Google Diversity Chief Offers Private Apology for Anti-Semitic Remarks As Company Remains Silent
The learned gentleman’s response to this story from yesterday.
[WashingtonFreeBeacon] Google flack: 'I am not offering this as an official statement from Google, nor am I speaking as an authorized Google spokesperson'
Like in all the ambulance-chasing Attorney ads: "I'm a non-attorney spokesperson"
Google’s global diversity leader apologized privately on Tuesday night to the company's Jewish employees for a blog post in which he argued that Jews have an "insatiable appetite for war," but the tech company remains mum on the controversy.

Kamau Bobb, Google’s global lead for diversity strategy and research, sent an email apology to a listserv of Jewish Google employees—known within the company as the "Jewglers"—and said his "hurtful" statements about Jews were part of a ham-handed attempt to criticize Israel’s military action.
Golly. I guess that’s all right, then — since he didn’t mean to be hurtful.
A consultant for Google passed along the note to the Free Beacon with a set of strict instructions regarding its use: "Please also note that while I work with Google, I am not offering this as an official statement from Google, nor am I speaking as an authorized Google spokesperson," the consultant said in an email. Google itself has yet to offer any official comment on the dust-up, nor has the tech giant, whose CEO Sundar Pinchai issued a lengthy note last summer detailing his commitment to "racial equity," made any public remarks on the recent spate of anti-Semitic attacks.

Bobb told Google's Jewish employees that his anti-Semitic tirade was "intended as a critique of particular military action" and apologized for "crudely" characterizing all Jews.

"[T]he world is leaving us all feeling unsafe and unsettled right now. i certainly don't want to contribute to that," he added. "[N]one of this changes or excuses the words i wrote — but i am deeply sorry for them."

Bobb's 2007 blog post, titled "If I were a Jew," was reported by the Washington Free Beacon on Tuesday. In the post, Bobb offered his thoughts on how Jews should view the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict.

"If I were a Jew I would be concerned about my insatiable appetite for war and killing in defense of myself," he wrote in the Nov. 30, 2007, post on his personal blog, where he was still actively publishing as recently as April 2021. "Self defense is undoubtedly an instinct, but I would be afraid of my increasing insensitivity to the suffering [of] others."

Jewish organizations have slammed the post as anti-Semitic and called on Google to address the controversy.

".@Google must fire this #antisemite #KamauBobb," wrote the Simon Wiesenthal Center, one of the most prominent anti-Semitism watchdog groups, on Twitter.

Michael Dickson, executive director of Stand With Us, a group that fights anti-Semitism, wrote on Twitter: "Did @Google Google [Bobb]? He’s not fit for this post."

In Bobb’s email to Google employees on Tuesday night, he said his blog "is a place for my personal reflection on a number of complex issues spanning years."

Sudan Says Plan for Russian Naval Base Is up for Review
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] Sudan is reviewing an agreement to host a Russian naval base on its Red Sea coast, which was reached under former President Omar al-Bashir
...Former President-for-Life of Sudan He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself head cheese. He fell out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Hee was overthrown by popular consent in 2019. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it...
who was toppled in 2019, the Sudanese military chief of staff said on Wednesday.

Chief of Staff Mohammed Othman al-Hussein told Sudan’s Blue Nile TV that the transitional authorities now have "the freedom to review the agreement to meet the interests of the country."

"If the agreement achieves gains for us and meets Russia’s interests, there’s no problem."

Sudan has been improving its ties with the United States since Bashir was toppled by the military after 30 years in power, following widespread demonstrations against his rule. Sudan is now run by a technocratic government and council of civilian and military figures due to cede power by the end of 2023.

Last year Washington appointed its first ambassador in Khartoum for decades and removed Sudan from its list of state sponsors of terrorism. As part of the thaw, Sudan has agreed to normalize diplomatic relations with US ally Israel.

Moscow has long sought warm water ports for its navy. President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
published a decree in November saying he had approved a Russian government proposal to set up a naval logistics hub in Sudan.

Hussein noted that the deal for a Russian base had not been presented to a yet-to-be-formed legislative council that will act as a parliament during the political transition in Sudan.

The Kremlin said it had seen Hussein’s comments, and that Moscow was in regular contact with Sudan and hoped it could resolve the situation.

Senior Russian foreign ministry official Mikhail Bogdanov suggested additional talks to clarify the situation, and said Russia would be happy to clarify anything on its side, the Interfax news agency reported.

Britain
The babies paying the price of cultural tradition: It's estimated that more than half of Pakistani-heritage couples in Britain are in cousin marriages. Now community leaders are confronting the troubling medical risks
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] The Born In Bradford Study found that half the city’s babies born each year are to Pakistani-heritage mothers. Like Tahira, two-thirds of these women are married either to first or second cousins, a fact which heightens the risk of their offspring dying or having disabilities.

This multicultural part of Yorkshire is not the only place where baby deaths or illnesses are being blamed on close-kin marriage. Britain’s second city Birmingham recently announced an emergency taskforce to investigate high levels of infant mortality after health and social care officials revealed deaths of newborns there are twice the national average.

While poverty and deprivation play a role in the crisis, a fifth of all infant deaths are a result of genetic problems caused when cousins marry and have children, says a report from Birmingham City Council. Babies of Pakistani and South Asian heritage are disproportionately affected, with one in 188 stillborn compared to one in every 295 white babies.

The disturbing disclosures so alarmed the former Chief Crown Prosecutor for North-West England, Nazir Afzal, that he said there is a case for barring marriage between close relations to end the suffering of ‘profoundly affected children and parents’.

The prominent campaigner for women and children’s rights, whose own parents arrived in Britain from Pakistan, explained to the Mail: ‘The first duty of a Government is to protect its citizens from harm. There is a strong argument, down the road, for it to consider whether first-cousin unions should be outlawed in the same way as incest is. We are tired of burying our babies.’

Mr Afzal, who successfully prosecuted the Asian sex abuse gang in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, added it was ‘ridiculous’ that cultural sensitivity stopped people talking about a problem that has been in ‘plain sight’ for years ‘bringing misery to dozens of families’.

The problem is that babies born in cousin marriages can suffer what are called ‘recessive’ genetic disorders, associated with severe disability and early death.

These disorders are caused by variant genes. If you inherit one recessive variant gene you will not fall ill or die. If, however, a child inherits the same variant gene from each of its related parents, it is at higher risk of a health problem.

The likelihood of a couple both having the same variant gene is 100 to one in the general population. In cousin marriages, that can rise to one in eight because people who are related to each other are more likely to carry the same faults in their DNA. And the problem only intensifies as cousin marriages continue generation after generation.

Yet despite the health dangers, it is estimated that 55 per cent of Pakistani-heritage couples — like Tahira and her husband in Bradford — are in cousin marriages.

And while British Pakistani couples are responsible for 3 per cent of births overall in the UK, they account for a third — 33 per cent — of children with genetic birth defects.

The unions — called, in medical parlance, consanguineous, meaning a marriage between close relatives — are popular because they are believed to strengthen the family unit and keep wealth intact.

Official government figures for England, uncovered by the Mail in 2018, revealed cousin marriages are a key factor in an average of two child deaths every week. Distressingly, many surviving children of the couples involved have physical or mental problems.

These include blindness, deafness, blood ailments such as thalassemia — which can make sufferers anaemic — heart or kidney failure, lung or liver ailments, and myriad complex neurological or brain disorders.

Doctors working with the Born In Bradford study have in the past identified 140 different gene disorders among local children, compared with 20 to 30 you would expect to find among the general population.

#11  Sue Reid writes about the subject periodically for the Daily Mail. Here is one of her articles, from 2018.

The other issue, besides the human tragedy of it all, is that the British taxpayer is paying for the increasingly expensive health care for these children, siphoning off funds and medical staff that otherwise would be used for the rest of the population. This is just another form of jizya as far as the devout are concerned, instead of the host nation insisting that either close cousin marriages are forbidden altogether due to to the risk, or only allowing those whom genetic testing shows to be low risk for reinforcing dangerous recessives.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan Says Turkey Could Target Refugee Camp Deep Inside Iraq
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than there are in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really most important...
has warned Iraq that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
will "clean up" a refugee camp which it says provides a safe haven for Kurdish bad boys, threatening to take its long military campaign deeper inside Iraqi territory.

Ottoman Turkish forces have stepped up attacks on bases of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) inside northern Iraq over the last year, focusing their firepower and incursions mainly on a strip of territory up to 30 km (about 20 miles) inside Iraq.

But Erdogan said Makhmour, a camp 180 km south of the Ottoman Turkish border which has hosted thousands of Ottoman Turkish refugees for more than two decades, was an "incubator" for holy warriors and must be tackled.

"If the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
does not clean it up, we will do it as a UN member," Erdogan said, adding that Ankara believed Makhmour posed as great a threat as the PKK's stronghold in the Qandil mountains further north.

"How long are we supposed to be patient about it?" he told Ottoman Turkish state broadcaster TRT in an interview late on Tuesday.

A senior Iraqi official told Rooters that Turkey complained last week to Baghdad about "terrorist activities launched by the PKK from their camp in Makhmour against Turkey".

Security commanders and local officials investigated the Ottoman Turkish complaint and told the government that the Makhmour camp was controlled by PKK fighters who did not allow access to government forces, the official said.

An Iraqi government front man did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The camp was established in the 1990s when thousands of Kurds from Turkey crossed the border in a movement Ankara says was deliberately provoked by the PKK.

The PKK, designated a terrorist organization by the United States and European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, has fought an insurgency against the state in mainly Kurdish southeast Turkey since 1984. More than 40,000 people have been killed in the conflict.

Makhmour was targeted by Ottoman Turkish air strikes a year ago, although there were no reports of casualties at the time, but a senior Ottoman Turkish official said it was now a priority for Ankara.

"Makhmour camp is being used as one of the logistics centers in attacks against Turkey or the Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces," the official said. "It's time now, it has to be cleansed of PKK."

Turkey to Activate S-400 Missile System, Send Home Russian Missile Experts
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
said it will send home Russian missile experts overseeing the S-400 air defense technology that has strained ties with the United States, addressing one of Washington’s concerns with the system.

The remarks, which come ahead of a planned meeting between Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. summit in Brussels mid-June, signal Ankara’s readiness to compromise on one element of US concerns.

Ottoman Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said the system would be under Ottoman Turkish control when the experts leave.

However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
he reiterated Ankara would not budge on Washington’s broader demand to abandon the missiles in order for related US sanctions to be lifted.

"The S-400s will be under our 100 percent control. We’ve sent many technicians for training. The Russian military experts won’t stay in Turkey," Cavusoglu said on a visit to Greece.

But he rejected US calls on Turkey not to activate the missiles. "It is not possible to accept calls from another country to not use them," he stressed.

Ankara had submitted a roadmap to Washington in order to resolve outstanding bilateral issues, he said, noting that it is currently being reviewed.

"There are outstanding issues between Washington and Ankara, topped by the Russian S-400 missiles, the US support for the Kurdish People’s Protection Units in Syria and Fethullah Gülen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world. Gülen and Erdogan used to be really good friends, but only one of them could be sultan, and Gülen lost...
’s Hizmet (Service) Movement, as well as Biden's recognition of the Armenian genocide."

The US administration is willing to establish good ties with Turkey through dialogue and joint cooperation, either under through NATO or bilaterally, Cavusoglu explained.

Two US delegations have visited Ankara, during which intelligence, military and political senior figures from both sides held talks.

Ankara and Washington have been at odds over issues including Syria policy, human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
and the S-400 air defense acquisition, over which the US has sanctioned Turkey and removed it from its F-35 fighter jet program.

In March, Cavusoglu and Antony Blinken held their first face-to-face meeting since the US State Secretary took office.

"We may discuss differences with Washington and what future steps to take on strategic topics by establishing a bilateral working group," he said back then. "We need to work on a roadmap."

ICRC Chief Urges Israel, Palestinians to End Cycle of Violence

On his first visit to Gaza in four years, Robert Mardini toured areas devastated by Israeli bombardments during the 11 days of fighting, including a road where 42 people were killed.

"It is really heart-breaking to see and to hear about the people who paid the ultimate cost of this escalation - women, children, civilians who were living safely in their apartments and were caught in this rubble that we see behind us," he told Rooters.

"I hope this is the last time I am coming to witness yet again the results and the humanitarian impact of yet again another cycle of violence and escalation."

Gaza medical officials said Israeli Arclight airstrike

"What is really needed is politicianship on all sides to avoid that people yet again are in the line of fire because of yet again another round of escalation," Mardini said.

"Political leadership to find a sustainable solution that is more sustainable than what we have been witnessing over the past decade and more."

Asked whether he would discuss the prospects of a new prisoners' swap deal while the region, Mardini said the ICRC stood ready to help the parties should there be a deal.

"We have repeatedly offered our services as a neutral intermediary, so we will be renewing this offer yet again," he said.

Standing by the rubble of the houses of Kolak family, which lost 22 members in Israeli airstrikes, Mardini spoke to some survivors.

"My grandfather died, my father died, his (father's) son died, his grandchild died, a dynasty was martyred," said Wasim al-Kolak, 31, urging international prosecution of Israel.

Jordan Refers 2 Ex-Senior Officials to Security Court over Plot to Destabilize Kingdom
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] Two suspects in an alleged plot to destabilize Jordan will face trial in the kingdom's State Security Court, state media reported Wednesday.

Judicial sources said the step paved the way for the trial of Bassem Awadallah, an ex-royal court chief and finance minister who played a big role in the drive to liberalize the economy, and Sherif Hassan Zaid, a distant relative of the king.

"The investigation was completed and the file has been sent to the Attorney General," an official source said, quoted by the official Petra news agency.

Prosecutors must now draw up charges and set a date for the trial, according to Jordanian legal procedure.

"The file will be referred to the Public Prosecutor at the State Security Court to carry out the legal requirement of issuing an indictment," after which "trial sessions" will begin, Professor of Constitutional Law, Laith Nasrawin, told state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
The charges "will not deviate from the crimes of undermining the political regime, as defined by Article 49 of the Penal Code, and... acts that disturb public order and threaten societal security, which is considered a crime of terrorism," he added.

Eighteen suspects were arrested after authorities on April 3 announced they had foiled a bid to destabilize the kingdom, but 16 were released later that month.

When news of the alleged plot broke, King Abdullah's half-brother Prince Hamzah was suspected of involvement.

The government accused the former crown prince, who was sidelined as heir to the throne in 2014, of involvement in a conspiracy to "destabilize the kingdom's security".

But authorities said later he would not stand trial, as his case had been resolved within the royal family.

UN Gaza Relief Chief Called in by Bosses after Comments over Israeli Air Strikes
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] The Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
director of the UN agency that deals with Paleostinian refugees has been called in for consultation with his bosses in Jerusalem after angering Paleostinians with comments they said favored Israel during last month's fighting.

Protests have erupted in the territory over the comments by UNRWA Gaza chief Matthias Schmale in an interview with Israel's N12 television on May 22, in which he said he did not dispute Israel's assertion that its air strikes were "precise".

Eleven days of conflict between Israel and Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", erupted on May 10. More than 250 Paleostinians were killed in hundreds of Israeli air strikes in Gaza. More than 4,000 rockets, many intercepted, fired by Gaza snuffies killed 13 people in Israel.

Hamas, the group that rules the enclave has ridiculed him as "a front man for the Israeli military".

Schmale, based in Gaza, has apologized for his remarks in which he was commenting on the ferocity of the air strikes and said: "... precision was there but there was unacceptable and unbearable loss of life on the civilian side".

Sami Mshasha, UNRWA's front man in Jerusalem, said on Wednesday Schmale and his deputy had been "called in for consultation and discussion at the Jerusalem headquarters over the latest developments in Gaza".

Another official told Rooters that Deputy Commissioner-General Leni Stenseth would temporarily lead the Gaza team.

UNRWA provides education, health and relief services to around 5.7 million Paleostinian registered refugees in Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Leb

and Syria.

"In the coming few weeks, UNRWA will review the emergency response mechanism in Gaza to determine lessons and conclusions to improve UNRWA's response and performance during times of crisis and emergency," Mshasha said in a statement.

In a statement on May 25, Schmale said in apology: "There is no justification whatsoever for killing civilians." He said: "Military precision and sophistication are never a justification for war."

Israel's foreign ministry has said its forces acted "in accordance with international law, in defending our citizens from Hamas’ indiscriminate rocket fire".
The Times of Israel adds:
A front man for the United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
Relief and Works Agency told Channel 12 that Schmale had been called back to Jerusalem for consultations and had decided to take an extended leave of absence.

Schmale’s deputy David de Bold was also deemed persona non grata by Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,, according to Paleostinian media, which said the terror group was demanding that both he and Schmale be fired.

The UNRWA front man told Channel 12 that De Bold would continue his job remotely from Jerusalem and that Deputy Commissioner-General Leni Stenseth would run the Gazoo office on-site in the interim.

A protest scheduled outside UNRWA’s headquarters for Wednesday was canceled following Schmale’s departure.

IDF sees record number of Israeli Arab conscripts
From March, but still interesting, I think. More fruit of the spirit that led to the Abraham Accords.

Lebanon's Rai Berates Politicians as Deadlock Drags on

's most senior Christian holy man on Wednesday bemoaned the inability of the country's senior politicians to agree a government as the country sinks further into financial collapse.

"We don't have bread, we don't have medicine, we don't have fuel, what are they waiting for?" Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rai said after a meeting with President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
Prime Minister-designate Saad al-Hariri and Aoun have been at loggerheads over cabinet positions since October, preventing the formation of a government that is much needed to enact reforms and unlock foreign aid.

Lebanon has been without a government since Hassan Diab's cabinet resigned in the aftermath of the Beirut port blast last August. Diab's government has carried on in a caretaker capacity.

Any hopes of a breakthrough after Rai's visit to the presidential palace on Wednesday were dashed after Hariri and Aoun each issued statements criticizing the other.

Aoun accused Hariri of trying to overstep his powers while Hariri said the president was under the sway of his son-in-law MP Gebran Bassil.

"The country needs salvation; it doesn't need verbal war," Rai said. "Respect each other, insults don't do anything, they just muddy the waters."

Rai spoke ahead of a planned visit to the Vatican to meet Pope Francis
...Argentine liberation theologist, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio. He was elected pope in 2013. Rather than setting up shop in Avignon, where he belongs, the first Jesuit Pope chose to reside in the Domus Sanctae Marthae guesthouse instead of the papal apartments. He is big on climate change, against consumerism, and in favor of throwing a blanket over homosexual activity (so to speak) within the clergy. He's not real sure about the Resurrection, about Christ's divinity, and a few other things that would have gotten him burned at the stake a few hundred years ago, but he's hot for a certain South American Earth Mother Goddess...
on July 1.

Pope Francis, who has promised to visit Lebanon if fractious politicians agree on a new government, is meeting its Christian leaders to discuss the country's worsening economic meltdown.

UN Tribunal for Lebanon May Close after July over Financial Crisis
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] A UN tribunal set up to prosecute those behind the 2005 liquidation of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri said on Wednesday it will have to close after July if it is unable to resolve an acute funding shortage.

"The Special Tribunal for Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers, a practice dating back to the heady human sacrifice days of Baal Moloch...
(STL) regrets to announce that it is facing an unprecedented financial crisis. Without immediate funding, the Tribunal will not be able to operate beyond July 2021," it said in a statement.

Closing the tribunal would dash the hopes of families of victims in the Hariri murder and other attacks, but also those demanding that a UN tribunal bring to justice those responsible for the Beirut port blast last August that killed 200 and injured 6,500.

Last year the STL, located outside of The Hague, convicted former Hezbollah member Salim Jamil Ayyash for the bombing that killed Hariri and 21 others.

Ayyash was sentenced in absentia to five life terms in prison, while three alleged accomplices were acquitted due to insufficient evidence.

Created by a 2007 UN Security Council resolution and opened in 2009, the tribunal's budget last year was 55 million euros ($67 million) with Lebanon footing 49% of the bill and foreign donors and the UN members making up the rest.

Lebanon's Central Bank to Stop Bank Withdrawals from Dollar Accounts at Low Fixed Rate

's Central Bank said on Wednesday it would stop letting depositors withdraw money from dollar accounts at a fixed rate of 3,900 pounds per dollar, a rate far worse than on the black market but the only way many Lebanese had been able to access their funds.

Lebanese banks have mostly locked depositors out of their dollar accounts and blocked transfers abroad.
"Assurance and Confidence. That's our middle name"
Under a central bank circular last year, depositors were permitted to withdraw dollars, with the funds paid in the local currency at a rate of 3,900 pounds to the dollar.

That is only around a third of the value of dollars on the black market.

The Central Bank statement did not make it clear if an alternative system would be introduced to allow access to dollars in accounts.

More about the Iran Navy Ship that Sank after Fire in Gulf of Oman
Follow up to this and this from yesterday.
[AnNahar] An Iranian naval vessel sank in the Gulf of Oman Wednesday after efforts to put out a fire failed, but the crew safely disembarked, the navy said.
"Run Away!"
The fleet replenishment tanker Kharg had caught fire on Tuesday near the port of Jask on the Gulf of Oman. The fire broke out in "one of the systems" of the vessel, a navy statement said without elaborating.
The firefighting system? How embarrassing
Firefighting efforts continued "for 20 hours" before the ship went down, it said.

"Considering the spread of the fire, the mission to save the Kharg failed and it sank in waters off Jask."

It added that the vessel had left for a "training mission" in international waters days ago.

The port lies close to the Strait of Hormuz, the strategic chokepoint at the head of the Gulf through which a fifth of world oil output passes.

Jask is also important to Iran's economy as the site where the government plans to build the country's second-largest oil export terminal. A 1,000-kilometer pipeline from Bushehr province on the Gulf to Jask was put into service just days ago, the government said. It will provide a new bypass route for oil exports avoiding the Strait of Hormuz.

In recent months, there have also been reported attacks on Iranian shipping linked to its arch foe Israel. In April, Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
said its freighter Saviz was hit by an "explosion" in the Red Sea, after media reports said Israel had struck the ship.

#2  Separately, it appears that the oil refinery fire was a sign of Allah’s displeasure, not Israel’s, according to a post in the Times of Israel’s liveblog today:

The fire erupted at the state-owned Tondgooyan Petrochemical Co. to the south of Tehran last night. The Oil Ministry’s SHANA news agency says it was caused by a leak in two waste tanks at the facility. Authorities initially suggested the flames affected a liquified petroleum gas pipeline at the refinery.

Jalal Maleki, spokesman for the Tehran Fire Department, tells state TV that 10 fire department stations, including 60 heavy operating vehicles and more than 180 firefighters, took part in the operation to battle the blaze.
