2 Kenyans abducted in Mogadishu by unknown gunmen
Mogadishu -- reliable news sources have confirmed to Shabelle radio in Mogadishu that 2 Kenyan citizens have been abducted in Mogadishu by unknown gunmen.
Maybe it was the Esquimoux?
The 2 male whose names have not yet been identified were abducted while they were driving out from their residential suburbs area which is located at Kaasabobolaare suburbs in Banadir’s Hodan district.

The sources add that the 2 Kenyans whose work has not yet been established were accompanied by their driver (a Somali citizen) who was ordered to handle the keys of the vehicle by the gunmen and was freed at the spot.
That of course means that the driver was the inside man on this job...
The abduction comes at a time when many Kenyans are flowing into Somalia’s capital working either for Somali businessmen or invest their own money.

Shaboobs warn Mogadishu residents 'not to work for int'l agencies'
MOGADISHU -- Somalia’s Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group Monday issued a fresh warning to Mogadishu residents, asking the ordinary residents not to work for international agencies, Garowe Online reports.

Speaking on Pro-Al Shabaab radio station, the group’s representative in Banadir region Sheikh Ali Mohamud Hussein said that they would fight those who work at UN and Turkish agencies offices in Mogadishu.

“We warn the residents of Mogadishu against working for international agencies, whether they are UN or Turkish agencies,” noted Hussein, adding that Al Shabaab will firmly deal with anybody who breaches the order.

Al Shabaab representative in Banadir region declared that Al Shabaab militants are ready to launch more attacks on US military advisers, their Somali friends and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) peacekeepers.

“USA was the last enemy that dispatched advisers to Somalia, we will fight against those who have been hired,” he said.

Al Shabaab previously called on the residents in Mogadishu to keep themselves away from government offices.

Two suicide bombers rammed explosive laden cars into Al Jazeera hotel in Mogadishu, a spot popular with Somali government officials and foreigners, killing five persons including two police officers a few days after Somalis witnesses the year 2014.

Two civilians gunned down in Mogadishu
MOGADISHU -- Gunmen and the Somali Federal Government soldier separately killed two civilians as heavy fighting occurred in Mogadishu’s Yaqshid district late on Saturday night, Garowe Online reports.

Unidentified assailants shot a female cleaner working for Somalia University of Mogadishu in head and chest at Kaasabal-Balaare junction on Sunday according to witnesses.

“I expect that Al Shabaab behind the assassination. It is quite complex to know why a woman free from politics was killed and this shows that such groups don’t want progress for our people,” said a spokesman for Hodan district commissioner.

In a separate incident, Somalia Federal Government soldier killed unarmed civilian in Gubta neighborhood of Mogadishu’s Dayniile district. Witnesses said that a quarrel between the soldier and the civilian finally degenerated into the killing.

Meanwhile in Yaqshid district, suspected Al Shabaab militants attacked a military base, leading to the death of 4 persons from the opposing sides. Yaqshid district commissioner told the media that the government soldiers repelled a planned attack but he didn’t mention the exact number of casualty figures.

North Yemen fighting has killed at least 210, Salafis say
[Ynet] At least 210 people have been killed in two months of fighting between Shi'ite Moslem Houthis and Sunni Salafis in northern Yemen, a Salafi front man said on Monday.

The violence erupted on October 30 when the Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is "God is Great, Death to America", Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews" ...
rebels who control much of the northern Saada province accused Salafis in the town of Damaj of recruiting thousands of imported muscle to prepare to attack them.

The Salafis say the foreigners are students seeking to deepen their knowledge of Islam.
No doubt. So are the Taliban.

Two Britons Arrested for Alleged Terror Offenses in Syria
[An Nahar] British counter-terror police tossed in the calaboose

two men on Monday at London's Heathrow Airport on suspicion of terrorism offenses linked to Syria, police said.

The men, both aged 21 and from Birmingham, central England,
Named Nigel and Lloyd?
were held after arriving back in Britannia on a flight from Istanbul in Turkey, West Midlands Police said.

They are believed to have traveled to Syria in May 2013, police said.

British police have over the past three years arrested a number of people who have traveled to Syria over concerns that they are fighting with jihadi groups.

Unarmed officers from the force's counter-terrorism unit detained the two men on Monday as they disembarked from their plane and they are now being questioned at a cop shoppe in the West Midlands area, which includes Birmingham.

Police played down any immediate terror threat.

"We took action this afternoon in order to ensure we can properly understand what activities these men have been engaged in whilst in Syria -- not because they posed any imminent threat to the public," said Detective Chief Superintendent Kenny Bell, head of the West Midlands counter-terrorism unit.

Foreign Secretary William Hague said on Monday that "hundreds" of Britons were believed to have gone to fight in Syria but said security forces were doing their best to monitor the situation.

In November British prosecutors dropped a case against a doctor accused of kidnapping a British photographer and his Dutch colleague in Syria.

Russia says arrest of six men 'prevented another terrorist act'
Russian authorities arrested six men on Friday as suspects in the deadly December 27 car bombing in the southern city of Pyatigorsk that killed three people. Russia's National Anti-terrorism Committee said the six suspects, whose names have not been released, admitted guilt and that their arrest "has prevented another terrorist act".

The car bombing took place on December 27 when 50 kilograms of TNT was detonated outside a traffic police building. Two suicide bombings followed on December 28 and 29 in the southern city of Volgograd, that killed at least 34 people.

India-Pakistan
Three militants gunned down in Sopore encounter
[INDIANEXPRESS] Three snuffies were killed in a fierce shootout with security forces at a Sopore village in Jammu and Kashmire on Monday. This is the third major encounter between the snuffies and security forces in the last seven days in Sopore -- a bad boy and separatist stronghold in north Kashmire.

"Three snuffies have been killed so far. The encounter is still on and the identification of the dead snuffies is under process," Superintendent of Police (Sopore) Abdul Qayoom told The Indian Express on Monday evening.

A joint team of police and army cordoned off Dooru village, in the outskirts of Sopore town, in the afternoon after they reportedly received specific inputs about the presence of snuffies in the village. As the forces were zeroing in on the target house, the snuffies opened indiscriminate fire, said sources in the security forces.

Police sources said they had received information about the presence of three to four snuffies in the village and those killed in the encounter belong to the Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
and are foreigners.

Sopore and its surrounding villages is a transit point for the snuffies who infiltrate into the valley from Kupwara frontier. Sources said in last few months, a good number of snuffies have managed to cross the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara.

Three days ago, the police and army had launched an operation against the snuffies in the forests of Marbal in Sopore -- just a few kilometres away from Dooru. One bad boy was killed in the operation, which is still going on.

On January 7, a policeman was killed and three others were maimed in a fierce shootout at Chankhan neighbourhood of Sopore when police and army cordoned off the area after specific information about the presence of bad boys. The bad boy, believed to be a top Lashkar commander, however had managed to escape.

Iraq
Attacks kill 26 in Iraq during UN chief's visit
Fresh violence killed at least 26 people Monday in Iraq, where the UN chief was on a visit urging leaders to tackle the issues driving fighting in a western province where the army is in a standoff with Al Qaeda-linked fighters.

Police officials said the deadliest of the attacks took place at night when a car bomb exploded near a market in Baghdad's northeastern district of Shaab, killing 10 people, including three policemen, and wounding 13 others.

A car bomb also exploded in a commercial street in northwestern Baghdad, police said, killing five people and wounding 14.

Another car bomb killed four and wounded 12 in a commercial street in Baghdad's Hurriyah neighbourhood, police said.

Earlier, another car bomb exploded in a commercial street in northern Baghdad, killing three people and wounding 13 others.

Near the city of Fallujah, army artillery shelled a village overnight, killing four civilians, hospital officials said. Medics in nearby hospital confirmed the death toll for all attacks.

Meanwhile, the UN chief Ban Ki-moon arrived in Baghdad on a visit aimed at discussing regional issues, especially the crisis in Syria. Ban expressed deep concern over the violence hitting Iraq's Sunni-dominated Anbar province.

"The situation in Anbar Governorate, particularly in Fallujah and Ramadi, is a source of grave concern. The security situation in Iraq is undoubtedly a source of great concern," he told reporters during a joint Press conference with the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki.

Child Hurt as Israel Launches Two Air Raids on Gaza
[An Nahar] Israel on Monday launched two Arclight airstrikes on the Gazoo Strip, which left a Paleostinian child maimed.

Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. One child was slightly injured in Nuseirat, medical sources said.

Earlier on Monday, Gazoo hard boyz fired two rockets that hit an area close to the ranch where former Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon was laid to rest, an Israeli military spokeswoman said.

The Israeli raids came in retaliation for the shelling from Gazoo.

Gaza Projectiles Hit Israel after Sharon Burial
We each mourn in our own way -- don't be so judgmental!
[An Nahar] Gazoo hard boyz fired two projectiles which struck an area close to the ranch where former Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon was laid to rest on Monday, a military spokeswoman said.

"Two projectiles landed in an open area in the Shaar HaNegev region," the spokeswoman told Agence La Belle France Presse, referring to the area around the northern border with Gazoo, without specifying exactly where they struck.

Police front man Micky Rosenfeld said the projectiles had targeted the town of Sderot, which lies very close to the Gazoo border, and just four kilometers (2.5 miles) west of Sycamore Ranch, causing no injuries or damage.

Given the ranch's proximity to the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-run Gazoo Strip, the Israeli police and army had beefed up security in the area, with unconfirmed media reports saying the military had deployed a battery of the Iron Dome missile defense system to counter possible rocket attacks.

Southeast Asia
Indonesian jihadis take up arms in Syria
A terror suspect killed during a security operation on New Year's Day had been planning to wage jihad in Syria, Indonesian officials said. National Police Chief Sutarman said, "Nurul Haq was planning to go to Syria [to perform] jihad and had completed the required preparations, such as passport, visa requirements, and other necessities."

Nurul was one of six men killed while resisting arrest during a nine-hour standoff with an Indonesian counter-terror squad in South Tangerang. They were suspected of robbing a bank and of bombing a Buddhist temple in Jakarta last August.

Nurul Haq was also in charge of bomb assembly training camps in Poso, and was part of the Abu Roban group, according to Sutarman. He said, "They have a strong connection with their senior leadership, including [the late] Noordin M. Top."

Indonesian authorities have not provided information on how many Indonesians are fighting in Syria. However, several humanitarian aid and relief efforts for Syria originated in Indonesia.

Ismail Yusanto, a spokesman for Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI), said members of his group are going to Syria to join opposition groups fighting the Assad regime. He said, "Many of our members are conducting jihad [in] Syria. Since it is easier to come legally to Syria using a tourist visa, many of them are able to conduct jihad personally."

Yusanto added that HTI had already committed to helping opposition fighters in Syria implement their interpretation of sharia law in its areas.

Many Indonesians disagree with their understanding of jihad, however. According to Central Jakarta Islamic cleric Burhanuddin, Indonesia needs jihadis to fight intolerance and help fellow Muslims understand the truths of Islam, not to wage war. He said, "Indonesian jihadis deploying to defend Muslims in other countries is not a new phenomenon. But is it necessary to go to Syria now?"

Burhanuddin added, "We need more jihadists to fight against improper understandings of Islam. Islam is not terrorists and we are not part of them."

Campus bombing injures 24 in Mindanao
Philippine police said that at least 24 people were injured, 17 of them in critical condition, when a fragmentation grenade exploded inside the campus of a government-run school in North Cotabato province in Mindanao.

Police chief Rolly Oranza said the attack occurred on Sunday night inside the campus of the Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology in Arakan, North Cotabato. He said initial investigations suggest the still unidentified suspects first set fire to a building inside the campus, which housed the school’s security personnel.

Oranza added that as the firemen, policemen, teachers and students rushed to the scene, a suspect lobbed the fragmentation grenade into the crowd. He said, “The fire drew a big crowd including teachers and students and they were among the wounded."

Oranza said they have not yet established the motive for the bombing which came after security personnel discovered an improvised explosive device planted at the flagpole of the school last September.

No group has taken responsibility the bombing. The attack follows a recent series of encounters between Philippine government forces and members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fights (BIFF) that killed at least nine people.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Palestinian refugee camp in Syria virtually destroyed
[Ynet] Yarmouk residents dying of starvation as siege by Assa forces continues. Paleostinian: 'We want to tell the PLO that if they don't do anything the revolution will arrive to Ramallah and Gazoo'
A deadly lesson in sowing and reaping will once again be ignored.
More than 40 Paleostinians have now died of starvation in the Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus, say activists who are calling on the Paleostinian Liberation Organization (PLO) to intervene.
Haven't you heard? There is no longer a PLO -- it died with Arafat. It's the oh so respectable Palestinian Authority now, ever so respectable and posh, trying to act like a real government instead of a bunch of Moscow-trained hoodlums.
Three quarters of the dead have perished in the last three weeks as the situation in the camp, which is home to much of Syria's Paleostinian population, reaches a crisis point after six months of a crippling siege which have seen supplies of food and medical aid blocked from reaching the camp.

An estimated 170,000 people were previously living in the camp, with most leaving during the year long partial-siege before movement in and out of the camp became completely cut off.
Smart move. Though as I recall, it was a similar bit of cleverness that stranded their ancestors in that place to start with.
Conditions in the refugee camp have become desperate since the full government siege began in July 2013. The blockade of the area has meant no aid has been able to reach the estimated 18,000 residents of the camp. Christopher Gunness of the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
Relief and Works Agency for Paleostinian Refugees said it isn't just the lack of food and medicine that is making the situation untenable for residents.

"Residents are having to rely on going out on terraces and burning furniture and branches to warm themselves in the open because wood fires cannot be used indoors. There is a very infrequent supply of tap water -- reportedly available for four hours only at intervals of three days."
It sounds like Assad is serious about his siege.
Many of Yarmouk's residents are of Paleostinian origin and tensions within the Paleostinian community reached Ramallah over the weekend as young protestors staged a sit-in at the PLO headquarters in the city over what they believe is a failure by the Paleostinian administration to assist in relieving conditions in the camp.
Good luck with that, guys.
The United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
is gravely concerned about the appalling conditions in the camp, Gunness told the Media Line.

In addition to the humanitarian conditions in the camp there are continuing festivities, with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reporting that several surface to surface missiles were fired into the camp last week.

#2  For the past 20 years I have been wondering WHY Palestinians haven't moved to Brazil. They could have had a good life if they were just smart enough to move where they aren't looking for a handout and then take responsibility for building a working future.

How about getting an apartment and a job in the entire rest of the world that needs hard working productive citizens added to their populations? Australia and Brazil need workers with skills. Hell, a Palestinian could even open a Pizza parlor in Wyoming.
Lots of space in Wyoming, not to say Montana.
Work for a living, think and plan, have some fun and adventure. Build a new life and learn a new language. Strap on a bomb and kill the Juice? Where is the future in that.

Mortar Attack In Central Syria Kills At Least 19
[Ynet] Syrian state media and anti-government activists say a mortar attack has killed at least 19 people in the central city of Homs.

The official SANA news agency said late on Sunday that the mortar rounds slammed into the pro-government Ghouta and Karm al-Shami neighborhoods of Homs.

It blamed "terrorists" for the attack, employing the term the government uses to describe those trying to topple Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
