Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. [ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Gunmen raided three villages in northern Nigeria’s Katsina state, killing six people, a police front man said on Monday.
The black-clad group, riding on cycle of violences, attacked Makers, Dan Sabau and Pawwa villages in Kankara district late Sunday, firing guns and rocket-propelled grenades, Gambo Isah told AFP.
"Six people from the attacked villages were killed but we killed many of the bandidos in a shootout that lasted for more than an hour," Isah added.
He said police were combing the bushes for the bodies of the assailants.
Cattle rustling and kidnapping gangs have long operated in this volatile region, but recently there has been concern that forces of Evil have infiltrated them.

The spokesperson of the Arab Coalition, Col. Turki al-Maliki, said that on Monday morning, the Houthis attempted to attack a commercial ship south of the Red Sea using a booby-trapped boat with explosives, according to a statement on the Saudi Press Agency.

[DW] German rescue boat "Alan Kurdi" has picked up 44 people that were stranded off the Libyan coast. The rescue comes a day after the same boat handed over 65 migrants colonists to Malta.
Sea-Eye wrote on Twitter that the Maltese navy had aided the rescue attempt: "The Alan Kurdi has rescued 44 persons from a wooden boat in cooperation with Maltese authorities."
The German rescue mission added: "A ship of the Maltese Navy is now on its way to take the people from the Alan Kurdi and bring them to Land."
The Maltese authorities, however, have not confirmed their participation.

Sea-Eye said it was alerted to the latest migrants colonists in distress off the Libyan coast by Tunisian fishermen and the Colibri civilian search plane.
The rescued migrants colonists said they left Zuwara in Libya early Saturday.
The Maltese authorities asked a nearby freighter to coordinate the rescue, which told the Sea-Eye to take those in distress on board.
"Forty-four people, including four women and three children," were brought aboard the Alan Kurdi, Sea-Eye said.
The children are 15 months, three and five years old. The people come from Syria, Libya, Pakistain, Bangladesh and Guinea.

The defendant said his remark was intended to impress women.
A second defendant, 24-year-old Reda Nidalha, also went on trial on Monday, accused of membership in a terrorist organization and recruiting radical jihadists via Facebook.
Dutch-born Nidalha, who sat in a black t-shirt, which a shaved head and thick beard, was questioned by judges for hours at the opening of hearings on Monday.
He denied allegations of recruiting, saying he had been joking when he chatted on Facebook about friends joining him in Raqqa, the self-declared capital of Islamic State's "caliphate."
"In 2014, I went to Syria to help people, women and kiddies," he told a panel of judges. "I didn't join to fight. I provided basic medical assistance."
Nidalha said he couldn't explain how his family obtained photos of him wearing army fatigues and posing with weapons.
In Syria, he said he received first aid training, not weapons training, and then helped emergency medical teams collecting the dead and maimed from the battlefield.
Nidalha denied accusations of trying to recruit four people for Islamic State, saying the Facebooks chats were "not serious."

[FoxNews] The embattled MS-13 gang is now said to be holding their membership meetings inside abandoned buildings and vacant, foreclosed homes on New York’s Long Island in a bid to escape the ever-tightening grasp of law enforcement.
The organization known for its ruthless and violent killings has decided to move indoors after being forced out of the wooded areas where they sometimes would gather to plot attacks and bury the bodies of their victims, Nassau police Det. Sgt. Michael Marino – who heads his department’s Gang Investigations Squad – told Newsday this week.
Marino says police recently worked with officials “to remove and prevent MS-13 from occupying a vacant home” in the town of New Cassel. Gang graffiti had been discovered on the property and several arrests were made following a surveillance operation, he added.
Police also reportedly are working with local governments to get foreclosed homes boarded up so they don’t become the next MS-13 meeting locations. One of the nature preserves gang members used to frequent is now filled with surveillance cameras, Marino told Newsday.
The crackdown comes as the gang’s influence appears to be diminishing in Long Island – a region considered to be one of their U.S. strongholds.
The gang is believed to have killed as many as 28 there between 2016 and 2017, but only one murder was attributed to them in that area last year, according to Newsday.
Marino says MS-13 has 284 active members in Nassau County – down from around 1,000 five years ago.

Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war.
