Houthi militia killed at least 70 83 100+ soldiers and wounded 150 more
[TWITTER]
Al Ahram adds:
A medical source at a Marib city hospital, where the casualties were transported, said that 83 soldiers were killed and 148 injured in the strike.

Death tolls in Yemen's grinding conflict are often disputed, but the huge casualty list in Marib represents one of the bloodiest single attacks since the war erupted in 2014 when the rebels seized Sanaa.

The drone and missile strike came a day after coalition-backed government forces launched a large-scale operation against the Houthis in the Nihm region, north of Sanaa. Fighting in Nihm was ongoing on Sunday, a military source said according to the official Saba news agency.

"Dozens from the (Houthi) militia were killed and injured," the source added.
Subsequently from The Times of Israel:
“We strongly condemn the terrorist attack on a mosque by the Huthi militias… which left more than 100 dead and dozens injured,” the Yemeni foreign ministry said on Twitter.

Honduran migrants clash with Mexican troops blocking the 2,500-strong US-bound caravan on a bridge at Guatemalan border as hundreds of guards line the banks of the river to prevent crossing
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Scuffles broke out at the bridge spanning the Suchiate River between Mexico and Guatemala on Saturday

  • Honduran migrants waved their country's flag and sang the national anthem as they approached the bridge
  • If you love it so much - stay there and STFU
  • At the height of the confrontation, Guatemalan authorities say 2,500 migrants were on the bridge

  • Scores of people who entered Guatemala from Honduras in recent days have been arriving at the Mexican border, testing the resolve of Mexico to heed US demands to contain migrant flows

  • Hundreds of guardsmen also lined the river to prevent migrants from crossing into Mexico clandestinely

  • The latest exodus from Honduras has been accompanied by US border agents.
Mexico's National Migration Institute said via Twitter on Saturday that it had reinforced multiple points along the country's southern border to assure 'safe, orderly and regular immigration.' It also said it was using drones to monitor the region.

Interior Minister Olga Sanchez said earlier this week that the migrants would not be granted safe conduct passes.

About 400 of the migrants who entered Guatemala since Wednesday have been returned to their countries of origin, according to a statement issued by the Guatemalan government.

Heavily armed protesters in bullet proof vests descend on Richmond gun rally as Virginia governor declares a state of emergency and hundreds line up with their weapons to stand against Democrats' proposed reform
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] latest update as of 1:43 p.m. ET. Check out the photos at the link — lots of guns, but also lots of headcams and visible unit identifiers. Antifa threatened to come out in support of the protesters, but they do not appear to have showed up.
  • The rally drew thousands to Virginia's Capitol on Monday after weeks of fervent anticipation

  • Hundreds had already started lining up hours before the scheduled start, some with their weapons

  • It began at 11am, with crowds pouring in to Capitol Square for the event , and was over before 1pm

  • Protesters were not allowed to bring guns into the actual event and everyone is being screened

  • There were speakers inside the event including prominent Republicans and heroes who have brought down gunmen at attempted mass shootings

  • Militia bosses feared the protest could still turn violent despite the enormous police and security presence

  • Six alleged neo-Nazis were arrested in the run-up to it and the FBI is still combing through threats

  • Ralph Northam, Virginia's Governor, declared a state of emergency in anticipation of the event

#1  There's some scuttlebutt that Antifa will carry out a false-flag operation. Folks with MAGA-wear to attack Anti-Gun protesters.

Don't know how true, but wouldn't put it past them.

#2  I don't go to protests as a participant or a spectator. I have looked at body cams as an accessory to use in potentially dicey situations, but they all have to be worn in a way where they are easily seen or camouflaged in a way that won't really fool anybody. Someone needs to make one with the actual sensor and lens on a stalk so you can pocket the bulk of the device and have the lens peek out from your collar or some such. If enough of these were floating around, "false flag" would get a lot harder to pull and the blowback when the video got around would change the equation relating to trying such stunts. Perhaps...

#3  There's some scuttlebutt that Antifa will carry out a false-flag operation.

Wouldn't put it past them...most likely at the instigation of the governor...just like Charlottesville. I'm all for the NRA and gun rights, even though I don't own one. But events like these are magnets for troublemakers. Wouldn't it be better just to challenge Virginia's new laws in court?
Posted by: Abu Uluque || 01/20/2020 11:32 Comments || Top||

#4  I live near Richmond, and I presume it's true, #1 Mullah Richard. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Ralfie is one of the instigators (not that I'm stupid enough to actually make an accusation, though it's not illegal - YET - to speculate). >:-(

That said, I'm not going anywhere near the state Capital, (1) because I worked for the Legislature long enough to detest the whole mess of them - Legislature, Governor, etc.; and (2) since I'm retired [I used to work downtown not too far from the Capital/legislative buildings], I don't plan to cross the city/county line EVER again. I'm not nearly as dumb as I look.

#5  ...well, did they give up teaching in VA schools about the last time the governor and legislature decided they didn't need the US Constitution?

#6  ^ If the NYT's idiotic "1619 Project" authors have their way, they will replace a factual and sophisticated account of US history with long screeds about how everything in our history, north or south, pre-Eli Whitney or after 1863, literally everything can be reduced to the universal American desire to preserve and extend slavery.

Including the Revolution.

#7  It's 5 minutes past noon in Virginia. Just checked the TV and they're showing a HUGE (YUGE?) crowd covering several blocks in all directions beginning to break up (guess the rally was scheduled to end at noon); apparently lots of people outside the fencing brought along their (legal, non-concealed) rifles, etc. - the TV "reporter" kept remarking on it (poor bay-bee).

Guess Ralfie, et al., didn't get what they wanted. Ain't that just too bad. :-D
Posted by: Barbara || 01/20/2020 12:18 Comments || Top||

#8  It is important to make a point. To make sure that people like Northam know that you are not intimidated, and that you will not back down because of threats or harassment. Court challenges are great and absolutely essential, but protests and confrontation are just as essential. As is arguing back when confronted. Never give in.

#9  Re #3: Not when the courts are packed by/with Dems. .

Iraq
Iraqi counter-terrorism forces arrest high-ranking ISIS official in Fallujah
[Rudaw] Iraqi counter terrorism forces (ICTS) announced on Sunday that they captured a high-ranking Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....

... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
while at least one Iraqi soldier was killed by an ISIS attack in south of Kirkuk on Saturday.

Iraqi counter terrorism forces announced in a tweet on Sunday that the unnamed ISIS security official for Fallujah was arrested in the city itself.

The arrest follows the capture of senior ISIS mufti Shifa al-Nima in djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
’s Mansour neighbourhood, announced by the Media Cell on Thursday.
AKA Abu Abdrool al-Hutt
The Iraqi Security Media Cell also revealed on Saturday that one Iraqi soldier had been killed after ISIS holy warriors attacked an army checkpoint in southern Kirkuk.

"Members of the ISIS terrorist attacked a checkpoint point belonging to the 1st Company of the 3rd Regiment in the 45th brigade in the Iraqi army, in the area of Tal al-Deeb in the province of Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
which led to the martyrdom of one of the soldiers from the 3rd Regiment." Iraqi Security Media Cell tweeted.

Kirkuk has seen a spate of ISIS attacks in recent months, with sleeper cell offensives killing both civilians and military personnel.

IDF said to strike Hamas border post after apparent balloon attack from Gaza

border Sunday afternoon, apparently in response to the launching of a balloon-borne bomb from the Strip, Paleostinian media reported Sunday.

There were no immediate reports of Paleostinian injuries.

An explosives-laden balloon had earlier detonated over Sderot in southern Israel, causing no injuries or damage, according to Israeli media reports. The Sderot municipality said it was aware of the reports regarding the earth-shattering kaboom, but was unable to locate the source of the blast.

The reported Israeli retaliatory attack was not immediately confirmed by the military.

Terror groups in the Gaza Strip have flown in numerous bombs and incendiary devices into Israeli territory from the enclave with the aid of helium-filled balloons. Police called on the public to alert authorities to any suspicious-looking objects and refrain from approaching them.

On Friday, police sappers were scrambled in the coastal city of Ashdod after an bomb tied to a bunch of balloons was found near the town’s promenade.

On Thursday at least two clusters of balloons carrying bombs were apparently launched from the Strip into southern Israel, with one of them detonating soon after impact, police said. The previous day as well, police sappers were dispatched to the border town of Sderot where a suspicious object attached to a cluster of balloons landed in a residential neighborhood.

Israeli aircraft attacked targets in the northern Gaza Strip on Thursday for the second day in a row in response to explosives-laden balloons. There were no reports from Gaza on damage or casualties in the strikes.

Video published by Israel’s Kan news purported to show Hamas members leaving a post ahead of the strike.

Syria: Air defense systems activated near Russian military base
