Fifth Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine added to line-up at Naval Base Point Loma
[SD UT] The USS Greeneville on Monday was added to the stable of Los Angeles-class, fast-attack submarines that are homeported in San Diego Bay as part of Submarine Squadron 11.

Naval Base Point Loma now has five of the nuclear-powered submarines, which are regularly sent on deployment to the Indo-Pacific, sometimes to help protect carrier strike groups based in San Diego.

Greeneville operates with a crew of roughly 155 sailors and is capable of firing land-attack Tomahawk cruise missiles that travel upwards of 900 miles.

Greeneville — which bears the name of Greeneville, Tennessee, the home of Andrew Johnson, the nation’s 17th president — was commissioned 28 years ago, making it one of the oldest submarines in the Navy. It recently finished a 30-month engineering overhaul at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine.

"(Our) crew has demonstrated their professionalism and resilience in safely bringing Greeneville to our new home," Commanding Officer Chad Tella said in a prepared statement. "I could not be more proud of each and every crewmember."

RSF accused of killing 18 in two-day assault on Al Jazirah area
[SUDANTRIBUNE] A group affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out a second day of deadly attacks in the area of Takina, Kamleen locality, Al Jazirah state, killing at least 18 people and injuring many more.

Residents of the central Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
state regularly report widespread violations including killings, arrests, forced displacement, and looting. Further, the RSF, which has controlled the state since December 2023, has been accused of terrorizing local communities and exploiting communication blackouts to their advantage.

Musab Takina, a resident of Takina, recounted the events to Sudan Tribune, stating that the violence began on Monday when RSF forces arrived searching for fuel. Unable to find any, they opened fire on civilians, killing 11.

The following day, the RSF returned with reinforcements, using heavy weaponry against residential areas and killing an additional seven people.

Musab denies the RSF’s claims that locals were armed with military-grade weapons, stating that any firearms used were personal and for self-defence.

As a result of the violence, over 30,000 residents have been forced to flee.

In a released audio recording, RSF commander in Al Jazirah state, Abu Aqla Keikel, claimed he was responding to reports of troublemakers but was met with heavy fire.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
the RSF has consistently denied responsibility for the violence, blaming unidentified troublemakers, Islamist brigades, and security agencies for committing crimes in their name.

Mali court jails professor for criticizing government
[AFRICANEWS] A court in Mali has sentenced economist Etienne Fakaba Sissoko to two years in prison, with one year suspended, for criticizing the military junta in his book.

Sissoko’s lawyer, Ibrahim Marhouf Sacko, announced the verdict and plans to appeal.

Sissoko, a professor at the University of Bamako, faced charges of harming the state's reputation, defamation, and spreading misinformation for his 2023 book on government communication during Mali's transition.

THE BOOK
According to reports, the book critically examines the military government’s use of what it terms propaganda, manipulation and even lies to influence public opinion, particularly during the promised "transition" period leading back to civilian rule.

The junta missed their initial deadline of March 2024 for a return to democracy, with no new date set.

Subsequently, at the May 6 hearing, Sissoko defended his work stating his use of factual evidence and expert analysis.

THROWBACK
This isn’t his first run-in with the authorities. In 2022, Sissoko, formerly an advisor to the ousted president, spent months in jail for criticizing the government’s stance on Christmas celebrations and questioning the validity of his academic credentials.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
Sissoko’s lawyer suggests the real trigger for his recent imprisonment was his public commentary on the economic impact of sanctions imposed on Mali by neighbouring West African nations.

BACKGROUND
Mali has been grappling with political and security instability since 2012, facing attacks from krazed killers, gangs, and a separatist movement in the north.

PTI top leader Raoof Hasan injured in Islamabad attack
[GEO.TV] A group of around four people, apparently transgender persons, attacked and injured Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
’s (PTI) spokesperson Raoof Hasan in Islamabad on Tuesday, drawing strong condemnation from his party.

"Extremely shameful and deplorable," PTI said in a statement on X, formerly Twitter, adding: "Central Information Secretary Raoof Hasan attacked by unknown persons outside the office of a private channel."

It is, however, unclear why did the persons attack the politician.

In the video shared along with the statement, Hasan could be heard asking people to call the doctor, with injuries and blood seen on his face as he walked into a building.

PTI, in another statement, said if the spokesperson of the "largest party" can be attacked in the federal capital in broad daylight, then "what can we make of the safety of others".

According to the CCTV footage of the incident obtained by Geo News, Hasan can be seen being attacked by a group of apparent transgender persons, who used a sharp object as well.

The footage shows Hasan was interrupted by an apparent transgender person while he was walking on the side of a road, subsequently, the attacker engaged in conversation with the PTI leader for a few seconds.

After a brief conversation, the PTI chief spokesperson tried to take a few steps back, seemingly sensing danger.

However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
the attacker grabbed the PTI leader from his collar and along with three other apparently transgender persons began thrashing him. The attackers were only dispersed after the intervention of a passerby.

The footage also shows a person filming the entire incident. It is not clear whether the attackers were really transgender persons or they were guised as transgender persons.

Later, while talking on Geo News' programme Capital Talk, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar condemned the attack and called for a detailed investigation into the incident.

Gaza battles flare as Israel slams arrest warrant bid for 'war crimes'

in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...

US President Joe The Big Guy Biden

Israeli authorities interrupted AP's broadcast and seized its equipment
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Tel Aviv, Israel, May 22, 2024, 01:27 - IA Regnum. Representatives of the Israeli authorities interrupted the live broadcast of the American agency Associated Press (AP) and seized broadcasting equipment in the city of Sderot in southern Israel. The Associated Press reported this on May 21.

The agency was accused of violating the law banning the Qatari TV channel Al Jazeera. According to the AP, the Sderot office was ordered on May 16 to stop broadcasting a general view of the northern Gaza Strip, but staff refused. On May 21, in the afternoon, employees of the Israeli Ministry of Communications arrived at the agency’s office, seized the equipment and interrupted the broadcast. Representatives of the AR were given a notice of violation of the law on foreign broadcasters, certified by Israeli Minister of Communications Shlomo Karya, since the AR's live broadcasts are used by the Qatari TV channel Al Jazeera.

“The Associated Press condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli government's actions in shutting down our long-running live broadcast of Gaza and confiscating AP equipment. The shutdown was not caused by an information component, but by the Israeli government’s abuse of the new law on foreign media broadcasting,” said Lauren Easton, a spokeswoman for the American agency, in a statement.

Easton appealed to Israeli authorities to return the equipment and restore broadcasting.

In early April, the Israeli Knesset passed a bill allowing the authorities to issue a decree to stop the work of foreign media in Israel if their activities harm national security. The law gives the Minister of Communications the power to close media offices, restrict access to websites and confiscate equipment.

Earlier, IA Regnum reported that in early May, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the Israeli government had unanimously decided to close the Al Jazeera TV channel in the country. Police raided the company's Jerusalem offices and seized its equipment.

Army seizes truck carrying guns in Batroun after it catches fire
[An Nahar] A truck carrying oils went up in flames Monday in the Batroun town of Basbina after which it turned out that it was also carrying 304 smuggled pistols, the army said on Tuesday.

The guns were hidden above the engine along with a quantity of magazines, the army said in a statement, adding that it has arrested a number of individuals suspected of being involved in the smuggling operation.

"The army searched the other trucks that had arrived along with this truck aboard a ship to the Port of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
," the statement said, adding that no arms or contraband material were found in the other trucks.

A senior judicial source had told Agence La Belle France Presse on Monday that the truck belongs to a Paleostinian resident of the Mieh Mieh Paleostinian refugee camp in south Leb
...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
.

The source added that the guns arrived aboard a ship that came from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...

IS attack in Syria kills three regime soldiers
[NEWARAB] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group Lions of Islam killed three Syrian regime soldiers in an attack Tuesday on an army position in the Badia desert, a war monitor said.

The Lions of Islam "attacked a site where... regime forces were stationed," the Syrian Observatory for Human Right said, adding that a lieutenant colonel and two soldiers died.

The Syrian army had sent forces to the area, where IS attacks are common, ahead of an expected wider sweep, said the Britannia-based Observatory which has a network of sources inside the country.

In an attack on May 3, IS fighters killed at least 15 Syrian pro-regime fighters when they targeted three military positions in the desert, the Observatory had reported.

IS overran large swathes of Syria and Iraq in 2014, proclaiming a so-called caliphate and launching a reign of terror.
