[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Models again? At least they won’t grow actual hair on their palms from playing with those.
MIT used a world simulation model to learn how our world would fare from 1972 to 2060
The model looked at a number of factors such as population, industrial output and persistent pollution, and found a societal collapse could happen by 2040
The research was criticized at the time, but an accounting firm analysis took another look at MIT's data and found their stark prediction was correct
The recent work shows our business-as-usual mentality will spark a decline of economic growth within the next decade, but a total collapse by 2040

If you read the headlines on today's Rantburg, one would think 2040 would be a best case scenario. Try 2030.

Say you are an Uber level Elitist with lots $$$$$.
What steps would you take to ensure you and yours continue to be in control?
Maybe? Like buying massive amounts of land with rivers for mini hydro-power plants, in northwestern/ mid-western states. Then setting up enclaves (principalities) in remote but well armed controllable locations?
Whom has been doing that a lot in the last 20 years?

I always wanted to be Hari Seldon. I read Asimov's books about the time I was learning physics and just loved the idea of knowing the equations of history. Probably more statistical mechanics than Newton's Three Laws, but still... hey, maybe we could train a neural network!

Everybody knows this is happening. Everybody knows it's against the law. Technically, legally, Biden should be impeached and removed from office for it. But only Tucker will talk about it.

Consider the possibilities. What is to stop a president like Biden, who is so obviously willing to engage in illegal activities and has so far gotten away with it, from secretly and illegally conferring citizenship on these people? And then, how would a legitimate government ever be able to identify and deport them? He can then provide them with welfare, healthcare and education at our expense and they can then vote Democrat in red states that will then be turned blue. What is to stop Biden from using the military age invaders to form a clandestine army to be used at Biden's discretion for strictly extra-constitutional purposes?

[Rusvesna] Zakhar Prilepin, a well-known Russian writer and former deputy commander of the DPR Army, comments on the program article published yesterday by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the unity of Russians and Ukrainians.
"The emperor correctly writes in his article that Kiev does not need Donbass.
I would also like to remind you that Kyev does not need Rusyns and the Rusyns do not need Kyev, because the Rusyns filed for secession back in the same distant 2014, but Kyev hushed up the case with the Rusyns. But Rusyns remember their desire.
Kiev does not need Odessa, since Kyev tried to burn it down.
Kiev does not need Kharkov, it is pro-Russian.
Kiev does not need Poltava, the Russian imperialist Gogol was born there.
Kiev does not need Kherson, because Kyev did not build it.
Kiev does not need Lvov, because Lvov belongs to Stalin.
Kiev does not need Russian Kiev.
But first, Donbass. It's right. All Donbass.
Let us remind you that Vladimir Putin in his article recalled how exactly the current Ukraine ended up within its modern borders and at the expense of whom it grew in territories. He also recalled the policy of indigenousization pursued by the Bolsheviks, which for the Ukrainian SSR resulted in the development of the Ukrainian language and culture. The President called modern Ukraine the brainchild of the Soviet era.
A little earlier Prilepin wrote in his Telegram channel:
“I flew here on a plane, read the latest issues of the AIF and KP with two pages dedicated to the problem of Ukraine.
The main message is "we are one people" (true) and "Ukraine was created under the USSR" (in fact, no, it is not true - because both the Zaporozhye Sich, and the Little Russian territories within the Commonwealth, and the Ukrainian-Kharkov province in the 19th century in as part of Russia, and Ukraine Skoropadsky and other petlyurs - all this was before the USSR; Yeltsin created a sovereign Ukraine in its present form in 1991. And the Bolsheviks returned it to Russia. Do not confuse this).

All very well and good (bad news for the Dinos, though) but still germane should one consider the seismic analysis performed to identify 'ripples' in a seabed 5000 ft deep.
Imagine what cave and tunnel structures can have been mapped from recent opportunistic (targeted?) explosions.

Considering that the Earth's surface is 75% water, it would follow that any random asteriod strike would also have a 75% chance of ocean effects.
But they act suprised.

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
