly discharged from the Army. Riendeau's lawyer, Jerry Berry, declined to comment for this story. "Every place he stayed was near a military base," Cobra told ABC News. "This guy had a problem with the military. This guy had guns, more than he could shoot in any one time...and a lot of ammunition and bombs."

The bombs were seized by law enforcement and destroyed. The FBI is currently investigating whether Riendeau was possibly planning a revenge attack on a U.S. military base, as what the FBI calls a "lone-wolf" terrorist -- a terrorist with no connection to a larger group.

"You definitely have to take this kind of thing seriously," said Brad Garrett, a celebrated former FBI special agent who worked numerous terrorism investigations and now an ABC News consultant. "There's not enough time taken, in my view, looking for these types of people."

Riendeau is now being held without bail while a federal grand jury investigates.

#3  It's pretty hard to tell with this kind of extreme kook. During the survivalist period of the 1980s, the ATF found lots of truly impressing bunkers, mostly in California, filled with all sorts of improperly stored dangerous weaponry, explosives and fuel. They usually just popped them in place.

The irony was that the owners had no real intent to use the stuff, they were just rat packing it. No incidents were involved.

The practice of blowing them up in place came to an end when the government decided to punish a legitimate arms manufacturer by destroying his inventory in Arizona, despite the fact that it was all licensed, properly stored and inspected.

The irony there was that the locals loudly objected, as both he was a good neighbor and employer, not a kook, and they didn't want a lot of toxic smoke and fumes wafting around them.

This delayed things long enough for him to get an injunction to prevent them from blowing up his business, and he ended up with a petty $500 fine for some minor infraction, with the government leaving with its tail between its legs.

I guess you could say that arms caches don't kill people, it's the kook in charge of it that might.

Jailed Bollywood star 'in tears'
Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has spent a troubled first night in a Mumbai jail, according to a fellow prison inmate.

The prisoner, who said that he sleeps near Dutt's cell, told a prison visitor interviewed by the BBC's Zubair Ahmed that the actor is often in tears. He said that Dutt is too hot in his cell, has not been eating and finds his bed and prison clothes uncomfortable. Dutt was jailed for six years on Tuesday for buying weapons from bombers who attacked Mumbai (Bombay) in 1993.
The fellow convict said that Dutt appeared not to enjoy food served to him by the prison authorities, which consisted of daal, chapattis, rice and vegetables.

The actor was reported only to have eaten when the inmate who shares a cell with him offered him two apples. The star told fellow inmates to pray for him. Dutt's first night in prison has received saturation coverage in the Indian media which have gone into great detail about the conditions he faces in Cell Number One in Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail. Our correspondent says that the cell has three rooms - with an attached toilet and shower - as well as a hall. Dutt's neighbour in the adjoining cell is his friend, Yousuf Nullwalla, who was also convicted along with him in the 1993 bombings case. Another inmate told the BBC that Dutt had been summoned by the jail superintendent who asked him if he was comfortable.

The star was wearing a white striped jail uniform but was in some discomfort, complaining that the cloth was too rough. The authorities agreed to allow him access to medicine and cigarettes. That concession follows an unusual conversation between the trial judge PD Kode and the Bollywood star after he was sentenced on Tuesday. Dutt told the judge that he was "more than family for all of us". The judge replied by saying that Dutt had "shot for movies, doing remarkably well in the film line". He urged Dutt not to be sentimental, and to "be calm and quiet". The star's lawyers plan to appeal against his sentence. They argued on Tuesday that he should remain free on bail because of good behaviour, but the judge ruled against leniency. Dutt, 48, is the most high-profile of 100 people convicted in connection with the blasts which killed 257 people. The actor was cleared of conspiracy, but found guilty of illegally possessing a rifle and a pistol.

Nepal arrests Pakistani with fake currency
Authorities in Nepal have arrested a Pakistani national who was carrying more than $250,000 in fake Indian currency, officials said on Tuesday. “The fake currency totalled Indian Rs 10.2 million ($252,000) in Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations,” Dhak Bahadur Karki, a senior security official at the airport told AFP, adding the bills were hidden in soap bar wrappers.

Nepal shares a long, porous southern border with India, and Indian analysts frequently allege that Pakistani intelligence services use Nepal as a route to bring in fake Indian bills. “This is one of the biggest seizures of counterfeit currency that I know of,” Kathmandu investigative police officer Upendra Kanta Aryal told AFP. “We believe that this is an organised network and we are investigating it,” he added.

Abdul Wahib, 40, who told police he was a businessman, was stopped on Monday at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan Airport upon arrival from Karachi. If convicted of counterfeiting, Wahib could be sentenced to five years in prison and fined the same amount as the total of the fake currency he attempted to smuggle into Nepal.

Interstate I-35 Bridge has Collapsed into the Mississippi River in Minneapolis
(WCCO) Minneapolis The Interstate 35W Mississippi River bridge near University Avenue has collapsed into the river.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of 35W are lying in the Mississippi River.

There are multiple cars in the river and a couple cars on fire. According to one witness, there was a school bus full of children on the bridge.

Cars are still on the bridge.

There was no immediate word on injuries, but dozens of rescue vehicles were there. Divers were also in the water.

Tons of concrete have collapsed and people are injured. Survivors are being carried up the riverbank.

Some people are stranded on parts of the bridge that aren't completely in the water.

A tractor-trailer is on fire at the collapse scene.

Some cars are still precariously perched on the bridge. Sections of the bridge are mangled, some are pointing up in the air and some are in the river.

"My truck got completely torn in half," said Gary Bavanaugh, who was on the bridge when it collapsed. "The bridge started shaking and it went down fast."

Bavanaugh said he was headed northbound on I-35W when he heard a huge rumbling and he saw a huge cloud of white dust as the bridge collapsed. He had his seatbelt on and said if he hadn't, his head would have gone through the windshield.

Bavanaugh said a school bus full of children was ahead of him. He got on the bus and helped children, who he estimated to be 8-12 years old, off the bus and off the bridge.

"It is just horrific," said witness Marilyn Franzen, who saw the bridge collapse. Franzen said she saw a school bus that managed to stop before the going over the edge of the bridge that she said was carrying 20-30 children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old.

According to witnesses, cars are crushed and mangled under the bridge where it collapsed onto the shore of the river. Street signs also crushed cars.

The road has been under construction since the beginning of the summer.

Hate-crime arrests in Quran desecrations at Pace University

July 27, 2007, 8:33 PM EDT

NEW YORK (AP) _ A 23-year-old man was arrested Friday on hate-crime charges after he threw a Quran in a toilet at Pace University on two separate occasions, police said.

Stanislav Shmulevich of Brooklyn was arrested on charges of criminal mischief and aggravated harassment, both hate crimes, police said. It was unclear if he was a student at the school. A message left at the Shmulevich home was not immediately returned.

The Islamic holy book was found in a toilet at Pace's lower Manhattan campus by a teacher on Oct. 13. A student discovered another book in a toilet on Nov. 21, police said. So now they have survelience cameras in the school bathrooms. I heardsurveillance cambers are everywhere. My wife's two tickets automatically given by red light cameras are but the tip of the iceberg, I guess

Muslim activists had called on Pace University to crack down on hate crimes after the incidents. As a result, the university said it would offer sensitivity training to its students.
How about lets crack down of these inciting to violence to get virgins in the afterlife Imams, and those flying buffoons who acted up just to be jackasses on that flight. Flying Imams sounds like a degenerate rock group

The school was accused by Muslim students of not taking the incident seriously enough at first. Pace classified the first desecration of the holy book as an act of vandalism, but university officials later reversed themselves and referred the incident to the New York Police Department's hate crimes unit.
Hate crime my ass. Stupid, il-advised. Yes. Hate crime? No. The Hate crime squad are the new facists in the US. Their modus opperandi is no different than the Nazi Gestapo.

The incidents came amid a spate of vandalism cases with religious or racial overtones at the school. In an earlier incident on Sept. 21, the school reported another copy of the Quran was found in a library toilet, and in October someone scrawled racial slurs on a student's car at the Westchester County satellite campus and on a bathroom wall at the campus in lower Manhattan. Police did not connect Shmulevich to those incidents. So why was it mentioned? If there is such a thing as a hate crime that might be one because it was done against a person or his property. If Shmulevich bought those Korans himself, they are his property and he can do what he wants. Perhaps he should be charged for a plumbers call to unstop the toilet...

Treatment of the Quran is a sensitive issue for Muslims, who view the book as a sacred object and mistreating it as an offense against God. The religion teaches that the Quran is the direct word of God. And? "The Bible" is liverwurst, I suppose? Until they procecute Serranop for a hate crime against Christians, this is P.C. to the max!

In 2005, Newsweek magazine published and later retracted a story claiming U.S. interrogators at a prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, flushed a copy of the holy book down a toilet. The report sparked deadly demonstrations in Afghanistan and protests throughout the Middle East. When all else fails run around the streets - yell - scream - riots - mayhem... It is written!

Pace University has 14,000 students on its campuses in New York City and Westchester County.

Messages left for school administrators and for officials with the New York and national chapters of the Council on American-Islamic Relations were not immediately returned Friday evening.

Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the national CAIR office (Usual Suspects) in Washington, D.C., has said the organization receives frequent reports of Quran desecrations in the United States, especially postings on Internet sites, but seldom makes them public.

He said CAIR decided to speak out about the Pace incidents because Muslim students are impacted by the creation of what could be viewed as a hostile campus environment.

But of course when "Piss Christ", by Serrano appeared, no ine called that a hate crime did they?

#1  Little Green Footballs has a nice round up on this. Both Korans were library books checked out from the Pace university library by Mr. Shmulevich, a graduate of the school, for the purpose of putting in the toilet. Hence the original charge of vandalism. Mr. Shmulevich already has a team of lawyers working pro bono -- including two LGF posters.

We can only hope. Or put another way. Now you pricks know what it's like to be a Jew or Christian on a Muslim country.

Skinless people will always be sensitive to everything. Endless Muslim whingeing in no way justifies unequal protection under the law. While they may think that the Koran is the word of their god, it sure as hell isn't the word of a lot of other peoples' God.

The Koran, the Bible, the Bhagvagita, they are all books. They are objects created by men and not the voice of God or His own creation. As such, they are material items that can be treated in any way that anybody pleases. Any attempt by Muslims to alter that status is a direct effort at instituting shari'a law and cannot be countenanced by patriotic Americans.

Again, all of this is merely an attempt to get the camel's nose of shari'a law inside our political and legal tent. We must resolutely defy any such subversion of our Constitution and tell all Muslims—American citizens or not—who seek to do so that they will be deported post haste for their efforts.

#4  Stanislav Shmulevich

Sounds Ukranian or of one of the Former USSR Republics. I'ma guessin' he's seen the effects of living with Muslims up close and personal.

Also, what if all this was a scam (again)? Wasn't there a case a few years ago where a Muslim cried "persecution" when things were inscribed on his car, and come to find out he did it himself to play the victim? Anyways, lumping on the "hate crimes" part is absolutely ridiculous.

#5  Hate crime laws were always a bad idea. And it will only get worse.

#6  You can get your free koran here:

http://www.islamtomorrow.com/freequran.asp

and support the Pace students by putting it in the public toilet of your choice. I keep one under my car in the garage. It's very flat and soaks up melted snow in the winter.

#7  Just to add to the fake panic here, what about printers mistakes, when exactly does paper and ink become a "Holy" book?
What happens to torn, smudged stained Koran pages that are never bound into a "Book"?
Dumpster? rubbish bin, pulped, I mean if you're going to be crazy, go all the way Crazy.

#8  They do, RJ. Find anything with verses from the Koran on it, or things that might look like verses (remember the ice cream cup lids?), and you'll find somebody to shriek if it gets "defiled." I won't say every Muslim will, but somebody will.
