Trump threatens US government shutdown over immigration
[PRESSTV] US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
said on Sunday he would allow the federal government to shut down if Democrats refuse to back his demand for a wall at the Mexican border and other major changes to immigration laws his administration wants.

"I would be willing to ’shut down’ government if the Democrats do not give us the votes for Border Security, which includes the Wall! Must get rid of Lottery, Catch & Release etc. and finally go to system of Immigration based on MERIT! We need great people coming into our Country!" Trump said on Twitter.

The Republican president has used the threat of a government shutdown several times since taking office in 2017 in a bid to get his priorities in congressional spending bills, especially funding for a wall along the southern US border.

A disruption in federal government operations in the months before November congressional elections could backfire on Trump if voters blame Republicans, who control Congress, for the interruption in services.

Trump wants Congress to pass legislation that addresses immigration issues, including the border wall, changing the way visas are allotted and other immigration restrictions.

Although Republicans control Congress, disagreements between moderates and conservatives in the party have impeded a speedy legislative fix.

Standoffs over spending levels and immigration led to a three-day government shutdown, mostly over a weekend, in January and an hours-long shutdown in February.

The Republican president has made tougher immigration laws a centerpiece of his administration, from the first ill-fated travel ban on people from predominantly Moslem nations to the current battle raging over the separation of undocumented Democrat children from their parents at the US-Mexico border.

A federal judge on Friday urged the US government to focus on finding deported immigrant parents so it could reunite them with their children who remain in the United States.

#1  Midterm elections coming...

#2  ...yep. Schumer, Pelosi and Company wanted to play this issue to their core globalist/socialists, now it appears someone is going to make them ride it to November or blink. "Hey, you love illegals more than you love Americans."

#3  "Hey, you love illegals more than you love Americans." Additional narratives.

Schumer, Pelosi and the Dems want to shut down the government...again?

Dems are obstructing the will of the people?

Dems and Soros want to destroy America by having no borders?

What about the other American citizens who are dreamers too?

#4  Considering that illegal immigration is one of the top, if not the top issue this year, this must be polling well with independents.

Shut it down, Mr. President.

#5  Call their bluff. It's make or break time. Shut it down and then see how the voters react. Democrats rely on MSM to spin it their way but it might not work this time. They could lose big.

#6  The MSM will ride to the Democrat's rescue in a thundering herd. I distinctly remember a spot that kept being aired on CNN in the '95 Shutdown -- the local LA station had an interview with a half-blind (!) weeping (!!) elderly (!!!) Latino (!!!!) Bag Lady (!!1!!!) that was terrorized, simply terrorized that Newt Gingrich and his GOP Goons were going to take away her Social Security checks. She was going to starve and freeze in the blowing snowstorms of East LA, no doubt...

Goebbels would have been proud...

#10  Small comment: In the 1995 shutdown, a Dem was president, there was no internet only the MSM, and most people still trusted both. The truth only had Limbaugh and the AM radio talk shows.

Times have changed. Have they changed enough?

#11  nothing will happen in DC anyway. All the shutdown will do is give people a paid day off....
Posted by: 49 Pan || 07/30/2018 14:16 Comments || Top||

#12  At least a Republican shut down is unlikely to spend money to put up barriers and hire guards to keep people from visiting the national parks and monuments. If it goes on long enough we might actually find how overstuffed different layers of government bureaucracy are.

Government
Don't Panic if There Is a Government Shutdown
Immigration continues to stay at the forefront of political debates. The left is relying heavily on illegal aliens obtaining amnesty. Illegals aren’t people to leftists. They are an opportunity to legalize new voters that will replace the lost voters since the 2016 election. President Trump knows this. He tweeted Sunday that shutting down the government is an option if the Democratic Party continues to obstruct his agenda. Trump has been ahead of political opposition since he announced he’s running for president, so there is no need to panic on the right.

No, it is not ideal to shut down the government, especially before a midterm election. However, Democrats are not the only ones who may force this. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is much to blame. On Friday, while speaking on a Kentucky radio show, he said that additional funding for the wall is getting pushed back until after the midterm elections.

...Trump understands what he is doing. It is evident that one doesn’t need to be a "swamp creature" to make Washington D.C. work. The president has surrounded himself with great advisors as well, or he would not have succeeded in so a quick time.

Shutting down the government would not be a major crisis, even though it will get portrayed that way. Only non-essential agencies close down, and those people eventually get paid. Over half of the IRS will close down, which is a reason for a shutdown in itself.

#3  Who would a government shutdown affect the most? Those who are affected the most are those get government benefits. Most of these people are Dem supporters. The narrative needs to blame the Dems for the shutdown.

Federal employees being furlowed?

Heh. The horse they are riding seems to be going in a different direction than they are.

As for the shutdown, a shutdown would damage the esteem of fed employees sent home as Non-Essential Personnel. You know who else damaged people's self-esteem? That's right, Hitler.
