Afghanistan
Pentagon awards new contract worth $42.7m for Afghan Air Force training program
[KhaamaPress] The Department of Defense or Pentagon has awarded a new contract worth $42.7 million for the training of Afghan Air Force pilots and maintainers.

"Sierra Nevada Corp., Sparks, Nevada, has been awarded a $42,722,019 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for A-29 training for the Afghanistan Air Force. This contract provides for A-29 pilot and maintenance training," the Department of Defense said in a statement.

The statement further added that work will be performed at Moody Air Base, Georgia and in Afghanistan, and is expected to be completed by Dec. 31, 2023.

This comes as efforts are underway to bolster the capabilities of the Afghan Air Force.

The coalition forces officials in Afghanistan had earlier said that the size of the Afghan Air Force will be tripled by 2023 with the addition of new equipment and aircraft.

IAEA demands safeguards from Saudi Arabia on first nuclear reactor
[IsraelTimes] Request comes amid concern in Washington that Riyadh will divert materials for use in weapons and ongoing controversy over killing of Jamal Khashoggi.

The head UN nuclear inspector said Friday that his agency is asking Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
to agree to safeguards on nuclear material that could arrive by the end of the year for its first atomic reactor.

Europe
Germany brings home 'Islamic State' children from Iraq
[DW] The German Foreign Ministry said Friday it had brought several children of convicted "Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
" (IS) bully boyz back to Germany from Iraq.

The returns were carried out with the consent of the parents, a ministry source said, adding that the number of repatriations so far had "reached a high single-digit figure." The children are staying with their relatives in Germany.

With the collapse of the once expansive IS caliphate, a number of European countries are facing the difficult question of how to deal with returning jihadis and their children.
Repatriating an infection. Awesome
According to German authorities, there are at least eight German nationals enjugged
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
in Iraq for joining IS, with sentences ranging from several years in prison to the death penalty
. Officials say there are also more than 60 suspected IS members from Germany being held by Kurdish forces in northern Syria.

FIRST RETURNEES
Among the first to land in Germany were three children, who arrived with their 31-year-old mother at Stuttgart airport on Thursday, the family's lawyer confirmed. Authorities immediately placed the woman under arrest, the lawyer Mahmut Erdem said in a statement. She reportedly took the children to Syria against the will of their father in 2015, and had been considered a threat by authorities since 2017.

The Interior Ministry estimates around 1,000 people left Germany to join terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq after 2013. About one-third of these individuals have already returned to Germany, and some of them have been prosecuted or placed in rehabilitation programs.

Germany has said it will seek to repatriate German nationals currently being held in the Middle East. The ministry said it was particularly concerned about the children of fighters, describing them as innocent victims in the conflict.

The Bundestag this week approved legislation to strip dual nationals of their German citizenship if they join foreign terrorist militias; however, the law only applies to future cases.

Interior ministers from the Group of Seven countries are expected to discuss the return of imported muscle when they meet in Gay Paree on Friday. La Belle France last month took in five orphans from the Middle East and says it will assess other returns on a case-by-case basis.

Channel Migrant Crossings in Sharp Decline, Says France
[AnNahar] The number of migrants colonists trying to smuggle across the Channel from La Belle France to Britannia by boat has fallen sharply after a spike late last year, authorities in northern La Belle France said late Thursday.

Between January and March this year, 23 vessels carrying about 200 people managed to reach England's shores, down from 39 carrying 286 people between October and December, the head of security for the northern Pas-de-Calais region, Fabien Sudry, told news hounds.

Sudry attributed the decline to tighter patrols along the northern French coast, long a staging post for attempts by mainly Afghan, Iranian, Iraqi and African migrants colonists to reach England.

A helicopter, drones, night vision goggles and motocross bikes that can be ridden across the dunes have all been used to patrol a stretch of coast measuring around 80 kilometres (50 miles), he said, adding that the police also carried out between 8 and 15 patrols on foot each day.

Most attempt to stow away on trucks crossing the Channel through the Eurotunnel in the port of Calais, where a huge migrant camp was demolished in 2016.

But last year, the authorities noted an increase in the numbers braving the world's busiest shipping channel in small dinghies or stolen fishing boats, particularly Iranians and Iraqis.

"Unfortunately there still are some (crossings) but we have noted a sharp decline," Sudry said.

French police intervened 15 times between January and March to prevent groups of migrants colonists putting out to sea, down from 22 times in the last three months of 2018, he said.

Some 500 people attempted to cross the Channel last year, compared with just 13 known attempts in 2017. Around half managed to reach British waters.

The numbers represent a tiny fraction of the numbers crossing the Mediterranean from North Africa.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan says Turkey's election was lesson to the world on democracy
That’s certainly one perspective.
[ALMASDARNEWS] The high turnout for The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
’s municipal elections on Sunday is a lesson in democracy for the whole world, the country’s president, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
stated.

"The municipal elections have been completed... This is a lesson in democracy for the whole world, and attempts by the West to interfere in our internal affairs are unacceptable", Erdogan told journalists.

He also said that the Ottoman Turkish Supreme Electoral Council had yet to complete the legal process for considering complaints or announce the final results.
"When we declare AKP the actual winner,it will be a lesson to the entire world about Turkish Democracy™"
"The People’s Alliance [the political bloc the ruling Justice and Development Party is part of] received 53.3 percent of the vote. It won in 25 of the 39 municipalities of Istanbul. The turnout was 83 percent", the president added.

The statement comes after the ruling party appealed the preliminary results of Istanbul’s mayoral election, which show that the candidate from the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), Ekrem Imamoglu, has won, in the Supreme Electoral Council. The council is now conducting a recount.

According to preliminary data, the ruling party won local elections in 39 provinces. In particular, its candidates won mayoral elections in Bursa, Gaziantep, Trabzon, Samsun and Kayseri. The candidates from the CHP won elections in 21 provinces, including Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya and Adana.

Ottoman Turkish citizens went to the polls on 31 March to vote for new mayors, municipal leaders, heads of villages and members of village councils.

U.S. To Designate Iranian Elite Force As Terrorist Organization
[Jpost] The United States is expected to designate Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards Corps a foreign terrorist organization, three U.S. officials told Rooters, marking the first time Washington has labeled another country's military a terrorist group.

The decision, which critics warn could open U.S. military and intelligence officials to similar actions by unfriendly governments abroad, is expected to be announced by the U.S. State Department, perhaps as early as Monday, the officials said. It has been rumored for years.

The Pentagon declined comment and referred queries to the State Department. The State Department and White House also declined to comment

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israeli Islamic State fighter stripped of citizenship in absentia
[IsraelTimes] Interior minister revokes Abdallah Hajleh’s citizenship at Shin Bet’s recommendation, seeks court order to keep him from entering country.

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri on Friday moved to strip an Israeli man of his citizenship for traveling to Syria to join the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadist group six years ago.

Deri instructed ministry officials to take action in absentia against Abdallah Hajleh at the recommendation of the Shin Bet security service. The revocation must be approved by a special citizenship court.

Deri’s office also asked the Central District Court to bar Hajleh from ever returning to Israel, according to Hebrew reports. It wasn’t clear where Hajleh is, or if Israeli authorities know his location.

According to reports in Hebrew-language media, Hajleh has a citizenship in a second country.

A 2017 amendment to Israel’s nationality act allows those engaged in hostile activity to be stripped of their citizenship in absentia.

The Shin Bet security service has in the past estimated that several dozen Israeli nationals had fought for IS in Iraq and Syria. Most were either killed in action or returned to Israel, where they were jugged
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
After the amendment passed two years ago, Deri said he drew up a list of 20 Israeli IS members whose citizenship he intended to revoke. According to reports at the time, Deri’s list was composed mostly of Arab Israelis and East Jerusalem Paleostinians, but also included two Jewish converts to Islam.

On Friday, Deri said the "facts are clear" in Hajleh’s case. "This person poses a danger to the Israeli public."

"This is a person who is disloyal to Israel, who worked to undermine its existence, and spent years trying to damage its security," he said. "I see no other way besides nullifying his citizenship."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
France won’t repatriate ISIS fighters, families from Syria
[Rudaw] La Belle France will not carry out a general repatriation of its French jihadists and their families detained in Syria as members of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS), though it is considering the cases of children on an individual basis, a minister said on Friday. Both La Belle France and Germany have brought back a handful of children from Iraq and Syria as Kurds push for the international community to take responsibility for its nationals.

"No communal repatriation was under consideration to be carried out," French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said in a presser in Gay Paree on Friday. La Belle France would, however, consider returning children of fighters on an individual basis, he added.

A day earlier, French daily Liberation reported that there had been a government programme to return French jihadists and their families, but that it was scrapped because of public hostility towards the idea.

Liberation reported that La Belle France’s intelligence service had a detailed list ‐ including name, date of birth, place of detention, and time spent in ISIS territory ‐ of some 250 men, women, and children it was prepared to repatriate.

Castaner denied that public opinion was a factor in their decisions on the issue.

Gay Paree has repatriated five orphaned French children who had been living in camps in Kurdish-controlled northern Syria, according to AFP.

On Friday, Germany said they had brought home several children whose parents were tossed in the calaboose
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
in Iraq.

"The number of minors already brought back to Germany has reached a high single-digit figure," a source from the Foreign Ministry told AFP. The children are now living with relatives in Germany.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) captured more than 1,000 foreign ISIS fighters and thousands of their wives and children. Some 9,000 foreigners are being housed in al-Hol camp.

"We can’t put up with this burden alone," Abdulkarim Omar, chair of foreign relations for the northern Syria autonomous region said late last month.

The problem is an international one and is going to need a global solution, according to Brett McGurk, former US envoy to the global coalition against ISIS.

The international community, especially Western governments, is worried about the security concerns of bringing ideologically-driven jihadists home, especially when they may not have the evidence to get convictions in a court of law.

In Syria's Al-Hol camp, ultra-extremists fuel fear

group's territorial "caliphate" may be defeated, but a camp in eastern Syria is emerging as a fresh jihadist powder keg.

Dislodged in a final offensive by a Kurdish-led ground force and coalition air strikes, thousands of wives and children of IS fighters have flooded in from a string of Syrian villages south of the camp in recent months.

Columbia Prof Compares Israel to ISIS
[Free Beacon] In a now-deleted Facebook post Saturday, a Columbia University professor likened Israel to ISIS, but with more mainstream media support.

Hamid Dabashi, the Hagop Kevorkian Professor of Iranian Studies and Comparative Literature at Columbia, shared the post in reaction to the United States recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

According to Fox News, Dabashi went on a bizarrely capitalized rant before removing the post. "What's the difference between ISIS and ISRAEL?" he asked. Neither, he said, has a claim to the Golan Heights. "All of Syria belong to all Syrian people, not an inch it either to ISIS or to ISRAEL." Proof of the post remains available on his Twitter account.
