Why College Is Never Coming Back
h/t Instapundit
[Forbes] - Here’s some great news: one of America’s most broken industries is finally being exposed as a sham. And make no mistake, the end of college as we know it is a great thing.

It’s great for families, who’ll save money and take on less debt putting kids through school. It’s great for kids, who’ll no longer be lured into the socialist indoctrination centers that many American campuses have become. And as I’ll show you, it’s great for investors, who stand to make a killing on the companies that’ll disrupt college for good.

...College costs have ballooned beyond all reason. They’ve risen even faster than healthcare costs, which is really saying something. Kids are burying themselves in debt—$1.6 trillion at last count—in order to attend college.

When I wrote about this last year, I had little hope things would change anytime soon. Why? It’s a tough sell to convince an 18-year-old kid not to attend the four-year party all his friends are going to, especially when the US government is financing it through student loans.

...Mark my words: coronavirus will be remembered for transforming college forever. The virus has forced practically every college to move their courses online for the next semester. So instead of living on campus and walking to lectures, kids will be sitting in their bedrooms watching professors on Zoom calls.

This is FAR more disruptive than most folks realize. College is about much more than just the learning. There’s the education, and then you have the experience. The learning part has barely changed in a century. Kids still sit in 60-year-old lecture halls listening to professors.

But now, the "experience" has been stripped away. Do you think teenagers will be willing to mortgage their futures in order to watch college lecture videos on the internet?

Living on one income is like losing weight: You need focus
[Washington Examiner] For the past several months, I've been an avid Dave Ramsey fan. If you know who he is, you either like him or hate him. If you don't know who he is, he essentially teaches people how to get rid of debt and build wealth — something he did himself after filing bankruptcy decades ago. I've listened to him long enough now to know that what he says works. My husband and I even use his EveryDollar budgeting app, which has been a boon for our finances.

The experience has made me think about the fact that there are many married-couple families today that would like to live on one income, if only temporarily, but are convinced they can't. Many of these couples made professional and financial decisions prior to having children, including the purchase of a home, on the assumption they'll always have two incomes. That was a mistake — one they were, unfortunately, encouraged to make.

This makes the transition to one income more challenging, but not impossible. Just as getting out of debt and building wealth is not predicated on having a large income but upon following a budget, so it is with the choice to live on one income — or even on one-and-a-half incomes. There are instances in which this may be harder to do (i.e. if a couple lives in or near an expensive city, for instance), but even that has a solution: move. COVID-19 is proving in spades that people will move when circumstances demand it.

Much of the information on Ramsey's daily, three-hour radio program/podcast mirrors that which you'll find in The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas Stanley and William Danko. "Most people have it all wrong about wealth in America. Wealth is not the same as income. If you make a good income each year and spend it all, you are not getting wealthier. You are just living high. Wealth is what you accumulate, not what you spend."

Unfortunately, living high is precisely how most people in America choose to live — that's why so few build wealth. Many parents genuinely believe they both have to work, but the reason they do is not because we live in hard times but because today’s generation has grown up with every possible comfort and convenience.

They’ve never faced mass war or economic depression. They’ve never had to save their pennies and wait until Christmastime to get that one special thing they want. They’ve never been told they couldn’t buy something because they didn’t have the cash. They’ve never been told to walk or ride their bikes somewhere because there was no available car. They’ve never had to cook from scratch and make do with whatever’s in the pantry (until COVID-19 forced their hand), and they’ve never had to clip coupons. Today’s generation has become so accustomed to an easy life that they have no idea how to live any other way.

#1  COVID-19 is a game changer. There is no going back to "normalcy" (normal by which standard*). And no amount of denial is going to change it.

*To me, middle class imitating the habits of the leisure class doesn't seem normal. They are what they are, and we are what we are.

#3  My sister-in-law paid for her younger daughter and son-in-law to go through this course, because nothing less was getting through to them. Reportedly it was indeed life changing. The elder daughter didn’t need to learn those lessons.

Chicago Mayor Hires Gangs To Spell Out 'Trump Is Bad' With Bullet Holes
[Babylon Bee] Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot just owned Trump with a powerful, epic clapback as the two politicians fire insults back and forth. She commissioned several local gangs to spell out the message, "TRUMP IS BAD" in bullet holes.

"This powerful message of love and harmony shows that Chicago is united against Trump's brand of hate and violence," Lightfoot said at the unveiling of the mural. "We will not tolerate any of Trump's hate in our city."

At that very moment, Lightfoot suddenly bent backward and dodged several bullets fired by rival gangs as though she were Neo in The Matrix. "As you can see, our city is one of peace and love and tolerance."

All the gang members who shot the mural into existence are now dead from gang violence, but their message will live on as a powerful reminder that Chicago will not stoop to Trump's rhetoric.

Not to be outdone, Trump has instructed the military to spell out "CHICAGO IS STUPID" with bombs dropped on Chicago.

Worth a try. If it works, replicate; carpet bomb all the blue cities as a prophylactic measure.

Enough Whining About Trump's Mean Tweets
Kurt's bare knuckles time
You should be eternally grateful that the worst thing you can really say about Donald Trump is that he’s mean to knuckleheads on social media — and that literally is the worst thing you can say about Donald Trump without stepping into the territory of my new book, The 21 Biggest Lies About Donald Trump (and You!). Yeah, sometimes he tweets mean things, but always about terrible people. Get over it.

You should be glad he’s not, you know, destroying your healthcare, invading Iraq, or defiling the Oval Office like the last three nice guy tweeters did. So he’s poking Joe Scarborough, whose only fan is Nickelback because his music (Trigger Warning — NSFE: Not Safe For Ears) keeps them from being rock’s saddest punchline?

...Leaving aside that Trump is not a bully who starts these fights — that’s Lie No. 16 in my new book — the fact is that we didn’t elect Donald Trump to be President Feelgood Happy Time. We elected him to take a sledgehammer to the garbage establishment whose corruption, incompetence, and greed impoverished, insulted, and sometimes even killed normal Americans, regardless of which half of what the great Michael Walsh labeled the Bipartisan Fusion Party sat in the White House. And when you elect a sledgehammerer — and Trump is the John Henry of American politics — don’t come to me shaking your head muttering, "Goodness gracious, I expected him to be more subtle."

#1  Mean to the same media that vilified a life-saving drug so that it was taken out of use across the nation when it could have been saving lives.

He was not mean enough.

#2  Mean Tweets? Seems kind of trivial compared to the violence, looting, burning, beatings and sometimes murder in the occupied zones of blue cities.

#3  Maybe Kurt could convince George Will to stop his attack of vapors caused by Trump's "low brow plebeian Tweets"...?
