Immigration agents arrest 280 at Texas tech repair company
[New York Post] DALLAS ‐ Immigration agents have arrested nearly 300 people at a North Texas technology company in what authorities say is one of the largest enforcement actions of its kind in a decade.
No record of CVE corporate officials or hiring officials arrested.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says federal agents arrested 280 workers Wednesday at CVE Technology Group in Allen, a city about 15 miles (24 kilometers) northeast of Dallas.

The federal agency says the technology repair company employees were working in the United States illegally, but did not release details of who was detained.

ICE says it began auditing the employment document of workers at CVE Technology after receiving tips that the business was knowingly hiring people not authorized to work in the country.

CVE employee Yessenia Ponce described the raid as "crazy" to KERA News, and said people were screaming.

Three Store Operators Charged in $6 Million Food Stamp Scam
[LA.com] Three Palmdale women who operated convenience stores in the Antelope Valley were arrested Tuesday on charges stemming from a $6 million food stamp scam, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.

Maria Teresa Ramirez, the 37-year-old owner of stores in Palmdale and the unincorporated community of Littlerock, is charged with eight counts of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) fraud.

Her 54-year-old mother, Maria Magdalena Salgado, is facing seven counts of SNAP fraud involving a convenience store she owned in Palmdale, while Yessica Raquel Garay, 37, is facing two counts. Authorities say Garay worked for Ramirez at her Palmdale store before taking over the business.

The three are also charged with one count each of conspiracy to defraud another of property and misappropriation of public funds, along with allegations of taking more than $500,000 through fraud and embezzlement.

Ramirez, Salgado and Garay are accused of illegally exchanging SNAP benefits ‐ commonly known as food stamps ‐ for cash, according to Deputy District Attorney Michael Fern. They allegedly charged fictitious SNAP-eligible purchases to the benefit cards and collected fees for the transactions.

Fourteen other people have been charged for allegedly using their SNAP cards to get cash at the stores.

2 Men Arrested After Shooting Each Other While Wearing Vest
[USNEWS] TWO Arkansas men have
You know it's gonna be a good story when it starts like that...
been arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault after police say they shot each other while taking turns wearing a bulletproof vest.
"It'sh my turn widda vesht!"
"No it ain't it'sh my turn!"
"I'll shoot youse!"
"Go ahead! I got da vesht!"

The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that 50-year-old Charles Ferris and 36-year-old Christopher Hicks were arrested Monday.
"Stick 'em up!"
"Shay! Whuddish dis? A holdup?"
"Yer under arrest!"
"Fer whut?"

A police affidavit says the two men are neighbors and were drinking on a deck Sunday
"[Hic!] Pash me anudder beer, Charlie, old chum!"
when Ferris told Hicks to shoot him with a .22-caliber rifle while Ferris wore the vest.
"Yeah! Go ahead, Chrishtopple... Chrishtomater... Chrish! Give it a shot!"
The affidavit says the shot left a red mark on Ferris' chest and that he was angry because it hurt.
"Shay! Dat hurt! It ain't supposed to do dat!"
The affidavit says Hicks then put on the vest and Ferris "unloaded the clip" into his back, causing bruises but no serious injuries.
"Ow! Ow! Ow! Dat does hurt!"
Court records don't list an attorney who could speak on behalf of either man.
"Yer honor, my clients plead not guilty on grounds of stupidity!"

Local television station 5News has more here, and the Daily Mail has photos of the idiots.

Charges dropped in 2015 Waco Texas biker brawl that left nine dead
These things happen. It's time to move on.
[BBC] Not a single person charged for their suspected roles in a fatal shootout at a Texas biker bar in 2015 has been convicted, a prosecutor says.

The newly elected district attorney in Waco said he is dropping all remaining charges against the bikers involved.

The brawl resulted in nine deaths, 20 serious injuries and 177 arrests.

McLennan District Attorney Barry Johnson blamed his predecessor for not properly prosecuting all those charged in the fracas.

Nearly every person at the Twin Peaks restaurant was arrested and initially accused of engaging in organised crime following the shoot-out between the Cossacks and Bandidos gangs on 17 May 2015.

Mr Johnson said in a statement on Tuesday that former District Attorney Abel Reyna should never have issued such a blanket arrest warrant, and should have issued more specific arrest warrants based on the evidence against each individual.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
On this day in 1841: President Harrison dies after one month in office
[History Channel] Only 31 days after assuming office, William Henry Harrison, the ninth president of the United States, dies at the White House. The cause of death was officially reported as pneumonia.

Born in Charles County, Virginia, in 1773, Harrison served in the U.S. Army in the old Northwest Territory and in 1800 was made governor of the Indian Territory, where he proved an able administrator. In 1811, he led U.S. forces against an Indian confederation organized by Shawnee Chief Tecumseh, and victory at the Battle of Tippecanoe brought an end to Tecumseh’s hopes for a united Indian front against U.S. expansion. In the War of 1812, Harrison gained his greatest fame as a military commander, recapturing Detroit from the British and defeating a combined force of British and Native Americans at the Battle of the Thames.

This is just one engine on a quasi-second stage. Initial rockets will have 31 of these on the first stage and maybe 8 on the 2nd stage. For Mars first stage will likely have 41 or so engines. Both of these cameras were on the tip of South Padre Island looking south toward Boca-Chica and the mouth of the Rio Grande river. It should be panic time for the SLS (Senate Launch System) rocket made in all 50 states — it's just missed more deadlines and Musk is on his way to a rocket to carry 100 people to Mars or launch 600-900 of his network sats at a time.

Germany’s Military To Have Jewish Chaplains For First Time In A Century
[Jpost] A treaty on the military chaplaincy will be negotiated between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Central Council of Jews, as it was for Protestants and Catholics decades ago.

Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen announced this week that her ministry will appoint Jewish chaplains to the Bundeswehr based on recommendations from the Central Council of Jews in Germany, the umbrella organization that represents the approximately 100,000 members of Jewish communities nationwide.

According to the Central Council, the future German military rabbi or rabbis will work both in a pastoral capacity, and in instructing soldiers of all religious backgrounds, "enriching their ethical education ... with a Jewish contribution."

German soldiers are not required to identify their religion; the Defense Ministry estimates that about half have done so. According to the ministry, there are approximately 300 Jewish enlistees in addition to about 3,000 Moslems, 41,000 Catholics and 53,000 Protestants. Christian military chaplains were introduced to the Bundeswehr about 60 years ago.

There reportedly also will soon be imams appointed as military chaplains, although there will be no treaty with the Federal Republic of Germany, since instead of having a single representative body for Moslems in Germany, there are several.

Canada Melting Twice as Fast as Anywhere
[BBC - where Canada Gets its News] Hat Tip: Amazon's Alexa device.
Canada is warming on average at a rate twice as fast as the rest of the world, a new scientific report indicates. The federal government climate report also warns that changes are already evident in many parts of the country and are projected to intensify.

Canada's Arctic has seen the deepest impact and will continue to warm at more than double the global rate.
"It's because Justin 'Fidel's Kid' Trudeau is sooo hot"
The report suggests that many of the effects already seen are probably irreversible.

Canada's annual average temperature has warmed by an estimated 1.7C (3F) since 1948, when nationwide temperatures were first recorded.
Oh my heavens! The worst in 70 years! How about in the last ten years? Or the last ten thousand years?

The largest temperature increases have been seen in the North, the Prairies, and in northern British Columbia.
Wow. Does the data break down into voting precincts?

Annual average temperature in northern Canada increased by approximately 2.3C.

"While both human activities and natural variations in the climate have contributed to the observed warming in Canada, the human factor is dominant," the report states.

"It is likely that more than half of the observed warming in Canada is due to the influence of human activities."
At least enough to have an excuse to raise taxes.

The report came as the government imposed carbon taxes on four of Canada's 10 provinces for failing to introduce their own plans for tackling climate change.

University campus suspends all fraternity, sorority social activities
[MSN] The University of Texas at Arlington has suspended all social activities of Greek organizations due to "concerns regarding the culture of the fraternal community," the school said Wednesday.

The university, which has about 28,000 undergraduates among its more than 40,000 students, began the suspension of social activities of fraternities and sororities Monday so that it can study their communities' culture, the university's chief spokesperson said in a statement.

"During this pause, the University will assemble a campus Fraternity and Sorority Life Task Force to review the state of affairs within the fraternity and sorority community and to recommend steps to effect a positive shift in the community culture," the statement said.
Guilty of all the bad things unless proven innocent after being thoroughly studied. May I suggest an anti-discrimination lawsuit is called for?

#4  Oh, come now! It's not that bad!

Greek organizations will still be able to participate in certain events, such as community service projects and chapter meetings.

And the reason why?

The suspension was not based on a singular event but was sparked by concerns about fraternal culture both on the campus and nationally.

So as soon as the national culture improves, sufficiently, these local organizations can resume (most of) their full range of activities.

Rutgers Professor Brittany Cooper: Concept of ‘Time’ Is Racist
[BREITBART] A professor at Rutgers University who previously argued that Jesus was “queer” stated on NPR last week that the concept of time is owned by white people. Rutgers University Professor Brittany Cooper is back with another hot take. This time, she’s arguing that the modern conceptualization of time is racist.

According to a report from The College Fix, Cooper, who once argued that Jesus was “queer,” spoke with NPR last week about how white people “own time.” In the interview, Cooper made the case that white Americans have solely been responsible for conceptualizing the notion of “time.”

“If time had a race, it would be white,” Cooper said. “White people own time.”

After the NPR host asked her to explain that statement, Cooper offered a vague answer. She argued that Europeans developed the modern attitude about time which is characterized by the amount of time that is spent in leisure.

Yes. So when I say time has a race, I’m saying that the way that we position ourselves in relationship to time comes out of histories of European and Western thought. And a lot of the way that we talk about time really finds its roots in the Industrial Revolution. So prior to that, we would talk about time as merely passing the time. After the Industrial Revolution, suddenly, we begin to talk about time as spending time. It becomes something that is tethered to monetary value. So when we think about hourly wage, we now talk about time in terms of wasting time or spending time. And that’s a really different understanding of time than, you know, like seasonal time or time that is sort of merely passing.

Cooper went on to argue that white people “own” time in a second way. According to Cooper, European philosophers have refused to recognize African history as part of the global historical timeline.

Time has a history, and so do black people. But we treat time as though it is timeless, as though it has always been this way, as though it doesn’t have a political history bound up with the plunder of indigenous lands, the genocide of indigenous people and the stealing of Africans from their homeland. When white, male European philosophers first thought to conceptualize time and history, one famously declared, Africa is no historical part of the world. He was, essentially, saying that Africans were people outside of history who had had no impact on time or the march of progress.
But... but... why would Japanese and Koreans and Russians and such share those concepts? They're probably racists too, right?

Afghanistan
7 wounded as Afghan and Pakistani tribesmen clash along Durand Line
Boys will be boys.
[KhaamaPress] At least seven people were maimed during a clash between the Afghan and Pak rustics along the Line of Durand, it has been reported.

Official sources have confirmed to The News media outlet that the clash took place between rustics of Sulimankhel of Pakisstan and Kharoti tribe of Afghanistan.

The sources further added that the clash took place in Zarmaila area in Toykhula tehsil near Durand Line in South Wazoo district.

The clash reportedly broke out after members of Kharoti tribe took up positions at a hilltop in Zarmailan area and started firing at the local population on the Pak side.

In retaliation, a lashkar of Sulimankhel tribe attacked and repulsed them, the reports said, claiming that the Kharoti tribe left behind weapons and ammunition and retreated.

The district administration also confirmed the incident and said that a team had been sent to the area to take stock of the situation as it was a far-flung area, The News reported.

American kidnapped on Ugandan safari, $500,000 ransom demanded
KAMPALA (Reuters) - An American woman and her driver have been kidnapped at Uganda’s most popular wildlife park by gunmen demanding a ransom of $500,000, police said on Wednesday.

Kimberley Sue Endecott, 35, and Ugandan driver Jean Paul were on a game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park when four gunmen ambushed their vehicle on Tuesday evening, a police statement said.

Various illegal groups from Somali Islamists to Congolese-based rebels sometimes operate in Uganda, but the kidnappers’ identity was not known.

An elderly couple also at the scene were not taken and raised the alarm.

"I suspect the kidnappers left them because they were elderly. They took all their possessions," said Ugandan government spokesman Ofwono Opondo.

Califonia-based Endecott and the couple, whose relationship was unclear, entered Uganda on March 29 and flew the next day to the park in the country’s southwest, the spokesman added.

Britain
Semi-naked climate change protesters cause a stir in Brexit debate
[Irish Times] A group of semi-naked climate change protesters created a stir in Britain’s parliament on Monday, pressing their bottoms against a glass panel overlooking the chamber where MPs struggled to concentrate on a Brexit debate.

As MPs started yet another day of lengthy debate on how or even whether the country should leave the European Union, 12 protesters stripped to their underpants to show slogans painted on their backs, including: "Climate justice now."

Several MPs could not stop themselves from looking up towards the public gallery, some giggling as Labour MP Peter Kyle tried to defend his bid for force the government to stage a confirmatory vote on its Brexit deal by pointing out what he called the "naked truth".

Iraq
Hundreds of Iraqi families displaced by flooding: UN
[Rudaw] Floods in Iraq have forced hundreds families out of their homes and swept away bridges, with Saladin, Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
and Sulaimani provinces the worst affected. Across the border in Iran where almost 60 people have died because of the severe weather, but no fatalities have been reported in Iraq.

In Saladin province, 1,173 families were displaced by flooding as of Tuesday, the United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
humanitarian office (OCHA) in Iraq said in a statement on Wednesday. Villages along the Tigris River between Baiji and Samarra were the areas of critical concern. OCHA, in coordination with the Iraqi government, is planning aid for 12,000 families in the province.

"Local authorities in Saladin compelled a number of residents from 100 families in villages to evacuate," the Iraqi Red Islamic Thingy Society confirmed.

OCHA said they also need to prepare a contingency plan in case of cholera.

In Kirkuk, 60 families were displaced from their homes in the Hawija area where the Zab River has flooded, according to OCHA.

In Sulaimani, landslides have damaged bridges and roads.

Provinces downstream have also been affected.

A bridge in Maysan province collapsed on Tuesday. "The Tayib bridge collapsed due to incoming flood waters from Iran," Jawad al-Saadi, deputy head of Maysan Provincial Council, told Rudaw.

The bridge was built by locals using "primitive means" and was not structurally sound, he added.

"Rain floods don’t constitute any dangers as of now," he said.

Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi on Tuesday said his government is managing the problem ‐ storing and draining the water ‐ and reassured the public that the situation is under control, praising the response of his ministries and provincial governments. He also claimed the extent of the flooding and damage has been exaggerated.

Those living in the path of the flood waters, however, accused the government of abandoning them.

"It is the third day. The state has not come to our aid or anything... The state doesn't care about us. Aren't we Iraqis? Why doesn't it come to our aid? Where do we go? Should we go outside Iraq? Then make us passports!" said a farmer in Saladin.

In djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, which is still grieving after 100 people died when a ferry capsized in the fast-flowing Tigris on Newroz, authorities closed five main bridges but have issued reassurances that Mosul Dam is safe, OCHA stated.

Kurdistan Region’s Dukan Lake, for the first time since 1988, reached the dam’s bell mouth spillway on Tuesday afternoon. Rivan Burhan, an engineer at the dam, told Rudaw they have increased the amount of water they are releasing to 350 cubic metres per second as a precaution. The water level will not cause a "great danger," he said.

Wednesday saw more heavy rain and more is forecast for Friday.

[FoxNews] Second infant dies in Italy after at-home circumcision
It is not infant male circumcision that is the problem, but doing it in an unhygienic manner by untrained persons.
Another infant has died in Italy after an at-home circumcision, marking the second such death in as many months.

Italian news agency ANSA did not reveal the boy’s age or name, but said that the child died overnight at a location near Genoa after his mother, identified as a Nigerian woman, and his grandmother called for help.

When paramedics arrived, the child was already dead, ANSA reported.

According to the report, the child's mother and grandmother were arrested and taken to police headquarters for questioning, along with a man who authorities say carried out the botched procedure. The boy’s father is reportedly believed to be out of the country.

The first death involved a 5-month-old baby boy who arrived at a hospital in Bologna two weeks ago by helicopter. According to reports at the time, the child was already in cardiac arrest and dies within hours of his arrival.

Home circumcision remains a trend among immigrants in Italy, but is not practiced among the country’s Roman Catholic majority. Seeking the procedure at a hospital in Italy remains costly, and some doctors will not perform a circumcision until a child reaches age 4.
