#6  ... meaning it is warming 80 years faster than previously thought.

An alternative explanation is their model is wrong enough to be nearly worthless, what with it being off by nearly a century.

As the great Feynman said, if the predictions from your theory don't match the observations, then your theory is wrong. It's really that simple.

I don't know how long the Arctic temperature record is, but in the US, "ever" is about 1870 or so.

NYPD cops joke ‘Welcome to New York’ when woman reports gunshots
[NYPOST] New York City has become a "warzone" in the aftermath of the social unrest and anti-cop fervor that emerged from the George Floyd protests, some NYPD officers now concede.

In stunning audio obtained by The Post early Saturday — after at least a dozen shootings across four boroughs overnight — cops can be heard referencing the dire situation after a woman called the NYPD seeking an escort home.

"Female [inaudible] feels uncomfortable walking home, states that she is walking home, and it’s a warzone. Combination of fireworks and gunshots," one officer says, according to the recording which was confirmed by a law enforcement official.

"Welcome to New York," a second officer quips.

"Tell me about it," the first cop agrees. "[She] heard four to five rounds."

The radio call was made somewhere in Southeast Queens, where a 911 caller reported shots fired at 175th Street and Sayres Avenue around 8:30 pm.

Department brass has heard the call, an NYPD spokesperson said Saturday, and it is under review.

From Monday through Saturday afternoon, there were at least 46 shootings across the five boroughs, according to the NYPD.

Reports of illegal fireworks are also on the rise, with complaints rising 4,000 percent during the first two weeks of June

Welcome to New New York!

Fifth Column
Manhattan U.S. attorney Geoffrey Berman canned, sez he is leaving post
[The Hill] Manhattan U.S. attorney Geoffrey Berman announced Saturday evening that he will be leaving his post with the Southern District of New York (SDNY) "effective immediately" after U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr said he had requested his official firing from President Trump.

"In light of Attorney General Barr’s decision to respect the normal operation of law and have Deputy U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss become Acting U.S. Attorney, I will be leaving the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, effective immediately," Berman said in a statement Saturday.

The Justice Department announced late Friday that it would replace Berman and that Berman had "stepped down."

Later that night, Berman said that he had no intention of resigning from his post.

On Saturday, Barr sent Berman a letter notifying him that President Trump had agreed to fire him, saying he had "chosen public spectacle over public service."

"Because you have declared that you have no intention of resigning, I have asked the President to remove you as of today, and he has done so," Barr wrote.

Did Rayshard Brooks' Girlfriend Burn Down the Wendy's?
[Townhall] The Wendy's in Atlanta, where Rayshard Brooks passed out in the drive-thru and then attacked police officers, was burned to the ground the next day. Investigators have now issued an arrest warrant for a Natalie White, wanted for first-degree arson. In bodycam footage from the night of the shooting, Brooks can be heard saying Natalie White was his girlfriend, CNN reported. Is it the same Natalie White?
A girlfriend, and a white girlfriend at that, does rather put paid to his wife’s description of a devoted family man who just wanted to get home to celebrate his daughter’s birthday. And why give the police his girlfriend’s name instead of his wife’s?
According to the report, police have been working with the idea that the suspect(s) may be linked to Rayshard Brooks. Police say more suspects may be involved.

Trump holds Tulsa rally amid protests, coronavirus concerns
[DW] President Donald Trump
...Oh, noze! Not him!...
has held his first major rally in months in a bid to boost his chances of reelection. Though the crowd was smaller than expected, health officials warned the event could spark a surge in cases.

Thousands of Trump supporters descended on Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Saturday for the US president's first campaign rally in more than three months.

"You are warriors," Trump told his supporters after taking the stage.

The event followed weeks of protests about racial inequality, and as the US continues to battle a pandemic.

Tulsa has seen COVID-19 cases spike over the past week. Local health officials warned that holding a massive gathering at a 19,000-person indoor arena only increased the risk of coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
spreading.

The crowd ultimately appeared lighter than expected, with thousands of empty seats. Campaign officials also scrapped plans for the president to first address an overflow crowd outdoors.

STAFFERS TEST POSITIVE
Just hours before the rally, Trump's campaign reported that six members of staff who had been helping set up the event had tested positive for the virus.

"Quarantine procedures were immediately implemented," Tim Murtaugh, the campaign communications director, said in a statement. "No COVID-positive staffers or anyone in immediate contact will be at today's rally or near attendees and elected officials."

Hand sanitizer and masks were handed out at the entrance, but the campaign also issued a disclaimer, telling those attending that they must "assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19."

REELECTION BID
Trump is seeking reelection in November, but is trailing in the polls behind his Democratic rival Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
...Old, boring, a plagiarist, fond of hair sniffing and grabbing the protruding parts of women, and not whatcha call brilliant...
. His campaign has been marred by criticism over his handling of the coronavirus outbreak and his response to the police killing of African American George Floyd in Minneapolis last month. Trump has also come under fire for deciding to hold the rally in Tulsa, where hundreds of black residents were killed by white mobs in 1921.

Protests were also held in Tulsa on Saturday, and some of the city's Black leaders had voiced concerns about unrest. Authorities said they expected around 100,000 people in the downtown area.

Trump warned Friday that the rally aimed to focus on reopening the coronavirus-hit economy, and that any "protesters, anarchists, agitators, looters or lowlifes" who traveled to Oklahoma would be firmly dealt with.

And the speech itself:

From the Jerusalem Post, courtesy of g(r)omgoru:
Many took to crediting a social media campaign that started over the popular social media app TikTok, which had sought to encourage people to buy tickets to the rally and then not attend in order to limit the crowd size.

This campaign started when 51-year-old grandmother Mary Jo Laupp, who on Pete Buttigieg's campaign in Iowa last fall, posted a video on the app encouraging followers to buy tickets and not attend.

"All of those of us that want to see this 19,000 seat auditorium barely filled or completely empty go reserve tickets now and leave him standing alone there on the stage," she said, according to CNN. She did this due to the controversy surrounding the rally from both coronavirus and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Another effort is believed to have come from the k-pop fandom, with many over social media having called on the South Korean music genre's very active online fan-base to engage in this particular form of trolling.

Responding over Twitter to Parscale's claim of radical activists, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted "Actually you just got ROCKED by teens on TikTok who flooded the Trump campaign w/ fake ticket reservations & tricked you into believing a million people wanted your white supremacist open mic enough to pack an arena during COVID.

"Shout out to Zoomers. Y’all make me so proud," she added, referring to members of Generation Z.The congresswoman then added: "KPop allies, we see and appreciate your contributions in the fight for justice too."

Posted by: Procopius2k || 06/21/2020 15:43 Comments || Top||

#5  I vote that the next rally charges $5 per ticket. Anyone who then buys up a block of seats — and doesn’t arrive to sit in them — should be publicly thanked by President Trump for their substantial donation, and be regularly sent requests for additional. And half an hour before the thing starts, the overflow crowd should be allowed in — for free — in matching numbers.
Posted by: trailing wife || 06/21/2020 16:13 Comments || Top||

#6  Don't have Trump events, have Pence events. Then have Trump show up at random ones. It'll make it harder for spoilers to split their efforts.

Also outside the venue, play those frequencies that only the young can hear to harass the young protestors with country music or even just feedback.

And maybe pass a law through Congress saying that physically attacking people attending a political event is an attempt to influence the election and will be tried on that basis.

Some good news for a change
[JPost]- The Ministerial Committee on Legislation decided on Sunday to advance two separate bills that would legalize cannabis, guaranteeing the coalition's support for them in the Knesset.
The bills were submitted by Likud MK Sharren Haskel and Blue and White MK Ram Shefa. They were postponed last week, due in part to opposition from Community Development Minister Orly Levy-Abecassis (Gesher).

US halts test of Trump-touted hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 patients
[Jpost] The US National Institutes of Health said on Saturday it has halted a clinical trial to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine for the treatment of hospitalized COVID-19 patients.
As I understand it, the evidence thus far strongly suggests it’s best used in the early stages to prevent the disease from progressing to the point where hospitalization is needed.
The study found that hydroxychloroquine, which President Donald Trump
...the Nailer of NAFTA...
has frequently touted a possible treatment, did not provide any benefit to the patients, even though it did no harm, NIH said in a statement.
Given that not long ago they were claiming the stuff was only useful for murdering the deathly ill, that’s a significant improvement.
Earlier this week, the World Health Organization said testing of hydroxychloroquine in its large multi-country trial of treatments for COVID-19 patients had been halted after new data and studies showed no benefit.

The US Food and Drug Administration revoked its emergency use authorization for hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 on Monday.

Trump had promoted the drug as a potential treatment, saying in March it could turn out to be "one of the biggest game changers in the history of medicine" when used in combination with the antibiotic azithromycin.
...and zinc. Mustn't forget zinc, which is critical.
Last month, in a surprise announcement, Trump said he was taking a course of hydroxychloroquine as a preventative after two White House aides tested positive for the novel coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
that causes COVID-19.
But it didn’t even cause him to blink, which only goes to show that he is Satan and immune to poisons, not that it is safe for anyone else..
NIH announced its trial of hydroxychloroquine, which is used to treat malaria and rheumatoid conditions such as arthritis, in April.

#7  Murc good one. By the way I just tried to do a search on "know cases of lupus patients with covid-19 "virus". Couldn't find any real numbers. Which leads me to guess "they" don't want us to know. Something to ponder. I'm willing to be Skid might find some.

As far as masks. I rarely if ever see anyone and I do mean anyone with real surgical masks.

#8  It's all about the feelz. It makes them feel 'socially responsible'.

#9  This from the same people who can't decide whether masks are good or bad, think that ventilators are the sh*t and want us to stay in lockdown until there is a vaccine (i.e. potentially never).

#10  I don't deny the science involved with masks. I deny your ability to tell me I must wear a mask.

I haven’t noticed g(r)omgoru telling anyone they must wear a mask, merely that it will make a significant difference. Nor does he have any enforcement powers, either at home or over Americans.

This is not a binary, yes/no question; when the number of hospitalizations is too high or increasing, or when people are closely crowded together, or when a subpopulation (old folks in retirement homes or those with the wrong co-morbidities) is particularly at risk, mask wearing is the right thing to do. Among the healthy, where people have plenty of space, or when hospitalizations are at a reasonable level or deceasing, mask wearing is unnecessary. And this will hold true beyond the current pandemic — hopefully when flu season comes round in the autumn, people will pull out their masks if they or those around them fall into high risk categories. Ditto working from home and washing hands more frequently.
Posted by: trailing wife || 06/21/2020 16:38 Comments || Top||

#11  In Germany wearing a mask is mandatory on public transport and shops. People follow these rules because they make sense. Wearing a mask in crowded situation is the right thing to do. For obvious reason. If you wear a masks you reduce the risk of infecting others, and if the person next to you wears a mask he reduces the risk of infecting you. If both wear masks, the mutual benefit is obvious.

Wearing a mask vor 30 minutes or so isn't really a big sacrifice.

Outdoors, in non-cramped situations, most people take their masks off. Infection risk is minimal.

Wearing a mask shouldn't be a political issue.

#12  Also, Israel remains in a state of low grade war that could go hot if the Arabs believe Israeli defenses have been weakened, which changes the risk evaluation. They can’t have entire units down with even a bad cold at the wrong time — and often the troops go home for the weekend, which makes most of the population front-line-adjacent.

This also should mean Israel requiring American visitors and others to either take a course of hydroxychloroquine-plus or be quarantined for two weeks before being released to wander the country at will.

Ulysses Grant statue toppled in San Francisco
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Protesters on Friday toppled a statue in the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
of former President Ulysses S. Grant, who famously led the Union Army to victories that crippled and ultimately brought down the Confederacy.

The statue of Grant, who also served as the nation’s eighteenth president, was among three monuments in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park knocked down during the evening by a group of protesters.

Other monuments toppled include a statue of Junípero Serra, an 18th century missionary recently declared a saint in the Catholic Church, and Francis Scott Key, the author of "The Star-Spangled Banner," the national anthem.

Police said roughly 400 protesters were at the park around the time the statues were taken down, the local NBC affiliate reported. No arrests were made, the local CBS station added.

The statues in San Francisco are among the latest to be dismantled as monuments around the country are toppled following last month’s racially charged killing of George Floyd.

#1  Let's just understand. This is not about justice. It's an insurrection bent on pushing the spineless governments, who are more concerned about image than function, out. It's about power.

#11  Re #8: Deacon, according to Wikipedia, d he did own a slave, but emancipated him rather than sell him. Grant's wife and his in-laws owned slaves.
Posted by: Rambler in Virginia || 06/21/2020 10:48 Comments || Top||

#12  Rambler, other sources think Grant didn't actually own him but rather he was bonded to Grant as a man servant. It is unclear if Grant released him from his service or freed him. However, Grant did use the services of his Father-in-law's slaves, paying him for their use. Grant never, as far as I can find out, expressed his views on slavery. He seemed to be apathetic about it.

The North Face pauses paid advertising on Facebook, first major brand
[Jpost] Business Insider reported that The North Face will also be halting advertising on Instagram as well, owned by Facebook, according to a direct statement.

The North Face will no longer be running paid advertisements on Facebook, the clothing company announced on Friday.

The decision surrounds several United States civil rights groups calling upon some of the world's largest companies to pause advertising on Facebook starting in July, saying the social network is not doing enough to stop hate speech on its platforms.
