Maureen Dowd: How the egomaniac in the Oval was ‘exonerated'
[Irish Times] Then it comes to presidential obstruction, at least Watergate started with a crime. A stupid crime, but a crime.

After 675 days, more than 2,800 subpoenas, nearly 500 search warrants, $30 million spent, endless jaw-jaw on cable and countless whiny Trump tweets, we have come down to one fundamental truth.

And it’s the same truth that has been terrorising us all along: Donald Trump’s dirtbag machinations are driven by insane vanity.

The First Narcissist’s all-consuming blend of braggadocio and insecurity has turned Washington and its rickety institutions into a dystopian outpost of his id.

President Trump obstructed on nearly every page of Volume II of the Mueller report, even though Robert Mueller was too lost in legalese to throw the book at him. The report counts as the Worst Exoneration Ever, replete with incrimination.

And Trump’s motivation for trying to subvert justice and turn the White House into a writhing nest of liars? His ego.

He did not want people to think that the Russians were responsible for his election and that he was an illegitimate president.

And why was this the burr under his sociopathic saddle? Obviously, because he thinks he is an illegitimate president. He never expected to win.

The idea that he is in the Oval Office under false pretences plays into his twisted sense of victimhood. The spoiled scion of Fifth Avenue somehow always finds a way to be aggrieved, a victim of the media, the deep state, "dirty cops", note-taking aides and the elites ‐ all out to get him.

#9  turn the White House into a writhing nest of liars

Trump did not turn the White House into a nest of liars. Obama, Clinton and LBJ did it long before Trump was even a Republican.

#10  Maureen Dowd is that skanky self defined sexy important bitch. You know the one, when you were young and dating you saw as pure poison and vowed that if she was the last woman in the world and you were the last man you would prefer that the human race went extinct over even touching her finger. She sort of makes nuclear waste look attractive. Why is she even listened to or remarked upon?

#13  I suspect Mr. Trump did not expect to win against all of those seasoned Republican politicians, but rather wanted to inject his perspective into the conversation, and maybe garner some marketing benefits from the exposure. But clearly by the time he faced Hillary Clinton, he was all in.

As for Ms Dowd, by this point the New York Times may be stuck with a long term contract negotiated during palmier times for both parties.

Bob Woodward: Steele dossier appeared in draft of US intel assessment on Russian meddling
[Washington Examiner] Veteran journalist Bob Woodward said Sunday he recently learned the unverified Trump dossier appeared in an early draft of a U.S. intelligence community assessment on Russian election interference.

During a discussion on "Fox News Sunday," Woodward suggested its inclusion was at the behest of the Central Intelligence Agency, but it was ultimately taken out after being reviewed by intelligence experts.

"What I found out recently, which was really quite surprising, the dossier, which really is got a lot of garbage in it and Mueller found that to be the case, early in building the intelligence community assessment on Russian interference in an early draft, they actually put the dossier on page two in kind of a breakout box," Woodward said in a panel moderated by host Chris Wallace.

"I think it was the CIA pushing this," he added. "Real intelligence experts looked at this and said no, this is not intelligence, this is garbage and they took it out. But in this process the idea that they would include something like that in one of the great stellar intelligence assessments as Mueller also found out is highly questionable. Needs to be investigated."
Emphasis added.

Press Concerned After Trump Enters Room Accompanied By Imperial March
[Babylon Bee] WASHINGTON, D.C.‐Members of the White House Press Corp reported their terrified concern after the White House Band began playing the Imperial March ahead of a Trump press conference Thursday afternoon, sources confirmed.

The solemn march has historically been associated with the rise of the Galactic Empire.

"Well, this can't be a good sign," one posted on Twitter along with the footage of Trump entering the room accompanied by the tune. "Does the White House understand the significance of this song?!?"

White House musicians then transitioned to the Emperor's Theme, Duel of the Fates, and finally lightened things up a bit with a popular, upbeat Cantina song.

The President issued a public update on the progress of the federal government's latest project, a large battle station the approximate size of a small moon. "Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen," he said.

Trump was flanked by scores of Stormtroopers, Imperial guards, and TIE Fighter pilots, sources also confirmed at publishing time.

Abandon ship! Beto's top aides are LEAVING his bumbling campaign already!
[RS] Well, it sure was fun making fun of the Democratic party’s favorite fake Mexican, Beto O’Rourke, but it looks like our time is coming to an end very soon.

Or at least, his aides certainly think so:
Two aides to former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) have reportedly departed his 2020 presidential campaign, an O’Rourke spokesperson told BuzzFeed News on Saturday.

Becky Bond, a top adviser to O’Rourke, and her deputy, Zack Malitz, have both left the campaign. The two worked on O’Rourke’s competitive 2018 Texas Senate bid against Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).

Chris Evans, a spokesman for O’Rourke, said Bond and Malitz were staffers on a "temporary" basis and didn’t respond to questions about the reasons they left the campaign, BuzzFeed News reported.

Bond told BuzzFeed News in a statement that it was "time for us to move on to other challenges."
Other challenges, like a campaign that might have a snowball’s chance in hell of being successful?
"Launching a presidential campaign without a big staff or even a campaign manager was no easy feat and it took everyone pitching in. We’re proud to have been part of the team of deeply dedicated staff and volunteers who nearly pulled off a historic upset in the 2018 Texas Senate race and broke records launching Beto’s campaign for the presidency," Bond added.

Also they saw his support all swing to booty-judge and abandon Señor Pendejo. Pobrecito!!

India-Pakistan
An inhumane justice system
[DAWN] Pakistain’s criminal justice system reeks of dysfunction at every stage.
Yes.
Planted evidence, custodial torture, forced confessions, false testimony, endless adjournments ‐ these are only some of the problems it is riddled with. And yet, or perhaps it is further evidence of its being cruel in the extreme, there are 27 capital crimes on the statute books. Litigants without resources are of course the most affected: they cannot afford to bribe their way out of the legal quagmire, and their fate is often in the hands of overburdened state-appointed counsel. However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
as one can see from the above study, and umpteenth others, trial courts have few qualms about not only convicting the accused on flimsy evidence but also sending them to death row. It is almost as though the state revels in its power to take the life of its citizens. Even a reprieve sometimes comes too late: in 2016, the Supreme Court acquitted two brothers of murder, only for it to be discovered they had been executed the year before. Military courts, set up in the wake of the APS attack ‐ and thankfully not given a second extension ‐ sentenced at least 310 people to death and executed around 60 through an unprecedentedly opaque modus operandi.

True justice is based on a respect for human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
, the acknowledgement that every individual has a legitimate expectation to be judged for his actions fairly and transparently. The socioeconomic status of litigants must not determine their chances of having their liberty, let alone their life, snatched away. Most nations, except for some of the most retrogressive ones, have abolished the death penalty
. We must do the same, and do so without delay. The collective conscience of this nation must refuse to accept any more state-sanctioned murder in its name.
If only that nation had a collective conscience, though some members are keenly aware of the lack.

No, Men Don't Need Cuddle Parties To ‘Fix' Their Masculinity
[The Federalist] Rage against traditional masculinity has been swift and fierce over the past half decade. From the proliferation of privilege theory that casts men as the top perpetrators on the power food chain, to hashtag movements like #MeToo and "the future is female" branding, to claims of toxicity, masculinity has taken quite a beating.

Men’s rights activists and organizations are derided and laughed at, while the women and men who take up the helm are critiqued for what is perceived as their reactionary views. When men jump on board with practices that are traditionally feminine, they are lauded, applauded, and signal boosted. Enter the male-only cuddle party, the men, and the psychologists who love them.

YES, PEOPLE DO NEED TOUCH
Chick flicks, sitcoms, and jokes about post-coital practices would have us believe that cuddling is entirely the purview of women, but we know for sure that human beings need to be touched, meaning men, too. It’s a basic human need. For those in solitary confinement, or the elderly, the hunger is more pronounced, and the lack of touch debilitating. For men without partners, spouses, or sexual contact, a demographic a recent Washington Post article revealed is on the rise, this lack of human contact can contribute to feelings of isolation.

Perhaps that’s why an educator at Pennsylvania’s Lehigh University recently jumped into the fully clothed cuddle pile in support of the local Men’s Therapeutic Cuddle Group in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. Dr. Christopher Liang, who teaches a gender, race, inclusion, and trauma lab at Lehigh, believes that men’s cuddle groups can redefine masculinity. This statement is predicated on the assumption that masculinity itself is problematic, and needs redefinition.

Cuddle parties have been a mainstay of the intimacy industry for years, making waves and rolling eyes from Silicon Valley to Brooklyn. Touted by Cuddle Party as "a playful social event designed for adults to explore communication, boundaries and affection," a cuddle party is decidedly non-sexual, and rooted in the idea that human beings crave to touch and be touched. But is touch so far from the realm of masculinity that for men to engage in it is to redefine the term?

Kate Smith And God Bless America: Political Correctness Is Out Of Control
[Victory Girls] When will people realize that political correctness has gone too far? When will they realize that in an effort to "protect" people from bad things, our entire country is looking and acting a crop of snowflakes who just can’t deal with life and reality. The latest exhibit in this madness is the New York Yankees dumping Kate Smith singing "God Bless America" during 7th inning stretch because suddenly songs she sang way back in the day are racist.

No, I’m not kidding. Kate Smith’s 1939 recording of "God Bless America" has been played for 18 years at Yankee Stadium. For 18 years, not a single person had a problem with who was singing the song. Heck, I’m not even sure they knew WHO was singing it over the loudspeakers!

But now, everyone knows because some triggered social justice snowflake out there decided that Kate’s past history is bad, therefore the song must go!
