Arabia
Oman Begins Trial Of Islamic Insurgents
Oman has launched the trial of prominent Islamic activists said to have formed an anti-regime network. The trial of 10 Omanis arrested in January 2005 began in Muscat. A witness said the defendants were charged with belonging to an illegal organization that sought to overthrow the regime by force. Monday's appearance constituted an initial hearing for the defendants. Authorities did not permit foreign reporters or Western diplomats to attend. Each defendant was allowed to choose one relative to attend the hearing. Some of those arrested were senior officials in the state Islamic system. They included Saleh Al Ribkhi, the controller of mosques in the office of Sultan Qaboos. Another detainee was Kahlan Al Kharisi, who has led Oman's annual delegation to the Muslim pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
Devout, misguided youths, both of them...

There is no such thing as an Islamic Insurgent.
It's a mythical personage.

Shoe-Bomb Conspirator Gets 13 Years
A British judge sentenced a Muslim scholar to 13 years in prison Friday after he admitted conspiring with shoebomber Richard Reid to blow up a trans-Atlantic jetliner in 2001. Judge Adrian Fulford said he believed that Saajid Badat backed out of an alleged plot with Reid, who was subdued by passengers when he attempted to detonate a bomb in his shoe aboard an American Airlines flight from Paris to Miami on Dec. 22, 2001, with 197 people on board.

Organizer of attack on Grozny OMON base killed
Chechen police have killed the so-called amir (war baron) of Grozny in the course of a security sweep. The man presumably headed an attack on the base of Chechen OMON riot police on April 20. "Investigating into the militants' attack, officers of the Chechen Interior Ministry discovered a band headed by a new amir of Grozny codenamed Dzhanak," press secretary of the Chechen Interior Ministry Ruslan Atsayev told Tass on Friday. Dzhanak was killed in a security sweep in the Staropromyslovski district of the Chechen capital, his accomplices are being searched for. Atsayev said Dzhanak had masterminded and personally took part in the attack on the base of the Chechen OMON police in Grozny and mining a Niva car exploded at the base later on. One policeman and one OMON officer were wounded in the attack.

Village emir killed
A joint squad of the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Chechen Interior Ministry killed a guerilla leader who was planning a series of terrorist attacks during the May 9 celebrations on Victory Day, spokesman for the federal forces in the North Caucasus Maj. Gen. Ilya Shabalkin told Interfax on Friday.

"The so-called emir of Chervlyonnaya and Shelkovskaya villages, Suleyman Dakayev, has been killed," Shabalkin said.

"It is known for sure that Dakayev received $60,000 from Maskhadov's successor, Saidulayev, for organizing terrorist attacks in Grozny," he said.

Caucasus Corpse Count
A gunfight between police and two assailants who stopped a patrol car on the outskirts of the Chechen capital left two people dead, the Chechen Interior Ministry said Friday.

One assailant and one person in the police car - a relative of one of the officers - were killed in the shootout Thursday in the Raduzhnoye district on the edge of Grozny, the ministry said.

Another passenger in the car was wounded. The second gunman escaped.

Elsewhere in Chechnya, two Russian servicemen were wounded when the military truck they were riding in hit a land mine Thursday, said Maj. Gen. Ilya Shabalkin, chief spokesman for the federal forces in the North Caucasus region. The explosion occurred near Dzhalka, in the northern Gudermes region.

Chechen First Deputy Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov said Friday that the hunt for Chechen rebel leader Shamil Basayev was moving ahead and that he had no intention of asking his security forces to arrest the warlord.

"He will live until the minute I find him. He is my personal enemy, and I'm not going to risk my men's lives instructing them to catch him alive," the Interfax news agency quoted Kadyrov as saying.

China-Japan-Koreas
Drudge: USA Warns N Korea May Be Preparing Nuke Test
The U.S. has quietly warned China that North Korea could be preparing for a nuclear-weapons test and asked the Chinese to urge Pyongyang to desist, according to a U.S. official.
In what the U.S. official characterized as an "emergency demarche," or diplomatic communication, delivered to Beijing Thursday, Washington said that, in light of recent North Korean words and actions, a test could be in the works.
The WALL STREET JOURNAL reported Friday evening: The demarche also says that the U.S. believes the North Korean nuclear program is advanced enough that a test could come with little or no warning.
Another official said the U.S. test fears also were being conveyed to South Korea and Japan, in addition to Beijing. Christopher Hill, the U.S. assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, is scheduled to visit all three countries next week.
In addition, the U.S. official said that spy satellites have observed heightened activity at missile sites as well as "at various suspect sites" in North Korea where it is believed underground tests could be carried out. But the official acknowledged that it is difficult to divine the true intent of that activity.
That has a real "ultimatum" sound to it.

#1  I might suggest that we have given "fair warning" to China, Japan, Russia, Skor, and probably Nkor that a nuclear detonation of any kind would result in an "immediate" response by the US. In other words, by conducting a nuclear test, Nkor will be declaring war. The clock is now ticking. We have told China that it has "until the nuclear test" to get Nkor to stop. We have probably suggested that, if necessary, China invade Nkor and regime change, which would not be seen as a hostile act or threatening to Skor, and that no Skor or US forces would open fire on Chinese forces north of the DMZ, using only defensive fires to neutralize the massed artillery facing Seoul.

#4  Chinese hardliners may WANT a nuclear NK. A nuclear NK is the one thing that would make Japan literally "go nuclear." Then the chinese hardliners would have their classic "external threat" to rally the great unwashed.

China needs room to grow. And China's hardliners may be playing 3D Vulcan chess to achieve it.

#7  The Chicoms control NK's nukes and Armed Forces - the only reason for the Norkies to use their nukes will be to PC wipe out the starving NK civilians ole' Kimmie and Communism can't afford to feed anyways. In any case, once China commits its conventional forces to war I doubt it will stop at only North Korea a long protractive conventional war, or even a LIMITED NUKE WAR, helps the Commie Clintons and their cabal militarize and Socialize America ala Martial Law, war mobilization, .....etc. Remember, CLINTONISM > "FASCISM" = DE-REGULATED/COMPETITIVE COMMUNISM-SOCIALISM; "WAR" > STILL ECONOMICS AND POLITICS BY OTHER MEANS! Singapore busts JI thug
Singapore said on Friday it had arrested a man linked to Osama Bin Laden's al Qaeda network who had planned attacks in the city-state and had studied bomb making in the Philippines.

Jahpar bin Osman trained in the southern Philippines, where Islamic rebels are pushing for an independent state, and had been negotiating with a regional al Qaeda ally, Jemaah Islamiah, on targets to be attacked, the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement.

Singapore, a staunch U.S. ally that foiled plots in 2001 and 2002 to bomb Western targets in the city-state, also said it had released another militant after he "responded positively to religious counselling".

The government said 35-year-old Jahpar, detained under Singapore's Internal Security Act for two years after his arrest on Thursday, had been a member of Jemaah Islamiah since the mid-1990s.

Singapore has said the earlier Jemaah Islamiah plots, including plans to attack an American school, embassies and U.S. and Israeli companies, were designed to provoke war between Malaysia and Singapore.

Singapore authorities said they had released on April 15 Abdul Majid, a 42-year-old Singaporean man of Pakistani origin who had joined Jemaah Islamiah in 1989 and taught a militant brand of Islam to recruit new members. The government said Majid would not be allowed to leave Singapore without permission for two years or meet former militants.

2 senior al-Qaeda leaders may be trying to enter the Philippines
Just taking a look at the latest crop of storm troopers, dumb muscle, and cannon fodder or something nastier?
Immigration officials in major airports and subports nationwide were placed on alert after the Bureau of Immigration received an intelligence report that two Egyptian members of al-Qaeda have arrived to sow terror in the country.

Immigration Commissioner Alipio Fernandez Jr. ordered two weeks ago that Muhsin Musa Mutawalli Atwah, a.k.a. Abd Al-Rahman Al-Muhajir, and Muhammad Rabia Abd Al-Halim Shuwayb, a.k.a. Hamza Al-Rabi, be included on the watch-list of foreign terrorists.

Their inclusion was requested by the intelligence community, which wanted the duo arrested and taken into custody should they enter the country. "Placing foreigners deemed as threats to national security on our watch list is a standard operating procedure of our campaign against terrorism," said the lawyer Faisal Hussin, the bureau's intelligence chief. Hussin said the two Egyptians were the latest among thousands of foreigners placed in the bureau's watch-list.

Intelligence sources identified Muhajir as a former bodyguard of Osama bin Laden, leader of the international terror group al-Qaeda. Muhajir serves as a senior explosives expert of al-Qaeda and allegedly serves as consultant on almost every bombing attack blamed on the terror group. Muhajir's association with bin Laden reportedly dates back to the mid-1990s when latter lived in Sudan. He is said to have trained the militia that fought and attacked American peacekeepers in Somalia in 1993 and allegedly made the car bombs that went off at the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam in August 1998.

Al-Rabi, on the other hand, was identified as a former member of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad and currently a member of al-Qaeda's military committee as the organization's deputy chief for external operations. As the successor to Khalid Shaihk Muhammad who was captured in Pakistan in early 2003, Al-Rabi is allegedly involved in establishing al-Qaeda cells in many countries and supervised the training of the group's operatives including those behind last year's bombings in Uzbekistan.

Students rescued, cop killed
A POLICEMAN was killed as government forces yesterday rescued 14 schoolgirls and two men abducted by gunmen in the southern Philippines.

The military said a firefight broke out near the town of Piagapo on Mindanao island around 2pm Melbourne time after they caught up with the 10-member gang.

"We recovered all the victims safely," said Brig-Gen Ben Dolorfino.

He said the kidnappers withdrew after losing control of the teenage schoolgirls, who told their rescuers the kidnappers were armed with handguns and assault rifles.

No group has claimed responsibility, but the area is a hotbed of Muslim separatists waging a decades-old rebellion.

The gunmen took the mini-bus near the town of Saguiaran earlier in the day, abducting 22 students and two staff members of staff from a high school attached to Mindanao State University.

The students were marched off at gunpoint toward a mountainous area north of Lanao lake. The gunmen freed six of the girls along the way, Brig-Gen Dolorfino said.

Some of the six suffered blisters on their feet from their long march, but were otherwise unharmed, he said.

When police and military caught up with the gang, they were still holding 14 girls and two men.

"Initial reports are that this is a bandit group out to make a fast buck," Brig-Gen Dolorfino said.

College students kidnapped in the Philippines
Armed men have abducted 19 people, most of them university students, in the troubled southern Philippine island of Mindanao.

Local anti-terrorism task force chief Brigadier General Ben Dolorfino says the suspects boarded a mini-bus carrying the students and later commandeered it near the town of Piagapo.

Twenty-two passengers were initially taken, but three were later let go.

No one has claimed responsibility for the abduction, but the area is a hotbed of Muslim separatists waging a decades-old rebellion in the south.

"Initial reports are that this is a bandit group out to make a fast buck," Brigadier General Dolorfino said.

He says three other students, two of them Muslims, who were freed by the gunmen told police that the suspects were armed with pistols and M-16 assault rifles.

"Immediately after we received the information, we sent our troops to pursue the kidnappers and we initially recovered three victims," Brigadier General Amando Melo, commander of the 1st Marine Brigade operating in the area, said.

"We are still investigating the case to determine the perpetrators of the incident. No ransom was relayed yet. Our pursuit operations continue."

Bangladesh violated Indian airspace: BSF
India on Saturday accused Bangladesh of violating the country's airspace, besides reinforcing troops, building trenches and stockpiling heavy weapons along the international border.
What is it with Muslims challenging Hindus? Everytime they've tried it the last fifty years they've got their butts kicked. Are they learning disabled?
A BSF statement said a Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) helicopter entered the Indian airspace along the northeastern state of Tripura on Friday. "BDR violated the Indian airspace with their helicopter seen flying over Chotakhil in Sabroom subdivision of Tripura as also in Magrum and Beltoli areas along the international border," the statement said.

The allegations came as border tensions between the two neighbouring countries along the state of Tripura have peaked in recent days with BDR soldiers killing a senior BSF commander in a heavy exchange of gunfire last week. India has lodged a strong protest with Dhaka and cautioned its troops not to indulge in "adventurism".

Dhaka has ordered a probe into the incident. On Thursday, Bangladesh too charged the BSF of violating their airspace during a flag meeting between commanders of the two countries. "The BDR commander said a BSF helicopter entered their airspace April 18. But the allegation was totally false and baseless," the BSF statement said.
"Lies! All lies!"
It said Bangladeshi troops were piling up weapons and building trenches, besides amassing additional soldiers on their side of the border. "They (BDR) are trying to create fresh tension by reinforcement of troops and by providing heavier weapons like 51 MM mortars."

The BSF said Bangladesh was carrying out a "misinformation campaign" among the border villagers by spreading news that India was planning an attack. "BSF has been watching the highly suspicious movement of BDR soldiers across the border," the statement said.

India and Bangladesh share a 4,095-km border, of which 856 km falls in Tripura. A vast stretch of the border remains unfenced with concrete pillars dividing the two countries.

On Thursday night, the BSF shot at and injured two Bangladeshi nationals while they were allegedly attempting to breach a barbed border fencing to illegally enter India. BSF officials said there were at least five separate incidents of "unwarranted firing" by the BDR soldiers on civilians and security personnel along the border in Tripura since March.
Unless I've really miscalculated something, the 'Deshis wouldn't last 72 hr in a pitched battle with the Indians.

Nope, it's that Cause/Effect(tm) thing that the Mohammadans have so much trouble with. I see it here every day in Iraq. It makes dealing with these people an exercise in patience.

Iraq-Jordan
Hourra!!! "U.S. Detains Six in Iraq Copter Shooting "
BAGHDAD, Iraq - The U.S. military said Saturday it had detained six men suspected of shooting down a Russian-made helicopter carrying 11 civilians — including six Americans — north of Baghdad two days earlier.
Did they shout "allah u akbar" when they were arrested, or did they just s**t themselves like Lions of Islam faced with real soldiers, one wonders?

An Iraqi civilian helped U.S. soldiers in Task Force Baghdad locate the suspects, who were apprehended at two houses Saturday afternoon, the military said in a statement. The military did not identify the suspects or specify where they were captured.

The Mi-8 helicopter was shot down about 12 miles north of Baghdad on Thursday. Two groups claimed responsibility for the attack and released video to back their claims.

The dead included six American bodyguards for U.S. diplomats, three Bulgarian crew members and two security guards from Fiji, officials said.

In one video, insurgents are seen capturing and shooting to death the lone survivor, identified as a Bulgarian pilot.
As Ed pointed yesterday, yes, he was bulgarian; God bless him, and his family.

The Iraqi civilian told soldiers he knew where a blue pickup truck used in the attack was parked and led them to the site, the military said. When the soldiers reached the area, several other local residents confirmed the initial tip and showed them where the suspects lived, the statement said.

Soldiers started to search two houses at 12:30 a.m. (4:30 p.m. EDT Friday). At the first house, three men were captured and bomb-making materials were seized. At the second house, three more suspects were detained, the military said.

All six men were taken into custody for questioning. No further information was released.

The aircraft was owned by Heli Air of Bulgaria and chartered by Toronto-based SkyLink Aviation Inc., according to SkyLink air operations manager Paul Greenaway. He said it was flying to Tikrit from Baghdad's heavily guarded Green Zone, home to Iraq's parliament and many diplomats.

The six Americans were employed by Blackwater Security Consulting — a subsidiary of security contractor Blackwater USA of Moyock, N.C., which had four employees slain and mutilated by insurgents in Fallujah a year ago.

The U.S.-led coalition sent investigators Friday to the scene of the crash.

#6  I was just thinking about how gratifying it must be to participate in an operation like this. It would be especially so if the snatch team were shown the video first; to see the jihadis gloating and capering in their murderous triumph, then have them cowering at your feet a little later.

#7  Dont worry... I'm sure the ACLU and CAIR will rush to their rescue claiming Geneva Convention protection and all that.

Line the f-ers up ans shoot then - from the front with no blindfold so they can see the muzzlefire. That is according to the Geneva Convention!

#9  In one video, insurgents are seen capturing and shooting to death the lone survivor, identified as a Bulgarian pilot. AH yes, CF, the Geneva Convention. If they want GC protection, then they should play by the rules. After all they claimed to be the Islamic Army in Iraq. Otherwise, anymouse's suggestion,#3, seems appropriate.

#10  Remember the last time (Falluja) when Blackwater people were murdered? A short time later, a set-up attack was made by a large number of insurgents on a seemingly helpless band of Blackwater personnel who SLAUGHTERED somewhere between 40-60 of the attackers. Man, if I am going to piss somebody off, it sure as heck isn't going to be Blackwater employees. Or Bulgarians and Romanians, for that matter. Geez, it could get your whole extended family killed.

Jordan puts Zarqawi thugs on trial
State witnesses testified in court Wednesday that alleged terror allies of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi collected data on producing germ weapons, destroying public infrastructure, attacking airports and carrying out assassinations.

Al-Zarqawi, a Jordanian who is al-Qaida's point man in Iraq, and three other fugitives are being tried in absentia in Jordan's military court along with nine men in custody since April last year. All 13 are accused in what Jordanian officials say was a plot to strike the kingdom with chemical and conventional weapons.

The group in question has been identified as Kata'eb al-Tawhid, Arabic for the Battalions of Monotheism, a previously unknown cell said to be linked to al-Qaida.

The Jordanian plot was uncovered and foiled on April 21, 2004. Al-Zarqawi and the other men on trial face charges that include conspiring to commit terrorist attacks, possessing and manufacturing explosive material and affiliation with a banned group.

The hearing is set to continue next Wednesday.

Nuggets from the Urdu Press
Great Game in Balochistan
Writing in Jang Nazeer Naji stated that last in November former US ambassador Robert Oakley went and met Nawab Bugti at Dera Bugti. After that, an organisation supportive of the PML government developed relations with the Baloch nationalists and thereafter a website appeared which was updated from London. What followed was terrorist attacks by BLA which no one owned up. Another Great Game was on in Balochistan and there was only one power which could be involved in it.

Khushi Masih becomes Ghulam Nabi
According to daily Pakistan one 75 year old Christian Khushi Masih used to sit outside a mosque in Pakpattan and listen to the mellifluous voice of the cleric Ghulam Rasul Naqshbandi. So musical was the voice of the cleric that one day Khushi decided to embrace Islam. After he became Muslim his name was changed to Ghulam Nabi and the town was overjoyed. It was not explained what happened to his legal Christian wife.

Stephen Cohen bribed into writing book
Writing in Insaf, Prof Naeem Masud stated that American writer Stephen Cohen had the guts to stand up in Lahore and say that Qazi Hussain Ahmad would not suit Pakistan while a liberal leader would. Stephen Cohen — as apparent from the name "Cohen" — was a Jew who had written on Pakistan army in the past and had been paid by those in control of Pakistan to write his present book The Idea of Pakistan. Had Cohen been familiar with the true spirit of Islam, its jihadi philosophy and its intellectual tradition he would not be a Jew but a Muslim and would have written his book differently. The fact is that Jews killed Hazrat Usman and Hazrat Ali from behind the scenes. They were also behind the dismemberment of Pakistan in 1971. Cohen had spoken against the liberal leader Qazi Hussain Ahmad. He should not be given khuli chchuti to pronounce judgements on our leaders.

Urdu columnists receive big money
Writing in Jang, columnist Abdul Qadir Hassan alias Bhola complained that the rulers of today did not want bad news about them to be published but they wanted the columnists to praise them. These days an event is arranged after which a bevy of columnists writes about it in various ways in the weeks to follow. The columnist serving the ruler as a trend began in the Bhutto era and is now full-fledged. There were malpractices in it too as some columnists received big money from the rulers and were richer than other honest columnists. The newspaper owners didn't mind it as they too could use the 'paid' columnist to get in touch with the rulers.

America Russia India in Balochistan
According to Nawa-e-Waqt, two KGB spies had disclosed that America asked Russia and India to guard its interests in Afghanistan and Balochistan, for which American and Indian spies with resources had entered Balochistan in 2002 and stayed with Nawab Khair Baksh Marri and his son Balach Marri. After that a training camp for terrorists was started in Marri territory of Kohlu. Balach Marri was made the head of the Balochistan Liberation army (BLA) that started its campaign of terrorism in the province. Weapons and explosives were gathered in Kishan Garh a small locality near the Punjab-Sindh border with India. From this Indian locality, the munitions were sent through Punjab and Sindh to Balochistan. In 2002, there were 55 training camps for BLA in Balochistan where 550 terrorists took training. America wanted to control the trade routes of Central Asia and isolate China while India wanted China to stay away from the region.

Hafiz Saeed's advice
Writing in Khabrain, chief of the banned Lashkar-e-Tayba Hafiz Saeed said that his word of advice to President Musharraf was that he should read the Quran and study the hadith carefully and choose his course by avoiding the mistakes of past rulers. Musharraf's responsibilities were heavy and he had to restore Pakistan broken in half. The sacrifices made in Kashmir should not be allowed to go waste. Hindu banya was depriving Pakistan of waters. Friendship with India was going nowhere if not in favour of India.

Mukhtar Mai and Mira
Daily Jang reported two women under attack in Pakistan. Mira the actress was receiving death threats for acting in an Indian movie and kissing a Hindu actor in it. The other was Mukhtrar Mai of South Punjab who was receiving death threats from the men who had raped her in a gang-rape sanctioned by a village panchayat.

Hindu is a snake
Writing in Khabrain Shaukat Hussain Shaukat stated that a Hindu was a snake which became more and more poisonous if you gave it milk out of kindness. The Hindu will never refrain from biting you. He was expressing friendship because he wanted to retain possession of territories he had illegally acquired from Pakistan. A Hindu cared for only women, money and land, but a Muslim cared only for the Hereafter.

Pervez Musharraf and America
Writing in Jang, Asghar Nadeem Syed stated that looking at President Musharraf and his broad chest and his iron fist one presumed that he would be able to prevent the Americans from harming Pakistan or kill him. Bhutto too thought he was powerful but was hanged. When Pervez Musharraf was recently greeted in Multan as the guest of the city of mangoes, he should have remembered that General Zia had died because of a crate of mangoes in his C130 plane.

Allama Muhammad Asad (1900-1992)
Columnist Irshad Haqqani wrote in Jang that Muhammad Asad was an Austrian Jew Leopold Weiss who converted to Islam and became Muhammad Asad in his friendship with the House of Saud. After 1947, Allama Asad began research on Islam in Pakistan then served as Pakistan's deputy permanent representative at the UN under Zafrullah Khan. He was ousted because of Zafrullah Khan's dislike of him. In that Zafrullah was helped by Ahmad Shah Patras Bukhari. Asad lived in Spain and died there in 1992. His work was still lying unpublished with his wife. The column appealed that Pakistan should publish it.

Pak students support homosexuality?
According to Khabrain many people had demanded the resignation of education minister General Javed Qazi for allowing two girls and three boys students of class 9 to go to Canada to participate in a speaking competition in support of homosexuality. Jamaat leader Prof Ghafoor said this offence of the education minister who gave Rs 2 lakh to Canada-bound students came in the wake of Aga Khan Board's distribution of a questionnaire asking school children about their girl friends. Mufti Munib of Moon-Sighting Committee also condemned the participation of Pak students in the debate "if they were not opposing the motion".

#1  Wow! What a roundup! I think the Hindus as snakes is the winner, but there are so many truly paranoid and wanky conspiracies that it's a tough call. Mukhtar Mai and Mira is my second favorite nibble. Kissing and honor gang-rapes are pretty hard to beat. Wow. PakiWakiLand.

#2  Must be culture shock for some Pakistanis in the west.
Not a place i want to live in.
Love reading this stuff, totally bizarre perceptions.
The Balochistan thing, which i do not think is true, touches on the reality of 'the Baloch people', who live in the west of pakistan and the south east of iran, who are a 'people', certainly more than the palestinians are, and who are in semi revolt in pakistan.
In my 'this might be interesting' thought, why not help the Balochs to nationhood, and thus take a good sized bit of both pakistan and iran
for the new country. Pakistan is smaller, weaker, which, for me, is aok, ditto Iran. And if iran doesn't straighten up soon, i'd take off a chunk more and set up Kurdistan, with kurdish iraq as well, a home promised to the kurdish people, 25 million strong, leaving iran a much smaller place.
Oh well, just thoughts.

Car Bomb Kills 8 in Baghdad
A car bomb exploded during Friday prayers at a mosque in Baghdad, killing eight people and wounding 20, police said. The blast came as two militant groups claimed responsibility for shooting down a Russian-made helicopter carrying 11 civilians, and one released a video purportedly showing insurgents shooting the crash's lone survivor. In another development, a third Iraqi militant group threatened to kill three kidnapped Romanian journalists and their Iraqi-American translator unless Romanian troops leave Iraq within four days, Al-Jazeera reported yesterday while airing a video of the captives. The video showed the three Romanians — two men and a woman — sitting cross-legged against a wall with their hands chained. The woman, sitting in the middle and said to be Marie Jeanne Ion, is seen talking but Al-Jazeera did not air the audio.

Elsewhere, one US soldier was killed yesterday by a roadside bomb near the northern city of Tal Afar, the military said. On Thursday, a US Marine died in a nonhostile incident at Camp Delta, near Karmah, west of Baghdad, the military said. It gave no details. The violence was part of a surge of dramatic attacks that have caused heavy casualties in recent weeks, ending a relative lull since Jan. 30 elections.

'Militias Burn Darfur Village as Warning'
Arab militias burned down a village in West Darfur state as a warning to its non-Arab residents not to return to their homes, a man from the village said yesterday. Ibrahim Adam, 23, took a Reuters witness to the freshly burned village, southwest of El-Geneina, the capital of West Darfur state. All the about 200 homes had been razed, with blackened cooking pots and utensils lying around on the charred ground. No one was killed in Monday's attack, Adam said. The village was deserted, because all the residents had fled across the border to Chad after militias attacked about a year ago.

They did not burn the village then, he said, but came back again on Monday to warn those who had returned from Chad to nearby camps that they should not try to go home. "We saw the smoke and went there. We saw the whole village was burned," he said. Adam fled Sereaf last year with his heavily pregnant wife after the Arab militias, known as Janjaweed, first attacked. He returned recently to Sudan and lives in a camp about 12 km away called Masteri.

IOF arrest six Palestinians during incursions into West Bank towns
Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) arrested six Palestinians at dawn today in the West Bank towns of Tulkarem and Jenin, Palestinian sources reported. Local sources in Jenin reported that more than 20 Israeli occupation army vehicles raided the town at dawn today from various directions firing intensively and randomly. The IOF then proceeded to storming Palestinian homes in the eastern suburb and the Jabal Abu Dheir suburb firing sound bombs inside homes. The IOF arrested four Palestinians, three of them were the brothers of martyr Hamza Somoudi and took them to an unknown destination. In the meantime, IOF raided the village of Said north of Tulakarem and stormed Palestinian homes in the village and conducted searches then arrested two men.

Two Aqsa Martyrs Brigades escape assassination with slight wounds
Two activists affiliated with the Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, an armed wing of Fatah, were wounded during a raid of the Balata refugee camp by a large number of Israeli occupation troops who failed to arrest or liquidate the "wanted activists". Local sources reported that about around 30 army jeeps stormed the Balata refugee camp after midnight on Thursday. The occupation forces surrounded a house in the western sector of the camp and a clash with resistance fighters in the house ensued. Local resistance fighters hurried to the scene to break the siege helping the besieged activists escape to a safe place. Palestinian sources said that the occupation forces were aiming to arrest Ahmad Abu Saltah and Ahmad Abu Ras, both of them were slightly injured in the clash and managed, along with Ala Sanaqrah, to withdraw to safety.

On 14th April occupation forces assassinated 22-year-old Ibrahim Samiri, an Aqsa Martyrs Brigades' field commander in the same refugee camp. A spokesman for the Brigades warned that the group will retaliate to this attempt on the lives of its activists adding that his group is no longer bound by the truce.

Aqsa Martyrs Brigades declare responsibility for attack
The Aqsa Martyrs Brigades affiliated with the Fatah movement, declared responsibility for the attack on Thursday afternoon at Nahel Oz which injured 3 Israeli soldiers. Palestinian security sources started an investigation into the explosion which targeted an Israeli occupation army vehicle near the Jewish settlement of Nahal Oz to the east of Gaza City. A statement issued by the PA ministry of interior said that the Palestinian security forces are investigating the incident despite the fact that it took place in an area under Israeli control.
