Virginia city councilman doused in gasoline and lit on fire in attack at his office
[NBC] A man attacked and poured gasoline on a Virginia city councilman before setting him on fire on Wednesday, according to police.

Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler was attacked at the office of local media outlet Showcase Magazine, where he works, in Danville, a small city roughly 45 miles northwest of Greensboro, North Carolina, police said in a statement.

A man entered the office Wednesday morning and confronted Vogler before dousing him in flammable liquid, according to authorities. Vogler and the suspect then exited the building, where the suspect lit Vogler on fire.

Police said Vogler was airlifted to a hospital and that his condition remains unknown.

Police identified the suspect as Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes of Danville. The 29-year-old fled the scene, but was picked up by law enforcement several blocks from where the incident occurred, police added.

Hayes is in police custody and could not be reached for comment.

Police said that the attack "stems from a personal matter not related to the victim’s position on Danville City Council or any other political affiliation."

New York City subway loses power amid life-threatening heat dome broiling millions across eastern US
[FoxWeather] Tuesday has been one of the worst days of a dangerous heat wave that is producing life-threatening conditions for those without access to cooling and hydration.

Nearly 160 million people across more than 25 states are under either an Extreme Heat Warning or Heat Advisory, from Florida to New England, and west through the Midwest and Mississippi Valley, even stretching to parts of northeastern Texas.

Tuesday was expected to be the hottest day of the year so far for major Northeast metropolitan areas, including Philadelphia, New York City and Boston.

Boston reached 99 degrees. An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through Tuesday for Newark, New Jersey, just across from New York.

In fact, Tuesday set the record for third-most 100+ degree days with weeks of summer left to go. It's the most 100-degree days on record before Aug. 1.

Down in eastern GA., we reached a 108 degree Heat Index.

The big box stores were full of people wandering around to avoid the heat and using the store AC to cool down.

It seems a number of good people had purchased the Wally World large packages of 16oz water bottles, froze them the night before, and were handing them out free to Homeless and people stranded in the heat.

#10  Went to a stupid movie recently. Cost a couple dollars. Person I went with and I enjoyed the visual expo, but didn't enjoy the movie until we got out and laughed about plot holes and dialogue, poor acting and off timed jokes. Whatever little interest I had in latest release eye candy was squashed after recently watching a couple episodes of the TV show Combat! and it's competency in all aspects of film.

Africa Horn
China issues stern warning to Somaliland over Taiwan maritime cooperation deal
[ShabelleMedia] China has issued a strong warning to the self-declared Republic of Somaliland
...Republic of Somaliland is an unrecognised sovereign state in the Horn of Africa, recognised internationally as a de jure part of Somalia. It is located in the southern coast of the Gulf of Aden with approximately 5.7 million residents as of 2021. The capital and largest city is Hargeisa. The government regards itself as the successor state to British Somaliland, which united from 1960 to 1991 with the Trust Territory of Somaliland (the former Italian Somaliland) to form the Somali Republic. Under the Siad Barre regime, Somaliadestroyed ninety percent of Hargeisa Per international law, once you're in, you gotta stay in, no matter how bad it smells....
following a recent maritime cooperation agreement signed with Taiwan, a move Beijing denounced as a violation of its illusory sovereignty and the "One China" principle.

The Chinese embassy in Somalia expressed sharp disapproval after Somaliland’s Foreign Minister, Abdirahman Dahir, visited Taiwan and signed a bilateral deal focused on coasties cooperation. The embassy said the agreement constitutes "a blatant breach of China’s territorial integrity" and undermines its core national interests.

"Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory — it has never been, and will never be, an independent country," a spokesperson for the Chinese embassy said in a statement. "Any form of interaction between the Somaliland regional authority and the Taiwan authorities is illegal and will bring no political benefit to Somaliland."

The spokesperson added that China "resolutely opposes any external interference" and will take "all necessary measures" to safeguard its illusory sovereignty. The embassy urged Somaliland to reconsider its engagement with Taiwan and align with the international community’s consensus recognizing Beijing as the sole legitimate government of China.

Somaliland, which declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but lacks international recognition, has steadily strengthened ties with Taiwan since the two sides exchanged representative offices in 2020. Their cooperation spans multiple sectors including healthcare, education, agriculture, digital technology, and resource development.

Taiwan has hailed the relationship as a model for democratic partnership in Africa and reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral ties. Taipei has framed the engagement as part of a broader strategy to build alliances with like-minded partners who share democratic values.

However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
Beijing’s escalating rhetoric comes at a time of heightened cross-strait tensions, and analysts warn that Somaliland’s growing alignment with Taiwan could draw it deeper into a geopolitical struggle between China and the island democracy.

China maintains that Somaliland remains part of Somalia’s sovereign territory and reiterated its support for Somalia’s territorial unity. The warning underscores Beijing’s zero-tolerance stance on any perceived challenges to its claim over Taiwan — a stance that may complicate Somaliland’s ongoing bid for international recognition.

Economy
USA economy: GDP up 3% annual rate in Q2
[BEAgov] Q2 2025 (Adv) +3.0%
Q1 2025 -0.5%

Real gross domestic product (GDP) increased at an annual rate of 3.0 percent in the second quarter of 2025 (April, May, and June), according to the advance estimate released by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the first quarter, real GDP decreased 0.5 percent. The increase in real GDP in the second quarter primarily reflected a decrease in imports, which are a subtraction in the calculation of GDP, and an increase in consumer spending. These movements were partly offset by decreases in investment and exports.
------------
This is an advanced estimate; later revisions may go + or - by 0.2% or so. In any event, +3% isn't bad but we really need a few years of +4%.

Outmigration Is Killing Illinois, and Democrats Can't Fix It
[RedState] Blue states have been losing residents to red states for some years now. In some cases (Colorado), the blue state migrants have turned those states into versions of the failures they left. In other cases (Texas), at least some of them left their original homes because they couldn't take the leftist governments anymore.

Case in point: Illinois is bleeding residents, almost a million between 2012 and 2022. Only New York and California are losing more people to outmigration. Where are all those people going, and why? Economist Stephen Moore has some thoughts.

Using data from the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Census Bureau, analysts found that Illinois lost 881,012 residents from 2012 to 2022.

Economist Stephen Moore said only New York and California suffered more domestic outmigration than the Land of Lincoln.

"This is the sad story, same thing. New York and California and Illinois are just being bled to death," Moore said.

VoteWithYourFeet.net breaks down the Census Bureau and IRS numbers from 2012 to 2022.

The data shows that Illinois was also one of the biggest losers for personal income, with a net adjusted gross income loss of $63,478,115,000 from 2012 to 2022. Only New York and California suffered heavier losses.

This is an eloquent portrayal of a state that is failing. They have driven the productive away, and a society can not survive without the productive, despite what Democrats say. And the very notion that things like horrendous taxation don't matter is laughable. People vote with their wallets, and when necessary, they vote with their feet.

Government Corruption
Patel found thousands of sensitive Trump–Russia probe docs inside 'burn bags' in secret room at FBI
[FOX] FBI Director Kash Patel found a trove of sensitive documents related to the origins of the Trump—Russia probe buried in multiple "burn bags" in a secret room inside the bureau, sources familiar with the incident told Fox News Digital.

Sources told Fox News Digital that the "burn bag" system is used to destroy documents designated as classified or higher.

Sources told Fox News Digital that multiple burn bags were found and filled with thousands of documents.

Sources told Fox News Digital that one of the documents FBI officials found in a burn bag was the classified annex to former special counsel John Durham's final report, which includes the underlying intelligence he reviewed.

The declassification of the classified annex is being done in close coordination between CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Patel, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Attorney General Pam Bondi and acting National Security Agency Director William Hartman.

RFK Jr blasts 'broken' vaccine injury program and pledges 'fix' as public health overhaul continues
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr has announced a major vaccine policy overhaul.

In a post on X, Kennedy, a long-time vaccine skeptic and former vaccine injury plaintiff lawyer, said he will work to 'fix' the program that compensates victims of vaccine injuries, the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP).

The VICP is a no-fault federal program designed to compensate individuals who are found to have been injured by vaccines.

Kennedy said that to date, the program has paid out $5.4 billion in government funds to 12,000 people who have filed claims, alleging they suffered from various injuries after receiving a vaccine dating back to 1986.

As of June 1, 2025, the VICP has compensated 12,019 claims that were deemed compensable from the 25,026 petitions that have been ruled on since its formation.

The VICP was created in the 1980s, after lawsuits against vaccine companies and health care providers threatened to cause vaccine shortages and reduce US vaccination rates, which could have caused a resurgence of vaccine preventable diseases.

Any individual, of any age, who received a covered vaccine and believes he or she was injured as a result can file a petition. Parents, legal guardians and legal representatives also can file on behalf of children, disabled adults, and individuals who are deceased.

But Kennedy complained that the VICP 'routinely dismisses meritorious cases outright or drags them out for years'.

As a longtime outspoken critic of the VICP, Kennedy went on to slam it and its 'Vaccine Court' for being corrupt and inefficient, referring to the nine voting members who make executive decisions on compensation cases.

'I will not allow the VICP to continue to ignore its mandate and fail its mission of quickly and fairly compensating vaccine-injured individuals,' he wrote, adding he was working with Attorney General Pam Bondi on the matter.

'Together, we will steer the Vaccine Court back to its original congressional intent.'

He continued: 'Instead of 'quickly and fairly' awarding compensation, Special Masters dismiss over half of the cases.

'Most of those that proceed typically take five-plus years to resolve, with many languishing for more than 10 years as parents struggle to care for children suffering with often extreme disabilities.'

He added, alleging: 'Expert witnesses for injured children complain that they suffer intimidation and even threats that they will lose professional status or NIH funding if they testify for injured children.

'The government pays its own medical expert witnesses promptly while simultaneously slow-walking payments for petitioners' experts—sometimes for years.'

RFK Jr said the VICP's structure works against claimants because the Department of Health and Human Services - which he now leads - stands as the accused, as opposed to makers of the vaccines at the center of the accusation.

And because of this, Kennedy claims that the VICP decisionmakers prioritize the financial health of the HHS Trust Fund, 'over their duty to compensate victims'.

He added: 'The structure itself hobbles claimants. The defendant is HHS, not the vaccine makers; and claimants are therefore facing the monumental power and bottomless pockets of the U.S. government represented by the Department of Justice.

'Furthermore, most of the Special Masters [judging panel] come from government, legal, or political posts, and typically display an extreme bias that favors the government side.'

Kennedy did not give specific details on how he would change the VICP.

His X post concluded: 'The VICP is broken, and I intend to fix it. I will not allow the VICP to continue to ignore its mandate and fail its mission of quickly and fairly compensating vaccine-injured individuals.

'I am grateful to be working with @AGPamBondi and HHS staff to fix the VISP. Together, we will steer the Vaccine Court back to its original Congressional intent.'

Changing the VICP would be the latest in a series of actions by Kennedy to reshape US regulation of vaccines, food and medicine.

In June, he fired all 17 members of the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, a panel of vaccine experts, replacing them with seven handpicked members, including known vaccine skeptics.

One of them earned thousands of dollars as an expert witness in litigation against Merck's, Gardasil vaccine, court records show.

Kennedy himself played an instrumental role in organizing mass litigation over the vaccine.

He also is planning to remove all the members of another advisory panel that determines what preventive health measures insurers must cover, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

An HHS spokesperson said Kennedy had not yet made a decision regarding the 16-member US Preventive Services Task Force.

RFK Jr has for years sown doubt about the safety and efficacy of vaccines, despite research determining the shots are safe.

He has a history of clashing with the medical establishment and spreading misinformation about vaccines, including promoting a debunked link between vaccines and autism despite scientific evidence to the contrary.

Recently it emerged that a major 20-year study of over 1million children found no association between aluminum in vaccines and conditions like autism and ADHD.

Findings in the sweeping investigation provide a rebuttal to oft-debunked claims about the use of aluminum salts in vaccines, which bolster the body's immune response, and purported ties to asthma, autoimmune diseases, and autism.

Danish researchers looked at 50 potential health effects in children taking a vaccine containing aluminum salts, including 36 immune system disorders like diabetes and celiac disease, nine allergy-related conditions, such as asthma and eczema, and five neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism and ADHD.

They found no increased risk of autism, ADHD, asthma, or autoimmune disorders from the small amounts of aluminum in vaccines.

In fact, vaccinated children showed slightly lower rates of neurodevelopmental conditions – a seven percent lower autism risk and a 10 percent lower ADHD risk – with no connection to allergic or immune problems.

Aluminum adjuvants are safely used in several common childhood vaccines, including those protecting against diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTaP/Tdap), hepatitis A and B, Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), and pneumococcal disease.
