[Khaama] An explosion has targeted a van in the western Herat province on Saturday, January 22, 2022, that killed six people and wounded nine more.

The explosion has taken place in Police District 12 of the provincial province.

Local health officials said among the dead bodies are four women and two men while among the wounded are five women and four children.

#1  They'll never stop slaughtering one another. Like everything else this administration touches, the circumstances surrounding the pull-out were an absolute disaster. Being gone from there is a good thing however.

Perhaps we have learned something from these foreign misadventures.

#2  Hey, at least this time we know it wasn't a drone strike!

Probably. I mean, the CIA is probably still there killing people. But most likely, the US had nothing to do with this. And that's a good step in the right direction.

Ex-governor turned candidate running for parliamentary seat killed in Somalia
[Garowe] A former governor was on Saturday night assassinated by al-Shabaab
...... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all of which have enough problems without them...
turbans in the latest wave of killings by the Death Eater group, which has been targeting innocent civilians, security forces, and government officials.

Abdirahman Ibrahim Maow who served as Hiran region governor went titzup after two button men fired at him just when leaving a nearby Mosque within Wadajir District in the Somali capital Mogadishu.

State media said local officials confirmed the tragic incident which comes just days after the al-Shabaab turbans killed over 10 people in three separate events within Mogadishu in a short period of time.

Abdirahman Ibrahim Maow, besides serving as Hiran region governor, also worked with the Islamic Courts Union from 2006-2007. Critically, in 2009 he joined Hizbul Islam, then led by Hassan Dahir Aweys.

The al-Shabaab turbans did not immediately reveal the reasons behind the shooting but did confirm that they were behind the incident. The al-Shabaab have been targeting senior government officials including those who have since quit the government.

Currently, al-Shabaab controls large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia, but a concerted military effort has significantly weakened the group. al-Shabaab turbans are keen to topple the fragile UN-backed Somalia administration.

Egyptian court sentences Mufti of Al-Qaeda affiliate 'Al-Nusra Front' to life in prison
[AlAhram] A Cairo emergency state security court sentenced on Sunday Madin Ibrahim Hassenein, who is commonly known as "Nusra Front" Mufti, to life in prison for joining al-Qaeda-affiliated "Al-Nusra Front" and "Jund al-Aqsa" movements in Syria and receiving military trainings to carry out terrorist attacks.

The prosecution also accused Hassenein of promoting terrorist crimes indirectly through two WhatsApp applications named "Ifta, Questions and Fatwas" where he spread Takfiri

Coup attempt in Burkina Faso
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin:

[ColonelCassad] In the early hours of Sunday morning, gunfire erupted from several military camps in Burkina Faso, the government said, but denied that the military had taken over. Heavy weapons shelling of the Sangul-Lamizana camp in the capital Ouagadougou, which hosts the army's general headquarters and a prison that houses soldiers involved in the failed 2015 coup attempt, began at least at 5:00 am (midnight ET) , according to a Reuters reporter.

The reporter later saw soldiers firing into the air in the camp. The witness also reported shooting at a military camp in Kaya, about 100 kilometers north of Ouagadougou.

The government of Burkina Faso has confirmed shootings in some military camps, but has denied reports on social media that the army has taken over.

“Information on social networks testifies to the seizure of territory by the army. The government, while confirming the exchange of fire in some barracks, refutes this information and urges the population to remain calm,” government spokesman Alkassum Maigi said in a statement.

Governments in West and Central Africa are on high alert for coups following successful coups over the past 18 months in Mali and Guinea. The military also came to power in Chad last year after President Idriss Déby died on the battlefield.

Earlier this month, Burkinabé authorities arrested a dozen soldiers on suspicion of plotting against the government.

The arrests followed a military leadership reshuffle in December, which some analysts saw as an attempt by President Rocha Kabore to solidify his support for the military.

An increase in violence in the West African country by Islamist militants linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State has killed more than 2,000 people in the past year, sparking violent street protests in November calling for Kabore to step down.

More demonstrations were planned for Saturday, but the government banned them and the police intervened to disperse hundreds of people trying to gather in Ouagadougou.

The government has suspended mobile internet several times, and a tense situation in November led the UN Special Envoy to West Africa to warn against any military coup.

Among the inmates at the Sangoulé Lamizana camp prison is General Gilbert Diendere, who was a major ally of former Burkina Faso President Blaise Compaore. Compaore was overthrown in the 2014 uprising.

Internet outages continue in the country's capital.

Conflicting reports continue to come in about what is happening, from the government's complete control of the situation to the complete success of the military coup. In general, let's wait for the result of the coup.

If the government retains control over the situation, the country will remain in the French sphere of influence for the time being. If it doesn’t, then it cannot be ruled out that the next film from the Tourist franchise will be made about Burkina Faso.

I wonder what the military in Niger thinks. Still, there are uranium mines in the country ...
Al Ahram adds:
Defense Minister Aime Barthelemy Simpore told state broadcaster RTB that a few barracks had been affected not only in Ouagadougou but in ``some cities elsewhere.`` He denied, however, that President Roch Marc Christian Kabore were tossed into the calaboose by the mutinous soldiers, even though his whereabouts remained unknown.

A news headline on the state broadcaster described the gunfire as ``acts of discontent by soldiers.''

``The military hierarchy is working to restore calm and serenity in the barracks,'' it read. ``Contrary to some information, no institution of the republic has been targeted.''

At the Lamizana Sangoule military barracks, however, angry soldiers shot into the air Sunday, directing their anger over army casualties at the president.

About 100 cycle of violences later left the base, chanting in support of the mutineers, but were stopped when security forces deployed tear gas.

The soldiers put a man on the phone with The News Agency that Dare Not be Named who said that they were seeking better working conditions for Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
's military amid the escalating fight against Islamic krazed killers.

Among their demands are increased manpower in the battle against bully boys, and better care for those maimed and the families of the dead. The mutinous soldiers also want the military and intelligence hierarchy replaced, he said.

The gunfire comes a day after protesters demanded his resignation at a demonstration in Ouagadougou. Kabore has faced growing opposition since his reelection in November 2020. Last month he fired his prime minister and replaced most of the Cabinet.

NDLEA Operatives Intercept UK, Saudi Arabia-bound Smugglers Of Cocaine

The Spokesman of the agency, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday said in Abuja that the illicit drugs were packed inside locally made shoes through two major courier companies in Lagos and were foiled by narcotic officers attached to the firms.

He added that the operatives raided a relaxation centre, popularly called Garden in Abuja, where six persons were arrested for selling drug cookies and noodles.

Babafemi explained that following credible intelligence, operatives raided the Garden at Wuse Zone 5 behind Shoprite, where a lady Rachael Famiyesun, 29, who deals in drug cookies was arrested along with her salesgirl, Stella Sunday, 20.

"Besides the cookies, they were also caught selling bottles of a drink popularly called Zobo prepared with cannabis," he said.

He said that another business operator in the Garden, Moses Obi, 30, was also arrested with his salesgirl, Aisha Abdulrahman, 19, for selling noodles prepared with cannabis.

Equally a barman, Ahonye Jonah, 31, who works with the owner of The Garden, was arrested while one of their customers, 38-year-old Ngozi Justina Emelogu was also picked up during the raid on Wednesday, January 19.

US Navy seizes vessel carrying potential explosives
[Rudaw] The US Navy on Sunday announced that it had stopped and forcibly taken over a stateless fishing vessel in the Gulf of Oman carrying 40 tons of a fertilizer potentially used to make explosives.

According to a statement by the US 5th Fleet, based in Bahrain, the "guided-missile destroyer USS Cole and patrol coastal ship USS Chinook interdicted the stateless vessel transiting from Iran
...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979...
in waters outside of any state’s territorial sea."

"US forces discovered 40 tons of urea fertilizer, a chemical compound with agricultural applications that is also known to be used as an explosive precursor," the statement continued.

The ship was seized along a route infamously used to smuggle weapons to the Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
s
in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
. The statement also describes the same "stateless fishing vessel" as one that was caught carrying thousands of AK-47 assault rifles, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, heavy sniper rifles, and other weapons off the coast of Somalia last February.

Following the ship’s capture on January 18, the US Navy handed over the vessel, as well as all its components, to Yemen Coast Guard officials on January 21.

An early January AFP report stated that the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
(UN) had found thousands of weapons seized in the Arabian Sea not long ago. The weapons all likely came from a single port in Iran, evidence Tehran is exporting arms to Yemen and elsewhere.

The incident comes as Tehran’s negotiating team heads back to Vienna amid talks to revive the 2015 nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Despite the Vienna talks making significant progress, the subject of lifting sanctions on Iran have been stalled by Washington.

While the US, under former President Donald Trump
...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons......
’s administration withdrew from the talks, Iran has enormously increased its uranium enrichment. Iran’s atomic energy agency in November said that its stockpile of 20 percent enriched uranium has reached over 210 kilograms, while it was not meant to enrich uranium above 3.67 percent according to the JCPOA.

American and Iranian warships in the Persian Gulf had a tense encounter last April, when an Iranian ship cut in front of the American ship, causing the vessel to stop abruptly.

The US and G7 member states last July accused Iran of a drone attack on a ship off the coast of Oman that killed two sailors, holding British and Romanian nationalities respectively. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken vowed to hold Iran responsible for the attack, while Iran denied responsibility.

In 2020, eleven Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGCN) vessels approached the US Navy’s 5th Fleet while they were "conducting joint integration operations" with Apache attack helicopters in the Persian Gulf.

[HodhodYemenNews] The Yemeni Armed Forces have yet again defeated an attempted offensive by the Saudi-led coalition in the governorate of Shabwah.

“During the last 24 hours, our armed forces were able to counter a number of large-scale advances with heavy air cover toward our forces’ positions in A’ain district of Shabwah,” Armed Forces spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Sare’e said in a message on Saturday.

The statement continued by claiming that around 120 invaders were killed or injured, and twelve armoured vehicles were destroyed in the Yemeni victory, which also saw the use of four ballistic missiles launched by Yemeni forces against the enemies.

Islamic State boasts of daring prison attack in northeast Syria
See more here.
[Rudaw] The pickup truck reverses and smashes into the concrete wall behind it, causing a section to break, leaving a hole that reveals the scene of devastation inside an ad-hoc detention facility in the south of Hasakah city housing hardcore Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) krazed killers. Military vehicles belonging to the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are aflame, and smoke can be seen rising around the compound. Cries of "Allah Akbar" can be heard each time the vehicle reverses. A krazed killer steps forward and holds his mobile phone to film the scene inside the facility.

Several videos like this, of Friday's audacious and sophisticated attack on the Senaa prison in Hasaka’s Ghweran neighborhood in northeast Syria, known to locals as Ghweran prison, have circulated on social media for the last four days since a group of around 100 ISIS snuffies snuck into the neighborhood surrounding the prison and attacked the facility where around 10,000 members of ISIS are held by Kurdish led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

23 terrorists killed, 89 arrested in al-Hasaka, ISIS using kids as human shields
See more here.

A source in the Global Coalition against ISIS revealed that 23 holy warriors of those who fled Ghuwaryan prison in al-Hasaka, Syria, had been killed, while 89 others were arrested, by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The source told Shafaq News agency that there are no casualties among the ranks of the Global Coalition forces, after they clashed with holy warriors who fled the Prison on January 20.

ISIS has attacked the prison housing its suspected members and a military base in Iraq in near-simultaneous deadly operations that have revived fears of the terror group’s resurgence.

The terrorist organization has yet to comment on the attacks and there is no indication that these were coordinated, but according to analysts they strongly suggest IS is trying to boost its ranks and arsenal in an attempt to reorganize across both countries.

The attack in Syria killed at least 23 Kurdish security forces and set "dozens of IS fighters" free, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

IS using hundreds of minors as human shields as Syrian prison standoff continues
[IsraelTimes] Several dozen Death Eaters remained holed up in one wing of the prison, to the north and in adjacent buildings.

More than 3,000 suspected IS bad boys, including over 600 minors, are held in Gweiran, the largest of a dozen detention facilities in Syria housing bad boys.

The Death Eaters were using hundreds of minors held in the same facility as human shields, preventing a final assault, a front man for the Kurdish forces, Farhad Shami, said.

The coalition said the IS Death Eaters seized arms from prison guards before murdering them and attempted to destroy a new, more secure facility under construction next to the Gweiran prison.

Siamand Ali, another front man for the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, said IS Death Eaters attempted two attacks Sunday on the prison, also known as al-Sinaa prison. One attack was from Death Eaters holed up nearby and another from outside the city of Hassakeh, where the prison is located. Both were foiled, Ali said.

Between 150 and 200 Death Eaters were believed holed up in the northern wing of the prison and adjacent residential area, including Zuhour neighborhood which was cordoned off by security forces, Ali added.

Late Sunday, the Kurdish-led administration announced a weeklong nightly curfew would start Monday, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Ali called it a precautionary measure to prevent IS Death Eaters from sending reinforcements to those holed up in and around the prison.
