Three men accused of homosexuality executed by IS in Derna
[LibyaHerald] Three men, accused of being homosexual, are reported to have been executed by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) in Derna yesterday.

They were shot in the head at the town's main Ateeq Mosque following afternoon (Asr) prayers. They were reportedly seized some months go.

The three have been named as Naseeb Al-Jazwi, Faraj Al-Shewi and Saad al Fahakhri. .

Following the creation of a Sharia Court in Derna last year, IS has imposed rigid Sharia law in the town. There have been public beheadings, people have been lashed for drinking alcohol, and a fortnight ago, a man accused of stealing gold had his hand cut off.

Its rigid interpretation of Islam in the town, has also included a ban on smoking and strict gender segregation similar to that imposed in Afghanistan during the Taliban era.

However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
many see in its imposition of such action, a reign of terror designed to maintain its rule in the town.

In November 2012, 12 men said to be homosexuals, were tossed in the clink
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
by the Islamist Nawasi Brigade in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
at a transvestite party. They were supposedly released a few days later by this was then denied. They have not been heard of since.

Further clashes west of Tripoli but coastal road open
[LibyaHerald] Clashes took place this evening in an area called Abu Sera between Zawia and the Warshfana area between forces linked to the Libyan National Army (LNA) and those of Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
.

There are also unconfirmed reports that LNA support forces (Zintanis and Warshefanis) are gathering east of Zawia to blockade it from that direction, as well as from the south. Eyewitness have told the Libya Herald that they have seen LNA forces at Sayed (west of Janzour) with no resistance being offered from Libya Dawn. As for the 27 Bridge, witness said the highway is still open.

There is a growing nervousness in Zawia at the Warshefana advance with locals accusing Misrata of having abandoned them. Most of the accusations are targeted at Misrata's Halboos Brigade which agreed a truce with the Warshefana and pulled out its fighters from the area. In particular they accuse Fathi Bashagha and Ali Dabeba, leaders of the brigade.

Bashagha also leads the Misratan delegation to the UNSMIL brokered Dialogue process.

Meanwhile today, it was reported that yet another Dawn attempt to seize Wattiya Airbase had been repulsed by LNA support forces.

1 Dead, 6 Taken Hostage in North Mali Attack
[AnNahar] Dozens of gunnies stormed a northern Mali town, killing one and taking six other people hostage in an attack blamed on Tuareg rebels, officials told AFP Friday.

"More than 50 gunnies from the Coordination for the Movements of Azawad (CMA) came Thursday to sow terror in Bintagoungou. They killed a man and took six hostages with them," said Hama Aboubacrine, mayor of the town about 90 kilometers to the west of Timbuktu.

"Everyone knows each other here. (The attackers) had a CMA flag," added the mayor.

The gunnies also pillaged several shops and a pharmacy, and made off with two vehicles.

A Bintagoungou resident also told AFP that his father was one of the six who were taken hostage.

CMA officials were not immediately available for comment on Friday, but a U.N. peacekeeping source in Mali also confirmed the attack.

The recent violence comes amid assurances by the CMA that it was committed to a peace accord brokered by Algeria and due to be ratified at a ceremony in Bamako on May 15.

Africa Subsaharan
Niger Urges Evacuation of Lake Chad over Boko Haram Attacks
[AnNahar] Niger authorities have urged people living on islands in Lake Chad to leave to avoid new attacks by Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
, after an assault by the Islamists last weekend left at least 74 dead.

The weekend attack was the country's heaviest loss since it joined a regional offensive against the Lion of Islams, and saw authorities declare three days of mourning from Wednesday.

"The governor of Diffa invites people living on the islands in Lake Chad to rejoin the mainland," a statement Thursday said, citing security reasons.

"Measures will be taken to ensure their safety and resettlement," the statement added.

Diffa is the bustling provincial capital of south-eastern Niger, which borders north-eastern Nigeria, considered the jihadists' stronghold.

Niger has several islands in Lake Chad, a vast body of water between it, Nigeria, Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
and Chad, the regular site of deadly Boko Haram raids.

Niger lost at least 46 soldiers and 28 civilians in the Boko Haram attack on the island of Karamga Saturday.

Interior Minister Hassoumi Massaoudou said Wednesday that "156 terrorists" were also killed in the assault on an army base on the island, and that 32 troops were missing.

He said Niger had since retaken control of Karamga.

Niger, along with Chad, Cameroon and Nigeria, has recently launched a joint offensive to end Boko Haram's six-year insurgency, which has claimed 13,000 lives and caused about 1.5 million people to flee their homes.

IS Jihadists Claim Execution of 15 Yemeni Soldiers
[AnNahar] Jihadists of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group claimed they beheaded four Yemeni soldiers and rubbed out another 11 execution-style in a video posted online Thursday, a monitoring group said.

The soldiers were shown in front of the camera before jihadists were seen sharpening their knives and killing four of them, according to SITE Intelligence Group, a U.S. website monitor.

The heads of the four young men were then seen on the ground, in the video said to have been filmed in the southern province of Shabwa.

The footage shows 10 more soldiers, blindfolded and crouching with their hands bound, being shot once each in the forehead, while another is riddled with bullets from behind.

According to SITE, Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula
...the latest incarnation of various Qaeda and Qaeda-allied groups, including the now-defunct Aden-Abyan Islamic Army that boomed the USS Cole in 2000...
(AQAP) has denied responsibility
Nope. Nope. Wudn't us.
for the killings which took place in mid-April.

They were instead claimed by the "Shabwa Province" militia that has declared itself as a division of IS, a Sunni Lion of Islam group that has overrun swathes of Iraq and Syria.

Shabwa was the scene of fierce fighting Thursday between loyalists of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi and Huthi Iranian catspaws, who have captured the capital Sanaa and advanced on his southern stronghold of Aden.

[ArabNews] Three Saudi troops and "dozens" of Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels were killed as Saudi ground forces repelled a major attack from inside Yemen, officials said.

A statement by the SPA said the attack on "border posts and control points" Thursday night took place on its southern border near the town of Najran. Saudi ground troops exchanged fire with Iran-backed Houthi Iranian catspaws and called in Arclight airstrikes, said the SPA. "Dozens of the Lions of Islam were killed. Three soldiers of the ground troops were martyred," according to the statement.

The attack was the first major incursion into the Kingdom by the Houthis since the Saudi-led coalition began carrying out Arclight airstrikes inside Yemen

Saudi warplanes targeted residential areas in the Yemeni capital city of Sana'a on early Friday, leaving dozens of civilians dead and injured, a medical source said.

Yemen's Health Ministry said on Friday that the Saudi fighter jets continued their strikes in the 37th day of their aggression against Yemen and hit Sawan district in Sana'a, FNA reported.

Saudi fighter jets launched several rounds of strikes against the Southern Yemeni city of Aden on early Friday and killed more than 14 civilians.

The Saudi bombers pounded two hotels in khorMaksar district in the seaport city of Aden and killed at least 14 people, including 9 women and 2 children.

The Saudi aerial aggression also targeted a bank in Hijja province, wounding 6 civilians.

Women wage war on Islamic State
[Jerusalem Post] Reuters photographer Asmaa Waguih spent time with the women who have taken up arms.

Women fighters at a Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militant base on Mount Sinjar in northwest Iraq, just like their male counterparts, have to be ready for action at any time. Smoke from the front line, marking their battle against Islamic State, which launched an assault on northern Iraq last summer, is visible from the base.

ISIS militants execute 600 Yezidis northern Iraq
Erbil, Kurdistan Region – On Friday the so-called Sharia Court of the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) reportedly executed 600 hostages from the Yezidi community of Shingal (Sinjar) in the Talafar district in northern Iraq.

The group piled the bodies into the well of Alo Antar on al-Ayyadiya highway, local sources reported.

Shahin Shingali, a fighter in the ranks of the Peshmerga forces, stated to ARA News that since Friday the IS radicals transferred nearly 700 Yezidi hostages to Talafar.

“Without a direct intervention by the international community, Iraq will be witnessing more genocides against innocent people at the hands of the IS terrorists,” Shingali said.

Aseel al-Nujaifi, governor of Nineveh province in Iraq, confirmed on Friday that the IS terrorists executed hundreds of Yezidi captives.

“A new crime was committed by Daesh (Islamic State) against our Yezidi people on Friday,” al-Nujaifi said in a statement.

The CIA Built a Special Helicopter to Sneak Into North Vietnam
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency still leads various--and sometimes outlandish--military projects. In 2011, the public managed to get a brief glimpse of the next generation of these stealthy choppers.

During the mission that led to the death of Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan, a super-secret chopper crashed at the Al Qaeda leader's compound.

This aircraft--nicknamed a "Stealth Hawk" as it appeared to be a modified UH-60 Black Hawk--probably isn't the only one of its kind in Washington's arsenal.

Clash with NPA in Surigao del Sur
[GMA News] A pursuit operation against New People's Army militants who ambushed jail personnel led to a clash in Surigao del Sur.

The Philippine Army's 4th Infantry Division said the encounter happened in Marihatag town early Thursday morning. Security forces were conducting the pursuit when they were fired upon by around nine suspected NPA militants from the Guerilla Front Committee 19B of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee.

The clash lasted for 15 minutes and the NPA members were "forced to leave the area," leaving behind one AK-47 with ammunition, materials to make an improvised explosive device, "subversive documents, and personal belongings."

The encounter happened during a joint pursuit operation over an ambush on Monday, when suspected NPA militants rescued two of its detained members. Two jail guards were killed, while three others were reportedly seized as well.

In the meantime, the Media Office of the al-Baath Brigades in Hasakah announced that the Syrian air force shelled several IS strongholds in the city of Shaddadi (50 km south of Hasakah), including the headquarters of the Kazakh battalion in the area of Masakin 200 and an IS checkpoint installed west of the city.

On the other hand, pro-IS sources in Shaddadi reported that the air strikes on the city claimed the life of one civilian and injuries to three others.
